5 comments about Sharp Aquos LC32GP1U 32-Inch 1080p LCD Gaming HDTV.
- I had to return my tv- it was dead when it arrived. when i phoned sharp, they said it happens all the time with products from Tiger Direct-
STAY AWAY from TIGER DIRECT was their advise and mine!
- This a great tv and the picture quality for HD channels is excellent. I also play my PS3 games with my this tv and I have to say that there is unbelievable sharpness with PS3 games. Overall picture quality and sound are great and the game button on the remote is very convenient. It helps while switching between game and tv programs. Setup was very easy with no hassel at all.
- I found one dead pixel on this TV, but I guess if you don't want dead pixels then you have to test it in a shop and buy one in a shop instead of buying it online. I also found that it takes some for the grey-to-black, you can see ghosting effect. Also, consistent with the other reviews, it doesn't come with very good speakers, so better use some external speakers. I game a lot with my PS3 using this TV (the dead pixel still annoys me a lot, I guess when you get a Full HD you kinda demand perfection), and somehow it's harder to see the images when there's a lot of sunlight, requiring me to sit closer (and I have 25/20 vision). Overall, this is a good TV comparing price for price with other brands. With Sharp' new Kameyama state-of-the-art factory though, you'd think that they would have up-ed their quality a bit more.
- We did not buy this Sharp Aquos because it is a gaming TV, but because we saw it next to TVs in the same price range at one of the electronics chains, and the Sharp picture blew the others away. Even though we knew we would save almost $200 buying the TV online, we were a little nervous about buying from TigerDirect through Amazon. We took the plunge, though, and the TV arrived in a matter of days in perfect condition. The set-up with our HD DVR was a little difficult, and calls to Time Warner weren't much help when the support person insisted the 480i showing on the DVR was the DVR model number. We finally went to Time Warner's Web site and found the information we needed to get the set up to maximum resolution. We have had the TV a couple of months now and are very happy with it. A word to the wise -- if your order with Amazon "suggests" you purchase a Bargaincell HDMI cable for an extra $1.98, pass on it. We ordered the cable, and the audio was nonfunctional.
- This TV is phenomenal, the picture is incredible, it looks great and it's not that heavy. I have my PS3, X-box 360 and Wii all connected to this tv and it's so simple to switch in between them. I also used it as a computer monitor and Oh MY GOD! Counterstrike on a 1920x1080 resolution is insane! Probably the best TV I have ever owned. I also suggest getting 5.1 speakers for this TV because the TV has a problem with bass. It tends to overpower the speakers so get what I got, Logitech 5.1 Z-5500 =Amazing. I highly recommend it and buy it from NEWEGG it's 850 bucks in Total, fast shipping and great service.

5 comments about Vizio L32 32-Inch Widescreen HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV.
- We purchased our Vizio 32" HD LCD TV with the extended 5 year warranty from Sears in August 2007. The TV works great and we've had NO complaints. The color and resolution is as good as the higher priced competition. The remote control is easy to navigate and use. It is our bedroom TV and gets used 7 days a week. For the price you cannot beat this product. The extended 5 year warranty gave us peace of mind and was very affordable. I'd recommend Vizio products based on this purchase and I'd consider their larger LCD HD TV's as well.
- I owned my Vizio for just over a year, then it died. It would cost more to get repaired than buy a new one. I contacted Vizio to see if they could help me in any way, but they were most unhelpful.
I was very impressed with the price of my Vizio when I bought it and by the picture quality. But beware most of the good reviews for Vizio on the internet are from people who have only had there TV for 2 or 3 months. Once they have had there TV for over a year they will realise why it was so cheap.
- For the price I was happy with the TV for a little over a year. After the warranty was up all of a sudden the High Definition turned green while the AV inputs worked normally. The problem is that you can't find a repair show to work on Vizio TV's. I called dozens of shops and only one said they could get parts to Vizio's but advised me to throw away the TV and buy another brand.
Vizio tech support was not helpful in directing me to a repair place so I finally gave up. Do yourself a favor and buy another brand.
