- Right out of the box this was a fantastic HDTV and I haven't had a single complaint about it yet. Found a great deal on Amazon with free shipping. Only has one HDMI input which is somewhat limiting other than that absolutely superb picture quality.
- I have no complaints about this Sony! The sound and picture are unbelievable. I love the Sony name and this flat screen does not disappoint!
- Great picture. I finally got aronud to purchasing an HDMI cable for my DVD player and the picture is astounding.
- This is a super TV...The price from Amazon beats
all of the discount stores and even Sams Club.
Shipping from Eagle was very good. I am very satisfied.
- After much searching and researching I decided on this set - I was very pleased to see Amazon listing it for hundreds less than anyone else and wnet ahead and made the purchase. I have been very pleased - the picture is really pretty fantastic when connected to an HD source.

5 comments about Sharp Aquos LC42D62U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
- We were planning to buy an HDTV for sometime now. My wife did a whole lot of research and we zeroed in on Sharp. Good brand, great looking TV and not as pricey as a Sony...
We have an apartment and the initial few movies took us time to get used to...then we started loving it.
A friend of ours came over and recommended that we need to get a HDMI cable. we got the cable and man what a difference!!!
The picture quality on DVD's is just awesome...I tell you this is a great TV and we love it...we bought it directly at TigerDirect..great site...good service and no complaints...
PS: Dont waste too much time in research....Sony, Sharp and Samsung should be your final three
- Since we bought this tv, we have had nothing but problems with it and with Sharp. During the first month, we returned it to the store due to a banding issue. During the second month, we called the company to use the warranty to return it again due to the same banding issue. They sent us a new tv which came with yet another banding issue and dark vertical lines that looked like a burn in. We called the company to use the warranty again and they decided to send us the new model(64U), which we just received. This is our 4th tv which is not a new one, but a refurbished one, that came without the correct mounting screws and without a power cord. The only thing Sharp said they could do for us was send us the cord & screws, so in the meantime we are left without a tv.
- I was delighted when I received my new 42" Aquos. Everything I expected and more. Unfortunately after about a week it started to experience the banding that I have read about in other reviews. I called sharp, they asked me to send about 5 or 6 digital pictures of the line and give them a couple of day to review them. Three days later I called them back and spoke with a representative who informed me tje TV was going to be exchanged and upgrade it to the LC-42D64U from the LC-42D62U that I had ordered. Because of the holiday season the shipping took a little longer than I would have liked but received my new TV in about two weeks. I was very impressed that they were so helpful and that my TV was replaced. I would not hesitate buying anything else from them.
- Keep in mind this tv is a replacement for a 13 year old 20" panasonic tv/vcr. This Aquos was a replacement for the first one I ordered. I ordered a 32" one but it arrived with a cracked screen (thank you UPS!). I contacted techforless and they said they didnt have the 32" model in stock anymore, so they cut me a deal with this one, which is from the same series. It took over a week to receive the new tv, so if you're in a hurry keep that in mind when getting an order through eagle service. I ended up paying about $900 for it. I have this tv in my bedroom, so it's a little too big. set up was very easy and the picture quality is superb. After hooking up my xbox 360, I couldnt get any sound to come out. This was fixed by purchasing an HDMI cable. Gaming is awesome on this set along with watching dvds. I dont have a Bluray player yet, so I cant comment on how good that will look.
- If you have tons of money to spend, of course get the best in the market - Sony Bravia series. If not, this TV costs a lot less, but has almost as good image quality as those.
I got a 32" Aquos first, then I fell in love with the TV. I realized it was too small. Instead of returning it, I bought another one - this one. It was an excellent decision. Now it sits elegantly in my living room and provides us entertainment every night. I use it to watch HD channels (free ones...if you have an antenna, you can receive many HD channels) and I use it to watch foreign TV shows (I have a slingbox hooked up to the TV in another country). Of course, you need to connect a pc to the TV......
Overall, I love the TV and my family LOVE it too!

