- I just bought this model in a 32 inch and had to share.
I am in love with this television. It looks great even when its not on. Designed to be seen from all angles, so its great in the center of a room, not just against a wall. The faux wood on the back/sides is really sweet looking. The picture is great. Sound is amazing...much more volume and dimension than i expected. I have a speaker set and subwoofer for my previous tv that i have now retired...the tvs speakers deliver much better sound. Controls are simple, overall theres a well designed simplicity that reminds you of products from Apple.
Hannspree is a brand i support...quality and design are uncompromised all around. They obviously take great pride in their product. Now that its in my living room, i can't imagine having bought anything else.

- Amazon sent us this brand new TV and it HAS NO SOUND. When we called Amazon and asked for them to replace it as soon as possible, they informed us that they do not take returns of large televisions - even when they send the customer a defective one. Now we will have to deal with repair, etc of a BRAND NEW TV. I'd suggest you buy a large purchase like this from a more reputable dealer that stands by its products. When you pay this much money for something, I think the seller should make sure you GET ONE THAT WORKS! Amazon has been a nightmare to deal with - if you want to be sure you are getting what you pay for, buy your large purchases elsewhere.
- I purchased my 37" Sharp Aquos on Aug.1, 2005. After only one day, the TV died. I called Sharp to ask for a replacement and they denied my request. They said that I would have to send it off to their "Sharp Authorized Repair Facility", which I did. That was over one month ago and I still do not have my TV back. Sharp has not provided any assistance at all in getting my TV back from their authorized repair facility, nor can they give me any details as to the status of the repair. Today I have hired an attorney to begin litigation against Sharp. Needless to say, I will never again purchase a Sharp product!
- Don't confuse this model with the LC-37D5U which does come with a Cable Card Slot. I have come across other sites which have listed the incorrect model number as well in their description. This is model LC-37GB5U which does not come with a Cable Card Slot.
Other difference I was told is that this also does not have the Over the Air TV Guide Features. With so many different 37" Sharp Models available and coming out, it's no wonder potential buyers can get confused or mislead. It's probably best to get the detailed product descriptions from the manufacturer's websites instead since sometimes reviewers don't realize they are reviewing the wrong model.
(...)
There is a price difference between both models so make sure you are entering the right model number
- ThisTV is now under 2 grand. The main difference between it and its 2900 dollar brother is that the latter has cable-card slot and a HD tuner.
If you read carefully, this model (37GB5U) DOES HAVE A HD TUNER BUILT IN !!! I am watching right now over the air HD broadcast! I think that with som many models someone got the info wrong. Buy this one (I did for about 1700).
Oh, the image is incredible. I bought a Sony up-coding DVD player (150 dollars) , used a CHEAP HDMI cable and love the image.
As others post, dont waste money on Monster cable
- Yes, this IS a great HDTV. But you SHOULD NOT pay more than $2000 and I will explain why, but first, what I love about it.
Good amount of inputs, outputs and it has a great "black level". HD on this TV is awesome, 1080i and 720p, you can hardly tell the difference, but when it comes to fast action scenes, 720p is way better. Make sure your DVD player supports at least 720p. Honestly, 480p and 480i DVD players are just not good enough for this TV. It also looks great and the audio is incredible.
Now, let me tell you, Amazon will ship it but YOU MUST OPEN THE BOX AND CHECK ALL INPUTS, OUTPUTS AND AUDIO BEFORE THE DELIVERY GUYS LEAVE, -DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THEM SAYING "we have to go", THEY MUST WAIT FOR YOU TO DOUBLE CHECK ON EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN. IF THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TV, SEND IT BACK, PERIOD-. My TV came in, I checked the inputs, I was ready with cables all set up and as soon as we opened the box I hooked everything up, checked that it all worked and they left after 5 mins of me playing around with it.
Having said that, let me get into how much this tv is worth. LCD PRICES ARE GOING WAY DOWN. YOU SHOULD NOT PAY MORE THAN $2000 FOR THIS TV, IT IS AN "OLD" MODEL ALTHOUGH STILL GREAT. Reserach online, go to your local stores, walk, I dont know, but DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $2000. I found 4 different places online and 1 in NYC that are selling this TV for $1999 before taxes, without shipping.
So, how did I pay $1999 for this TV via Amazon? I had been following the progress of prices online for 6 months of different LCD tvs and when I saw that a Sharp 37" was less than $2000 I KNEW I had to make a move ASAP so I did. Maybe just lucky, maybe paranoid, maybe both, you make your own judgement.
All in all, AWESOME VALUE IF LESS THAN $2000.

