5 comments about Samsung TXM2796HF 27" DynaFlat HDTV.
- I bought the Samsung TXM2796HF about 4 months ago and recently I am getting a loud humming sound from the speakers. The humming sound is very annoying. The picture quality is good but the sound is terrible.
- I am a broadcast engineer for a FOX affiliate in Georgia, so I have seen quite a few monitors in my day. This set, is not for the large room,..but for quality of picture in normal broadcast, and definitely for High-Definition, it has few peers for quality. Also, I have one in our lobby, as a show piece, with our affiliates sound and picture, 24 hours a day, seven days a week since January 13, 2002, without so much as a hiccup, and zero upkeep. I have broadcast monitors in master control, that I wish were that good. (I also bought another one for my home in May 2003.) Its that good.
- I purchased mine from Sears, not Amazon. It has an overscan problem. Calls to Samsung technical service finds that they provide no help in adjustments except to their repair persons.
Suppoedly because one might mess up the settings (more I guess).
One authhorized repair person had not experienced this before and does not have a store. I assume he would drive for attempted adjustment, but considering the distance (approximately 20 miles), I wonder about cost. Warranty has expired. Maybe should buy another brand?? Son has had two bad experiences with Samsung DVD players.
- Set was dead within less than three years.
Before it died it developed an incredibly high pitched squeal from the speakers. The frequency of the noise changed throughout the life of the set. At first it was so bad my dogs couldn't be in the room with the set on. Eventually the noise got to the point that our human ears adjusted to hearing it.
The day the set died I was watching a movie on HBO. The set normally makes a chime whenever you turn it on/off. The sound suddenly cut out and the set immediately made the chime it makes when you turn the set off only it was very slow. The screen went black and the set was dead. I am puzzled though that the inside parts are still receiving electricity. Should you plug the set into an outlet something inside is continually ticking.
Regardless this incredibly expensive Samsung POS died within two years of being manufactured and purchased. However my 19" CRT from God knows where manufactured in 1987 continues to run flawlessly to this day. Samsung can go die in a fire I won't waste my money on them again. I suggest you do the same.
- I bought this sent in 2004 and now (2007) it is dying. The TV more and more frequently shuts off while watching and takes 1/2 hour to regain the ability to use. What a piece of junk! Don't waste your money like I did. You'd be better to simply throw your $$ directly into the garbage than go through the haste of trying to revive this junk.

5 comments about Panasonic CT-34WX15 34" TheaterWide HDTV-Ready Flat Screen TV.
- I ordered an S 97 as well as a CT34WX15, 34 inch CRT monitor. The S97 arrived first. It is very compact and all my CD's sounded better then on my old one. The drawer is nice, it virtually snaps out when you press the button and, as the drawer is made of translucent material, the whole thing lights up with the little blue light when open. All in all, a very nice unit.
When the TV arrived, the first thing I noticed was that the box was open. Now this is a one hundred eighty pound TV in the box. The box itself could hold a small refrigerator. I examined the contents and noticed that the shipping material looked as though it had been rearranged from when it was originally packed. I got the TV set up, and turned it on. Well there was a big green blemish on the screen and some other blemishes on the edges, nothing I did could make it go away so I called Panasonic. Now I ordered it directly from Panasonic and while it did take me a few tries to get through their answering system, which by the way is the best voice recognition system I have been exposed to, it actually seemed to get what I was saying, I did finally get a human being. The big surprise was that, in about five minutes, I had been directed to the right people, and the new set was on its way. After reading some of the reviews with customer service nightmares, especially concerning Sony, I was defensive at first. Now all I can say is that Panasonic service concerning this replacement was first rate. They paid shipping for the whole thing and really were gracious and seemed to be interested in taking care of the problem. The new set is here and it works great. It was un opened and the packaging was factory fresh.
- I was originally considering the Sony 30" widescreen CRT and then decided that I needed (read: wanted) a bigger picture which opened my options to both the Sony and Panasonic 34."
Upon comparing the 2 sets side-by-side in the store, both the Sony and Panasonic seemed to have the same picture quality with HD and digital signals. It could be said maybe just MAYBE that the Sony had a tiny bit crispy picture in HD but after standing there a few more minutes, I could say that the Panasonics is just as good.
However, upon switching to a channel that was analog cable, it became clear that the Panasonic was definitely the winner. The Sony's picture was VERY grainy in comparision to the Panasonic's. This, in my mind, made the Panasonic the winner with overall picture quality.
The main short-coming I observed first-hand with the Panasonic was that its sound level or quality was not that of the Sony's. The volume the Sony was capable of putting out was way above that of the Panasonic's when comparing them inthe store. However, to me, overall picture quality was the main concern since I run the sound through my stereo receiver when I watch DVDs, so this wasn't going to be a major issue anyway.
After I got home and set the Panasonic up, the volume turned outto be more than adequate for the area I set it up in.