- The T.V. was fine for the last two years, it is in the bedroom and doesn't see that much service. This morning I went to turn it on and nothing happened. The little amber light is on, so it looks like its getting some power. Checking the web I find this is a common problem with Vizio. So it looks like the main board is bad and it'll cost at least $150 for the part and hopefully it fixes the problem and I don't do any additional damage when I swap it out - lol. Some people were taking it to the shop and getting quotes of $400. I have never had a new T.V. go out this soon. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE !!!!!!
- My mother has had this TV for a little less than 2 years. A thoughtful neighbor bought it for her after my father died. Recently the picture contrast has gone all red and the TV is impossible to watch. TV repair technician said this TV is not reliable and they see problems with this brand all the time that are more expensive to fix than the TV is worth. A TV at any price should last a good long time. I will replace my mom's TV, but with any brand but Vizio. I will never buy a Vizio product at any price.

5 comments about Philips 19PFL5422D 19-Inch LCD HDTV.
- This model TV is really great, easy to set-up and start watching right away. Beautiful picture too, even without HD-TV hook-ups!
- I shopped for a small set for the kitchen at Walmart and found this to have the best picture of the bunch in the size range. The first unit I brought home had a menu glitch where it would go haywire and even block out access to the action of the physical buttons along the top of the TV. This may have been due to a software glitch, or in retrospect, it might have been due to me laying the TV down along the control panel surface to install the cabling (which awkwardly direct downward). This problem also took a few days to pop up and may have coincided with me programming my DirecTV remote to control the TV. I'm still not sure. In any event, there was no way to address this myself (resetting the unit and calling Philips did not result in a solution), so I returned it. The replacement has given me no issues.
As of now I'm not running an HD signal into the unit, but it does a nice job with the standard DirecTV signal. My impression from the HD signal in Walmart was that this TV looked exceptional, and I have a very discerning eye for artifacts, hues, etc. In fact, it looked as good as many of the better HDTV sets in larger sizes.
Overall the unit looks great. It has a nice glossy black border reminiscent of Samsung models and has a sturdy glass base that is very sharp.
I have noticed the slight "haze" or backlight leakage that a few have noted, but to me it's not a deal breaker or really all that noticable. I do notice it because I notice most defects in even the best HDTVs, but it's hardly worth knocking the set down significantly, and most won't even notice.
The sound is about what you'd expect from a small TV. It's serviceable, but not great. I presume that most people don't buy a TV to have wonderful internal speakers, so I don't think this is all that noteworthy. If you want superior, rich sound, simply buy a set of amplified speakers. Since this sits in my kitchen, I think the speakers are more than sufficient.
As to input connectivity, there is basically one of everything: HDMI, component, S-video, VGA, and composite. Yes, it could be better, but I can't imagine this is anyone's primary set running numerous HD inputs, so I found it to be sufficient for running an HD satellite signal.
I think many reviews have too high of expectations, so in this case I look at the set in terms of value and function. For a smaller set that will function as a gaming/bedroom/kitchen unit, it's ideal. Sure it has minor faults, but I don't believe there is an HD option at 19" that doesn't.
- This TV was to replace a little under-the-cabinet model in our kitchen, and the counter space size was perfect for a 19" LCD. I reviewed many newspaper ads featuring lesser priced models; then thought I'd check on-line for price comparison. It was there that I got caught up into the product reviews, and glad I did. This model was the highest rated of any 19" LCD with a little higher retail price as well. The Amazon.com price was over $40 less than our BestBuy store including shipping. (BestBuy indicated they were sold-out on-line). The Amazon delivery was on-time, set-up was incredibly simple (even for a non-techie), and the picture/sound is fantastic. The cosmetic design is very sharp too. Definately would buy another one and highly recommend it to anyone.
- It's a fraction of the size advertised, only 16" long, the image is hard to see, the sound is tinny and doesn't project, and to add insult, they don't even include any cables with the TV!
