- This works beautifully. It doesn't pick up any channels by itself, but with an antennae, it rocks!
- This cheap little digital TV is lightweight and convenient, but as might be expected for the price there are no bells and whistles. It's digital but not HD. It offers two viewing resolutions (16:9 and 4:3), but because it's not HD, 4:3 generally looks better (though considerably smaller than 16:9, of course). Closed captioning is miniscule. Audio is loud enough, but a bit tinny.

5 comments about Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-32XBR6 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
- After several years of having HD in my home I have seen the evolution of the technology and Sony has been a part of my TV viewing experience since childhood. I have had several name brand TVs including both a Sharp and Sony HD TV (1080p). However, I was not prepared for the fantastic quality of this 32" Sony Bravia XBR. Picture quality is amazing: it's bright, clear, and vibrant. I was particularly impressed with the white-glove delivery service of Amazon. The delivery was scheduled, was on time, and with attention to unpacking and checking the unit prior to their departure. This Sony TV is amazing with the Verizon FIOS TV service I have connected. Look, compare, and I'm sure you'll judge that SONY definitely has HD in their DNA and they do it best.
- Normally I wait a few months before giving any sort of review on high ticket items such as this telvision simply to give time for issues, if any, to surface.(See my review of the KDL-52XBR4). But in this instance I already know I have a great piece of hardware and feel no reservations about writing so early on.
I have had this television for about three weeks now (purchased online via SonyStyle) and I love it. I bought the XBR model simply becuase it harbors most of the same things my larger KLD-52XBR4 model does. Namely, native 1980x1080p resolution, Bravia 2 engine, a myriad of controls for in depth picture calibration, numerous HDMI unputs, etc.
Initial setup is a snap, as the television asks simple questions with regards to language and region, what type of signals it can expect to receive, and what other components, if any, should it expect to be connected to. Once set up the tv works like any other. SD programming looks pretty good since it's a smaller panel, and HD programming shines given its native 1080p resolution. Since I purchased this for the bedroom I only have a Sony upscaling DVD player conected to it, but I am utilizing the Bravia Sync feature and I love it. All I have to do is hit a button on my remote, select the device I want to use, and everything I need for that device turns on. This translates into not having to get out of bed. The speakers are great for a set this size regardless of the output setting you choose.
As far as cons, I don't really have any to list. After reading some of the other reviews I can't verify the 'smelly' review, as this tv doesn't run hot for me at all. I have it mounted on my bedroom wall, so it's possible that the placement of the tv with regards to surrounding items/cabinets/armoirs might make a difference. Also, please note that contrary to what the features checklist (above) states, this television does in fact have Sony's XROSS Media Bar (3D on-screen feature navigation). I don't know why it states otherwise, but it leads me to think that maybe the checklist was released prior to Sony's new line of smaller tv's for 2008.
All in all, this television is great and works perfectly as a bedroom set. It saves tons of space when mounted to the wall and has plenty of connection options for any device you might want to plug in. The remote is nice, although I wish it had a backlight feature like the one for my XBR52 does, which makes for easy navigation in low-light situations.
I agree that while this television is priced higher than other telvisions in its size class, it is completely worth it for all the options it comes with. Some might argue that 720p for a panel this size is fine, but once you have 1080p it's hard to go back, and this is the only television currently offering a native 1080p resolution for its size. Recommended!
- I've had this TV for about a month now, and let me first say that it is an amazing monitor. It's bright, sharp, and I definitely concur with all of the other positive reviews about it. However, my low rating is more a reflection on Amazon and other websites that continue to "cut and paste" their product descriptions either from previous year model specifications or from really flawed research. In purchasing a new TV, the 3 criteria I had was LCD (Plasma is great but a real drain on electricity); 1080p (we have HD satelite and a Sony PS3/blu-ray); and last but probably the most important for me was 120hz capability. If you look both on this site and on sites like ZDnet or CNET, they all describe this as having Motionflow (Sony's version of 120hz) which dramatically reduces judder. I know that some people don't find the "sopa opera" effect all that appealing, but I really like it for some things and wanted it for my next TV.
THE SONY KDL-32XBR6 DOES NOT HAVE MOTIONFLOW/120hz.
