5 comments about Westinghouse 40" LCD TV/ DVD Combo- LTV-40W1HDC.
  1. Solid value for the price. I caught it for $800 at a local Sam's club. Within a day, they sold all four remaining units. It displays 1:1 pixel for pixel without overscan that many TVs do. Translated, that means on SD channels over the digital tuner you sometimes get a goofy white line at the top. On NBC HD, I get a solid yellow line on the left side that is annoying. Tech support says that's the way their TVs work and to just live with it. I confirmed by viewing the same behavior on two other Westinghouse models at Best Buy. I think they should issue an update to the firmware that allows addresses this issue. Color seems to switch a bit with the content but then that's where we are with the wide variety of programming and inputs. I am considering returning, but the price is about $700 less than anything in it's size range. Otherwise, seems like a good unit. If anyone comes up with a fix for the picture centering, let me know!!! Update, Westinghouse has entered a ticket for IAI tech support to come out and perform a firmware update. We'll see how that goes. Also, I am now using a HD satelite with HDMI connection to the set and the picture looks very good. I will likely keep the set now but sure hope to get the firmware (goofy menus) issue updated.

  2. I just purchased this TV myself and have been very pleased with it so far. The volume issue you talked about is the biggest problem that I have. If you forget to turn it down when going from a DVD back to TV, the volume will blow you away because there is so much difference between the two. But I recently signed up for digital cable (no HD yet in my area), and on the back of the cable box I noticed RCA-type output jacks in addition to the normal cable jack that I was using. I connected the RCA outputs to the TV and it seemed to slightly improve the picture, but most importantly the level of the audio signal is now about the same as the DVD player. I can now watch TV or a DVD at the same volume number. If you have a component (cable box, DVD player, etc.) that has other outputs, it would be worth a try to see if yours responds the same way mine did. Hope this helps!

  3. We bought this TV with built in DVD specifically to have "night at the movies" on our patio with a number of neighbors. The sound when viewing TV is great, but when a DVD is playing it reduces to where you can't hear well at 100 % setting. I purchased an external speaker set, and result is same.

  4. I bought a westinhouse LCD TV for over $1600 and the tuner went out after just 2 years!!! You will be greatly dissatisfied with a Westinghouse product, even if bought at a reasonable price. I called the Westinghouse customer service department and they basically said that they weren't going to fix the problem. This is the last time I buy a product from Westinghouse.

  5. Pros -

    Good Picture and cheap.
    PIP is great.

    Cons -

Sometimes turns off while switching inputs. I have a Harmony 880 and they do not play nice together.

It does not save sound settings. If you use an AUX stereo you have to change the settings to external everytime you power up the TV.

If you are on a big time budget this is a great buy. If not I would look to spend more money and get more features.

  1. I've had this TV for one week. The setup was a breeze. It was too heavy for me to hang alone, but my wife and I lifted it onto the mount with little trouble. The picture in HD is super. Standard def looks grainy, but it is not too distracting. The antiglare treatment works well. The sound is good, but too small for a TV this grand. I hooked it up to my receiver w/ bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer. Ahhh, much better now. I was nervous about the buzzing complaint, so I purchased a Monster Power Clean power strip (used for under $50) on Amazon. This little accessory is nice, and I can hear the difference in my soundsystem, which I also connected to it. I found a slight scratch in the glossy cabinet after two days in my living room. I don't think that it happened during setup. My guess is that it happened before it was placed into the box. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied considering that I paid $899 for this TV. It has lots of cool extras (cable card slot, USB port, media card slots, etc.) that make it a more versatile choice than any other in it's class.

  2. I got a great deal on this TV, and do think it was worth it. I love the size, and the HD picture is fantastic. I did not have any trouble with buzzing, and I just have the TV plugged into a regular power strip. The standard channels are quite a bit grainy. But I have no real comparison for this. I assume most LCD and Plasma sets have this issue? Anyway, the set is spectacular looking, and versatile. Great features, and great HD picture. If that is what you are looking for, it is worth it.

  3. I picked this set up online for $800. I bought a Panamax power conditioner to prevent some of the things I heard about buzzing. Picked up the conditioner for 20 bucks online and had it read for the tv. Plugged the tv in and it worked perfectly!