The pricing for the Panasonic is a little less than the Sony. The 5 year extended service plan was also less than the Sony. When I asked why this was, I was told that the parts prices for the Sonys were considerably more. The sales price and the extended service pricing made the Panasonic a clear choice.
The 30" Sony widescreen CRT received top billings in Consumer Reports. However, I've never been a huge fan of Sony, so I was happy I was able to take home a Panasonic.
CRTs still provide the best long-term service. I think I will be happy with this purchase for many years to come. So far the set operates perfectly and gives a great picture.
- This is my first HDTV. I also bought the Sony DVP-NS70 1080i DVD Player with HDMI out and an HDMI cable to connect the two. Plus an Optical Audio cable to connect the DVD player to my receiver.
I can't be happier with the setup. DVDs look great. The picture is great. I'm not a videophile. I wanted a nice setup without spending a fortune and that's just what I got.
Why am I sore? 160 Lbs, three flights of stairs. My wife and I nearly killed ourselves getting the box up. It was a dangerous and clumsy procedure. Luckily, the only real damage is the soreness we both feel two days later.
Really, please account for how you're going to get it from outside to the living room. This would be a good time to buy pizza for your friends, haul it in and have a little party.
-
After reading the reviews - thank you - I opted for the Panasonic CT-34WX15 instead of models offered by Sony and Samsung. The set is great and delivers as promised. But, if I had it to do over, I would not purchase this TV because Panasonic has chosen to exclude the `little conveniences' that I have come to appreciate, i.e.,
· Channel delete options (I can choose `All', which is too many - or - I can choose `Fav' which gives me 16, which is too few). There is no option to delete channels.
· Channel indicator (I would like to have the option of having the channel number remain illuminated, burn in or not, on the tube!)
· Previous channel (the option is for only 2; I would like to have 4)
· Smart Sound (automatic sound leveling between channels is not an option)
Picky?; maybe - but that's my choice! Possible? - definitely because ALL of these features are found in my `old' 27" Magnavox sets. Panasonic's `fault'? - no, it's actually my fault for not checking much deeper. Bottom Line = if you too like those `little things', then avoid the Panasonic CT-34WX15.
- First off, the problem with some reviews on Amazon.com are like Osbornes below & the reason I rely on Circuit City Reviews more (they are more objective & not in the Twinky Zone like this Osborne fellow- he makes Ozzy seem more intelligent). Anyway, I needed a second HDTV set for my bedroom as the 30" one I had was simply too small though it had a good picture. I should preface that I have a 48" Mitsubishi Rear Projector HDTV in my living room which I love & bought for $1600 in 2004 which I think you can get now for $1300. Anyway, this 34" HDTV set is perfect for a bedroom set as I watch it from about 10' away from my bed & it sits on top of my dresser. Cosmetically it looks beautiful and the picture & size of the picture is superb. Even Non-HD Shows look great on this set which wasn't the case of my 30" set. DVDs look great as well whther in widescreen or 4:3 (which I would recommend for old TV Shows). One thing I like about it, is that it has 3 factory preset picture options. I prefer Vivid. The beauty of this is even if you try to fine tune the colors & you don't like the results, you can press one of the 3 preset buttons & get back to the same picture setting. When I buy an HDTV my only concern is picture not sound & that should be yours too, because anyone who owns an HDTV and doesn't listen to their audio via a receiver with 5.1 sound, doesn't deserve to buy an HDTV. Therefore sound quality is irrelevant for my purposes. One of the most ridiculous criticisms I've seen by some nincompoops are their concerns over the weight of this set which makes no sense and shouldn't be a factor. I had my set delivered & installed (for free) & I'm sure 95% of you will as well, so why should weight be a concern if your getting someone else to carry this into your place and putting it where you want it. You can't beat the price. I got mine for $1100 including free shipping & installation. For the money you can't beat this set. I also wouldn't recommend you buy any HDTV that is 30" or below and possibly even 32" or below (I haven't used 32" sets) as the picture is too small. With a 34" Widescreen TV the picture is the perfect size for a bedroom set. If you want to spend $2500 to $3,000 on a brand name HD LCD thats 34" or better, by all means go ahead, but if you are on a budget, this TV is perfect for the price.

5 comments about Philips 42PFP5332D 42-Inch Plasma HDTV.
- After a whole year of research I decided to go with the 42 Phillips because of price ($990),quality and brand. Bought it in time for my birthday, came right on time (GO EAGLE DELIVERY). Very heavy, you will need two people to move it. Bought a flat mount which I had already set up and waiting for the TV to arrive.
Looks:- Well I thought it had the glossy black piano shine around the egdes however it didnt (ok no big deal). Attached my Component cables to the HD cable box and the instruction were clear as day.
Picture quality:- Ive only had this for a day, and Im having trouble finding the right picture setting. Phillips did well in having you choose from some stand still pictures however I still didnt like the outcome. IM still working on the perfect setting.