I've researched the forums and because of coflicting reporst (some coming directly from Sony Technical Support) I know that their is still debate on whether it does or not. I've concluded that it DOES NOT. I've spoken with Sony's tech guys...they say it doesn't. Their website suggest from an ommission of this specification on their product description that it does not. And finally, I've spent the better have of a month renting Blu-Ray after Blu-Ray trying to replicate the 120hz "look" and have not been able to do it. I've played with settings on both the tv and my PS3 and their is nothing to indicate that it has Motionflow. It does have Cinemotion which is definitely NOT Motionflow. Even the manual for the TV idicates that only their new "W" series has Motion Enhancer which activates Motionflow (even this isn't entirely accurate because I know that some of the other larger XBR4, 5 and 6 models do have Motionflow.
Anyway, as I said, this is a non-essential feature for some people, but it was a major reason for me choosing this model, and I'm now extremely irritated by Amazon for posting misleading product information.
With all of this said, I am still satisfied with the TV for all of my other needs. The PS3 games and movies look beatiful, and I've seriously become spoiled for HD (it's actually pretty jarrig to go back to standard definition when switching to non-HD channels). Would I still recomend this TV?...yes but as most know, Sony relies heavily on its name recognition which allows them to hike up the price point of their stuff. I would certainly look at Samsung's LCDs as well. Just as good (if not better) and usually marked $50-$200 less.
- No dead pixels. The picture is crystal clear. It has a fabulous ATSC digital tuner (as well as a conventional NTSC analog tuner). I really don't think the Sony KDL-32XBR6 runs hot like other posters have said. I guess "hot" and "cold" are relative (as well as subjective) terms.
We mostly use the TV to watch OTA (over-the-air) high definition free television broadcasts. Thus, we appreciate the included TV Guide. I think the sound is fabulous...absolutely no complaints. As you flip through the various menus, the "eye candy" is simply icing on the cake.
The TV has controls on top. We have kids that aren't able to reach the buttons, so we bought them a Sony RM-EZ4 "big button" remote control so that they can change the channels and the volume.
Originally we had our eye on the Sony KDL-32XBR4 television. We were waiting for the price to drop to something more reasonable. My wife informed me one day that the "XBR4" was no longer available and that it had been replaced by the "XBR6". She said it looks like the major difference is that it now has 1080p instead of 720p. Well that was enough to peak my interest again.
We went to Best Buy to see it, and we were wowed! I asked the salesman if Best Buy would match an online price. Well, they came down $100 off their listed price. I called them back and they were out of stock, so I ended up purchasing the TV from B&H Photo Video.
- I bought this LCD a week ago and I have no complaints, it took a few days for the onscreen guide to get the lineup, but it is all good in my opinion. I think the remote is fine and put my hand on the screen and it is not hot or smelly or anything. I put my hand on many LCD's and Plasmas in Circuit City and they were all very warm. HDMI with my Onkyo upscaling to 1080p is excellent quality.

5 comments about Sony Bravia M-Series KDL-26M4000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
- I just bought this model, and I also own a Sony 40" S model. I was tempted to get Sony's S model in this size, but the M is a newer model, and $50-$80 cheaper. Picture quality is, overall, equal to my larger set, (though fleshtones are more natural on the "S") which cost twice as much. However, I was surprised that it does not come with the stand attached. Not a big deal, but I've never seen this practice before. Also, unlike the S series classy flat black matte finish, this M model has the "Samsungy" glossy piano black finish. Again, not a big deal..but still. Anyway, despite all my nitpicking, it is the picture that really matters, and in that area, this set delivers in Sony tradition..excellent. For the money, a great set, a great value, but it will remind you it is entry level, something the S models did not do...of course, Sony's least, is still better than it's competitors best.
- After having the set for 10 days the set went blank and Standby light flashed 2 times in sequence. Called Sony Tech Support and it was decided that a repair would be necessary. Checked online for comments on this type of failure and found it was a problem with the circuit board and that LCD TV's have this problem although not sure how common. I decided to return the set for a replacement rather than a repair. In the past I have avoided buying extended warranties but now are wondering if it might be a good idea for LCD TV's.
- I had been researching lcd tv's for quite a while (months). I had narrowed it down to Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp. What finally pushed me over into the Sony M-4000 corner is that it has a 178 degree vertical and horizontal viewing range, decent contrast, and the Sony Bravia Engine 2.
The tv is connected to basic cable and I have found the ghosting to be minimal and the hd stations are satisfying to watch.
PC input is excellent...dual monitors is new for me, and it's great for watching online shows, esp. when having pc audio linked to the tv.