HD looks great and I hear absolutely nothing at all. Connected this to my XBOX360, digital camera, and media pc. Have had a flawless performance with all 3 thus far!

Very happy with this set and would definitely recommend it to others.

  4. Well I brought this plasma about a month ago, I'd definately give it five star rating!!! I didn't get it for a steal of a deall @ the $800.00 bucks like someone else did anyway, At first didn't make any buzzing noise with the regular cable box so opted to get the hd cable box & thats the first thing I notice buzzing just like other complained about, & instead of calling the store I called Samsung directly ran a test & still got buzzing,So samsung wanted to set me up with in house service, I then called the store that I puchased it & spoke to the man that sold it to me & he said if it wasn't making the buzzing with the regular box itwasn't the tv, he explained to the wires that the cable co. gives you were poor quality & couldv'e been creating the buzzing so he suggested in buying the HDMI cable a good one monster cable preferably, so I went & bought one 4ft runs about $100.00 & 8ft is about $119.00, Iwent with the 8 footer & it ran me $128.00& change, Any hooked up & "BINGO" that what it was, once I turned it on the pictures clarity & sound was "EXCEPTIONAL" If I can give anyone advice go the better cables especialy when dealing such a nice plasma, "BEING CHEAP CAN ONLY GIVE YOU CHEAP RESULTS"

  5. great plamsa the price is right and the game mode is sweet! i would recomend this to everyone

5 comments about Audiovox 8" Kitchen LCD TV - White (PLV16081).
  1. We bought this little TV at Target to place on a desk. We use an antenna to receive free off-air signals in the Atlanta GA area. Initial setup and channel scan was easy. It picked up all the analog and digital TV signals that our larger TVs could receive. Picture quality is not as good as our larger TVs but it's only 8 inches and I didn't expect much. All seemed well until I noticed a low chirping noise in the sound. Kind of like crickets. This noise is low but annoying an stays at the same level regardless of the volume setting. It's there even when the TV is muted. After a few minutes the noise really got on our nerves.

We returned the TV to Target and walked over the the TV display where they had a demo version. I set the channel to 14-1 (a digital demo channel in Target) then turned down the volume. The demo TV also had chirping noises. So, bottom line, it's got a design or manufacturing defect that causes annoying noises in the audio that is unacceptable to us. If not for that issue I'd have given it 3 stars.

  2. We were so pleased with this little TV that we bought a second one. We bought the first TV for the kitchen. We bought the second identical model for a shelf in front of our treadmill. We have not experienced the "chirping" problem that two other reviewers described with either of our TVs. The headphone feature when using it with the treadmill is very nice. We also like the sleek, contemporary style.
We give this TV a 5 star rating. It met our expectations for a TV this size and for the price.

  3. Just brought this TV home from Target. It definitely has the chirp in the digital channels, and will be going back to the store.

I'm editing this review to add a solution for anyone stuck with a chirping TV. If you hook external speakers up to the TV, then turn the volume of the TV up to about 20, then turn your speakers down to the desired level, you won't hear the chirp anymore. It's a possible solution if you use this at a desk. I still will probably return it though, because you shouldn't have to use external speakers to avoid the chirp.

  4. I bought this in the states at Target last summer (august 2007). I hooked it up to an external antenna and it works very well. (I live in Toronto and can pick up Toronto and Buffalo stations). In fact, my 40 inch Samsung HDTV doesn't pull in as many channels as this little baby while using the same antenna. I just use it on the back deck. I haven't experienced the chirping problem mentioned by others (and I hope I don't).

  5. I'm not a techie, but the audio and video quality is acceptable only if I hook it up my satellite/cable box and use it essentially like a monitor (just like the display model I saw at Target that used cable input). However, totally unsatisfactory when I tried to use it as a stand-alone tv with an external antenna (even a high quality "amplified" antenna), especially the "chirping" noise noted by another reviewer. Significantly worse audio and video than my old tv with rabbit ears in the exact same location in my house, which I was trying to replace. I like it, but I guess I'll need to buy some coaxial cable, a splitter, and get out my drill.

  1. I am now on my third order of this model, the first two were delivered with shattered screens, now on the third delivery the TV body is damaged. I can understand that sometimes a product comes from the manufacturer damaged - but three times in a row. Not only that it has been more than a month of trying to get this TV and Amazon can't or want offer any discounts for the trouble I have been through.
