5 comments about Sony KV-32FS320 32-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA Flat-Screen TV.
  1. This set is aesthetically elegant and pleasing to the eye and it definitely will look great in anyone's living room and/or home theater. The tv comes with many inputs and it is very flexible in terms of matching any equipment you might have. The sound is also very clear and I find that the 'simulated' setting enhances the voice's loudness and clarity at the expense of musical dynamics which is not a bad thing when you watch a movie or anything with a lot of dialogue, otherwise the 'wow' setting will do. But what really sets apart this set from the rest of them is the picture quality, clarity, depth, detail, contrast and overall color fidelity (notice that there is no color bleeding either), if properly adjusted, is simply amazing. I am shocked at the amount of people that watch tv using the picture factory setting, with this set (as with any other) the picture settings must be adjusted to match a more lifelike quality, fortunately this set make this process very quick and simple and the menus are well organized and very intuitive to use. Only small nicks I have are that the dark scenes have a tendency to lose some black detail (like a collar and/or pocket on a black suit) and at times the people's faces might have a very slight tendency toward the orange/purple/reddish spectrum (very minor however) and I was unable to improve to a 100% satisfaction factor (I like to emphasize that these minor problem I just described are really really small and are hard to notice unless you scrutinize the image). One more thing, knowing the poor service that SONY provides to their customers, I strongly recommend buying an extended warranty if available (I bought a 5 years one), you'll be glad you did if any problem arises. Overall I am fully satisfied with this set and I don't feel the need to complicate my life with an HDTV set, which (to my opinion) is an overrated technology which benefit mostly the companies behind it rather than the consumer. By the way, One of the video features is an edge enhancer that causes a harsh artificial edge to show on elements in the picture and makes small writing hard to read, I recommend to keep this feature turned off. Overall: EXCELLENT.

  2. I came home tonight to a TV that no longer works. Purchased 1/17/05 and no workie 6/8/05 - RIPOFF!!!! I see that someone else had the same issue - mine shows the "Standby Timer" light flashes 5x and then pauses and then 5x and pauses, etc. Sony CS says needs repair. 5 MONTHS! COME ON! $600 down the tubes - labor is on me... I have a TV upstairs that I have had for 20+ years - not a SONY. I have been a loyal SONY customer for 15 years.... gotta wonder. Take a hard look at this TV.

  3. We wanted to replace our 27" SDTV with something a bit bigger so we initially investigated HDTVs. After getting some sticker shock we decided to try to find a good SDTV. The 32" WEGA fit the bill perfectly.
The set is quite heavy but the picture is great and the set has a pretty good number and combination of video inputs. By far the coolest feature is the 16:9 enhanced mode. If you have a DVD player that you can set to force widescreen playback mode you will get a vertically stretched picture. You can then set the WEGA to squash the resulting picture into the middle part of the screen. The stretched out image now returns to normal and the result is a noticeable improvement in the quality of widescreen DVD movies. In this mode almost all 480 vertical scan lines are being used to display the movie when you would normally waste about 100 scanlines displaying black bars.

With great standard def picture quality and enhanced DVD viewing this set is a great option for those of us still living in a pre-HDTV world.

  4. Overall, for daily TV viewing, I like this TV. Picture is okay, sound is fine. However, I do have a major problem with it - TEXT! I don't mean the text like scrolling at the bottom of the screen on News Channels or during commercials, but the text that makes up the score of the game you're watching and text overlays like that. For some reason, it really looks bad. When you turn on Sony's "enhancement" for text, it looks worse, IMO. Another time I notice this is during video games (PS2 specifically).

Would I buy this model again? Probably not. I like it for normal viewing, but this TV was bought to be a gameroom TV (sports and console games, mainly) so the text crap is annoying.

  5. It weighs 160 pounds, so you'll need 2+ strong people to unpack it and lift it into place (thus saving the $50-75 delivery fee). At this weight, you'll not be returning this to the store for service; plan accordingly. There is one good concealed handhold molded into each side for lifting. The box itself has two pairs of good handholds. The base of the TV is about 4" narrower than the unit itself, so you may not need a new base or swivel table.

Open the box at the store; there are too many reports of concealed damage and vandalism lately.

The remote is much simpler than my previous Sonys, and seems to include everything that's necessary.