- My Setup: Satellite - Non High Def S-Video (Monster Cable - high end). Picture ranges from good to great. Channel dependant. Originally purchased a Toshiba SD P4000 (liked the attahced DVD player). While the Toshiba was considerably cheaper (and smaller 14") you get what you pay for. The Toshiba picture quality was unacceptable with my set up (Pixilation issues). As a computer monitor on my 4 year old Dell Laptop with ATI Mobility Graphic card 32mb display is crystal clear. This TV supports HI-DEF. It has a very small footprint and fits nicely on the corner of my desk. Sound is adequate for a small room. Overall while a little on the expensive side, I would highly recommend it. Saw this unit with a component feed in the store (DVD hookup) - was incredible - will be purchasing a dvd player for this guy soon and perhaps a hi-def sat receiver or better yet move the TV to where I already have one to test it out :-). Portable enough to bring on trips for gaming console.
Pros : Footprint / Portability / Display quality / Manual adjustments or can set most settings to 'auto'. 60,000 hour rating / enough inputs
Cons: PC Monitor only supports 640x480 or 1024x768 have to ensure PC is at this resolution. A little pricey
- I absolutely love this TV. I purchased it and immediately put it up on my wall. I use all of the component video in's and the PC in. I attached my DVD player with the component in using Monster THX 800 cables, some of the best cables on the market. The picture quality shows it. My other component in is attached to my X-Box, let me tell you, the TV makes the difference while playing the games. As of right now I do not have HDTV but I do plan on hooking it up. As for the PC input it is absolutely wonderful. When I got this TV I also got a wireless mouse/keyboard combo so I can use the TV from my bed and or my Lazy-Boy chair.
Pros: Size (fits anywhere on any wall), Picture quality, Video (in's / pc in), Easy useage.
Cons: No HDMI input, DVI in, No HDTV tuner, Replacement parts are expensive (Power adapter= $155)
Overall Rating of TV: 9.7 / 10
- The quality of the screen (I'm using it as a TV) is not as good as my old 1987 bedroom TV. Other reviewers were pleased, maybe it works better connected to a PC? I've gone through the setup a number of times. Can't get a clear picture.
It is compact and fits well on the counter top. Also, it was easy to setup.
For delivery an appointment had to be scheduled so I had to come home from work for a 4 hour period to have this item delivered. This is the first time any service didn't deliver to my door and this item isn't more than usual orders.
- Pros:
* good looks
* good quality fit and finish
* good picture both via cable TV and PC (1024x768), even with over-the-air reception
* surprisingly good sound quality
* good remote functions
Cons:
* OPC feature

- I experienced tiling or pixelating of my picture from the first day I plugged it in. I thought the problem was with my cable service, but after 5 visits by the cable company and one tv service call, I discovered that I just needed a firmware upgrade. Toshiba sent me a smart digital card with the firmware upgrade and they talked me through installing it. Problem solved.
The TV guide feature that had worked, stopped working after the firmware upgrade. I contacted Toshiba and they are investigating the problem. They have been investigating the problem for over a month now. I have found out from a service representative that they only have one person that deals with all of the TV guide problems. I am waiting for that person to call me with the solution.
In the mean time, the lamp blew. First, I noticed that the picture became dim. I increased the brightness but then I heard a loud crack. That was the bulb exploding. That happened after 3 months of light use. Toshiba sent me a new one and I installed it without difficulty. No TV for a week though while I waited for the new one to arrive.
When changing channels, there is a 3-4 second delay before the channel actually changes. This makes channel surfing VERY slow. I have been going to TV guide online to find my channel line up.
I am happy with the picture in High Definition, HOWEVER, I have never owned a TV that operates with such unreliability and therefore I would not recommend that you buy it.
- My boyfriend and I invested in one of these televisions as an alternative to going to the movie theater, and the picture is even better than at the theater! Colors are extremely vibrant and the image from our HD-upconverting DVD player is extremely sharp and lifelike. I haven't had any of the problems with bulb life and fan noise that other folks have; apparently it was a problem limited to the first run of production. I can't comment on the sound or cable TV viewing, since we use neither of these features, but for sheer picture quality at such a large size I have yet to see a comparable set.
- I love it. Cristal clear images with no problems. I have not noticed any fan noise until I am turning off the TV and it is cooling down.
- the main reason I bought this TV was the price. 1080 and 62" for about $2,200. As another reviewer stated, the bulb on my TV exploded about 1 month into use. The customer reps didn't give me much hassle about sending a new one out. I've been using the new bulb for about 6 months now with no problem.
I think the picture is great. I use a HD cable box and upconverting DVD player, both via HDMI cables. I have no problem with either yet.
2 reasons for not having 5 stars is the bulb popping, and the sound is subpar. I know it's expected to use a home reciever, but Toshiba still should have made the sound better then they did. You will have to buy a reciever with this TV. The lack of sound quality will annoy you after a month or two, like it did me.
- We have had the Toshiba 62HM195 for about two years now, and we are on our third bulb. To Toshiba's credit, the first bulb was replaced at no cost to us, since the bulb which came with the television was defective. The next bulb lasted about a year and a half. A replacement bulb ran around $200... I can not imagine they will go down in price from this point on.
When it is working, the picture looks great. We have used it with High-Def cable programming, video game systems, HD-DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs, and it performs well.

- I bought this projector to use with a new laptop that has Windows Vista as the operating system and cannot use it because there are no drivers for Vista!! This is very frustrating, and I say - Caveat Emptor! Buyer Beware! Viewsonic doesn't have any information on when they will have the drivers, so right now, I'm dead in the water.
