5 comments about SVA EV-1703 17-Inch LCD Flat Panel TV.
- I purchased this TV for my basement wall, to watch the Nascar races and so far so good, excellent TV. It is light and easy to handle, we popped out the bottom stoppers on the stand, removed the stand and with two screws in the wall it went up as easy as hanging a picture. The brightness did need adjusting but the picture comes in fine, maybe the picture depends on if you have cable or a dish. We have a dish and I have no problem at all, the remote is a little small and my husband kept hitting the wrong button to begin with but once you get used to it we both agreed- excellent choice *****
- Note: contradicting Amazon's title, this is NOT a TV. It is a monitor with a built-in TV tuner (lots of differences). Thus the low price.
I bought this item from J&R Music via Amazon.com. I returned it becuase the volume went from off to fairly loud with no "in-between" as I adjusted the volume up from zero. Note that I bought this to use as a TV, not a monitor.
Well, They sent me another and it had the exact same issue. Also, not being a TV, this has no Closed-caption feature or other "taken for granted" TV features you would get in an actual television. SVA and J&R Music both emphasized this, though I see Amazon still has not changed it (I notified Amazon.com in January, 2005).
- for the price, this lcd is not bad at all. as others have said, the picture tends to be a bit dark. but as i found for myself, you have to set the angle of the screen to allow for best viewing. then the picture is just fine. the remote is a bit small. and the volume controlles are not that easy to deal with. but i keep the mute set to "ON", and use the audio from my surround system anyway. all and all, i can't complaine. it's well worth the price paid.
- This LCD works great for every day computer functions as a monitor, but not as a TV. The problem is when you want to watch TV, you better be ready to handle the fuzzy picture. I've have it mounted on the wall in my computer room as a TV, but used a VCR to tune the cable channels, because it's TV tuner is terrible. The picture from the VCR's RCA plugs is ten times better than cable TV feed into the coax, but it is still fuzzy. I guess since it has such a high res native mode, the regular TV's low resolution can't be produced cleanly. For the price, you can't complain too much. I have been using it for 2 years, so I can't say I didn't get my money's worth.
It does have it's benefits, since I needed a second monitor to fix computers at home, it saves plenty of space hanging on the wall by two screws. No need to spend $50 on a VESA wall mount, when two drywall screws will do.
After two years, I've decided this Xmas I'm giving it to my mother as an upgrade to her 15" monitor on her computer at home, and I'm not even telling her it is a TV.
- I have this LCD/TV for slightly over 1 year (1 yr 4 mth) and has been using it as a TV. And right around the time waranty is about to expire, we start seeing what is supposed to be black color is replaced by green. Other colors are displaying properly. This problem would come and go: sometimes going to "Fine Tune" set it all the way down and bring it back up would fix the problem for 10 minutes before it comes back again.
Since it doesn't happen consistently, I made the mistake of not sending it back to the vendor. Now the warranty expired, and I am stuck with a "green" TV.
Watch out for color problem on this TV.

1 comments about InFocus LP425 LCD Projector.
- I have used a LP425 Infocus for 3 years. Great projector for the price. 7+ lbs. and has been through most of the airports in US, Canada and Mexico. But as it did need a quick turn around for service (1 week) this is not an option and the seller did not offer access to Infocus for a try for service. It seems that selling a new unit was the only option or a rental that would knock your socks off. I will not be buying Infocus in the future due to the service relationship to the customer.

