5 comments about Sharp LC32SB24U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
  1. I initially considered the Samsung 330 or Sony L4000,
but I saw this when I actually went to the store. The
Samsung lacked S-video input, and the Sony was a little
darker compared to the other two. The Sharp was also
more compact around the screen with the frames being
the skinniest of the three. This was also the cheapest,
    and it had S-video.

I am extremely happy that I went with this TV. My BF
has a Samsung 40 inch i the living room, but we hardly
notice the difference in quality when we switch rooms.
The TV is very bright and can be used in room with lots
of sunlight. I recommend this to anybody shopping for a
    32 inch!

  2. Picture quality is excellent - you can see individual strands of hair in head shots. Setup was a breeze. This is a good size choice if you currently have a standard 25" set. It's the same height but you get the extra width. I had some video synchronization trouble when switching channels from my cable company's pseudo digital to true digital stations. I found that you can re-sync the picture by pressing the TV remote freeze button twice, once to freeze and another time to unfreeze. I had a standard Sharp TV before and was very satisfied, and I can say the same again with my new Sharp LCD HDTV.

  3. This DTV was purchased for my mother who had been wanting a more modern replacement to her dying 15-year-old set. Although many products are available to choose from, we chose this model because of the Sharp name and our previous good experience with Sharp Electronics and the quality behind the name as well as for its price. Since money was tight, we needed the most bang for the buck and this was our choice. The television arrived very quickly after shipping, was packed well and setup was so easy that we had it in place in just a couple of minutes. Ease of operation couldn't be any simpler. My mother, being elderly, needs simplicity when it comes to technology and this can't be beat. The quality is certainly there and we're all very pleased with the purchase.

  4. I am using this tv with analog cable. The box with the channel number in it keeps popping up all the time (every 30s-1min) on some channels. This is very annoying. Changing the channel takes a few seconds making channel surfing slow. Other than that it is a great product. With digital cable you should not be affected by the channel box problem. Unfortunately I do not have this option.

I contacted customer support about the channel number popping up and this was their reply:

"The display will populate on screen any time there is a change to the incoming signal (mono to stereo audio, weak/fluctuating signal strength). Unfortunately there is no way to deactivate the on screen display. If you are able, try using an alternate connection (composite video and analog audio; yellow, red and white cables) from your source device (cable/sat box, if using) to the unit. This will prevent this issue from occurring by providing a more consistent signal. Let me know if you have any other questions"

  5. I also had the problem with the channel popping up in the right top corner of the screen every 30 seconds or so. I called Sharp and they answered their help line very fast, they were obviously based in the US for support, and solved the problem by having me change to an RCA input from the DirecTV box rather then a cheap cable (yes, I'm just using standard def on this TV for now). But it improved the picture and got rid of the pop-up. Still, very annoying. I was very happy with their support.

As for the rest, very nice picture, good sound right from the built-in speakers, easy set-up. I would recommend as a second TV, or your first upgrade to a HDTV as it handles Standard Definition signal very well. Got it for less then $600.00, so much better then buying an off-brand with no support.

5 comments about Samsung LNT4081F 40-inch 1080p LED LCD HDTV with LED Motion Plus.
  1. Bought this TV from a regular retailer a week ago, and it is truly the best of the best. The colors are incredible, the detail is magnificent. If you have the budget for it, buy this one, no other compares. Colors are natural and crisp, details are sharp. Pair it with a new TivoHD and HD from your cable company and you'll never watch TV the same again. It offers lots of controls to fine tune the picture and sound to just the way you want, whether it's dynamic and contrasty, to warm and natural. This TV has it all! Thanks Samsung!!!

