  1. I just bought this model in a 32 inch and had to share.
I am in love with this television. It looks great even when its not on. Designed to be seen from all angles, so its great in the center of a room, not just against a wall. The faux wood on the back/sides is really sweet looking. The picture is great. Sound is amazing...much more volume and dimension than i expected. I have a speaker set and subwoofer for my previous tv that i have now retired...the tvs speakers deliver much better sound. Controls are simple, overall theres a well designed simplicity that reminds you of products from Apple.
Hannspree is a brand i support...quality and design are uncompromised all around. They obviously take great pride in their product. Now that its in my living room, i can't imagine having bought anything else.

  2. We've had this TV for several months. We needed a TV that fit in our built-in entertainment center (no wider than 42") at the new home we moved into. I went through BestBuy, Sears, Circuit City, Office Depot, Target, etc. looking at all the TVs. Most of the TVs out there are high glare, high gloss, and lacking basic conveniences such as accessible controls and a headphone jack that is within reach. We narrowed the choices down to Sony KDL-40V3000 (metallic/brushed steel frame, not glossy) or the Olevia 242T. First I brought home a 242T Olevia, but found the company had repackaged it in a 542T casing (meaning top heavy, and just plain heavy), and the 542T was an older model. I bought the Olevia from Office Depot. When I got home, my husband said, "are you sure this is what you wanted?" and I said "no." I think the Olevia company was trying to economize by repackaging their 242Ts in older casings that were very heavy. Target had 242Ts that were 62lbs, while the repackaged ones at Office Depot were 97lbs. Missing from the Olevia was the dark tube background (is more of a medium gray), and no accessible head phone jack (hidden in back), and the bezel casing was plain ugly.

Then on to the Sony I tried to buy. A floor model came available for a more reasonable price at Circuit City. The sales person kept telling me he was busy doing something or another at cash register, so wasn't able to purchase. I went back next day and it was gone. The Sony had more direct HDMI imputs, but was also missing an easy to access headphone jack. Also the problem with Sony is the cartoonish effect of the colors, as the tube is really too black. I've always been a Sony fan, but their flat panels are too saturated in color I find. Also the on-unit controls were somewhat hard to see.

Then we found this 37" Hannspree. I've always enjoyed walking through the Hannspree store at Union Square in SF and always thought I'd like one of their cool TVs. I'm into mod styles, and this TV fits the mod era. It also has a high quality casing, matt screen, finished look (great for our exposed media center where sides of TV are exposed), dark but not too dark tube/background, and we love that the controls are low where our kids can reach them (as they are in charge of the electronics now). Also my husband and I are happy that we can easily plug our Bose headphones into the side of the TV and watch movies, using a splitter we can both use headphones and not wake the kids.

Here are the Cons: This TV only has 1 HDMI imput, meaning I had to buy an OPPO HDMI hub for our TIVO, SONY DVD upconverting player, and Comcast Digital box (we haven't bought a home theater system yet). Also, no remote control seems to recognize this Hannspree TV, so I programmed the Sony RMVL600 to do everything (Tivo, Comcast, Hannspree, Sony DVD player). Programming a learning remote may not be for everyone, but I found it quite effortless really, and retired all the other remotes. The TV is a stand TV, not wall mount (ok for us), and it is still pretty heavy. Also, when we need to plug or unplug things, hard to swing around as feet on edge of table. We have to use a secondary table in order to plug things in. There is some glare from the chrome legs that bugged me at first, but am used to them now (still much better than glare on the actual screen like so many of the plasmas, or on frame like most all the others have with their "piano black" gloss finishes).

Overall, found this TV to be a great deal for under $1000! No others even came close for the price!

  1. There aren't many 19 inch white LCD TVs to choose from, but this is a winner. To begin with, the styling is great with a narrow white shiny plastic bezel. The set is small and light-weight for the picture size and looks great in our kitchen. This set does not carry the Aquos moniker, so is to be considered entry level.
It should not be confused with the LC19 SK24UW, which costs $50 more and has a magnetic remote with a digital clock on the back. Otherwise, the 2 models seem to be the same. Set up is easy and there are plenty of inputs on the back. The set can also be wall mounted, but the mount is not included. Picture and sound are excellent, considering the small speakers, but be sure to use an hdmi cable for sharpest, most colorful picture. HD is outstanding. A large number of control settings allow a good range of adjustment for brightness, color and contrast. Some minor issues, which I have seen in all LCDs this size, is that the picture appears darker when viewed from some angles, and the stand does not tilt. Overall, I can recommend and would purchase again.

  2. Just got this TV last weekend - it's beautiful on and off. Picture is sharp. Programming/setup is easy. Remote control is well organized. I like the "favorite channel" which are grouped in separate buttons.

