5 comments about Mitsubishi WD-57731 57-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV.
  1. First Tv arrived broke, could of happened from any retailer. Was replaced with no hassle it was appreciated kinda worried about an online purchase like this but after its said and done no complaints

Tv is touchy though likes to find reasons to shut off but give it a minute it usually turns right back on. had it almost a year now never repaired it and i think its only picky in hot humid conditions so you have to spoil it with a cool room in the summer. Blu ray is breath taking on it got to love 1080p

  2. I have had the TV exactly one year, seocnd lamp has burned out. Ihave faxed my documentation to the Tech Support Group twice, the first time they threw is away, some excuse about not seeing my address which was on the cover letter. Just faxed it a second time they were to call as soon as it was recieved, did not happen. The tech support person said that they know there are design problems and that the lamp overheats, they claim they will continue to replace the lamps for no cost. Getting them to send on is a hassle, being out the use of the TV for a week every few months is inevitable. Mitsubishi should replace these TV's.

  3. We have had this TV since Feb. 2007 and are on our second lamp. That's $500 dollars per year. I'm glad I have the no interest payments, but it probably would have been better to buy a more expensive plasma or LCD then this piece of garbage. Oh, it's the second one we had too. The first one was taken back and exchanged for one that would work.

  4. 10 months worked fine. If you want to shell out big bucks for that amount of time, please buy. We are on our fourth lamp. Mitsubishi sent a local rep to assist...said he couldn't fix the tv. Still under the first year warranty and constantly put off by customer service. This is now 13 months and still a no-fix situation. Told we will be contacted in another week. This is totally unsat. I personally will stay away from any DLP tv in the future.

  5. I purchased the WD57731 from The Big Screen Store in August 2006. In November 2007 the light engine died. It took two weeks for the tech to come to the house to inform me that he couldn't fix it there. Two weeks later, I get a call informing me that the parts were backordered. The TV was not repaired until January 2008.

Now, in September 2008, the TV won't even turn on. I've tried the unplug overnight trick and the reset button trick. I called for service three days ago, talked to a machine, no return call. I called again today, Tuesday, talked to a machine. Four hours later, still waiting for a return call. I agree with the post suggesting a class action suit. Is there a lemon law for TVs? By the way, I also called Mitsubishi customer service. I did speak to a person, but they were no help. They said to call them after the service is delivered. I guess my next stop is back to the Big Screen Store to discourage their customers.

  1. I saw this PJ in action last night. The source was a Sony BluRay DVD player and a BR pressing of Spiderman 2. The picture clarity was amazing. Rock solid image with (not surprisingly) incredible definition. I can't, however give it 5 stars. Perhaps the colour calibration was not perfect (altough Sony reps were on hand so "their bad" if they set it up poorly) - in particular the reds were far too prominent.

This is a 3 chip, native 1920x1080 unit, so no colour wheel and, hence, no rainbow effects. It also runs super quiet (again, no wheel) and pushes surprisingly little air out of the read-ported vent. The air that was coming out *was* pretty hot, so any room that hosts this bad boy should have good ventilation.

It's an attractive unit and, stealing from Apple, the "sony" logo is rear-lit when the unit is turned on. The screen was a pretty small Stewart Filmscreens Greyhawk, so contrast ratios were additionally boosted. Due to the small size, the image was exceptionally bright.

At this resolution, it was interesting to note how clearly computer generated the Spiderman scene appeared. On SD units, there's enough softening of the edges to hide the CG nature of the image and complete the illusion. At HiDef res, however, the blue-screen and CG became quite obvious.

Hollywood Actors/Actresses: beware! Your wrinkles and blemishes will soon be splashing their way across 120" HiDef screens all over the world! :)

At under $9K for a 3-chip DLP, Sony have really thrown down the gauntlet with this one. Expect competitors to follow and hopefully we'll all be able to afford something of this spec within just a few more years.