The speakers work for me, our tv viewing is limited to when our son is asleep, so no need for thunderous booms, etc.
All in all, it has the features I thought important at a reasonable price. Channel switching is fast; the most often used functions are a button away. I'm content.
- I use this TV mostly as a computer monitor. It makes sense (if you are not a gamer) because price tag of this item is almost the same as most 26" lcd monitors but TV has nice features: you may see tv channels in small window (PIP) while you work on PC applications, much higher contrast ratio, and quality of picture is really nice, and very good sound.
Plus you have HD channels and plenty input options comparing to PC monitor. Also USB service connector is a good option to update firmware if needed. Unfortunaly, USB port can be used to display pictures from memory stick.
Cons: bulky design, bezel is too wide, it makes it 26.5" wide instead of 24" top as most monitors. Adjustable stand could be nice addition too. Remote is not lightened.
- I just bought this TV and am very happy with my decision. The picture is sharp and contrasty (though component input isn't perfect), sound quality is OK and features are more than plenty for my purpose. I especially like the selection of inputs and the ability to relay audio out to my stereo. But the clincher for me was the viewing angle: It is much better than the Samsung 26A450, which is the main competitor in terms of image quality (face-on the Samsung seems a little better). We have the TV set on a shelf, higher than the seating position, and there is literally no difference in picture for a large range in vertical (and horizontal) viewing angles. There is no discernible color shift or shadow loss, both of which are clearly visible for most of the competition. This suggests to me that this TV is using a high quality S-IPS panel, though it might be hard to believe at this price point.

- The picture is great. The blacks are deep. It provides me with endless entertainment.
- I searched for all the information about Plasma and LCD televisions before making this purchase. The television was delivered a little over a month ago and I have not found anything about it that I don't like.
- Very happy with the television, however I should not have purchased it through Amazon. Poor customer service on this purchase.
- I was a little reluctant to purchase a TV this way but depended on previous reviews and everything worked out perfectly. Delivered without problems and setup was easy. The quality of the TV itself met all expectations.
- You really can't go wrong purchasing this TV. Don't base your decision directly on the Cnet review and instead head over to AVSForum. You'll find a 80+ page thread with numerous reviews done by experts in the field. All of which are very positive and explain why CNet's review isn't too reliable.
Unlike Panasonic's earlier model, the 77U, this TV has an excellent picture right out of the box. There's no need for an expensive calibration or messing with service menu's. I've found my favorite settings, thanks to someone on AVSForum, is:
Picture Mode: Cinema
Picture: 84
Brightness: 40
Tint: -2
Sharpness: 50
Color Temp: Warm
Color mgmt: off
x.v.Color: off
Video NR: off
MPEG NR: off
Black Level: light
You'll find a ton of other settings there too so just do a google search.
This TV also seems very reliable. Out of over 3000+ posts I only saw maybe three that were returned due to a serious failure. (All of which were promptly replaced/repaired) Panasonic also has a really cool warranty service called "Panasonic Concierge". You can schedule service calls online and you'll be contacted within 24 hours. You can also call or chat online with a rep if you've got any questions. Another great thing about them is that if your TV fails and they have to take it away for repair they give you a loaner TV! I sure wish I had that option with my old Philips.
I was first considering purchasing a Samsung LCD but decided to see both first hand in the store. After adjusting the settings on both TV's the Samsung had a very unnatural and bright image while the Panasonic looked as if you were looking out the window. While this sort of thing boils down to what type of picture you prefer I personally was sold on the Panasonic.
Off topic, Amazon rocks too. After buying the TV their price dropped by a lot. I requested a refund for the difference and they did it no questions asked. I got the money back within 3 days! I couldn't be happier with not only the TV, but also Amazon.

- Very nice sound. Some of the best sound I have heard coming from TV speakers. Overall, the picture is quite good. The TV's "dynamic mode" setting seems to produce the best picture quality. It appears to me that Samsung and Panasonic have the best picture quality in the 32 inch category. The TV controls are relative easy to use, although the remote looks cheap. The base stand that comes with the TV is not the best either, but overall this TV has good picture quality and great sound!
- An excellent product at an excellent price. Purchased this tv for my husband as a birthday present after researching various brands at local stores. This was definitely the BEST VALUE for the money. The picture is superb; set-up was a breeze -- all in all a very attractive package. Liked the idea of the swivel stand, although ultimately decided to mount it on the wall on an articulating bracket.
