- Another excellent product from Panasonic! It's lightweigth and has a great lamp (2000 lumens for under $1k!). My only concern has to do exactly with what I was looking for in a projector: a powerful lamp. Because it is so powerful it has to have an equally powerful cooling solution. And thus the fan. Two noisy fans, actually.
I think Panasonic should have to start looking into liquid cooling solutions...
Anyway, great product and a great store: fast and reliable.

5 comments about LG Electronics 50PC5D 50" 720p Plasma HDTV.
- In a nutshell -- looks elsewhere. That's my opinion after owning this model. Why? The main reason is that HDMI on the 50PC5D is not done right.
I own this same model, LG 50PC5D, but the in-Korea version (just 1 input HDMI in the back).
Through HDMI, you will notice a water-colored look to your standard DVDs, and other issues at HD resolutions (due to what's called false contouring/banding) and problems with 1080i input. You will also see a lot more image retention problems. HDMI on this model is screwed.
The only solution is to use other inputs, like component.
In this digital age, we expect the digital input, HDMI, to work properly. When I send a signal through HDMI from my PS3, it can't do the 1080i signal right. At first look, it seems fine, until you check text and the image up close. You will see a jump in the characters every few seconds. This only happens at 1080i (not 720p).
Here is a Google video of the problem, which is really noticable on the PS3 menu screen. Notice the pulse every so often, and lines that jump:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2401674401223499446
There is also a lot of problem with image retention on this model, but that's mostly through HDMI (no component).
HDMI through this TV also seems to bypass the internal circuitry that helps clear up banding/false contouring. I have a lot of this when going through HDMI. It isn't a problem when watching TV station content, or when I use other inputs than HDMI. When using the HDMI input, however, my PS3 menu looks noticably different at all resolutions (from banding/false contouring). Some people call this banding/false contouring a "watercoloring" effect.
My only option was to try component inputs. Those worked very well, and the image looks great, but I lose certain functionality of my PS3, like standard DVD upscaling through HDMI, and Full RGB.
LG has been to my house 5 times to work on these different issues, and changing internal circuit boards didn't solve the problem. The service guy was stumped, took videos of the problem, and said he's passing it up the chain to the techs above him.
When I use component inputs (I had to buy the PS3 component out module) these problems go away, and the TV looks really good. So I use component. I ALSO HAVE FAR FEWER IMAGE RETENTION ISSUES THROUGH COMPONENT on this TV. Odd as it is, it's very, very true.
LG seems to have problems with HDMI on this model. If you are able, try the Component inputs, and forget about HDMI. The difference is night and day.
On another note, I had a buzzing problem with this TV. It made a very loud buzz that was annoying. They came out and added some kind of pads behind the circuitboards, and the noise was cut down by maybe 70%. It's still not perfect, but it's livable.
I wanted to trade this in and get a refund, but LG Korea refused, because I bought it at an LG store.

- I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and love it. I AM NOT a gamer and use it for hi def cable and dvds. This TV makes analog signals look great and the hi def is crystal clear. I had a problem with the HDMI connection but once connected to RGB it is working great. (I also had problems with HDMI on my older Toshiba 50" and in this case I think it is a cable issue.) Sound is also good. I would definitely buy this set again. I have had no problems with image retention but am careful to try to maximize the image on the screen which is easy with the ratio control. Overall 5 stars for me.
- My husband and I purchased this product in June, 2007. From the time we connected the set there was a problem with the screen. Our set has a thin black horizonal line thru middle of the screen. We were instructed to contact LG for warranty. LG told us to contact their local contracted service company. The service company has been out twice and has changed 3 boards and we still have the line. LG has been uncooperative about replacing the TV. It has not worked since DAY 1 !
- Perfect. The image on this TV is amaizing, as good as the real high dollar sets, better than most. NO HDMI issues on mine what so ever.
- I did so much research on plasmas before buying my first one. We have a $6,500 TV rear projection here that is top of the line... but the non-HD channels look horrible. I've also owned LCDs made by olevia and the non-HD channels look horrible. I think this is the norm with HDTVs. The problem is, most cable providers only offer around 25 channels in HD. The LG has an XD Engine that makes most of these non-HD shows on digital cable look near-HD. Some channels for some reason don't look that good, but most look amazing. The reason I chose the LG originally was because I came up on a price I could not turn down, but if I could choose again, I would buy this same Plasma. The quality is really good, the price is the best and I have had none of the problems listed on other reviews. It's a beautiful TV (glossy black) and I'm confident you would be happy with your purchase, unless you're some TV affeccianado then you should probably spend the $4,500 on the real high end stuff.

