  1. I got the SurroundBar 50 last week after a few days of research. If you're researching for single speaker surround sound solutions that means you cannot run wires in your room thanks to the landlord or your wife (welcome to my world hehe).

You have couple of options when you're looking for a single speaker solution for your home theater project, and I was down to Yamaha and Polk Audio. Between the two I chose Polk Audio over Yamaha because (A) Yamaha requires a perfect 4 wall room so that sound can bounce back off the walls and create the surround sound effect, which I don't have (cathedral ceiling, staircase in the middle of the house so no back wall and side walls are far apart.) and (B) Yamaha costs way more. Don't get me wrong, Yamaha is awesome from what I read on Amazon and on other sites, but SurroundBar/SurroundBar 50 plus a decent subwoofer cost less than a Yamaha (which has an integrated subwoofer).

To pair with my SurroundBar 50, I bought a Velodyne Minivee 10 subwoofer. It was a bit of an overkill in my situation. But I wanted to spend a bit more and get a great sounding sub in case I wanted to build a better home theater one day. You can pair SurroundBar 50 with any Polk Audio sub out there. PSW111 is a good one for example. I have an Onkyo A/V Receiver and an Onkyo DVD player. The setup was fairly easy. SurroundBar 50 comes with the audio cables ready to be hooked up between the bar and your receiver. Everything is color coded so you can't really go wrong here. I hooked up an RCA audio cable between my receiver and my sub's line level inputs. Total setup = 1 hour or less.

After configuring my receiver to use the new bar and sub, I tested the surround sound with Matrix, Gladiator and Pitch Black DVDs. SurroundBar 50 produces the "enveloping sound" as promised. I still need some adjustments to do later but so far I'm pretty impressed with what I have. The SDA technology Polk Audio offers does a great job. This product will NOT give you a true 5.1 surround sound experience, so if you're an audiophile this is not for you. This product performs really well in creating the 5.1 effect. In Pitch Black you really hear those flying creatures moving around and in Matrix it's a pleasure hearing bullets flying by and ricocheting.

Overall I'm very impressed. I'm just happy I was able to setup a surround sound system under an hour and without running wires going through walls and furniture and carpet etc. Your experience may vary from mine so go to your local electronics store and give this a test. If your wife is like mine who is against speakers and wires around the room then SurroundBar might be the solution for you too. :)

  1. If you want bang for your buck sound, look no further. I am a recording engineer and producer and purchased these speakers to use in the entertainment/ theater room in my studio, they are wonderful. The dynamic power and focused sound is unmatched at this price point. With the THX certification you know your not just buying speakers, you're buying a theater experience! I matched these up with the Onkyo SR805, and boy does everything sound great. Stop shopping around. I was initially sent a malfunctioning subwoofer, I emailed C.A. and they sent me a new one for no charge, even let me keep the old one to try and get fixed at a local shop! have fun with this system! -Graham

  1. For my purposes, (ie: home use without attracting the cops); this speaker system works just fine. I could complain about the way the subwoofer doesn't take a direct subwoofer line -but who cares? This is a decent product for a fraction of the competetor's prices.

  2. This system is great for the money. It provides a stong sense of bass despite the sub woofer being in line with the front speakers. One thing I didnt like was the weak center channel. But overall, its great for a bedroom.

  3. This system is unbelievable! The sound emmitted from the 4 sats just totally threw me for a loop when I first hooked them up. I expected to get what I paid for (which was not very much) but instead, I feel like I got a $500 set of speakers. The sub was even adequate. I've owned Jensen, Sony, and Yamaha, but from now on, KLH is the way I'll go. Great job, KLH!

  1. I love this system! I bought the LG to replace my old Panasonic home theater system that served me well for 6 years. I love Panasonic's products, but took a chance with the LG because I am a big fan of their mobile phones. The instructions were simply and straight foward and it took only 15 minutes to put it together and get it up and playing. The sound is crisp and clear and it comes iPod ready. I may never venture outdoors again.

  2. Just got this unit yesterday and after figuring out the wires in the back (I have satellite through DirectTV) things are working very well. I couldn't give it 5 stars since it's not had a chance to show me anything but good yet. Watched a DVD tonight and the sound is excellent. Probably a little better suited for movies rather than music, but music still sounds pretty good. I still have to figure out all the functions, however.

I had a Sony unit (LG is Sony isn't it?)that was lower-end and the subwoofer rattled like nobody's business with loud, bass-y music but this LG subwoofer handles it beautifully. I'm digging on the iPod compatibility too. I work from home and now can operate my iPod from a distance and actually SEE what I'm selecting since the LG shows it on the TV screen. Not bad! I have no use for XM satellite music, but it's got the connectivity if I need it.

Like I said, so far... so good. if anything happens, I'll be sure to update my review. Good luck in your search!

  3. Subwoofer didn't work, so this system sounded horrible. Couldn't get it to play any sound other than when watching a movie. Packed it up and sent it back.

  4. I purchased this product hoping to rpelace old home theatre system. I can only rarely get DVD's to play on it. The DVD's work fine on my other player but not this one.
I used to be very happy with LG products but I will never again purchase another product with the LG name on it.