- I bought this a little over a month ago. My eyes are not that good and playing my Xbox 360 on my 25" CRT was not helping. I wanted to go HDTV but had other $$$ priorities. Then I came across this on Amazon before the NYC tax went into affect and had some bank rewards so I decided to take the plunge and got this set for under 500. I am in heaven. My 360 looks fantastic and even my PC looks great over HDMI. Wish I could have gotten a larger version and have yet to see any HD content except for the 360 but normal stations look great and the 360 upscales DVDs and they look great on this set! Will be calling cable company to get an HD cable box when I have time. This is the best TV I have ever owned. Get it while you can.
- only a little more pricy than a basic model, but better picture quality. I compared these in the store at best buy and this tv was a great value. compared similarly to sony's new value (I forget the model...L? series), but since there was some talk about the budget bravia's being a rebrand, decided to go with this one... honestly, it's hard to tell picture quality unless you really mess with all the tv's settings and spend hours comparing.
- I have the 22 inch version of this model (Samsung LN-22A330) for my bedroom, and am VERY impressed. The picture quality is fantastic, and it has settings where you can fine tune the settings for individual channels.
I like everything about this unit, including the "tools" function on the remote for the most-used items in my house (including the sleep functions).
The only item I find disconcerting is the sheer amount of time it takes to respond to turning the unit 'on'. Once you hit Power, just ignore it and .....................................THEN you'll hear the tones turning it on (tones can be set at different volumes and even turned off if you poke around in the menu long enough to find it). Given time, I'll certainly get used to the amount of time it is, but for now it's bothersome as there is no other indicator that you actually hit the button correctly (the light on the power button on the tv doesn't flash, nothing).
If I needed to replace this 22" unit for some reason, I'd buy the same model again in a heartbeat.

3 comments about Samsung LN37A450 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
- I bought this TV for my bedroom. It is my third Samsung, but my first LCD. The other two that I have are both plasmas, the HPT5064 and FPT5084. I think that this is a great TV if you only care about 720p (which is all you need in a bedroom.) If you are on a $1000 budget or this is a secondary TV, I can't think of why you need more than 720p right now. This will absolutely change in the future, of that I have no doubt.
The TV comes in a great package - very clean lines, not a huge bezel, the Samsung piano-black finish that you either love or hate (I love). This TV doesn't have the flat touch buttons of the 5084, but that is a much higher-end TV I guess. The LCD panel is not as matte as some that I have seen. It outputs a great picture out of the box, with minimal tweaking (though I am sure that you can teak it to your heart's content).
It is a relatively light TV at ~45 pounds, so can easily be carried upstairs by one person. Sound quality is surprisingly good for a flat panel, though that is a relative measurement. The speakers face down on the bottom of the TV. Picture quality is bright, excellent contrast ratio (almost as high as the plasmas). The TV doesn't have the glowing blue lights on the front that the other Samsung's I own have, guess that was just a fad. The design is definitely a cross between the somewhat clunky 5064 and the more elegant 5084.
Standard def output is as good as you can expect, but in 2008 you can really spend 80% of your time watching HD content unless you have a few offbeat or retro shows that you like. I have this TV hooked up to a DirecTV H20 DVR and it works like a charm. I output the native mode signal and the TV handles 720p or 1080i in very well. I don't have an Xbox or PS3 on this TV, but I can guess that they would look great based on the overall performance I have seen so far.
I have ordered a Peerless wall mount for the TV, apparently it is in the gray area between 32 and 40" TV's and it falls into the higher side of that range as far as what size mounting bracket you need. In other words, look in the manual of the TV and look at the detailed specs of the mounting bracket before you pull the trigger to make sure that they adhere to the same standard mounting bracket size.
This is a great TV at a great price and I highly recommend it for those in the market for great mid-size HDTV who don't feel a compelling urge to get 1080p. If I have problems I will update them here.
- THE PROCESS WAS EASIER THAN I EVER EXPECTED. THE PRICE WAS GREAT...THE SERVICE WAS GREAT...DELIVERY WAS GREAT...INSTALLERS WERE GREAT...WHAT NMORE CAN ONE ASK FOR!!!
THANKS...AMAZON!!!
