  1. pro's: for the money this thing cannot be beat. i absolutely love it. great picture, alot of neat features like a pc connector and a sd slot. has plenty of diverse inputs and a few outputs to accommodate almost any home environment.

con's: only has 1 hdmi slot, it really needs more than 1. i would like PIP but i see no real reason to gripe about it. one more thing, the sound is kind of lackluster but most peeps that spring for a big tv usually get a surround soud system. so if u buy it get a surround soud system.

at first i was going to give it 4 b/c of the 1 hdmi slot but IMO the tv you are getting for the $$$$ far outweighs that 1 flaw. all panasonic need to do is in their next model, put more hdmi slots in it and if they want it to be perfect IMO add PIP.

5 comments about Sony VPLHS20 Cineza Digital Home Entertainment LCD Projector.
  1. Gorgeous colors from the HS-20. No screen door or fixed panel noise. Some reports of convergence problems. Many input options made this a choice over other units. Cons: you may need to buy several expensive cables ($50) for VGA analog input, HDMI port use. Also, HDMI port has poor quality when used with VOOM. May be a problem with all HDMI. DVI input (and component) looks great though. See avsforum dot com for futher discussions.

  2. I got my first HS20 in the beginning of January 2004. Out of the box, it didn't start up. The lamp / cover light kept blinking, no matter what I did. Sony support couldn't help me on the phone. I returned it.

I decided to give Sony another chance. Got a second one after 2 weeks. This one had a strange problem so that if I flip the picture using the menu (needed for ceiling mounting), there would be light and dark vertical bands all across the screen. I sent it to Sony's Laredo, TX service center to get it fixed. It returned back from the service center with a change in the prizm assembly, but the original problem was not addressed at all. I sent it back to the service center, and this time around, it was fixed.

I must admit though, it has worked beautifully since then. No start up problems at all. No bad pixels. No mis-alignment of panels. Colors are amazingly real.

Out of the box, picture didn't look sharp enough and contrast definitely wasn't impressive. But after some tweaking, it is now at a level where I don't think the image is washed up. Brightness is ample - it tolerates some amount of ambient light without problems. Sony's included PJ multi cable works pretty well - I couldn't find any difference in Picture Quality using the included cable or much expensive component cables.

DVI picture using Bravo D1 is stunning. It's not HDTV but very very close. And of course, HDTV is the best. The scaler seems top notch but the deinterlacer is not stellar. Most progressive scan DVD players will have a better deinterlacer.

Remote is the worst thing on this machine. It is lighted but you have to cycle through Inputs using a single button. Same for wide mode. And it's not like you can quickly cycle - there is a noticeable time lag when switching between inputs or wide modes.

Power Lens and Zoom are quite handy during setup.

Overall, I think I'm impressed for what I've got for under 3 grand - just make sure you get a working piece.

  3. Ecellent Picture quality. Light in weight. Extremely high quality images with HDTV input(IO Digital cable). DVI inputs from DVDs give better-than-theatre picture quality. Component input is equally awesome. Compare it to the size, space and weight of DLP, Projection or Plasma TVs, this is and extremlely good and a great buy. I got a it for $2.8K in Dec'03. Also works great with the PC input. Overall one heck of a display. Hats off to Sony Corp.

  4. I had this projector for over a year. Use of DVD9 format video input will provide awesome detail on my 104" wide screen. It is highly recommended.

  5. Personal Experience
After an inordinate amount of research, I finally decided on this unit.

I've connected my HS20 to my Toshiba HD-DVD player and the look is nothing short of stunning. It's honestly hard tearing myself away from the unit. The picture is that good. Had a friend over to watch the Matrix and the superlatives were flying. Just like being at the theatre was one remark.

The unit is whisper quiet. Remote is fine, while the manual could include greater detail on the unit.

If I had one negative remark for this unit, I would have wished it to be brighter. The rated 1400ANSI is dramatically reduced when the optimal settings are set. I prefer to have all the lights off in my flat and I've already got a dark room where my PJ sits. I use it exclusively for movies. I still prefer my 25inch CRT for regular viewing of the news, etc.

    Problems
    Flawless so far.

5 comments about Panasonic 50" Digital Plasma HDTV- TH50PX600U.
  1. Beware of the " Box Store "is all I can say. You literally can save five to seven hundred dollars buying this model online. No tax when buying online. Usually free shipping also.
I reviewed scores of makes and models of plasma,DLP's,and Lcd out there and the Panasonic TH-50PX600U 50" was the right one for me. If you want a plasma go with this Panny. Great HD picture. I was amazed and the standard definition at 480i. We hooked the Play Station 3 up to it via HDMI and watched 480 p dvd's (The Departed) up converted to 1080p They looked every bit as good as Blu-Ray disc (X Men). Lots a features and easy to use onscreen guide.

  2. I purchased this plasma 10/05/07 and I love it!!! It has plenty of inputs for all of my components, couple it with a home theater or strong HTIB and it will blow you away. Be sure to buy a good Hdmi cable and surge protector and you are good to go. Make sure that you have some help with assembly because the tv is HEAVY.

  3. I buy this tv by amazon just over $1500.But when i on the tv i was stant about the picture clarity & sound. For a medium size room you don,t need any home theater system. Some reviewer say that it makes lots of heat but i don,t think so.Whenever i touch the tv or try to feel it ,it alweys feels me very cold.More then a year of research finaly i decide to get it.First i think to get sumsung-5064. But some reviewrer say that its picture is good but its sound like a comes inside from the barrel. So i think if i buy this tv i have to spend more $500 for sound system.
Its sound is great and great picture also $300 less then sumsung5064.
So this is the best TV for picture sound & value.

  4. Shipping 4 days late;however, in perfect condition. Set-up easy, great picture right out of the box. 720P picture is very good, maybe the 1080P would be better; however, for the money difference, I feel the 720P is the better buy at the present time. Maybe in time, of course the 1080P, would be a better way to go. Sound quality on this TV is great! Overall, I think this is a high quality TV and you can't go wrong on this particular model.

  5. I bought this HDTV in late June 2007. I have absolutely no regrets. People can talk 1080p all they want unless you have HDDVD or bluray there is nothing out there. There isn't even that much HDTV on cable or direct tv yet. This set has great sound, if you don't have a home theater system with this TV you won't need one the sound is that good. The picture is out of this world! What you can get on cable in hi def will make it so you won't even want to watch regular tv again. Six months in and I have no complaints everything works as stated by panasonic. The sd card option is great, it makes your photos look BIG with no loss in quality, as a matter of fact they look better! I hooked up an inexpensive upconvert DVD player and my old DVD's look better than ever. This month I purchased an Onkyo HT-S894 HTIB Onkyo HTS894 5.1 Channel Complete Home Theater System w/ Single Disc DVDand now my livingroom is like a movie theater. The effect of sound and vision is out of this world I could not be happier! All of my family and friends love it. Well that about says it all, if you are considering this TV and can still find it get it now you will never regret the purchase. The newer model Panasonics which are more expensive are not as good as this model.