- A friend bought this for his bedroom. Although they don't list the contrast ratio here, it's for good reason. The contrast ratio is very poor. My guess would be about 600:1, like the first LCDs to hit the market years ago. This is an old technology LCD of years ago. The blacks are only light grey/purple at best, never even close to black. It's like turning the contrast down on your current set, & then turning up the brightness. Everything looks washed out, especially during dark scenes. For watching movies, accept nothing less than a 1200:1 contrast ratio, or you won't enjoy it.

5 comments about Samsung LN-T4681F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV with LED backlight.
- This Samsung LN-T4681 LCD TV has excellent clarity, excellent natural colors and no motion blur.
- THIS TV IS ESPECTACULAR. I'M FROM MÉXICO CITY AND HERE, YOU FOUND IT IN $6,200 DOLLARS. SO MY REVIEW INCLUDES THE PRICE. MY ONLY COMPLAIN IS THE REMOTE. I THINK THAT FOR THE PRICE YOU PAID, THE REMOTE MUST BE A LOT BETTER. THE TV IS SIMPLY PERFECT AND THE BEST AVAILABLE, PERIOD (I RESERACH A LOT). BEST OPTION IN DVD, BLU RAY, XBOX 360, PS3 AND EVEN TV SIGNAL. THANKS TO SAMSUNG. I WAITED TO BUY A HDTV FOR A LONG TIME, AND NOW MY PITTSBURGH STEELER'S CRIB IS COMPLETE.
- I have owned this set for about six weeks now, and I love it. The picture is exquisite, and far outpaces the three-year-old Sony VEGA set it replaced (the old set only did 720p, for one thing...).
Good stuff:
This TV is a real conversation starter. It's enormous, and very glossy (both on the screen and the bezel). The gloss makes fingerprints very obvious, and seems to attract dust...so you'll want to do some routine cleaning if you want to keep it looking nice. People sit down in my living room and just stare at the set, even if it's turned off. Some have compared it to the monolith in "2001: A Space Odyssey." That's...good, right?
The picture is stunning. The reviews here are right: the LED backlighting really makes things look great, and makes rich black really pop.
I recommend turning off the power-on LED (the little blue bar under the display) using the onscreen menus. When it's on, you can actually see the reflection of the power light on the bezel around the screen, and I found that distracting. Fortunately it's an easy thing to turn off -- and when it's off, the set has ZERO lights aside from the picture when turned on. This is a great feature, as I don't want any little points of light distracting me from the picture! On my old set, there was a little "power on" light that always bugged me.
Tuning between inputs is fast, and makes switching from one input to another no big deal. (On my old set, it took several seconds for each switch, so going through the list felt laborious....)
Be sure to go through the onscreen menus and enable the optional features, particularly the dynamic LED backlighting (some of these features require you to change the picture mode to MOVIE, which I've done on every input...). The default VIVID setting is garish, but it's very easy to switch (and of course the setting is saved, on a per input basis, so it's a one time setup).
Bad stuff:
The three HDMI ports are adequate for me (HD TiVo, AppleTV, and Samsung Blu-ray player), though I wish there were more, and I wish they were all on the back rather than one on the side. As it is I'm using the side port for a Blu-ray player, and having the cable sticking out the side isn't exactly ideal. I still haven't found a decent right-angle adapter.
The speakers aren't great. I guess they're fine for a TV set, but they're nothing to write home about.
The remote is adequate but not great. I wish the backlight extended to more of the buttons. The remote is also rather long. Note that if you have a Samsung Blu-ray player, you can use the Blu-ray remote instead to control most/all of the TV functions...but the Blu-ray remote (at least the one with the BD-1500 series player) isn't backlit. Oh well.
The glossy screen definitely shows light sources in the room: windows, lamps, etc. In many cases you'll want to move stuff around (or simply turn off/block out any light sources) if you're watching anything serious. But I guess that's true of any movie viewing experience.
Anyway, overall I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase. My other candidate was a Sony XBR4 set, but I'm glad I went with the Samsung...it's cheaper, has a better picture, and uses less energy due to the LED backlight. The Sony's design is arguably a little better, and it doesn't have the extreme gloss factor. But for my money, this is the set to get.
- I kind of kept my head out of the HDTV market for awhile. I figure the longer you wait, the better technology that you'll get for a lower price.