  2. This LCD has the black glossy look, the touch sensor which turns on the LCD, and of course the crispy look of the HD channels. The only thing that killed this LCD to me is the LED Motion Plus which states that it works as well as the other 120Hz LCD's. It doesn't. When an object is moved at a fast pace it breaks up. I see all of the "Judder" of the image. Disappointing. I also see banding which also bites. I've also tested it out by buying three pairs of HDMI cables, one was 2.2 Gbps, one was 5 Gbps and the other was 10 Gbps thinking it was the cabling. All showed the same disappointing problems. I then bought a monster surge suppressor with EMI protection to see if my power socket was giving "dirty" power. That wasn't the case. I can't see how people here say those things are non-existent. It's clearly visible. Maybe they need to watch some sport channels to see those flaws. This TV is great if you don't watch sports and don't mind the breakups of fast moving objects. Everything else the LCD offers is outstanding. Great color, crispyness, outside look, the LED backlight which gives the nice black background and of course the $1599 price tag with free shipping. If this LCD had the 120Hz I would of kept it instead of sending it back. I'm now going for the Samsung LN40A750 which has the 120Hz.

  3. Excellent picture quality. When HD program is available, the picture is awesome! Very easy to set-up. A nice improvement would be that all the remote buttons should illuminate so that the channel numbers and menus could be seen in the dark.

  4. First, the color and definition simply can't be touched. The blacks are very black. The brights are intense. (My 4-year old woke up to his first day of cartoons on the new tube, and it was too bright for him to take. I had to cut the backlighting to the minimum.)

Second, I have to admit I'm not a hardcore aficionado, but I just can't agree with the guy complaining of blur. I did notice some blur watching football on the factory settings, but just switching to "Dynamic" mode (which makes the LED Motion Plus kick in) put the kibosh on that. Since making that change, everything is clear and blur-free.

Maybe somewhere there's a superior 40-inch set, but I kind of doubt it.

  5. This TV was spectacular for the first week. Woke up this morning, turned on the TV and just got "weak or no signal" on both air and cable. Through process of elimination it is definitely the TV tuner. I would recommend you buy from a local store (Sears, Best Buy) that way you can return it immediately.

  1. This tv is beautiful and easy to set up.The worst of it is that it's best viewed when fully vertical, and the prop in the back isn't long enough for that, so I needed a piece of wood under it to raise it. It doesn't have its verticality worked out - unless you mount it on a wall. It has outlets and inlets for seemingly any device, and suggests hookups. It's been a daily part of my life for a month, and it's beautiful, and easy to control and hook up. I would highly recommend it.

5 comments about Toshiba 26AV500U 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
  1. I deeply enjoy my 32 inch Toshiba REGZA model, so when I wanted to get a 26 inch model for a small room (a kitchen), I didn't even look at any other brand. Unfortunately, no 26 inch REGZA model was readily available the day I made the purchase, so I took this 26 inch non-REGZA model. The picture is still gorgeous, though I strongly recommend getting the REGZA model in your desired size if at all possible. Perfect for wildlife and nature shows, as on Discovery HD Theater and National Geo HD channels, as well as for sports. Try the Sunrise Earth series on Discovery HD Theater--I think it's better (and better for you) than going to church! And for smallish screens (up through 32 inches) 480 is just as satisfactory as 720 or 1080 resolution. So save a few bucks and get a 480 model at a discounted price if you can find one. Else take the 720.

One minor quibble: no headphone jack (why not, Toshiba?). So run the sound through your stereo system, or anything which has a volume control, and plug your headphones in there for listening alone without disturbing the household (try Koss A130 for very decent quality at a moderate price).

  2. When my 9 yr. old 27" Phillips/Magnavox CRT TV blew out on me a few days ago, forcing me to join the Flat Screen TV world, I was worried-Most of the Flat Screen TVs I've seen in stores, catalogs & online were 32" and above, and I didn't think I could find a medium sized HD TV that would fit in my cubby-holed entertainment room, and also provide me with a quality viewing experience. Then voila, I see the Toshiba 26AV500U; It has ALL of the Bells & Whistles of the larger Flat Screen TVs. And any concern I had in losing that one inch of screen view quickly vanished, when I saw the GREAT picture quality on this Set!! To be sure, it will be a bit of sticker shock for Newbie Flat Screen TV buyers who haven't upgraded their TVs since the CRT days, until you look over at the bigger models and prices; Then, you'll be grateful for having THIS available choice. So,for those who are looking for a Great Flat Screen HD TV with the economy of price and size, that doesn't sacrifice quality, the Toshiba 26AV500U is the PERFECT FIT!

