5 comments about Polk Audio RM6880 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black).
- I have used this system for some 6 months and have found it to be an excellent system. The base is solid and tight. My Onkyo 7.1 receiver in 5.1 surround does a fantastic job of providing a surround experience that is far superior to many of the theater-in-a-box systems. I am considering addint two additional RM101 speakers to give this system it's full 7.1 capability. You won't be dissatisfied with the sound quality and the price is reasonable.
- This is a great sounding system! I would definitely buy again. The subwoofer is a little large but it sounds great. I also highly recommend the Polk SA2 speaker stands. They are made for this system and include all the hardware you need. The speakers sound best at the height set by the SA2 stands.
- Last holiday season, I wanted to gift myself a good home theater system. Though I started from some home-theater-in-a-box system, I quickly decided I get much better quality by buying a receiver and speakers. Once I made that decision, and set my budget $1000, I started searching again. After reading many reviews at different website, I first made up my mind on receiver Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) (I wrote a lengthy review for it, but cant see it anymore at that page - anyway, that is another excellent future-proof buy). Once that was done, I started searching for speakers for about $600. Though an AV enthusiast friend of mine suggested Polk speakers, I first bought a Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100 System Midnight Speakers, again based on internet reviews. That fit the budget well, but after installing it, I found that the sound wasnt great. The bass was boomy, and the surrounds/center wasnt any better either (mine is a 35x15 recroom). So I returned it, and bought this RM6880. I am so glad I did. The bass is just right for my recroom (at half-way setting of the powered subwoofer), and the surrounds and center sound so great. The lows, mids and the highs sound so real to me. I am not sure if I hear every single frequency between 20-20KHz, and I dont care. But trust me these speakers sound so good(as I said I am no audiophile, but I do know when something sounds good).
About the speakers, there are 4 identical satellite speakers, a center and a 10" powered subwoofer. The speakers and subwoofer are 130W peak (65 normal). I can now fill my 35x15 room with a volume setting of 50-60 and subwoofer setting of 50%. At volume level 90 the room literally shakes, so I havent taken it above that.
The only negative about the package was it didnt come with speaker wires (the MCS100 did). If you dont have your room already wired, get some cheap 16-guage wire - I bought (100' Spooled Speaker Wire) and I could feel a huge change in sound quality (compared to some 18 gauge I bought from Walmart).
Also, the subwoofer does *not* have a regular subwoofer jack. This was not a problem for me, as I have the subwoofer connected to the front speaker port of my receiver (following the tips on Polk's website - which, btw, is a must read, regardless of which speakers you buy).
Guess there is no AV setup that satisfies all. For someone who wants to hear realistic sounds (and effects), but who doesnt worry all that much a about a frequency that may or may not be dropped, this setup is great. I wont think of an AV setup for another 10 years for sure :)
- We recently finished our basement, and moved our "real" home theater setup down there. We still wanted something in our living room, however, so I purchased these speakers to go with an Onkyo receiver. They are small enough to make my wife happy (even hanging on the walls around the room), and have great sound for their price and size. The subwoofer is oddly shaped and *big*, but kicks out a good amount of bass if you crank it up. I prefer my music balanced, so usually keep it fairly low.
I used the included wallmounts, which had plenty of flexibility for my scenario. I put the anchor in to hang the speaker from, then marked where the "cable hole" is on the bracket, drilled down into the drywall at an angle, and ran the cable into the wall from there. Worked out quite well - cable's not visible at all.
- Great sounding speakers, very clear and the sub packs a very nice punch. Speakers are very good quality and you will notice as soon as you pick one up by the weight. I did a lot of research before I decided on a set of new speakers and I am very happy with this set. I bought a refurbished set from their factory online store (ebay) for $320.00 - not bad at all.

3 comments about LG 1000 Watt 5.1 Home Theater System, LHT754.