Audio:- Decent. I dont have surround sound and I dont think I will need it. Im pretty happy with the sound so far.
I have not connected it to a DVD, computer or anything else so I cant tell just yet. As I progress I will update my review but so far so good Phillips
- Bought this one because I already had a 32" Philips LCD which was perfect. In a side by side comparison the 42" plasma was terrible. This was really obvious when looking at objects with straight lines. The 42" plasma showed them as unstable - wavy lines - very hard to watch this after seeing what the picture should be on the 32" LCD.
I sent it back. Unfortunately - there is a hefty restocking fee - so it cost me to send it back but I couldn't live with this set.
- I bought this TV on Amazon for $996 with free shipping at the end of November 2007. It arrived in about 8-10 days by freight in perfect shape. Assembly was easy. The menu system is simple. The picture is great. The sound is wonderful. You're not going to find a better 42" plasma TV for under $1,000.
The only drawback is a TV this big with an excellent picture like this makes standard TV look fairly crappy. However, the built in tuner recognize 10 HD channels as soon as I hooked up my roof antenna. They look great. I have DirecTV so now am considering I need to upgrade to HD service to get the higher picture quality. DVD's look wonderful on this TV. I heartily recommend this, if you haven't figured it out already.
- I bought this TV in Brandsmart USA 3 months ago for $799. I own an LG and a Samsung (both HDTV) and the picture of this TV it's very superior to the other two (really natural image). The menus are very easy to understand, and the sound is great. The quality of this TV is equal or even better to other TV's that cost you hundreds more. I really, really recommend this TV.
- Save yourself a headache and avoid this product and all Philips Plasma's. If you take your chances and buy a Philips plasma, you might as well buy the extended service contract as you will likely need it.
I purchased the Philips 42in Plasma TV a little over a year ago and it started showing a thin red line vertically in the middle of the screen at about month 11. It was still under warranty and called customer service.
The repair shop picked it up a few days later. This was in the beginning of December. It is now March and they have replaced several parts without fixing it.
Here is the current workflow.
1. Repair shop orders a part from Philips.
2. Philips reviews the order to decide whether or not to give permission to ship the part since it is under Warranty.
3. Philips reviews the order and eventually gives permission to send the part. (this seems to take 3 weeks each time)
4. The part arrives 7-10 days later.
Part doesn't fix the TV and it starts all over.
Customer service has no way to track the status because it is in a different system.
The repair shop has no way of tracking it because philips has to give them an Order number and this doesnt happen until they give permission to ship the part.
Anyhow, when you call customer service, their only function is to tap dance around until you get aggravated and bored and get off the phone. They may promise callbacks, but it never happens. I even got one of their supervisors to admit that they provide service, but not good service.
I have a friend with the comparable Samsung that he got at about the same time and it works fine. Also I have anotehr friend with the Sony and it works pretty well, but pricier.
I have never had a TV break in the less than a year, but this one did and a neighbor purchased one as well and it lasted only 15 months was too costly to fix.Picture actually wasnt bad. just poor quality.

2 comments about ilo 3200 32" Widescreen LCD HDTV Monitor w/ HDMI.
- I bought this TV just over a year ago because out of about 40 televisions on display, this one had absolutely the best picture quality of anything in the store. For picture clarity, color and display, I give this TV 5 stars. However, after only about 9 months, we started having minor problems, such as, when the TV was turned off, the picture went off first and then the sound about 15 seconds later. We didn't think much of it until the TV was about 11 months old and one morning it was "stuck". You could watch the TV, and even change channels with the Satellite dish, but the remote didn't work and the volume couldn't be adjusted nor could you change the mode (ie. to put it into video mode to watch movies). We brought it to a TV repair shop and they said that the "brain" was not working. The part was still under warranty, but the repair shop was very reluctant to work on the ILO because they said that ILO is VERY slow at reimbursing for parts under warranty. I spent about $85 on the repair (labor only - not too bad). Another minor drawback is that you cannot synchronize this TV with your cable/satellite remote (so that you can just use one remote) because ILO is too new and it is not recognized by the sattelite company's remote (DirecTV). Anyhow, it is not surprising that, in a time where cell phones and other electronic devices only last a year or two, that this is a pretty common problem. All in all, this is a great tv if you are fortunate enough to get one that lasts.
- I gave this the lowest rating possible, you just have to do an internet search and see why. This was given to me as a Christmas gift in 2007, bought from Walmart ($700), less than 6 months, I noticed distortion of the picture in upper left hand corner. So, I went on the web looking for causes/problems. Did I ever get a wake up. Warranty not covering, I thought I will make the best of it, my problem was minor compared to others. Well today, turned tv on, heck of a racket after a few minutes, picture is all distorted and tv shuts off. Completely waste of money, Amazon take note of this!!!