I unsuspectedly walked into a store and was looking at a few sets. After talking to the salesmen a bit. I compared this set to a few others including a Sony.
The picture quality is stunning. The black levels are drastically improved over the models I've viewed just a year or two ago. High speed motion doesn't seem to show artifacts. The initial release of this set in January, was pretty expensive, but the prices for this set has dropped. The only other strange thing I can note is it doesn't seem to be currently available at Amazon, and Crutchfield had a very good price on this set, but now don't seem to carry it any longer.
- Great TV with LED backlighting technology. Beautifully designed and executed by Samsung. I applaud their efforts. It's a little surprise to me that off-angle viewing is so inferior to other Samsung LCD series, which used the old fluorescent backlighting. I recently bought two Samsung 7-series sets (52" and 40"), and they look terrific at most viewing angles. For this 81F set, the picture is stunning at direct straight-on viewing, but contrast quickly degrades as viewing angle increases. If you have a viewing room or intend to set up the TV to have a narrow viewing angle, than shop no further--this TV is for you. But if you have a wide room, consider the other Samsung series. Overall, it's an excellent TV.

1 comments about Sony VPLAW10 720p High Definition Home Theater Projector.
- I originally purchased the Mitsubishi HC1500 DLP projector, but had some problems with it. Ordered this one from amazon and put them side by side. This isn't a review so much as a comparison between 3 Chip LCD and SINGLE CHIP DLP (which tend to be in the same price range). I actually liked the HC1500 a lot, but ended up keeping this SONY VLPAW10 for a number of reasons. It's not perfect, and in some areas underperforms the DLP. Here's the comparison.
Single chip DLP projectors create images by having a "chip" filled with thousands of tiny mirrors (1 per pixel on the screen) that can tilt up and down. When they tilt, they send light to the screen, when they don't tilt, the light stays in the projector. This ends up creating wonderfully bright and brilliant images. The only problem with this setup is that there's no color (just the white light is being directed) so the color needs to be introduced by spinning a color wheel in front of the chip. (in this case it's a 7 segment red-green-blue-white-red-green-blue wheel. The problem is that the colors are therefore being created via an optical illusion, which for some people creates a "rainbow" effect where they see color rainbows in the white areas of the image. It's very pronounced when there are credit rolls at the end of movies, or any other times there are high contrast black/white (or light/dark) areas. In a certain percentage of cases, the rainbow effect causes headaches and eyestrain It did so for me. (google "DLP rainbow effect" if you don't believe me. There are such things as 3 chip DLP projectors that don't need the color wheels and don't create this effect, but they aren't even close to being in the sub $1000 price range (they start at SEVERAL thousand dollars)
Three chip LCD screens actually have 3 panels (red green and blue) so they don't need the spinning color wheel, they just project the light through the panels, and the colors line up on the screen if calibrated properly. They are not as bright and brilliant as the DLP images because the light is going through the panels, and not being reflected by mirrors which create more direct light. The LCD projectors also need more space between the pixels than DLP, and this ends up giving you a more visible "screen door"effect where you can actually see the faint black lines of the pixel grid if you sit close enough to the screen (as if you were looking through a door or window with an insect screen on it, hence the term "screen door".
So that's the background, here are the results of my side by side tests (accompanied by the media manager for a major lecture hall at an Ivy League university) who is a specialist in these kinds of things (I myself teach video production, so have some expertise here as well).
The Mitsubishi HC-1500 (1 chip DLP)
Advantages
+ about half the physical size of the SONY.
+ Image is brighter
+ colors are more saturated
+ no need for air filter
+ less screen door effect
Disadvantages
- potential for rainbow effect
- noisy (the spinning wheel makes a high pitched whine which is louder and more annoying than the fan)
- If you have a small room, you may not be able to fill a large projector screen with an image because this projector cannot throw a large image from as short a distance as the sony
The SONY VLPAW-10 (3 chip LCD)
Advantages
+ no rainbow effect
+ quieter
+ can throw larger image from shorter distance
Disadvantages
- Much larger than the mitsubishi
- Bulb not as bright, need darker room
- colors are less saturated
- has an air filter than needs to be changed periodically
- more screen door effect
- HDMI input on the rear has a bezel around it that will make it impossible for some of the cables with thicker ends to fit in. I had to change cables to get this to work
CONCLUSION
I went with the SONY. It's not perfect, but for my needs it beats the Mitsubishi. I know there are a lot of die hard fans of the HC1500 and I'm sorry - but this is a fair assessment of my needs.