- I love this system! I bought the LG to replace my old Panasonic home theater system that served me well for 6 years. I love Panasonic's products, but took a chance with the LG because I am a big fan of their mobile phones. The instructions were simply and straight foward and it took only 15 minutes to put it together and get it up and playing. The sound is crisp and clear and it comes iPod ready. I may never venture outdoors again.
- Just got this unit yesterday and after figuring out the wires in the back (I have satellite through DirectTV) things are working very well. I couldn't give it 5 stars since it's not had a chance to show me anything but good yet. Watched a DVD tonight and the sound is excellent. Probably a little better suited for movies rather than music, but music still sounds pretty good. I still have to figure out all the functions, however.
I had a Sony unit (LG is Sony isn't it?)that was lower-end and the subwoofer rattled like nobody's business with loud, bass-y music but this LG subwoofer handles it beautifully. I'm digging on the iPod compatibility too. I work from home and now can operate my iPod from a distance and actually SEE what I'm selecting since the LG shows it on the TV screen. Not bad! I have no use for XM satellite music, but it's got the connectivity if I need it.
Like I said, so far... so good. if anything happens, I'll be sure to update my review. Good luck in your search!
- Subwoofer didn't work, so this system sounded horrible. Couldn't get it to play any sound other than when watching a movie. Packed it up and sent it back.

5 comments about Advent AV570 70-Watt 2-Way Powered Multimedia Speaker System (Pair).
- I hooked these puppies up to my computer and they rock. I have a serious audiophile stereo system and these sound nearly as good at one tenth the cost. Good bass and treble controls, sound is great even played softly, and really kick turned up loud. The only thing I am going to change is get longer wires so I can get better separation. Use them with anything that has a headphone jack for great sound.
- I had my computer for about two years without any speakers. Finally, I decided to add shielded, self-powered speakers that occupied a small footprint. When a pair of Advent AV570 70 Watt 2-Way Powered speakers arrived, I removed them from the packing. Small, yes; heavy, yes; easy to hook up with the enclosed cables, yes. I fired up the computer and headed to iTunes. The sound's magnitude is huge, beyond my wildest hopes! Movie sound tracks came to life. Via the stereo imaging, dialogue is magically centered. The AV570 speakers remarkably handle low frequencies. It's easy to adjust the EQ, should anyone want more treble or bass. Each speaker also has a knob to set the volume levels, and no distortion whatsoever emerges. Other people stop by to listen. They can hardly believe their ears. In my opinion, the AV570 is the best small speaker system on the market!
- These speakers sound very clean, and work very well together. They can't quite replace the need for a subwoofer, as the bass sounds a little forced. They're perfect for listening to classical music, which I do a lot of. The sounds is especially crisp for vocal and orchestral works. However, for hip-hop, which I also listen to, the bass is somewhat weak. Overall, a great deal!
- These speakers sound GREAT. However, there appear some design flaws. First and foremost, the power cords don't "seat" well and tend to pull out too easily. Secondly, the loud "pop" when they are turned on and off is annoying--I don't know if it is damaging to the speakers or not, but it sure sounds like it. Thirdly, they're not really a "pair", just two of the same speaker, so there are two on/off switches, two volume controls and two sets of tone controls. That being said, they are very good sounding portable speakers. Very convenient--just plug in your IPod and you're done. I bought them for my daughter's dorm room, but I have used them outside with a projector to show movies on the side of the house! When she leaves for school, I am probably buying another set!
- I've purchased three pairs of these, including the earlier "AR Powered Partners" version. Advent later picked up rights from AR and is producing a nearly identical model -- and the one most recently bought.
In years past, the speakers were directly connected to line output music sources (e.g. CD or MP3 player) in small rooms. The latest pair are being used as computer speakers.
The sound quality on these is excellent for vocals, folk, jazz, classical and other instrumental music where exaggerated base isn't the goal.
There are also a number of mounting options. Mine are raised to ear height on either side of paired computer monitors; using pipe stand mounts through the back of the speakers (a design option built into the speakers). The flexibility of mounting these speakers can help you get exactly the best location. For a clean-looking installation I painted the pipes flat black and ran the power and line wires through the pipes.