- Mine has been going south with the vertical green bar problem for the past couple of months. Green bar(s) growing in intensity over time. No point in replacing parts, the fundamental technology is flawed; after another 9 months, it will fail again. I cannot believe Sony did not know about this defect in the system. My guess is that they released it to the field in an attempt to recoup their investment costs. For the first time ever, if a Class Action starts on this one, I will join.
DO NOT BUY INTO THIS TECHNOLOGY!!!
- I held off for years on buying a large format TV because of the considerable cost. I bought this from Circuit City 14 months ago, and I am getting an ugly green tinge to the picture. I purchased the extended service plan, so I was thinking perhaps it's just the light bulb going and I'll be all right. Well the serviceman walks in, looks for 2 seconds and says "I know what's causing it; we have been seeing a lot of this recently. He went on to explain, that of anything that could go wrong, this is the most expensive as it is essentially the heart of the system. Well at that point I stopped feeling better and felt I may be dealing with a bad design. I came to the Amazon website and read reviews of one person after another having issues with this model. Now I feel like I'm screwed as I see no reason this wont keep repeating. Buyer Beware, Avoid Sony Products.
- This model and the 60 " version
are on the recall list. Stay away
from this one. Defective light engine
which is the heart of the TV. Just had
mine replaced now the entire picture has
blue hue. This is a $1000 plus repair
Sony is only covering this part for another
year. Now I have a worked on $3000 plus piece
of junk. My $150 Target tube TV gets a better
overall picture. The underpaid Sony Reps could
care less, Just like upper management. Going
to sell this junk at a deep discount don't need
the aggravation with Sony or their service techs.
- When "everyone" (friends, co-workers, consumer reviews) said the Sony Wega SXRD was THE BEST HDTV, I splurged and spent $2600 in January 2007 on a KDS-R50BR1 as a retirement gift for myself. The picture wasn't as sharp as I expected but I blamed it on the antiquated cable wiring in my apartment building. Nine months later the screen went black and the "fun" began - scheduling and waiting for repairmen, sending the set to the repair shop, waiting for part after back-ordered part to be tried in the set. After eight weeks of repeated phone calls to the dealer, repair shop and Sony, Sony finally gave me a replacement - a REFURBISHED set, the same model as the piece of junk that I bought. What a nightmare! Now that I'm learning about all the problems others are having I'm just waiting for it to start all over again. My confidence in Sony is shot.
- I've owned this TV since 10/2005, and it worked great until about a month ago. Now the greenish tint that others complain about has arrived. I do have an extended warrenty, and Sony did send a repairman to check my set. Yes, the light engine is out of whack. The service guy said it is covered by warrenty, but he isn't sure if Sony will replace the light engine or provide another set. We'll see what happens next.
3/7/08 Sony says it will repair my set with a new light engine. Is that engine going to be more dependable than the original one that has failed on so many sets? The local TV service person says the new light engine has been fixed. Sony discovered the cause of the problem and fixed it. I hope so. This TV offers a great picture--when it's not tinted green. We'll see what happens next.
3/11/08 My set has been repaired and it works great now. No charge for the repair. Local TV repair service did a did good job and returned my set quickly. Will the new light engine hold up better than the original? We'll see what happens next.

- to the person with troubles, i doubt the troubles are with the t.v. if it happens to be defective, send it back. duh.
to the student, no one cares, boo hoo. It's 200 and 3! you've never seen a $3000.00 t.v.?
- O.K.----I think our man Steve from CA. might have been better served if he had read the owner's manual first, and then had professional installation. THIS IS NOT A HDTV! It will take the signal, but will have to "dumb it down" to display. But that display is absolutely gorgeous: sharp colors, wide viewing angle and NO artifacts.
As for using the display as a computer monitor, I would be hard pressed to recommend it any higher. As with all viewsonic monitors I have owned in the past, apps from word processing to the newest games are just perfect. I connected my cable to a media center computer I built, and now use a nifty program called Snapstream that puts the old TIVO to shame! Now my wife can tape her soaps, easily burn her favorites to DVD, check her E-Mail, surf the web, video chat with her mom, play Tetris (O.K.---she's a little behind the times in her gaming!), find that song she has been looking for, etc----all from the comfort of our bed. She's now happy as a clam, which any guy will tell you pays the ol' hubby dividends far greater than the sub 3K cost of the unit. And I must admit, I can't wait for Halflife II on a big monitor with the display settings jacked to the max! Two caveats: Again, no HDTV. Perhaps more importantly, if you are going to set this unit up yourself, you ought be an enthusiast. Trying the many input choices enabled me to decide on the best option for myself, which proved to be the DVI for the computer, and the S-Video for all TV functionality except for DVD playback, which benefits with progressive scan connections (you know, that red blue yellow thingy). If you rely on the manual alone, you are apt to be left confused, as it is far too brief and poorly written. If you feel, as I do, that the PC is the future engine to drive home entertainment, this unit is an excellent partner!
- Im sure the other guys were impressed with this unit .Im not.If you can manage to get the picture bright enough be prepared to hear a nice loud humming sound!!Ive used it with all connections tried.Even with the 17 pin connect to my comp it was dissapointing and the sound from any white background is disgraceful!Forget about burn in as well. Its going to happen..Youd better spend the extra money and not cheap out as I did..I kept Myself to spending under 10 thousand bucks to redo my room ,this is just for electronics.I use it for my bedroom cause of lack o space. My SONY bigscreen is best pic Ive seen so far.Ill save my cash and get a sony plasma next..Oh and the heat is insane,No one mantioned this so I doubt if they truly even bought one.I wish I wasnt first to get this TV no reviews were out back then...
- Even at the low price, this TV managed to disappoint in all categories. The remote is a giant brick with all the important buttons hidden under a slider. The image quality was fuzzy and poor. The screen would glitch every once in a while for no apparent reason. Any white or bright area on the TV (even with the brightness turned down low) would cause a terrible BUZZING sound from inside the unit. Weighing in at 90 pounds, it was difficult to even rotate it a little by yourself.
Let me put it this way -- I had the TV for about 2 months before someone broke into my office and stole it. I was actually happy to see it go.
- This viewsonic T.V. is great as long as you know how to hook it up. Unlike regular T.V.'s if you hook up to this T.V. using the Coax Cable the picture will be awful. Now if you hook up using the S-Video, Componet, or Composite Video the picture will be perfect. That's why Plasma's are considered monitors instead of T.V.'s What the cable and satilite companies don't tell you is that you 50% of signal strength when you use the coax cable hook-up, or what others call the RF adapter. Regular T.V.'s can make up for this signal loss plasma's can't. So for all you out there do some research before you buy a Plasma.
