- The sound quality is so bad you feel like you're listening to something out of a tin can. The picture is great, but the sound is hard to overcome. The audio is digital dolby - not stereo. We are going to return it and pay the 15% restocking fee for something with better sound quality.
- This is really a neat TV. Fits in an amoire and the footprint was only a bit taller than a much smaller screen TV. Have it hooked up to UVerse and the picture and sound operate optimumly. Paid $299 at Best Buy two weeks ago. Sharp has excellent quality, and when it's time for HDTV will definitely consider the Aquos. Noted one reviewer said the sound was tinny. Not so with mine. The sound in fact is quite good. The more I think about the price the sound is even better!!!
- This is a great TV for a small bedroom or office area. I paid $350 for it after barginning with the salesperson when I bought a Toshiba 37" set for my family room. The discounted price in the store was $399.
- For a change I didn't buy this TV from Amazon, got it at a small USCG exchange. The good - It has a beautiful digital picture using an antenna, I actually pick up 64 digital channels with an unpowered antenna here in Florida. It also aquires analog signals fairly well but who cares they're going away next year anyhow. The sound is pretty good, not at all tinny. Nice easy to use menu, switchable display ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 letterbox format for digital viewing. Has a sleep timer, V-Chip, color temperature setting and all the standard stuff. Uses only 60 watts power. The bad - no HDMI input, but does have component level, S-video and standard video inputs and it has digital audio output. For the price you won't go wrong on this nice little set.
- I wouldn't recommend building your home theater around this unless your needs are basic, but it's a great TV for the money. This set is ideal when your video sources are primarily standard def in 4:3 format, such as from a basic cable or satellite set-top box, but you don't want to buy something that's going to be obsolete right away. If you're thinking about buying this you should understand that this set can handle HD signals (over the air local channels or component input), but the picture isn't full HD quality. Audio from built-in speakers isn't great, but it does have a digital output.

- Picture quality is great when you use HD - I have a good up-converter DVD player, and the movies look absolutely stunning. I am one of those backdated guys who is still not subscribed to HD content from my satellite provider and hence watch normal channels. The non-HD content has blurred lines, and poor picture quality, but that should not be counted against this TV as this TV is not designed for clarity while showing non-HD content.
The sound quality is average and muffled, but I route the audio to my home theater system, so I do not use the TV's audio. So no difference for me. May be because I tested the TV's audio AFTER getting used to the room shattering home theater system - and that made it sound poorer.
For connecting computers - I was used to the VGA port on my earlier LCD, so slightly disappointed with no such thing here. If you do not have a laptop with DVI output, there is no easy way to connect it to this TV (there is S Video as an option if your laptop has S Video output, but I never liked the picture quality of S Video). That is why I am going to buy a VGA to Component Transcoder and see how it looks. I will update the review with the results.
It has 4 HDMI inputs, technology to watch 3D movies with special glasses on, easy menu, 2 antenna inputs for your cable and local antenna wire, an excellent manual. I was surprised to find that the power chord does not have the 3rd earthing pin - seemed cheap of Mitsubishi to not provide one with such an elite line of product. Overall, it is a grand sight.
- First, allow me to state that I am a long time Sony user (which is widely considered to make the best in televisions and other electronics). Well, this Mitsubishi HDTV can stand "toe to toe" with the Sony line, and it does it at a much lower price.
This television's High definition picture is awesome, and it's speakers are more than adequate!!! I have DIRECTV which only offers a 1080i signal (this television has an even better 1080p capability), and I am totally amazed with the crisp and clean picture. The picture is great from any angle and close up. You simply have to see it to believe it (especially if you like sports and movies). The cooling fan is extremely quiet too (can't hear it at all).
IMPORTANT - It should be understood that this television is made for a HD signal (720p, 1080i, or 1080p). Due to the overwhelming size of the screen, non HD channels seem blurry, and almost not worth watching. So make sure you spend the extra money for the HD channel packages with your cable or satellite company.
On a side note, this model also comes with an easy set up feature. It's a very nice... you simply plug in your dvd player, satellite receiver, Play Station, Xbox, whatever and it automatically senses it. It will ask you to verify that it is what it thinks it is, and that's it; no special programming or matching remotes. The television is extremely user friendly!
If you plan on watching predominately high definition channels and movies, buy this tv! You won't be disappointed!!!