Be aware that there are no Audio Out jacks, so you can't feed it into your stereo. You may want to connect your cables before you install the unit, as the jacks are cleverly placed waaaaay in the back so you can only reach them with difficulty.

The Trinitron picture is better than that of other manufacturers, in most people's opinion. Although it will cost more than the others, the image is why you will choose and enjoy this model. This will be our fourth Sony; we've owned them for many decades with good satisfaction.

If you are considering so-called HDTV as an alternative, be aware that 99% of what is coming in your house is old Standard TV (SDTV), just like this Sony. Your old DVD players (and DVDs) are NOT HDTV. Your old cable box is NOT HDTV. If you want HDTV, you can buy a few premium HDTV channels from your cable company, but you'll need to pay extra, and also need a new HDTV cable box--and the other 100 channels will remain SDTV.

You can actually use this Sony to tune HDTV off the air, but you will need a separate antenna, and then you are likely to get newsmen in HDTV, and commercials and old films in, you guessed it, SDTV.

If you feel that you simply must get a wide-screen unit instead of this one, consider that it will stretch the SDTV signal to fit, causing circles to look like ovals, and faces to look like chipmunks. Alternatively, you can keep the original shape by showing black bars on both sides, but then you will need a 40" unit to show as much area as this 32" Sony has. Either way, you will pay several times as much.

I hope this triva is helpful. Enjoy your viewing!

  1. I bought this Sony 46 inch widescreen Projection TV, KP-46WT510 less than 2 years ago, as of this writing, at Circuit City. I've been pleased with the functionality - 4 options for widescreen / fullscreen mode, plenty of inputs for DVD, VCR, Laser, Satellite, etc. - and the picture quality. However, the convergence board went out last week, in less than two years. This means the picture is warped at the edges and the colors spread out into a double image, making it useless for movies on DVD, though you can still watch and hear the sound. Our old TV lasted about 10 years before that happened. What's more, I paid $400 for the 4-year full service plan. I called the number of the service plan and they gave me the usual run-around and finally someone said they would send servicemen within 3 business days. Three business days later - 5 actual days later - the serviceman called and it turned out he's in a different state and can't come here. I called the service number again and was told they'd reschedule. After three weeks the TV that wore out in less than two years still hadn't been serviced. Finally I was told no repair shop in Colorado can fix Sony's, and was offered and exchange, but equivalent size TVs are now more expensive and I had to pay the difference. So I decided to upgrade to a plasma at considerable extra cost, and got a Zenith Z50PX2D - I'll review that after using it a few weeks.

  2. I bought this Sony KP-46WT510 in March 2004. I definitely enjoy this TV. It's easy to use, great image quality, good price for a sony. Everyone calls my living room "the movie theather.

  1. Just wanted to let everyone that the order worked as expected. Got the TV in the box today (1 day before expected delivery). I was apprehensive about ordering through the internet, but so far things are good. I am hoping that this will continue, and wont have to face any problems. Picture quality is good, TV looks sleek and fabulous. Will provide more details in the next couple of months.

  2. As with other customers, I was a little hesitant to purchase a big screen TV through the internet. I did a lot of research and read countless reviews. I chose the HPS5073 over the HPS5053 due to some minor upgrades. The 5053 is the older model and I wanted to reduce the chance of the loud humming problems associated with the older models. The 5073 also offers a few minor options the 5053 doesn't have so make sure you compare the two very closely. The 5073 has the cable card slot, USB port, DVI port, 2 RF connections, headphone jack and more built in speakers. I needed the extra connections for my surround sound, DVD recorder and VCR. All were easy to connect and switching from one to the other is very easy through the remote. The only complaint I have is the 4.3 screen side bars are gray instead of black and hopefully Samsung techs will change that in the future. This is such a trivial issue that it wouldn't have changed my decision but felt a review should reflect the good and the bad. The picture is spectacular, impressive and the TV looks fantastic in my family room. It is very modern looking and has all of the options you will ever need. Vanns delivery was actually too fast and I had to reschedule to a later date. They did so with just a phone call and the delivery driver called me 30 minutes in advance to make sure I was home and ready to accept delivery. I had a friend help me hook up the TV and in 15 minutes we were all done. NO loud humming or fan noise and not a lot of heat emission like I read in other reviews. This TV is a great buy and I couldn't be happier. Vanns is one of the few online electronics stores that have a return policy without a lot of fine print. Believe me I did my research and Vanns is by far one of the better "brick and mortor" retailers. They have a 15 day return policy and most retailers require you to seek repairs through the manufacture. I saved a bundle buying through Amazon and will buy from them again.