- I got this tv about a month ago. It's by far without a doubt the best tv I have ever had. It has the greatest picture and sound quality for the best price. The only thing that I didn't like about the tv is that it is a bit complicated to hook up a home theater system. The directions don't match what you have to do. It's like a puzzle that you have to figure out. But other than that the tv is awesome. All of the features and picture quality are well worth it. The picture quality is so much better than Sony, Phillips, & Vizo! It's so clear you won't believe your eyes! Just get it!

- Although advised to "have it installed professionally", I decided to try it myself. I spoke with the Tech support people who advised me that professional setup would also "tune the speakers". When pressed as to what this involved, I discovered that it simply meant adjusting the speaker placement and volumes so as to balance it appropriately. I may not have a concert hall ear, but I think I can do that, especially for the $200-$300 installation fee. If you have any technical savvy and can read a manual, you should be able to do it yourself as well. Be sure to read the manual for the cable box first. I tried to use the cable connection from cable box to the TV, but the manual clearly states "Don't Do That".
- I am very pleased with this product. The picture is beautiful! I had seen the product in a big box retail store and Amazon pricing was the best deal. It has totally lived up to my expectations. Also, the white glove delivery service was fantastic. This is my second time using this for a HDTV purchase and it was again flawless.
- Ok, here is my break down of this plasma. Hope you find it useful.
Plasma vs. Plasma:
Even though this is a good plasma, it is still inferior to the Pioneer. Not by much, but you can tell the difference. With Pioneer plasma, there is little to no noise when watching up close. With Panasonic TH-50PZ85U, you can see the noise within 6 feet. But then again, you might not want to watch it that close. You may probably wonder why I bought this plasma instead of the Pioneer. Very simple, the price! If I had the money, no doubt in my mind the Pioneer would be my first choice: better picture and better quality. Don't get me wrong, I still love this Panasonic. The color is much more real and vibrant compare to my LCD. I just don't have that kind of money to drop on a Pioneer. I also thought about buying a Samsung plasma, but it is too plasticky made. The glare is slightly worst than the Panasonic too.
Plasma vs. LCD:
In my personal opinion, I think plasma is more for night viewing and LCD is more for day viewing. With this TH-50PZ85U, I can see my own reflection when watching movies in the day time. I have a few windows in my living room, so it doesn't help much either. If you don't mind about the glare/reflection, or if you do most of your viewing at night, then this plasma is perfect for you. For the price, I think it is an excellent buy.
Happy shopping!!!
- Finally it's my turn to add my two cents in about this TV. I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said so I'll basically echo all the kudos that others have given this set. First off the set is sleek and good looking even when off. A lot of people have mentioned the glare issue. If you place this set in a room with a lot of direct sunlight or surround it with lamps and ambient light I could see how it could be a factor but in a room with that much light any set would have a problem.
Now on to performance. The picture is clear, crisp, vibrant and all the other brochure type adjectives included. The most impressive thing about this set is its black levels, they are AMAZING. Whether in the daytime or night nighttime scenes in movies look great. Colors are very vibrant. Watching the Planet Earth series Blu Ray on my PS3 I sat in amazement. I won't even mention how ridiculously good Ratatouille looked on Blu Ray. This set was an upgrade from my 42" Panasonic EDTV and I couldn't be happier. Regular cable looks good, DVD's look great and of course the ultimate is Blu Ray movies. Sound is above average when watching regular TV but of course the home theater comes on when it's movie or game time. Playing games on this set is awesome and not a hint of any burn in or motion blur.
Panasonic has outdone themselves with this line. This is definitely top tier quality for second or even third tier price. The only competition this set honestly has is a Pioneer. But even Cnet.com stated that the difference in black levels between this line and a Pioneer had to be measured with equipment to be noticed. To me that's not worth an extra grand or more. So if you're on the fence about this set don't think about it anymore. Click "Buy" or head to your local retailer, get it home then invite all your friends over and try not to rip your shirt while you poke your chest out.
P.S. Like I stated in my review of the Yamaha RX-V663 receiver I paired with this set, you do not need $100 Monster Cables. I have 3 HDMI cables total and the most expensive one was about $20. I get a full 1080p signal and full PCM recognition from my PS3.
- Overall,I really like this TV. Great HD picture and seems to be a quality built product.
Cons for me would be the base and frame are a high gloss plastic that is impossible to keep clean, and the set-up could be a little more user friendly.

