  1. I've owned this TV monitor for six months now, and I am delighted with my purchase. I had been searching for a flat-screen TV that was reasonably-priced and had a good, sharp picture. I compared this TV in a store to several others in its price range. This was the clear winner. It has a beautiful picture and great sound. (I am pleased that my TV has no dead pixels, either.)

This is a monitor, not a TV, so you do need a cable box. I have a digital HD box through Adelphia cable. The HD channels on this TV are outstanding. The persons on screen might as well be standing in front of you. I have never tried to use this as a computer monitor, so I cannot speak to how it would work, but it is a wonderful TV. And, despite Westinghouse's reputation for having bad remotes, the remote control on this TV works well. It is very easy to switch from HDTV to regular TV.

All in all, I am delighted. My only regret is not having bought a larger Westinghouse TV -- but that would have meant paying much more!

  2. Just purchased & RETURNED this tv. We were thrilled when we took it out of the box..until we set it up. The sound is AWFUL. The sound waves from very low to extremely loud - so loud that it actually makes a popping noise. And, no it wasn't only when commercials came on - it is continuous. Unfortunately for us I did not do any sort of research before purchasing the tv. Now that I've put in a couple of searches on this tv, I see that I wasn't the only person who had issues with the sound. It seems to be the #1 complaint on this model. It is unfortunate because Westinghouse is a good name brand. We did return this set and purchase a slightly more expensive model that is not a Westinghouse. Hope this helped out.

  3. I just purchased this TV, and I am very pleased with it. I did not expect fancy features and surround-like sound, but a basic LCD TV that was inexpensive and expandable. I actually like the fact that it doesn't have a built-in HDTV tuner - that lets the price stay low (I will call up my cable company to upgrade to HDTV in a few days). Without HDTV, the picture quality isn't the best when you're close up, but with HDTV (as I saw in the store) it's just as great as the more expensive brands. The salesman told me how customers come back and complain about the picture quality, but this kind of TV is made to be used with HDTV (evident with the display model they had). The sound isn't bad - it's good enough for this price (for reviewers who complain about this - you get what you pay for, and if you want better sound quality, go for a more expensive model). My set has no dead pixels at all, and unlike what others said, the remote works fine. The menu can get a bit confusing to use, but it's manageable. The documentation is minimal, but you can probably find more info on it online. Overall, I am very happy for finding an LCD for such a low price (I went to J&R for it - great service, the set is priced at $799.99 in store and $699.99 on their site, they were happy to give it to me for the online price). I recommend it for people who really want an LCD but can't afford one over $1,000. I'm looking forward to getting HDTV, and enjoying years with this LCD TV.

  1. TV is hanging like a computer this is the worst thing that can happen to a TV.
Picture is fluctuating between color and balck & white.
No auto tuning of channels. If we have 100 channels then you have to adjust manually 200 times.
Worst customer service from view sonic.

My suggestion is never buy view sonic tv.

  2. I had terrible problems with this TV from day one. Every time I turned the TV on, I was greeted with a loud screeching sound that would send me leaping out of my chair. I had to turn the tv on, immediately off again, and when I turned it back on, the sound would be gone. Sometimes it could be resolved by changing channels, but this still didn't change the fact that I had to dealing with the blaring noise every time it was turned on.

I called ViewSonic and they told me it was probably a problem with the speakers and I had to ship it to them in CA. I was warned that if the problem didn't occur when the technicians tried it, they would not send me a new one. I had to plead with them to send me a shipping label since it would be extremely expensive for me to ship it from the east coast (not to mention the fact that I no longer had the box, and they offered me no solution to that problem, even when I told them it would surely break during shipment.)

I even bought a high-quality home theater a/v system to avoid using the speakers so I wouldn't have to ship the TV back, but the sound was transmitted through the new audio system.

    Never buying ViewSonic again!

  3. I'm currently going on 2 months of not having my TV due to Viewsonic's awful Customer Service and Warranty repair.

This tv went out on me 3 weeks AFTER the warranty expired. Started flickering and would just go black. I argued with them to provide warranty service on it, since I found it ridiculous that it was a matter of a few weeks difference. They agreed to take it back (with me having to send it for $70 to Calif). So, at least I was getting it fixed, which started off as a good experience with them... even though I shouldn't have to deal with it anyways.

Their warranty repair claims they can take up to 15 business days to fix and send back. I had to call several times to check the status, and had not been for me calling several days after, it wouldn't have been sent (it took approximately 1 month to get the TV sent back). Not to mention sent via UPS ground taking another 7 days.

I pull the TV out, set it up, check the serial number in case they decided to give me a new one. 3 hours later, it goes out on me again. It's my guess that they turned it on at their repair shop, it worked for a few minutes, and they sent it back without even doing anything (claiming no issue).

I call and they offer to send me a NEW one this time, but needed to get the old one back first. They give me a shipping label. 7 days of ground shipping, I find that it's arrived back there. Days go by, I call to check the status (keep in mind, every time I call I wait on hold for 45 min to 1 hour). They haven't even set a replacement to send yet... WTF? Are we in no rush at this point?

They tell me they now have a new one sending back, and it'll go out in a day or so. A week goes by, I expect to have it showing up any day. I decide to call again to get a tracking number. Hour later, they tell me, "Hmm for some reason it shows that the warehouse hasn't sent it out for some reason yet. I'm escalating it to 2-day air to send out."