As others have noted, powering these powered speakers is a slight hassle. Each speaker has its own power switch and there is a loud click whenever they are switched on or off. The old AR version had push button power switches in the front. The new Advent version has rocker switches in the back. So, probably the best option is to plug both speakers into some sort of a more conveniently located switch -- either on a power cord or with something like an X-10 remote device etc.
If you'd like a set of these for a fraction of the cost, consider buying a used set of the AR Powered Partners. These will likely have damaged foam surrounds and sound terrible. However, new cones can be bought for under $10. The ones I bought were a bit undersized, but work OK. The replacement process should only take an hour or so, with lots of glue drying time in between. It's also possible to buy complete replacement drivers, but I haven't tried that route. What I can say is that my re-coned units sound fine.

- Bought this system on and budget lloking not spend more than 150 , for the price its actually quite loud and now that got and reciever that can pump out 5.1 digatl its amazingly loude but looking for system that makes neibors house rattle you might wany spend more dough but this sytem wakes my parents up and have only at 50% of the power. but be warned dont buy this unless you have and reciver or plan or getting one!
- We are very satisfied with this product. It is all we need for our den audio system. The price vs quality factors are very good. A recommended buy.
- Hooked this up for Home theater and its been great for movies. Really unless you have a really big space these speakers will be fine. I did a lot of research and found for the price these speakers are a great value, but then I have been told by professionals KLH speakers are always good values.
- These speakers truly surprised me. I thought for the money they would "get me by" until I had more to spend. I don't think that I am going to have to buy a "bigger and Better" set in any forseable future. These speakers sound great in my living room and I like my movies.in full surround. I would rate them as good or better than a lot of more expensive systems.

3 comments about Panasonic SC-HT40 Home Theater Speaker System.
- This machine sounds great, but it's a real pain to switch between audio inputs. Panasonic gave several inputs, but there's no way to cycle through all of them. You have to narrow all your inputs to two custom settings, really: by setting either the DVR/DVDp or TV to one input at a time. That means that when you push the input selection, you can only cycle though FM, AM, DVR, TV, the front mini audio in, and back mini audio (which is completely useless without the wireless system you have to purchase separately.) Would it have been SO hard to let us cycle through OPT1, OPT2, Analog 1, 2, and Coaxial? (Big Big Pain - just wait till you have to go though the menu system.) But...Panasonic makes Great products, so it's not a big deal unless you have several different things to connect to your receiver.
- I purchased 12/2006 for my boyfriend, so far we like it very much. I give it 4 stars b/c the quality/product for the price I paid was worth the cost (I am not comparing other similar products but comparing price to product ratio: value).
I purchased from a retail store (C.C.) for $169.99 on sale and I did buy a 3yr full warranty for $39.99 (total $209.98 + TX sales tax of $17.32 = $227.30). They also offered a 5yr warranty for $75.99+tax. These warranties are concurrent w/ the incl 1yr manufacturer's warranty. I purchased the warranty b/c people mentioned the unit overloading, blowing speakers, etc. after 1 month to 1 yr. I called Panasonic b/c they offer a similar warranty that starts after the 1yr incl man war: 2yr=$84.95, 3yr=$119.95 (if you call fast you get an "early bird discount" of 10%). With 10% off: 3yr(1yr+2yr)=$76.45, 4yr(1yr+3yr)=$107.95.
Here are a few pros and cons for you if you are looking at this model (everything I could think of)!
Pros:
1) Great sound for my size room (about 14 ft front to back & 15 feet wide) and good quality output/input: example Dolby Digital/DTS, etc. (read the specs for more details).
2) Everything included, nothing else needed (except maybe speaker stands if you like, but not really needed). Speaker wire is nice white, high quality 22 gauge copper wire.