  3. This is the first LCD TV I have ever owned. I did not purchase this TV from Amazon, so I cannot comment upon how this item ships, but I would like to put in my two cents about this product.

What everyone has said about the picture quality is absolutely true. I had the opportunity to look at the Toshiba 26AV500U next to the likes of Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic, and I have to say that the Toshiba looked as good or even better than some of the various models offered by the competing companies. The well-defined contrast on the set is what gives it such a rich picture. Granted, this Toshiba is not the same quality as the sets that cost well over a thousand dollars, BUT, for less than $600, the picture alone is worth more than the money I spent. I am using this set in my very small bedroom, so the picture size is more than adequate. If you are looking for a set for your living room, you are probably better off getting a larger TV.

The only reason I'm not giving this product five stars is because I have experienced a problem with losing the audio on the set a few times. For seemingly no reason and quite suddenly, the sound will cease to function. In the manual that comes with the TV, one is instructed to reset the TV by unplugging it for five seconds. Every time I employed this method, the sound restored. I am concerned that this may become a more serious problem in the months to come (especially after the one-year warranty expires). Maybe I have a lemon, or perhaps this is a common problem with these sets. I urge anyone who wishes to buy an LCD TV to do extensive research on reliability issues BEFORE buying. I will try to update this if anything else occurs.

  4. What a wonderful TV - perfect, in fact. I already had the 47" size, and needed a smaller screen for my office. What a pleasure. Excellent reception, easy to operate, intuitive controls. AND the price is right. You can't go wrong. If this is the size screen you need, you'll be very happy with this TV. Love it. And, of course, ordering from Amazon is always a pleasure too. Go ahead, order it!

  5. I bought it several weeks ago and now it works ok. The picture is nice though not as good as some high end TVs. The menu is easy to use.

Just one thing bothers me that the TV takes long to wake up. When I turned it on, there is sound but no pic. I waited for 1 min the pic still does not show up. Then I turned it off and turned it on again, everything goes normal. Does it happen to all you guys? Or I missed some setting options?

  1. Excellent hdtv with easy set up and beautiful picture.

HDMI connections between Cable Box and TV suggested, helps with clear non-HD channels and adds clearer audio. Has up to 4 HDMI connectors.

I did a lot of research and picked this Sharp TV, and today I am one happy guy.

Be sure that 46" is the right size. Distance from the tv to the couch is important. 20+ feet distance is required for good viewing.

  2. Strengths:
    Stunning resolution
    Vivid color
    Strong Video Processing
    Stylish Design

    Weaknesses:
Not much, the speakers are average and the remote looks a little bit outdated.

  3. First off, yes I do see banding on vertical and horizontal pans with solid bright back grounds. Its not that bad and if I had never gone on to the AVS forum I would probably never had noticed it. If stuff like that bothers you then don't buy this TV or any other LCD TV in this price range. They all have some sort of artifact type issues. If you don't want any artifacts or motion blur then go plasma. You can go 120hz on a LCD but your going to pay a lot more money for the same TV with a higher refresh rate.

    The good...
I think Sharp has the best overall HD picture and color compared to any other TV in this price range. The colors are fantastic and I like the fact that you can fine tune the TV to your hearts desire. Black levels look good as well. The TV cabinet is well designed and the sound quality is good. SD channels look alright, better then most of the sets that I have seen out there. There is some motion blur on sports but not near as bad as the entry level Sony and Samsung TVs.

    The bad...
As I stated before it does having banding. Don't fool yourself into thinking you will get one with out it, they all have it. I mostly notice it when I am watching football and the camera does a fast side to side pan. I have read that a lot of people have problems watching hockey because banding that is caused by the ice. The remote is not very good. It wont control my Phillips DVD player or my Sony receiver. For some strange reason it does work with my Motorola cable box.

If it weren't for the banding this would be a 5 star TV. I have had it for about 3 weeks now with no other technical issues. I will update this review if any think changes

    Cheers

  4. The TV is great , the delivery was outstanding and the delivery was on time

  5. Beautiful picture, but then our last "new" tv was 10 years old. Only complaint - it will not pick up most of the current digital stations offered by our local channels. Sharp says the problem is with our antenna, which is not that old.