- Bought this LCS for a bedroom and are very pleased with it. LCD is very sharp and holds the HDTV signal very well. One point I should make is that with a standard Cable R6 cable, the sound output is poor. At the highest level, the TV was hard to hear with ANY kind of background noise. I purchased an HDMI cable to use from my cable box and it made ALL the difference in the world. We now only have to go to around 10 (on a scale to 100) to get great sound. Not sure why the HDMI to Cable input makes that much difference as it honestly shouldn't be that varied. Anyway..my wife is happy with the purchase..which..of course makes for a happy home.
Happy Holidays.
- One pixel went out after 3 hours. I called customer service and they told me that 3 have to be out before they will consider it a warranty return. It's in the middle of the screen and very annoying.
- Learned a lesson. Could not find what I wanted locally for bedroom. Worst TV I have ever bought. Color, contrast, do not even know how to start. Never buy a TV with out viewing picture.
- Now, I'm not quite sure if this TV is the same one as mine, but they look the same and the size (23") is my size.
Anyway, the aspect ratio of my TV is 16:10, not 16:9 like all HD broadcasts are. This means that to not have the picture stretched vertically I have to set it to have two black bars at the top and bottom. Why a company would make anything other than a 16:9 aspect for an HDTV I will never know. Also, in low light scenes you can clearly see the places where the backlights are; they make streaks of bright across the screen. The TV also has some weird feature which turns the backlight up and down depending on what's being displayed, which can be VERY annoying.
So I'm not sure if this is the exact same TV, but just be weary if you buy this one (or any LG TV).
- i got this tv at best buy, your way better off buying it there because it cost me 398. but if u buy it here you will have to pay shipping you get the idea so ya better off buying it at best buy and over all this lcd is great bright screen had to bring it down a bit the best looking picture of all the same size lcd at best buy

- The television itself works great, but there was about a 2" dent and gash on the front of the tv when we received it from the handling during the shipment. That wasn't Amazon's fault and it wasn't worth sending the tv back. We are very pleased with the product.

- The toshiba is an excellent stanard definition tv,offering good picture and sound at a budget price.Since Flat panels are in vogue, this is a good time to pick up one of these closeout models from Toshiba. The tv is big and heavy, but you get tried and true technology.I own this set as well as an hd sony and i really enjoy watching this tv...I would buy this locally as many customers who purchased tvs online through amazon have had ship damage problems, including myself.Thank you for reading my review.
- The product specs may be a little out of date here. My parents just bought one of these, and it has an NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuner and 16:9 mode. I helped them set it up and explained digital television channels to them.
My only beef with this model is that it doesn't let you manually input digital channels - you have to let the TV search for them.

- Toshiba 32D47 32" SuperTube CRT TV
The picture is pretty good; controls are reasonably convenient. But the sound quality is uneven. On one channel the sound is so scratchy that the channel is unusuable.
- I've always liked Toshiba CRTs--the picture and contrast are unbeatable when you watch Standard Definition stuff. Unless you have a reason to go with a flat-screen that is HD-capable (that reason being that you have an HD source), don't think twice and get this TV. The image quality is unbelievable--the sound is great. It's easy to use and will last you a long time. Don't get a warranty--you won't need it.

- First let me start off by saying, you get what you pay for! I thought that the price was pretty good cheaper than most TVs that I was looking at. Picture is not good. Sound is terrible.
I had my tv for 9 months and all of a sudden I had no power. This was a tv in our bedroom, so not used all the time. I took it to our local repiar shop and found out that Emerson is stating that they have no ETA on when the part I would need would be in or if they will ever get it. The whole power supply inside tv was fried. So, since they have no clue when they will or if they will get their part in, I am sitting in limbo. There tech support sucks! I would never buy anything from Emerson again. Stay away. Go with another brand. Just my two senses!
- We bought this TV/DVD combo at a big box store, it seemed okay at first, about what I'd expect for the price. I used it to watch DVD's while eating dinner in my kitchen, occasionally play X-Box on it. For the first three months it was fine. Sound quality was okay, picture was decent but nothing to write home about, ease of use was actually kind of bad. Like, unless you have it hooked up to cable or satellite, it wants to scan channels every time it's turned on, unless you keep DVDs out of the slot. You have to turn it on and then put in a DVD. Don't dare turn it off with a DVD inside- you'll have to go through the set-up process again when it's turned back on. Even with that minor annoying irritation, I didn't mind it. I'm not picky. I just want to watch DVD's while I cook dinner and eat. That's it. So it was okay until it totally started acting broken. Like, it'll play a DVD okay until about 5 minutes into it, and then it'll start to freeze up and eventually will completely stop playing. I've tried cleaning it, everything. It's just an annoying piece of garbage in my kitchen now. I'll be tossing it into the city's dump next chance I get. I got about 2 and a half months to 3 months of good use out of it. What a rip.