3) MANY input options: 1 COAX digital, 2 optical digital and 2 RCA stereo (Red/White) analog sets and they can all be programmed in any order (ex. 1 coax digital w/ 1 RCA, 2 optical, 1 optical w/ 1 RCA, etc). There is one output option for the DVR/DVD player input that is a RCA stereo (Red/White) analog set for recording (I have never used it, but it says you could take the DVD player sound back to the TV, etc).
4) Good color display screen
5) Easy setup and programming (just read the manual and then you can do it months later--that easy to remember and only took me 5 minutes to program everything).
6) AWESOME subwoofer: slim, strong, shielded well, wood, speaker protected.
7) Panasonic is very honest about the power (wattage) output and low power consumption (even says when powered off it will use 1W).
8) Direct FM/AM tuning: enter the exact station number w/ remote (no need for scrolling up/down by .1, though you can do that too).
9) 30 FM/AM presets programmable in any combination of AM/FM (easy to program).
10) Great look, durable, nicely made and buttons seem strong (I don't think this model will break easily--that is as far as the physical structure).
11) Multiple wireless options: rear speakers w/ rear music port AND/OR 2nd room speaker w/ music port. You can purchase the SH-FX60 to have rear speakers and a rear music port that sends audio from the port back to the unit (could be used for say computer output, etc.). You can also purchase the SH-FX80 to have a single speaker in the rear middle OR in a second room (also has a music port but does not send back to the unit, from what I have read). If you purchase both, they will both work, so you can have dual rear wireless speakers (SH-FX60) and also branch to a 2nd room (SH-FX80).
Cons:
1) The speakers come w/ cables attached! This is really annoying b/c if you need longer speaker wire you have to splice&solder on more to the existing/attached cable which could lower quality. They fit my size room (barely, but I have the cable run around the outside perimeter/edges of the walls--not straight back), so if you have a room about 14x15ft then you are okay or if you want to run them straight back (diagonally) such as under the carpet or a rug, etc.
Speaker wire is white, high quality 22 gauge copper wire--nice quality.
I couldn't find the speaker wire lengths documented, so I measured and here are mine (probably at most 1 ft from average):
1 Center: SB-PC40: 6.5 ft
1 Subwoofer: SB-W40: 13 ft
2 R/L Front: SB-PF40: 13.5 ft
2 R/L Rear/Surround: SB-PS40: 26.5 ft
2) Speakers have a cloth cover (no plastic mesh/checkerboard shield to protect the speaker). So if you drop, puncture, etc. the cloth you go straight into the speaker (I like the mesh so if a speaker is ever hit, dropped, etc. the mesh can protect the important part--the speaker). THERE IS ONE EXPECTION: the subwoofer is VERY well shielded and is MUCH better than most designs that use the side output w/ just cloth. The subwoofer has a plastic cover on the front (a front facing speaker cone) that protects the cone and the only access to the actual speaker surface are slits on front (both sides) that are about 6-7in tall and at the widest point is 1in wide (see picture for better understanding of my measurements here).
3) The speakers appear to be cased/caged/held/mounted/shielded using ONLY plastic (w/ exception of the front where there is just cloth...read above). The plastic is very solid and appears to be very hard (so I believe it to be very durable and will hold up). I would have preferred wood (to enhance quality) but that doesn't always add THAT much to the smaller speakers. Again THERE IS ONE EXPECTION: the subwoofer case/cage is solid wood on every side but the front (just painted silver to match other speakers); the front is thick/heavy duty plastic.
4) The system only allows you to select 2 inputs from the 5 possible rear inputs (1 COAX digital, 2 optical digital and 2 RCA stereo (Red/White) analog sets). Select options "menu" automatically include Tuner AM, Tuner FM, Rear Music Port (used for the digital transceiver's digital audio port IF you purchase and install/setup Panasonic SH-FX60), Front Music Port (for the audio port on the front of the unit--works great), TV and DVR/DVD-P. The TV and DVR/DVD-P options can be set to ONE of any of the 5 possible rear inputs. So for example, TV could be 1 of the RCA stereo (Red/White) analog set inputs and DVR/DVD-P could be 1 of the 2 optical digital inputs or the COAX digital input. This is a pain, BUT it only took me 10 seconds (at the unit) to change the option using its very easy menus.