Here's the funny thing, I call the next day to get tracking, 1 hour later on hold, they tell me the same thing. And to call in a few days to get the tracking number. Hello?! In a few days, I'm supposed to have my tv back.

Holy cow.. most ridiculous company I've ever dealt with. Seriously. My tv broke right before I went on a 2 week trip in early October. I took everything in stride, thinking "Well, even though I have to pay $70, at least it happened right before my trip. When I get back, my tv should have arrived already." .. Guess again. I'm now on to exactly 2 months dealing with this, and no TV to show. Can't wait to see what arrives... if it's even shipped yet.

I've dealt with Apple warranty repair... you go maybe 2 days without your product. Overnight box is shipped to you, paid for. They send it back to you overnight a day later. Take some cues from a real company. If you say you're going to fix something, make sure you take care of the customer.

  4. I purchased this TV "new/reconditioned" and it broke 6 months later.

Turns out that, despite the explanation that a "new/reconditioned" item is returned to "new" condition, Viewsonic only warranties it for 90-days (rather than the 1-year warranty given with a "new/new" product).

Guess it's on my head that I didn't realize that I should've counted myself lucky for that full extra 90 days of television watching that I got after that initial 90 days of warranty coverage.

I'll never buy another Viewsonic product and I will be VERY VERY careful from here on out to read the fine print in ANY reconditioned product warranty that I consider.

  5. We purchased this TV over 1 year ago.
1 month later IR stopped working on TV - no remote. Support sent me a new remote and closed my ticket. We just used the Digital Box remote but have to adjust sound manually. 4 months ago coax connector just stopped working - have to now use A/V cable from box.
Now sound is completely distorted - speakers on TV are toast.
We are running out of work around options.
    This TV is just junk.
    DO NOT BUY

  1. Although Toshiba lists this as a 35" TV the screen actually measures a full 36"; I know this because I just bought one and have measured it. I bought this TV because I wanted a good large screen TV with a very sharp picture at a reasonable price. Sharp pictures at reasonable prices are typical of Toshiba TVs, which may well be the best buys currently available.

Yes, this model -- despite it's sharp picture -- is not high-definition and it has the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio rather than a widescreen 16:9 ratio. But my cable system currently broadcasts 175 channels in the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio and only 9 widescreen high-definition channels. Widescreen 16:9 TVs have smaller pictures with gray bars on the side when displaying traditional 4:3 channels. Furthermore, because the screen on this TV is so large, when I watch letter-boxed widescreen DVDs the picture size is quite acceptable.

Widescreen high-definition broadcasts and widescreen high-definition TVs will be the norm in a few years, at which time the prices of such sets will be significantly lower than they are now. However, with the current situation where most channels still display traditional 4:3 pictures and only a few are in widescreen and high definition, a large screen 4:3 TV is a good economical choice for many people at this time.

  2. I'm a Profesional audio Video installer constantly installing the latest technologies from DLP, Plasma, LCD, and some CRT's and I bought this TV after the first time I saw it, as a DirecTV subscriber some programs although are not aired in HD you can definetly tell when a program was recorded in HD this TV looks fantastic, this technology is almost out but for those of us who don't have 2,3,4 thousand to spend on an HDTV I defintly recomend it over more expensive tv's including Sony's XBR. It's heavy but not as heavy as a Sony.

  1. This tv has been a great purchase for me. Got it for $1,000 at Sams Club (floor model) and I have been very happy with it. Tons of options, great picture, tons of inputs. Everything you need in an hdtv. The only problem is the weight, but you probably knew that already. If you don't need a huge screen, then this is a great choice. Picture tubes give the best picture.

  2. This TV is the same as the one advertised by Dish Network for 999.00 all inclusive HDTV package. I highly recommend this package if your are interested in true HDTV. I attached a Zenith Silver Sensor antenna to receive Over The Air Network broadcasts and the total package is incredible. Dish made a deal with RCA to manufacture this D34W20 TV and put a Dish Logo on the front instead of an RCA logo

  3. I have the RCA D34W20 that was sold by Dish network as part of the HDTV in a box package. The only difference is the logo on the front. At first I wasn't sure what to expect but after I set it up I was amazed at the HD picture quality. Out of the box the brightness (Black Level) is way to high. I set mine at about 25-35%. After fine tuning the color and brightness the picture looks phenomenal. I couldn't imagine going back to standard TV. The TV is somewhat of a monster weighing in at 170 pounds so you will need to make sure that whatever you set in on can support the weight.

  4. We've been using this TV for the past 6months and love it. I'm a video engineer and have been looking for an HDTV set for the past year but hadnt' seen the right piece of hardware and price.

I like CRT display and this one delivers. It is the best monitor at an outstanding price. RCA is made by Thompson, a very well respected manufacturer of professional video cameras. I trust their engineering and this set delivers!

  5. I got theis from Dish after a protracted fight to get the RCA 40" RP machine repaired. ( They couldn't fix it after 4 months)
This machine freaks out when I touch it. I cleaned the screen,or have a power failure, the computer flips out. It flips through the menus, automatically reduces the volume to zero, and goes into the setup menu when powered on. This thing is possessed by the Devil!
My second, and last RCA/Thompson product. This is garbage, even if free. Don't even think of buying RCA/Thompson unless you like headaches.