- When I needed to upgrade the TV in our kitchen, it had to fit in a cabinet-end box that had been designed for a 20" CRT Sony 10 years ago. I soon learned that few HDTV mfgrs are building HDTVs that are 22 - 23". After a lot of web research and viewing and measuring LCD and plasma TVs in retailers, we agreed that the 22-inch Samsung was the best for us. While it's widely available in many retail outlets and sites, Amazon's price was the best. It was delivered in just a few days and the set has a beautiful picture and "fits" our needs perfectly.
- Needed new tv for kitchen. This set fit the bill perfectly. Good picture. Good remote. Highly recommended.
- This is a fantastic TV. Great picture. Very bright. It needs a tilt stand, however. Additionally, the screen is just slightly shy of a true 16:9 size, so you have to use the "wide" setting to fill the screen. The 16:9 setting results in thin black bars on the top and bottom.
- I absolutely love the Samsung LCD TV's. We started with a 40", then purchased another 40" for the another bedroom. The 22" went in the motorhome bedroom and the other went in the kitchen. Just purchased another 30 inch for the family/pool room. Would have gone larger but it was all that would fit in the cabinet. We also are using a 19" as a monitor for our computer.
All have bright, clear pictures, enough hook ups for all the gadgets. We have been using them for almost eight months with no problems. High Definition looks fantastic on these TVs, do not purchase for regular analog, it is not worth the cost as you will be disappointed with the picture quality.

- I just bought this as my first HDTV and I must say I am throughly impressed. It is a joy to watch, is easy to setup, and has the most lifelike picture. It looks great with SDTV as well, but really pops with a Bluray player. I highly recommend this TV.
- I guess it's okay. Pictures don't seem to fit the screen very well. I think this whole flat screen phenomenon may be a lot of hype and illusion.
- The Panasonic Viera was everything I hoped it would be. It worked as soon as we connected it; the HD picture is brilliant, the color accurate (better in plasma than anything I've seen in LCD). My regular DVD's and even my DVD-R's transferred from my own videotapes look great.
- I went to HH Gregg and they quoted a much higher price than Amazon offered, sales tax of 9.5 percent on top of it, with an expensive warranty, here in Tennessee. They even did an "internet search" for me in the store. When I told them I could do better, the sales tactic was to tell me that these sites that were cheaper were "shady".
I got the TV for my mother in law, and it was delivered in pristine condition to her house. Overall, cheaper than local vendors. It works great! I would skip Amazon's warranty, unless you can't feasibly replace it (and then you probably shouldn't buy it if that's the case, but that's another story). The warranty doesn't cover a major failure of plasma TVs in general, and from what I hear the service is terrible. They take your money easily, but everything else is a headache.
But, I have never bought a TV before on the internet, so I was nervous, but it all worked out well in the end. I'm satisfied with it. The colors/brightness are brilliant, looks great. Works great. Would highly recommend.
- I've been following this 42 inch Panasonic model through its growth and changes for six years waiting to finish college so I could give tv undivided attention. This is the most exciting piece of electronics I have ever purchased, or ever owned. I put up full-length black, black-out curtains which cut out any glaring from direct sunlight during the day, and provide a theatre atmosphere. The high def channels (Time-Warner) are so life-like and 3-D in appearance, I sometimes forget I am not actually in the scene, wherever it is.
The sound is certainly adequate on its own, if one is not an audiophile, but I wanted the Sony home theatre over the Panasonic and was worried they wouldn't be compatible. Much to my delight, the cable DVR and Sony Home Theatre are all controlled by the Panasonic Viera by just simply selecting the HDMI input source (there are three here) and naming the components I wanted to use. There is no hunting for numbers or holding and aiming remotes for a half-hour to find each component setting, as Panasonic Viera does that for you INSTANTLY, even if it is another brand. Push the Panasonic remote power button and the home theatre and DVR are started, vice versa when turning off.
I have also connected, by HDMI, a new Playstation 3 (thanks again Amazon) through the game port, and it is UNBELIEVABLE PICTURE QUALITY. Panasonic recognized them immediately and the menus on this tv are one push button drop down and simple to navigate. Likewise, the new Wii Console (from Amazon) is into another input using their video cables and the picture is crisp, clear and stunning. I chose the pre-selected game mode picture quality for the Wii, and custom picture settings for the cable and PS3. As I switch between them, the Panasonic remembers my screen settings for each so I don't have to "switch" back and forth manually as I change programming.