5) Remote can only select between TV, DVR/DVD-P, and Tuner AM/FM. It cannot select the Front or Rear Music Port options. The remote also ONLY works w/ Panasonic devices. So, for example, if you had a Panasonic TV, you could turn it on/off, do TV/VIDEO selections and volume (possibly channel w/ the numeric inputs, but I am not sure); or if you had a Panasonic DVR/DVD Player you would have more options too. BUT if you do not have any other Panasonic devices the remote ONLY works for the Home Theater Audio System (SC-HT40) receiver. This is not that big a deal, but would have been nice if it could have been programmed to my Sony TV and Sony DVD Player.
6) FM/AM antenna wire lengths are short (but are normal lengths when compared to other systems...not any shorter). The unit does not seem to get the best FM/AM reception/signal quality either (or at least for my setup and location--DFW metroplex).
7) The unit seems to get hot after a while, but this is probably normal, and I know many other units put off the same amount of heat.
- It was hard to find a 5.1 system in this price range that had optical digital input needed for the Xbox 360, so I was pleased with this. I was disappointed with the unpowered subwoofer & cardboard-like speaker enclosures. But it sounds fine for its use and it's good for its price. And my fault for assuming the subwoofer was powered.

5 comments about Sony SA-FT1H Flat Panel Speaker System.
- I was initially concerned about these speakers getting lost in my large room with high cellings. Turns out they fill the room nicely with clear sound. The sub generates good low rumbles and tight punches.
The speakers don't look as "soft" in person as in the pics, they are "hard" plastic, however they do have nice clean lines. I can say these are good speakers for the "average" theater room. Don't look any farther for speakers if you have limited room or budget.
- While the other speakers and sub woofer are fine, the center speaker is simply too weak and after a little use began crackling at times. Unfortunately, the center speaker is where most of the dialogue in movies comes from, so if it's weak the rest of your surround speakers don't matter too much. I returned this item as a result and upgraded to some nice Harmon Kardon speakers that cost twice as much but are worth it.
Also, one other thing that wasn't a big deal but was a bit annoying was the auto on/off with the sub-woofer. It worked fine, but when it turned on and off it would make a loud clicking noise, usually at the beginning of a movie once the low frequency clicked in. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning.
- I just bought these set of speakers on clearance at my local Circuit City for only $100. They only had 1 set in stock. I imagine the clearance price would be all throughout Circuit City, but who knows. Good luck if you do find them.
- I like this product a lot, it sounds great, especially for the price. I have no compants at all. The speaers are very small and can be hidden in a room not to mention it goes great with a flat screen tv.
- Speakers were exactly as described by the website. Setup was easy, regardless of the very unclear and unhelpful instruction booklet that came with the product.

5 comments about LG LFD750 - Micro system radio / DVD - glossy black.
- Bought used three days ago. Not used so far: the DVD functionality.
Pluses:
* Great design. Teens or adults would probably be happy. Touch (rather than button) controls take some getting used to but are responsive.
* Great sound. Lots of volume at low setting and bass is strong.
* Size of unit and speakers work well for a bookshelf (fits with an IKEA Billy bookshelf)
Problems:
* USB flash drive functionality is under developed. It says that you can play mp3s if you have 1,000 files or less of any kind on your flash drive. I tried this with one with mostly non-music files with about 500 files and it could read that the music files were there but refused to play them. After reformatting the flash drive and putting just one album's worth, it worked. I decided to give up on the flash drive idea and pair the device with a Squeezebox 3 so that I would have direct access to music from my computer.
* Needs FM antenna for FM to work where I live (I got an antenna and the device-antenna connector called a "transformer" at RadioShack; plugging in the transformer even before attaching the antenna seemed to fix this)
* Shiny black plastic piano finish can get scratched but is only apparent in a lot of light.
Bottom line: Great design and sound make it a good value. Improved USB functionality (and maybe HD radio functionality) would make it a five-star.