  1. I picked up this TV from Circuit City just before Labor Day. It is basically the same spec-wise as the 650 series. The only differences are 1 less HDMI port (3 instead of 4), a contrast ration of 40,000:1 rather than 50,000:1 and no infolink. For those who don't know, Infolink allows you to hook up the internet to the back of your tv via an ethernet jack. You are then able to pull up news, weather, and stock info from USA Today. This is all it lets you do though. Infolink does not allow you to download firmware, view web pages or anything like that. This is a great TV. 120Hz is amazing. It almost make it seem like the characters are right there in the room with you when you are watching blu-ray movies. The quality picture is great, the menu system looks nice and is easy to use, and for those who like lots of control over picture settings, to get their picture just right, this tv has a ton of different adjustable setting options, allowing you to adjust the backlight level, the black level, 120Hz processing level, gamma, white space, color space, color, contrast, brighness, sharpness, defeatable edge enhancement, and more

  2. Wow. This is a beautiful set - image quality is stellar - off-air and dvd source, 480, 720, 1080 all great. D-TV signals are amazing. Even stronger analog (i.e. old style NTSC) off-air signals look great. Audio clear and accurate. I've had it about a week and first impressions are really strong. Matte finish really helps if placement is near windows. This is a technological marvel. Menu's are clear, features are great, beautiful looking - I have to say touch of color is realllllly subtle, you can pretty much ignore this - it is classy without needing any extra gimmicks like this. Fast action/sports look great. Lots of tweaks to get a picture you will be happy with.

It is reasonably light weight, has swivel stand, viewing angle is excellent. It is like a jewel! Extremely well engineered. As of today, I think this set is at a price performance sweet spot. Samsung seems to really understands LCD video. If you are average person trying to find a good panel, you should be very happy with this one.

  1. I bought this as a gift for my finicky father, an avid TV watcher. He loves it! He is amazed at the picture quality, and can't get over how easily it dials to the right channel. He has used it to stay abreast of big games while playing golf, or to have on hand whenever. The only complaint is it runs through the batteries fast, which raised the total price for use. We ended up buying a battery charger to help.

It's been six months since he received it and he still loves it and uses it often.

  3. For:
    Color:Good
    Response:quick
    Control: good
    Size:compact
    Channels availability: lots of

    Against:
    1.8" is a bit small.

  4. PROS: Low price, LCD, AC/DC, AV inputs, headphone jack, auto mutes built-in peaker when headphones are used, decent battery life and overall ease of use.

CONS: No supplied AV cables or AC adapter, mono output, and it doesn't fit in my shirt pocket.

BOTTOM LINE: This was the least expensive TV I could find for our annual IL to AL car trip with two kids. I paid $28+ at Sam's Club in November 2003. The unit worked wonderfully as a TV; but, reception was glitchy at times on the highway; but then so was my cellphone. We bought a second one when we returned home.
    RECOMMEND: Yes

  5. This is a great little tv. The picture is so clear, I can read the scroll on the news. The downside is that it really sucks up the battery juice. Oh yeah, it will be obsolete in one year, once HD goes into effect.

  1. Easy set-up and great picture for the price. 6ms refresh rate makes the picture blur at times, but happens very rarely. Owned it for one month with no problems.

  2. I read many reviews some positive and some negative, I went with the positive ones and my own experiences with other Sharp products. I have had a Sharp Aquos LD37D44U 37-Inch LCD HDTV for about a month and must say that I am very pleased with it so far.

The picture quality is very good and it has every connection that you may want on the back. I am using the HDMI connection from a HDTV Verizon FIOS Box.

I have no problems with any lines or dead pixels as some have written about. If you are looking to buy a solid TV and not over pay for a name, then consider buying one of the Sharp Aquos LCD TVs.

  1. Good basic no thrills lcd tv. Great for a small room, picture quality is what you should expect for the price. Sound is lacking in bass, but ok for the price, could be helped with computer speaker system for not much money. Overall happy with product.