Some ways to mitigate the SONY's disadvantages:
Neither tv will perform great in a bright room, so both of these are really best suited for rooms where you can control the light.
In terms of the saturation, if you're watching DVD movies, then I think you'll prefer the LCD since it creates more natural colors. The DLP is better for watching HDTV shows where the colors really pop (like CSI Miami). I use it mostly to watch movies, so don't mind the less saturated and brilliant colors.
In terms of the "screen door" effect, I find this is minimized by defocusing the image just a hair. Yes the image is more soft, but this looks more like a projected image in a movie theater, and this is the effect I'm going for when watching movies on my projector, so it works great. It does not work as well to watch sports or news or other material that has lots of CG text up on the screen.
One last note, if you decide to buy it, the price of the sony does fluctuate on Amazon wildly ($[...] yesterday, $[...] today !!!). But I see it go up and down on an almost weekly basis. So time your purchase carefully!

5 comments about Samsung LNT2653H 26-Inch LCD HDTV.
- After much research I bought this TV through Amazon, and after 3 days it had a snowy picture. After spending a great deal of time confirming that the problem was in the set, not my cable set-up, I had to send it to a repair shop (at my cost!). While the Samsung customer service people were friendly and apologetic and the vendor (BuyDig) refunded the shipping, I have been without the TV for 10 days now and the parts are on backorder until who knows when?
This policy, whether its Amazon's or Samsung's, sucks. I pay almost $700 and get left hanging, waiting for a defective TV that will now always be suspect. DO NOT BUY A TV FROM AMAZON IN THIS WAY AGAIN! DEMAND THAT DEFECTIVE SETS GET IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT, NOT A REPAIR NIGHTMARE!
- Once it is properly installed, this TV is top-notch! Its color is superb, definition unbeatable, and it has full controls of all parameters. It was very complicated to set up, and I had a professional do that for $100 plus. Even he had to come back three times to get it straight and to make it work with my VCR and DVD units.
- I purchased this tv on Jan. 22, 2008 and had no problems at all until about Mar. 11, 2008. Just a few weeks over the time limit to send it back to Amazon and get a replacement. Then the high pitched sound started. Once the tv was on for an hour or two it would develope a high pitched whine coming from the back of the set and continued the whole time the set was on.
I contacted Samsung and they had me send it to NJ for repairs. Well, I got the set back from NJ today (after almost 3 weeks) and it doesn't even look like the same set. When I sent it in for repair I sent it in the original box with all original packing and it arrived today in a different box with different packing. My brand new tv (barely 3 months old) that left here without a mark or scratch on it, was covered in scratches, back and front.Further unpacking revealed a 1" diameter hole in the front left corner that was broken out of the set along with pieces of plasitc that just fell out of the packing. I was also completely missing the oval base plate that I originaly sent.
I contacted Samsung again and they said to return it once again to the repair shop in NJ to see what they had to say about it ? So much for Samsung's warranty and customer service, it's beginning to look like I'm out almost $700.00 for a beat up, broken, missing parts tv. It's really a shame too because before the noise started up and I had to send it in for repairs it was a nice tv and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.
All I can say is "Good Luck" if you purchase this set and I hope that you don't encounter the noise and have to send it to NJ for repairs.
- I love this TV. Used it for half a yr AWESOME. Use it as my monitor for my desktop. Play all my playstation 3 games on it, watch all my blu ray and dvd on it. Watch all my sports tv with in. Perfect for a small room, great color, great quality, GREAT PRICE. I enjoy every second i use this tv.
- the tv is a beauty to look at & watch.i particularly like the clarity of the picture & the must,a remote jack.the set graces my porch & is in use ever day.