- Before Christmas, we purchased two LG Model LFD750 Micro Systems, one for our use and one to send to our daughter out west. I had seen one in a Best Buy store and had admired its design, but I went to Amazon because time was short for holiday delivery.
It is trim, sleek, small (but heavy, indicating substantial magnets in the speaker components) and offers a wide variety of applications as a (Yes, I mean it!) a HOME THEATRE system. It fulfills that name, and then some. Most importantly, it sounds great, delivering clear, rich sound at all levels. It plays CDs and DVDs, so that you can hook it up to a TV or monitor and watch a movie on it with great, wide theatre-quality sound. It also provides excellent FM and AM reception and has interconnections for ipod and mp3 use. The EQ feature allows you to customize the sound mixes to your liking. In short, it is a major hit in every way! I am an opera singer and am very fussy about the quality of sound that gets to my ears. This is a reasonably-priced, five-star winner!
- I have owned this product for approx 6 months.
Every time I use it, I am annoyed that I spent $[...] for this.
Anyway:
Pros:
*Good sound
*Good video
*Looks sexy
*Ipods work with the provided cable.
Cons:
*Slow cd/dvd "read" to ready to "play" time
*The on system control buttons sometimes need to be pressed multiple times for them to work.
*USB-hahaha a joke. NOT even a feature I try to use anymore. I have tried basic 1 gb mp3 players (Creative Zen Nano)- some content is read, other content is somehow not found by the stereo. It wont pick up my new Creative Zen 8gb at all. My external hard drive (WD My Book) doesn't work on it either.
*The unit has only 1 set of RCA cable plug ins and 1 component plug in; granted, this is only a bookshelf system.
- Pluses
1. Good Sound, helped by XTS Pro.
2. Integrated subwoofer in speakers.
3. Classy and attractive.
4. Can replace speakers with your own if you like.
5. Play DVD with component output.
6. Play MP3 and Divx/Xvid files on CD/DVD and USB (flash and one external hard drive I tried).
7. iPod integration with music and videos.
8. Price.
Minus
1. Amplifier has weak bass, though the sound is compensated by integrated subwoofer in the stock speakers.
2. iPod integration is achieved using a supplied iPod cable but no dock so you can't have the iPod sitting in an upright position. Even if you have an Apple dock, the cable seems to only work if it is connected to the iPod directly, not through a dock.
3. iPod videos can only be played through composite output, not component.
4. iPod videos not supported in latest iPods like iPod Classic and iPod Touch.
5. No shuffle or random mode.
6. If MP3 contains embedded album art, no ID3 information will be shown if the file is played from a CD/DVD but works fine if the same file is played from USB.
Note: LFD750/FB162 is now replaced by LFD850/FB163.
- I bought for stereo only, the speakes are not that good, no low frequencis, like on the specs!

2 comments about Harman/kardon HKTS 11 - Home theater speaker system.
- these speakers look very stylish and match perfectly w/ my ps3 & samsung tv. i love the sound and power of the subwoofer. i plan on adding 2 surround speakers so that i can fully enjoy my receiver's hd settings. i truly recommend these speakers to anyone who wants to save money and yet have good quality. don't over spend money on speakers that are overrated.
- The HKTS-11's are almost identical to the newer and more expensive hkts-18's in every way. Why pay more for the same thing? If you are looking to spend under 600 bucks on a surround sound system including the reviver, then you have two options. One, buy a pre-packaged HTIB (home theatre in the box. Two, buy a separate receiver and then add your own speakers. I chose to do the second. For the same price, I bought a real component receiver and then added these speakers and sub woofer to it. Result? Twice the flexibility, power, and quality for the same price as the nicest HTIB out there from Best Buy or any big box store. The speakers are handsome and clear. The sub woofer is thumping! I highly suggest this package!!! Amozon and JandR equaled the same quick shipping!
BTW, the speakers came with wall mounting brackets and speaker cable. The speakers are black even though the box pictures silver.