3 comments about Toshiba 62MX195 - Cinema HD - rear projection TV ( DLP ) - 62" - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV.
- Originally I was going to purchase the Sony KDS-R60XBR1, I stoped into a local retailer to look around and they had this TV next to the Sony. At first I thought the Toshiba did not have good contrast, but after messing with the contrast & Brightness we got them looking about the same.
To be honest I was worried about the fact that I am still using only Analog Cable (480i). I thought that the picture was going to be grainy... To my delight the picture for most channels is great, I sit approximately 12 feet from the TV, and to me I think its a Great picture, I can hardly wait to get a true Digital image better than 480i. I will warn you tho some channels are better than others, one of the local channels looks like it has a hint of snow...
My old Proscan (RCA) DVD player (circa 1999) casts a great picture through the component hookup, even though its only 480i, and again with a quality DVD like Finding Nemo (I bet you can tell I have kids) it has an awesome picture. My 2 year old son is just mesmorized by it... I leave the picture in native mode for the most part, where the sides are Black, If you stretch a 4x3 picture it becomes grainy... An enlarged picture is ok, but I like a little more head room...
The Remote control was a little awkward at first, and finding that button that I know is there somewhere sometimes gets lost. But after 3 days I am becoming familiar with it.
Apparently the TV I purchased was too large for someone elses living room, it is BIG, REAL BIG, so if you sit closer than 12 feet you might consider a smaller set. Also I had a heck of a time finding an entertainment center that had a TV stand which was 57" or wider. THe TV is approximately 37" x 57".
The picture is Bright, VERY bright, and with a 150W Bulb I put the bulb on low power and it was better for my room. There is a lot of light in my room too, so I was pleasantly surprised. Admittedly at night with the lights off, its still a little hard on the eyes, so a light in the corner is on to help with that.
THere is a known potential problem with original bulbs on certain serial numbers, Toshiba is aware of this and extends the Bulbs warrenty to 2 years if in the range.
In heindsight, I am glad I got this set over the Sony, not only did I save $1000, The Bottom speakers make it much narrower than the Sony (about 9 inches to be exact). The extra 2" larger display is a plus but its not like it matters much on a set of this size.
Overall its an excellent set...
- Wow.
I went looking for a TV looking for an obvious bargain. I could not have found a better TV. This TV originally being released late in 2005 can be had for a good deal. If you are buying a TV it's never a bad idea to buy models that are being sold making way for new models. This is a 1080p display TV so it's not like the new models are gonna be THAT much better. Atleast not $1000 better which is probably gonna be the difference in price.
I've been watching some HDTV (discovery and HDnet the 2 channels that broadcast the highest definition signal "1080p") and the quality I get rivals that of some of the dedicated "fancy" 1080p demos you see some of the most expensive models displaying. . Don't fall for that. Stores just do that so they can sell while the price is high. So they'll put a fancy dedicated demo on their newer $5000 and above models. Go for the bargain. At 62 inches and 1080p, this is one BANG for your BUCK tv!!
- I've had this TV for 14 months now, and the picture is still fantastic. I've never had a problem with this tv. No bulb replacements, nothing. regular cable or HD is fantastic. you can't go wrong with this model of the Toshiba.