I'm sure I don't know half the things the TV does yet (purchased May 27th), but you cannot go wrong with this tv. I am sitting about twelve feet away in an apartment and it is just the perfect size screen. Next, is connecting my laptop to the PC input and "flying" Microsoft X flight simulator. That is going to be exciting!!!!!
The delivery took a while about two weeks, but the white glove service was excellent (actually two men who used to work for years delivering Sears tv's) and they were extremely knowledgable, helpful, and professional. If you want state of the art technology, with picture quality that passes for art every time, you want this particular plasma!!!!!!! By the way, I am a 58 year old single, female, and yes, while I am pretty technically literate and experienced, you don't have to be with this TV. Just plug and play!!!!

5 comments about Samsung LN32A550 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
- I've been wanting a new flat-panel TV for some time and, though I do make a lot of purchases on-line, I felt like I actually needed to look at a TV in person. My wife and I were looking at the TV's in Wal-mart when another customer pointed out that the better TVs had a higher contrast ratio and he thought that was the most important factor. Sure enough, the one we thought had the best picture was the one with the highest contrast ratio - it was 3200:1, the best 32-inch in the store. (I really wanted something with 1080p resolution, but they only had 720p in the 32" size TVs. We decided to get that one, since we had seen it and felt like we could enjoy it - but they didn't have one in stock...
I came home and began to research. It turns out that there are only a very few 1080p TVs in the 32" model, this being one of them. In looking at the contrast ratio I found that this one was rated at 30,000:1 - almost 10 times better than the best one at Walmart. (High contrast ratio seems to give you darker darks and whiter whites - lower contrast ratios have a milky looking gray where it's supposed to be black...) My research combined with what I saw in the store gave me the confidence to purchase a TV on-line. I settled on the Samsung LN32A550.
The TV arrived in good working order and I had it set up and running within 30 minutes. (The biggest problem was unhooking and moving the old one!) The picture is everything I could have imagined it would be - far better than anything I saw in the store. The crystal clear picture and crisp, well defined images make this simply the best picture I have ever seen on a TV. I saw a bit of a NASCAR race on this unit and the motion was unbelievably smooth - no after images at all.
I debated a bit on giving this unit a five-star rating. I felt like the picture quality so outrated the sound that I had to bump it up a bit. But if sound is an issue you may want to consider this to be a "four-star" unit. While the TV has a built in equalizer function (with some presets based on your listening preferences) I found the sound, even in the best adjustment leaves a lot to be desired. It has a tinny sound much like you would expect from an old transitor radio. I would suggest investing in a good pair of external speakers to enhance this unit. (If you already have a home theatre set-up sound is not an issue anyway...)
So far I'm glad I made this purchase. If Samsung can improve the speakers on this TV they will have the perfect TV!
- I got this TV about a month ago & so far I'm very happy with Samsung. I have to admit this is my 1st LCD purchase and don't know exactly what to look for in LCD except that compare to my dad's Sony Bravia 32" 720p, picture seems lot more crisp and clearer. Only thing that bother me about this TV is the sound quality. Even when volume is turned on high I can't really hear voices clearly. Otherwise, it's a great purchase under 1k.
- We bought this tv after lots of research, and we were happy with the white glove delivery. They come in and help set it up, and make sure that everything is working before you sign for it. We like the sound and picture quality.
- Well, after looking around for quite a while I came across this little gem. This is a perfect affordable TV for just about anything. Stylish and performs well, this is a great buy if you want an LCD TV to last you a while. Best when used to watch movies or play video games on. If you do play games on it, make sure you buy VGA cables for your system, because with any LCD you will get bad response time with video games, but even without the cables this TV has very low response time.
- Bought this TV for my parents bedroom. Having been a Sony man bought a 46 inch Samsung last year, I was expecting a winner and got one. Samsung quite frankly has won me over. The set's review stated the sound was not all that great but frankly I don't view it as a negative. I watched "Fools Gold" on blu ray, as well as other programming, and the sound seems fine. The picture is gorgeous-especially on HD programming.
The only disappointment was that the first set we received was faulty. Amazon was great about taking care of a quick replacement. We did however experience continued problems with shipping(didn't pick up defective set when the new one arrived). Was totally unimpressed with the shipper.I strongly suspect the problem with the first set was damage in shipping.Overall very happy with the purchase.TIP-when delivered INSIST that the delivery person stay 5 mins. to see that the set is functional or tell them they will be taking the set back with them. They CAN do it,you just have to make them WANT to.This simple step would have saved a ton of trouble for us.