Only minor complain is the manual or online should have better information about the digital channel. Since this TV has ATSC+QAM, you can receive unscrambled digital channel from the coaxial cable straigth to the TV. However, the TV groups the digital channels separately from the analog (instead of intertwine). There were no mention of this on the manual or online.

The seller (thru Vann's) was great - they update the progress of the purchase via email at every stage. Got the TV on the date as promised.

Overall- I think this TV is great.

  3. I was hesitant to buy a television online because you can stand in the store and see a great difference in picture quality between sets running side by side. I am very pleased with this set and the reviews written by others was the main reason I chose it. The picture quality is outstanding and the set is beautiful hanging on my wall. I placed this in the kitchen and I love the fact that it is white, so it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb on my wall. This set is beautiful whether it is on or off.

  4. This is a beautiful addition to my kitchen and I love everyhting about it as the white looks great in my kitchen. The picture is fantastic and I use this with a DirecTV HD reciever. My only complaint about this TV is the volume. I have to turn it to the max setting to watch HD and thats all I like to watch anymore since I have DirectTV. Even at the max setting the volume is not high enough to hear if you have other noise going on (it's a kitchen) and I end up sometimes switching to non HD where the volume is acceptable, but only turned up almost to the max. I have played with the different volume settings and always the same result. I have even tried non HDMI cabling to see if that helped, but it did not. I realize that the DirectTV broadcast could be to blame and HD programming I have read is usually at a lower volume, but my 65" Mittsubishi in my living room has none of these problems. Today I'm going to try buying a mini stereo so I can set up a few external speakers and run the sound through them. All in all a wonderful TV that I would have given five stars to if not for this volume problem. Don't let it stop you from buying the TV. It's more anoyance than it is a huge problem.

  5. This is a great T.V....The picture is clear, the stand tilts, is has the energy star, it does not manipulate the image, as in, it does not make the people on the television short and stubby( which was one on my main concerns), It's easy to assemble, I don't find a problem with the volume, I think the volume is ok for this size tv..All in all this is a great and beautiful tv...I bought it based on the reviews that I read, and they are all accurate...The best thing of all that I find about the tv, which is the main reason I bought it, is that is light weight...I am in college and the tv that I had is pretty good but it was one of those that had a big back, which made it difficult for me when it was time to move, because I could not lift it...I had to get someone to move it for me...I am very happy with this tv...

  1. I have owned this tv for about a month now. The picture is amazing. Xbox 360 looks super sharp and Upconverted dvd's look great as well. The remote control and manual are relatively straight forward and easy to understand. I have my dvd player hooked to the HDMI 1 input and can see a great difference over component video. My only complaint is that the tv Will Not convert audio from HDMI to Optical. This is an major annoyance considering it is a digital signal just getting rerouted. The tv has one optical out which I am currently not using do to the non conversion problem. Hopefully Toshiba will update this.

  2. Have had the 56mx195 for 2 months now, picture is not $2700.00 worth.Halo's around the letters on the screen are always present(ie your TV guide, subtitles ect)color is always off .Going to call a tv repair man in,it's still under warranty and see if he can straightened out the picture problem. Now of course besides not being that happy with the TV in the first place the bulb went out on me last night.2 months old "unsatisfactory"!!I called Toshiba, all I got was that they would send me a bulb in a week.Lucky for me I bought the TV at a really reputable video store and he went in the back and took a bulb out of a TV in the back to get me going again. He told me that if I still had the box the TV came in I could return the tv.Really thinking about it.God I miss my 15 year old 52 inch Hitachi. Now for some of the good points.DVD's look pretty good on it when being played,it comes with a swivel stand. It also come's with a lot of extra's that the average tv watcher will probably never use.Think twice before you buy this tv.

  3. My first set came new out of the box with a "buzzing" sound. I had read that DLP's can be a bit noisy, so I tried to ignore it at first. After a week or so I called the retailer I purchased it from who agreed it shouldn't be buzzing. They sent their repairman out who determined I needed a new engine, but my retailer just gave me a brand new tv instead.

My second set has no buzzing! However, after about 6 weeks (and this is a brand new, out of the box tv) the bulb burst! Luckily the local repair facility had bulbs in stock and it is very easy to replace.

Even with those problems I recommend this tv. The picture quality is absolutely fantastic! It's going for around $1700, which is what I paid, and it's worth every penny. The picture is so good I haven't even bothered upgrading my Directv subscription to HD - it looks great with a regular digital signal.

My advice is to buy this tv along with an extended warranty that also covers bulb replacement. I bought an additional 4-year, on-site repair including bulb replacement for $220. If it weren't for the problems I've had so far, I would rate this a 5-star!