  3. (My review is 3 1/2 stars) Bought this set about 3 weeks ago thru vanns. was very hesitant about such a big online purchase, but vann's delivered 100%. great service. got the unit in about a week shipped yellow freight- driver even helped bring it in and unpack to inspect it despite only curbside delivery.
After 3 weeks here it is: nice looking set. pretty good remote. despite the fact that it has 6 speakers the sound is only good and nothing special- although it will get really loud if you crank it up. the high def channels and dvd's look excellent, but i have to say that the standard def channel quality is generally disappointing. I guess the set just amplifies the crummy std def signal making it worse(using fios digital tv). The other negative is the brightness. sometimes the picture seems too dark no matter what you do. I Read all the reviews and advice columns that say to turn off all the DNIE and image enhancements - but no way, they definitely work. Oh yeah, almost forgot the buzzing. the set DOES buzz a little. it ain't horrible, but it's there, sometimes louder than others. if you turn up the volume to about 12 or so it's really not noticable, but still there. It's liveable.
After writing this i'm unsure if I'd do it again, plunking down two grand for a set. don't get me wrong it's a pretty good set, but was expecting a little more. I dont know?

  4. This is a very nice TV. I am glad I went ahead and purchased the one with the card readers on the side. Its nice to look at your pictures on the big screen

  5. I bought this from Abes of Maine and it arrived in great condition. Eveything works great. Picture is great. Card reader and Mp3 player through USB port all work well. The big problem is this - The TV makes tons of horible buzzing noises. Thsi is due to a problem with th epower supply. It's a switcher and makes tons of noise. If you use this in a small room, it will drive you insane. It's a known problem and anyone who buys this TV should make sure they have the latest Power supply installed in the unit. I am in process right now to have mine replaced under warranty. Samsung knows this is a problem and they should fix it without hassle. Other than that, it's a great TV for the money. I paid 1750.00 for it in April. Prices continue to drop and quality gets better each day. Wait until you need the tv to buy it. the longer you wait, the more you get for your money.

  1. Amazon sent us this brand new TV and it HAS NO SOUND. When we called Amazon and asked for them to replace it as soon as possible, they informed us that they do not take returns of large televisions - even when they send the customer a defective one. Now we will have to deal with repair, etc of a BRAND NEW TV. I'd suggest you buy a large purchase like this from a more reputable dealer that stands by its products. When you pay this much money for something, I think the seller should make sure you GET ONE THAT WORKS! Amazon has been a nightmare to deal with - if you want to be sure you are getting what you pay for, buy your large purchases elsewhere.

  2. I purchased my 37" Sharp Aquos on Aug.1, 2005. After only one day, the TV died. I called Sharp to ask for a replacement and they denied my request. They said that I would have to send it off to their "Sharp Authorized Repair Facility", which I did. That was over one month ago and I still do not have my TV back. Sharp has not provided any assistance at all in getting my TV back from their authorized repair facility, nor can they give me any details as to the status of the repair. Today I have hired an attorney to begin litigation against Sharp. Needless to say, I will never again purchase a Sharp product!

  3. Don't confuse this model with the LC-37D5U which does come with a Cable Card Slot. I have come across other sites which have listed the incorrect model number as well in their description. This is model LC-37GB5U which does not come with a Cable Card Slot.

Other difference I was told is that this also does not have the Over the Air TV Guide Features. With so many different 37" Sharp Models available and coming out, it's no wonder potential buyers can get confused or mislead. It's probably best to get the detailed product descriptions from the manufacturer's websites instead since sometimes reviewers don't realize they are reviewing the wrong model.

    (...)

There is a price difference between both models so make sure you are entering the right model number

  4. ThisTV is now under 2 grand. The main difference between it and its 2900 dollar brother is that the latter has cable-card slot and a HD tuner.

If you read carefully, this model (37GB5U) DOES HAVE A HD TUNER BUILT IN !!! I am watching right now over the air HD broadcast! I think that with som many models someone got the info wrong. Buy this one (I did for about 1700).

Oh, the image is incredible. I bought a Sony up-coding DVD player (150 dollars) , used a CHEAP HDMI cable and love the image.