5 comments about Philips 47PFL5603D/27 47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
- I got this from my local warehouse for a great price. The TV has superb picture quality. Fabulous sound with 30W 2.1 speakers behind the TV.
I have a window in front of the TV and there is no glare on the LCD, which used to be a big problem on my standard CRT tv before.
I hooked it up with a philips dvd player (DVP 5992/37) with 1080 upconversion and the picture and sound are perfect.
I would have liked to have the Picture in Picture (PIP) feature, but it seems absent in philips models.
And it is energy star certified, consumes less power in standby. It also plays MP3 and picture slide show directly from USB connected flash drives/cameras.
It was also able to find clear QAM signals on my basic cable connection, so I could watch a few HD channels including CBS, NBC which were great looking. Philips also provides firmware updates for the TV, so in time, they could improve features.
- After much on-line research of available large screen lcd's, settled on this Philips. Very pleased with this product. Delivered fully assembled including stand. Install took less than 10 minutes. Audio and video both very good.
- I've been selling this particular model for about three months and I've been very impressed with how well it has held up against not just constant demo usage but from customer feedback as well.
First off I must warn all potential customers that with any high definition television you MUST HAVE A HIGH DEFINITION SERVICE if you want your channels to look as awesome as those televisions on the show room floor. Televisions do not magically take a cable signal from a coaxial cable and make it high def. That said, with the 1080P picture quality you can also enjoy the high definition if you have an up conversion DVD player, a Playstation 3, or an XBox 360 Elite/Halo 3 console so long as you have an HDMI cable to transfer the signal. Sadly, the Wii console only sends out a maximum signal of 480 which is not high def.
To compliment the 1080P picture quality is the 29,000 contrast ratio. Most economy-class televisions under $2000 sport around a 2000-8500 contrast ratio, which is OK but let's face it; like the song by Queen you want it all and you want it now. Samsung A3 series typically sport around 8500 contrast while economy-priced Sony Bravias are even less, making the Philips 29,000 far superior.
On top of that, the quality and endurance of the Philips 47 is top-notch. In my eight years of selling screens, Philips is one of the longest lasting if not the longest in the economy-class. They don't use cheap parts like Emerson, Sanyo, or RCA but have the same (if not better) picture as a Samsung or Sony. I hardly see any Philips returned and if they did, it's usually because they want to upgrade to the 52-inch.
The sound isn't bad for a big screen but, like any other, it is designed to be complimented by a surround sound. Nonetheless, depending on the acoustics of the room this model can operate fairly well without one although don't expect a true Pro-Logic II experience.
All-in-all the Philips 47 does something few other screens can; give the economy-class shopper a screen that dominates in picture quality making it affordable to all who want to experience true high definition.
- This is a really good TV. It looks and sounds great. Connection is easy. We installed it with a wall rack that fit no problem. I waited 15 years to upgrade my TV but I wanted a good one that was reasonably priced. This is the one.
- As I type these words, I am watching them on this very screen, and I thoroughly regret purchasing this TV.
I got fooled by the specs where they said:
* Flicker Free 1080p - It doesn't really give an acceptable, stable 1080p picture. The picture wobbles and squiggles periodically, making you hold your breath in between these occurrences, hoping it's gone away.
* "typical" 5ms response time - No. If you calibrate it with software or console-games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, the lag is in excess of 120ms. If you connect your PC, it gets worse. When is it 5ms? In the menus, perhaps?
So.. If good 1080p picture-quality, gaming or PC connectivity is what you're looking for, then this TV isn't for you.
Oh, and the "game-mode" on this TV gives you an INTERLACED picture that still lags far beyond 5ms. Hohum, 1080 PROGRESSIVE indeed. UselessPhilips 47PFL3603D 47-Inch Widescreen 1080p LCD HDTV.
I guess you got me this time, Philips. Got me good.
