5 comments about Philips 37PF9631D 37-Inch LCD HDTV with Ambilight.
- Replaced my rear projection Wega with this unit and I am pleased with the TV except for a few items.
The ambilight is wonderful, some people see it as a gimmick but i find the viewing is much nicer and adds to the room. Maybe a light behind the TV would be as good, but I don't think so.
The picture is sharp and crisp and the different formats make viewing non-HD channels that much easier.
The speakers are in need of an upgrade they are tinny and have no bottom, if not for the surround system, this TV would have went back to the supplier. In addtion there is no way to turn them off, with the SONY I could turn off the TV speakers and opt for the output only which helps in TV watching.
All in all its a great upgrade.
- We bought the Philips 37" LCD TV in August of 06. It stopped working and would not turn on in November of 07. We took the TV to the Philips recommended repair shop. Their first repair did not fix the problem and there it sits waiting for parts. We are very unhappy and will never purchase another Philips product!
- We bought this LCD from a large retailer. Picture is fantastic, ambilight is beautiful. Reliability terrible. After 12 months & 2 weeks (of course after manufacturers warranty expired) it failed. TV will not turn on and picture would go black while it was on. Controls wouldn't work either on remote or physically on TV. To turn it off we had to unplug it. TV has extended warranty but we have been waiting for parts for over a month. Service people say Power Supply on TV is bad. Needless to say we won't buy another Philips.
- I bought this TV back in December of 06 and it just died March 08! I was watching TV one night and the next day it would not turn on, I would just get a flashing red light. I am told its a faulty signal board or power board. I see other people have had the same problem after the same amount of time of owning the TV. I am not sure if its even worth repairing.....I would not recommend this TV.
- I purchased this TV in Dec 06 at a retail store. Like many other's I have had the same problem. The TV will no longer power on and shows a flashing red light. The unit wasn't used heavily but still managed to give up after the warranty, I was lucky enough to purchase the extended warranty but go figure seems like a lot of these units fail from other reviews. When I searched it is true, this is a common problem. Great picture, Ambilight was very cool, but too bad it doesn't work.