As others post, dont waste money on Monster cable

  5. Yes, this IS a great HDTV. But you SHOULD NOT pay more than $2000 and I will explain why, but first, what I love about it.
Good amount of inputs, outputs and it has a great "black level". HD on this TV is awesome, 1080i and 720p, you can hardly tell the difference, but when it comes to fast action scenes, 720p is way better. Make sure your DVD player supports at least 720p. Honestly, 480p and 480i DVD players are just not good enough for this TV. It also looks great and the audio is incredible.
Now, let me tell you, Amazon will ship it but YOU MUST OPEN THE BOX AND CHECK ALL INPUTS, OUTPUTS AND AUDIO BEFORE THE DELIVERY GUYS LEAVE, -DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THEM SAYING "we have to go", THEY MUST WAIT FOR YOU TO DOUBLE CHECK ON EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN. IF THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TV, SEND IT BACK, PERIOD-. My TV came in, I checked the inputs, I was ready with cables all set up and as soon as we opened the box I hooked everything up, checked that it all worked and they left after 5 mins of me playing around with it.
Having said that, let me get into how much this tv is worth. LCD PRICES ARE GOING WAY DOWN. YOU SHOULD NOT PAY MORE THAN $2000 FOR THIS TV, IT IS AN "OLD" MODEL ALTHOUGH STILL GREAT. Reserach online, go to your local stores, walk, I dont know, but DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $2000. I found 4 different places online and 1 in NYC that are selling this TV for $1999 before taxes, without shipping.
So, how did I pay $1999 for this TV via Amazon? I had been following the progress of prices online for 6 months of different LCD tvs and when I saw that a Sharp 37" was less than $2000 I KNEW I had to make a move ASAP so I did. Maybe just lucky, maybe paranoid, maybe both, you make your own judgement.
All in all, AWESOME VALUE IF LESS THAN $2000.

  1. I have this TV and I am very happy with it. It has a very nice, bright, crisp picture. It has TRUE 1080 - be careful when looking at sets. 1366 X 728 pixels is 720P HD. 1920 x 1080 is full 1080i/p HD. Often times sellers give the pixels and then say the TV takes 1080i input - this does not mean it can display all those pixels though! Check the pixels if you want 1080, it should have 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has lots of inputs including 2 HDMI (3 would be nicer but many TVs just come with 1).

Now, this is not the most full-featured model and you may be able to find more features for your money. It does not have picture-in-picture (bummer). The menus are navigable, but sparse and somewhat awkward (but not too bad). The automatic format detection is a bit buggy - it may try to automatically change the aspect ratio during the middle of shows and movies and that can be annoying. You just need to manually set the TV to Widescreen in this case.

Overall, I am very happy with the set.

  2. When I first got this tv I was amazed at how I got such a good deal. The picture quality is excellent and the price was great. After about 3 months it started having problems. It started taking longer and longer for the tv to turn on. Now it takes about 10 to 15 min to turn on. Also after 6 months it is starting to have trouble with the ATSC/Qam tuner. HD channels are starting to go blank. I wish I could return it but now I am stuck with it.
    Thanks Magnavox.

  3. We had the TV about 3 months before the pic just screwed up...you couldn't watch it at all. Trying to get it fixed was the worst! You can't just take it back; they find a certified TV repair person in your city (which took a month), the repair people called and made an appt for 1 1/2 weeks out. They finally come find the problem, order the part (took 2 weeks) , make another appt(one week later) and come replace the bad part. Worked fine for another 2 months but has started the whole process all over again. When it works, great picture. All in all, we lost about 2 months of viewing waiting on for the run-around to come full circle!

  4. It took a software update to make this tv perform correctly. previously, the only time i was happy with the picture quality was for a fraction of a second when switching between the menu and normal viewing. for some reason, just exactly then, the picture became GREAT.
fiddling with brightness and tint and contrast, etc, only generates slight changes in screen appearance.
we touched the screen with bare fingers when we installed it, and seem to be cursed with an eternal unerasable smudge.
seriously: no proctective, cleanable barrier between the lcd and the world?
we have yet to get any hdtv equipment. no telling how things might improve

  5. i've had this tv for almost a year now. it looks great with my verizon fios hd service. i havent had any problems with it, so i dont what others are talking about. good bang for the buck