5 comments about Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P 42-Inch High-Definition Plasma TV.
- I purchased this plasma TV through Amazon 4 months ago. The transaction and shipping went very smoothly. I also purchased the wall mounting bracket through Amazon (an excellent value for only $150).
The TV is great -- excellent picture and great audio for those of you who do not use their surround sound system every time the set is on. However, a problem recently surfaced a few days ago: When playing DVDs on the Component 1 channel, the picture on the screen is no longer centered -- it is offset by about 20% to the left side. After trying to remedy the problem myself, I contacted Panasonic Customer Service (be prepared to wait at least 20-30 minutes on the phone before being connected to a representative). After explaining the problem, the rep indicated it would warrant a service call by a repair person (as of this writing, the appointment is scheduled within the next few days) Luckily, the warranty covers in-house repairs for one year, but you do have to remove the TV from the wall mount yourself so it is accessible to the repair person.
I'll admit I'm a bit skeptical about the reliabilty of the TV now, especially since it developed this problem within 4 months. I'm not a fan of extended warranties (very expensive for this TV, considering an extra year of coverage through Panasonic costs around $400), but I may have to purchase one if any additional problems surface.
Hopefully, the problem with my Panasonic is a rarity. I expected better performance from this expensive purchase. Time will tell.
- I am thrilled with this TV. I have a small apartment and the screen size is just right. Even the non HD picture is fantastic which is important because there are not that many HD broadcasts yet. My only complaint is that the sound is somewhat muffled on HD broadcasts. I plan on purchasing a separate amp, etc. I have purchased a Panasonic HDMI dvd player and dvd's are fantastic. I also have the cable company's HD DVR service. Once I get the sound system it should be perfect.
- Plasma buyers beware. Before you plunk down the BIG bucks for a plasma TV, look for other ways to spend $ around your house or take a vacation instead. Plasma TVs are underwhelming when all is said and done. Wide-screen programming is virtually non-existent, and resolutions are awful when you try to watch converted analog signals or stretched screens, also very dissapointing to view the dead-zone sidebars when you can't fill the screen. I spent 4Gs on this Panasonic and two months later the entire image skewed off the frame, needed a technician to reprogramme the bios (on site), ughhh, after hours of wasted support calls to both Panasonic and to my cable TV provider (both apparently ignorant about the issue). Wide screen TVs look best in the store.
- I have had my set for about 2 weeks now, and I am blown away by it's contrast and resolution.
This is my second set...the first set arrived and when I plugged it in, all I received was a blinking power light---turns out it has something to do with the power supply---according to Panansonic.
I use Radio Shack 'rabbit' ears for my reception and receive all four of the major networks and OPB in HD---Monday Night Football in HD is amazing! With the 'rabbit ears' I also receive all four major networks in SD---but why go back?
DVD's seem to look better on the Plasma than on my last Mitsubishi tube set---even thugh there is only 480 lines of resolution. I haven't tried the HDMI input yet, but others seem to be impressed by it.
I am using component video for my DVD and run the sound through Yamaha Audio/Video controller, Adcom amplifiers, and Polk Audio speakers.
The only bummer is that when the speakers on the Plasma are turned off, you can't adjust the 'volume level' using the Plasma remote---you just get a message saying 'speakers off'---you should be able to turn off the speakers and then have the audio out from your Plasma become a 'line out' so to speak---so you can control the audio levels of your surround system, when watching TV by using the volume on the Plasma remote control---why should I have to 'select' receiver and then adjust the volume?---heck that was available on my first Mitsubishi set 16 years ago.
Anway, minor complaint....all in all a fantastic set, that I would recommend to anyone---and a great bargain too!
- Bought this TV about 3 months ago and love it. Super HD quality. No problems with setup. Image and sound are great, nice and crisp in both regards. Photos from SD camera cards are easily viewable. Overall very happy with the purchase.

5 comments about Sony Grand WEGA KF-50WE610 50-Inch HDTV-Ready LCD Rear Projection TV.
- Just had to add that I've had this TV since March 2004, and still on my first bulb. 44 months and counting!
- I bought this TV in Dec 2004, so I guess that was after Sony addressed the problems with the LCD (blue pixels) and lamp failures. The unit is still going strong after more than 3 years, and I have not had to replace the lamp yet. There have been no problems with the LCD panel.
The HD picture is superb. Even at 480p resolution from a progressive scan DVD player, which is lower than the minimum defined HD resolution of 720p, the picture is outstanding.
I wish there was more than one DVI input. This severely limits the number of HD sources that can be connected to the TV. This can be worked around, however, by using an external HDMI switch box, together with a HDMI-to-DVI cable to the TV.
I plan on keeping the TV for some time. The newer HDTVs with digital HD tuners and multiple HDMI inputs are enticing. But I have quite a bit of money invested in this Sony, and I don't have a need for a digital HD tuner on the TV, since I subscribe to satellite TV.
All in all, I am very pleased with this TV.
- We have had this TV about 2 and half years. We have had power supply issues within 6 months, replaced our first lamp within 12 months of purchase, replaced our second lamp at about the 2 year mark, and now we have the infamous blue blob creeping across the screen (and growing daily). I agree with other posts that Sony is not the company it was, and given they have done absolutely nothing to make these issues right with consumers says even more about their company. In other words, it's not just the TV -- it is the company. This TV will cost you twice the sticker price in repairs (even with the extended warrantees), and Sony will do nothing. This ranks as one of the most wastful purchases I have ever made!
This is my last Sony product, and for those who have written good reviews, GOOD LUCK -- I fear your time is limited with this lemon too.
- This TV has been great to me.. I bought mine in Feb 2004 and still running off the first bulb!! Im a huge technology junky though.. and even though this tv is working great.. I have to upgrade.. Those new Sony XBR's are sweet. Looks like this tv might get sold or made to be a second TV..
- I purchased this TV new in September of 2004. I have the blue blob problem that a lot of people seem to have. So I did some research online and found this site. Someone recommended this link, becuase Sony was doing the right thing and standing behind their product. [...]
I thought, hey my TV is a 2004 model and Sony has committed to fix this known issue for people until Decemeber 2008. Great, I'll just give them a call and get this taken care of. NOPE! I called and apparently even though I bought my TV 9 months into 2004, it was a 2003 model. Who knew? So sony said tough luck pal we were fixing the 2003 models but we stopped doing that in June of 2008. Great I missed it by 3 months. I tried to get a supervisor and no one would take the call. Luckily for me I purchased the extended warranty from Circuit City when I bought this TV. It expires 1 week from today. Circuit City is sending someone out tomorrow to fix it. I was a huge Sony guy. No more. How can this company expect someone to pay [...] for this TV and it only lasts 4 years? I hear the repair is anywhere between [...]. I could buy a new 50" LCD projection TV for that price today, and you can bet the farm that it would not be a Sony. Someone on this site had a great idea, he was going to mail his TV to the CEO of Sony. Once mine is fixed and 2 years from now when this blue blob returns, I guarantee there will be a 50" Sony arriving at corporate headquarters. I'll never buy Sony again.