  2. I ordered this TV for a kitchen and it is a great size for that. I was very disappointed in the non-high def picture quality and sent it back. The other disappointing feature was the poor sound quality. I guess I should have done more homework before ordering.

  3. I was looking for a small LCD screen that I could use for a smaller bedroom just for easy hookup for my Xbox 360, PS2, and other vintage consoles (Genesis,NES, etc.). The Sylvania 19" LCD was easy to setup and is a nice portable TV for anywhere in the house. Picture is clear and crisp, audio is average but I haven't tried external speakers yet. The remote buttons are sometimes hard to push, but overall a great deal for the price I paid.

  4. Nice enough TV. I was kind of disappointed because it was advertised with an HDMI input but had none. (This has since been corrected in ad). Speakers are weak and would need additionals if being used in a large room. Picture is clear and bright and it picks up the HD channels in my area just using rabbit ears.

  5. I received almost the same TV but in a larger screen size as a Christmas present, so when I needed to add a second TV for my bedroom I went with the same brand. Very nice picture, decent sound, reliable.

  1. The TV arrived quickly and I love it. Great picture and blu-ray and HD look even better. Couldn't be happier!

  2. This is my first HDTV (I am an electronics engineer so, it took very long for me to buy one that i like). But this tv blows me off. Great natural colors, no bright and deep colors as in other samsung and toshiba Tvs.

The Menu is simple but even then it gives wide range of adjustments. Don't be attracted by the video reviews of the other TVs given all over the internet about the different options you can change on your TV because you know what, not many people use all those menu items. This has got bunch of inputs to it and it also have a headphone jack. I added my Bose system to this TV and it really gives a great Movie Experience.
The edges can be a little too glossy, but if you are a person who likes to keep the things neat, you will love the gloss.
Very useful menu item as skipping the Inputs makes this more versatile.
16 ( 4 x 4 ) Customizable favourite channels make life a little more easy. I bought this TV for the olympics and the NBC gives a HighDefinition Feed using the regular cable(no HD receiver required to watch some of the channels like NBC, TNT, A&E ) and its absolutely stunning. I also get some digital channels that are great. The audio can be skipped between mono, stereo, surround where available.
This is a tv that can be rated more than 5.
    Pros: Everything.. really amazing tv.

I cannot believe you are still reading the review instead of going to the store and buying one. But for those who " have to read " here are the
cons: The Remote has to be really pointed to the receiver which can be a pain somtimes and also the channels skip a little slow, but that doesn't bother me.

note: avoid plasmas they give out toomuch glare.
If you are looking for a tv at this size, it really doesn't make a lot of difference between 720p and 1080p/i. it only matters when you go for a more bigger tvs.

And as an electronics engineer , i can safely say, that Sharp carrys one of the greater tv screens if not BEST.
    Hope this review helps.
Please email me with questions. more than happy to reply.

  3. This is a very nice TV. I have had this tv since about 7/30/08.

Pro's: The TV has a very good tuner, I was able to hook it to my basic cable with Comast and was able to get about 16 HD channels and 10 or more digital channnels. I haven't tried over the air tuner. HD channels look great, Standard Def channels look good. I have this set up in the bedroom and it works great for this purpose. 720p is all you need in this size of TV. The Favorite channels you can set up are great, on the remote you have favorites a to c and you can set 4 channels under each letter.

Con: Remote has to be pointed directly at the TV but not too bad

Other thoughts: I still haven't hooded this to my Direct TV receiver yet, so I can't comment on how the digital picture looks like from it! Nor have I gamed on it yet. TV does have a game setting and game timer!

If you are in the market for a 32' LCD and want a quality brand name for a good price with plenty of options this is the one for you!

  4. Could not find this model locally. Ordered from Amazon and had it in less than a week. Very happy with the transaction-would buy it again.

  5. I have only used this TV attached to a HD Sat. Great picture right out of the box, I have not changed settings at all.

The sound is adequate for a small room or a quiet environment but I intend to use the optical output to hook it up to my 5.1 sound system. (nice feature!)

It's amazing how light this TV is. Under 30 Pounds? The 27" glass TV this replaced weighs about 70.
