  1. Buttons feel like they should. From the feel of this remote it is built for the long term.
One of the easiest to program in learning mode.
    All buttons are backlit!
    A+

  2. My wife complained about all the remotes on her end tables. I bought this for her. I just got done programming it for her and she loves it. Considering how old some of my equipement is I really got a charge out of the learning ability of this remote. I kept my wife in the room so she could pick out which button on the remote did what she wanted. I took me about an hour but it was time well spent. I truely recommend this for the husband who is techno savvy with a wife that isn't.

  3. I hoped this product would give me some level of convenience dealing with the multi remote environment. No such luck! It is impossible to duplicate the functionality of my cable remote - at least for me. I have a Masters degree in technology but no amount of patience and time could make it worthwhile to try to program this cryptic device to easily control my system. Too good to be true - yes. It seems to work but is no shortcut to a better environment to enjoy HD/Surround-sound etc..........

  4. After using the higher end URC Remotes and programming for customers, I thought that the RF20 would be a perfect solution for a cheap & easy to program remote.

Programming started out easy, setting up each device was a simple task. Getting each onto the remote was quite simple. But thats when the simplicity came to a screeching halt! When trying to customize the remote with different labels and trying to macro program the remote, it turned out to be one of the most difficult programming jobs that I have ever faced!!! After spending 4 hours at the customer's house, I was more frustrated than ever!!!

The company needs to update the processes in order to get simple macros programmed into the remote. For example: The power on macro works, but when I tried to set up certain switching between devices macro, it was impossible to get it programmed.

I would recommend this to someone who owns a very simple setup of a TV & dvd player, but not to someone who owns a receiver switched setup.

  5. I bought this to replace a DISH Network RF remote in our bedroom. But it wasn't until I read the direction book that I found it won't control other RF devices. It requires its own radio receiver. So I returned it. (Thankfully Amazon has a very good return procedure.)

Otherwise, it worked well for the main functions, and the directions are well-written. I have an off-brand TV, (Digital Lifestyles), which didn't have a code number, so I had to program each button individually. Not every function was able to be programmed.

  1. Other than having the touch screen fail on my older TSU 3000 units I hope this TSU 3500 will last longer ... gosh I love it (to death?)!
I rate it 4 stars not knowing it will outlive my expectations (3-5 years). Else I'd give it 5 stars. Problem is, if it does last, I will not remember to come back here and upddate this review ... sigh ...

  2. The remote is way too big to fit in one hand and the screen seems distorted. Maybe the color version is better, but this didnot look good at all. Programming is easy and this remote will do a lot, but one thing it didn't come with was the rf/ir extender and it has been discontinued for this remote, that's why I sent it back.

  3. I have 3 of these remotes and a TSU7500 color model and I would not trade my remotes for any other brand. This is a great remote for someone who wants to fully customize their home theater or whole house to control their lights, heating ang cooling system, drapes, and many other items. Just be warned! This remote is made to be programed by trained Home Theater professionals or someone with previous experience with the Pronto line. If you hire a local Home Theater professional it could cost anywhere from $150.00 and up to program this remote. So remember to figure that into the cost of the remote. On the other hand, if your willing to take the time to learn to program this remote you will not be disappionted. You can go to [...] and goto files and download many sample files that you can learn from and customize to fit your needs.

  4. I really like this remote. Since it is totally programmable, I can make it do whatever I can think of. The programming software is very simple to use once you figure it out. Programming is time consuming and tedious, but once it's done this remote works great. I did not use any preset functions, I only used the learning functions from my other remotes. The best part is that the program saves your configuration, is easy to modify, and should something bad happen, no reprogramming will be needed.

This will be the last remote I buy.

  5. This is a great improvement over the TSU3000 which gave up the ghost (and has since come back). Programming is still a major project and finding codes for some devices impossible, but the results are worth the effort. This is not for the novice though. I had to start with professional services to do the initial programming and have done my own since, but am probably still missing some of the "cool" stuff. I haven't done any "pretty" layouts, just the basic buttons, but they work. Support has also been pretty good. They haven't had some answers I had to figure out myself, but they are available with reasonable wait times.

  1. Great in-wall speaker volume control. Nice and modern design. Only thing is that for some reason, my boxes do not sit super tight to the wall. I have it installed just next to the light switches, and this box sticks out slightly further than the adjacent electrical cover plates.

    Very pleased with this product.

  2. These work really well and install in a matter of just a few minutes, I put three in my house and they look great and work great!

  3. Using five of these with five sets of built-in speakers connected to a media center with a 900 Watt Yamaha amp on low setting highly recommend this volume control. Easy install with wall cutout plate for easy mounting no outlet box required can be installed easily in drywall.

  4. I ordered this a few weeks ago, order went through, item described as in-stock. a few days later they cancel my order and give no excuse or anything. The order doesn't even show up in my amazon order history. Great service when they just wipe an order away as if it never happened. Don't risk it buying from these guys, you're just wasting your time.

5 comments about Rf Remote Front Row Mac Only.
  1. So, after messing with this for a long while in Leopard - I figured it out. The 'menu' button replicates pressing command-escape, so that shortcut needs to bring up front row. By default, that shortcut isn't enabled.. So go enable it! That makes everything work, which is super.

  2. I found the description for this product a little lacking when I was looking for a remote for use with my Mac Mini and Front Row 2. I ended up buying it without feeling real good about whether it would meet my needs. I'm happy to say it did. Quite simply, let me tell you what this remote WILL do...

    1. Toggle back and forth between the Mac OS and Front Row
    2. Toggle the computer to sleep, then wake it up again. Very useful feature.
    3. Raise and lower the volume of the Mac.
    4. Play and pause
    5. Skip forward using a single click of the right or left arrows
    6. Fast forward in three different speeds by holding down the right or left arrow keys.
    7. Eject the DVD from the Mac. Good feature considering Macs don't have a way to eject without using the keyboard.
    8. Mute the volume.

So far as I can tell, but I could be wrong, this remote WILL NOT control anything but Front Row...other than the volume of the Mac and ejecting DVD's or CD's. Other keyspan remotes can be programmed to work with other apps, if you need that. The others, however, require software installation and setup, and cost quite a bit more.

The distance on this remote is really, really great... regardless of what you may have read from other customers. I can only assume they got a bad unit. I can use mine from the other side of my house, through walls and around corners.

One other thing to know... not a negative, just something you need to know up front... the USB dongle on this remote requires it be plugged into a USB port directly on the Mac... which means you can't use it plugged into a USB hub or the Mac keyboard.

In the interest of full disclosure...I purchased this from Amazon, but after a week of waiting I discovered they hadn't even shipped it yet, even though it was "In Stock" when I ordered. I then became frustrated and purchased from a local retailer. The amazon item eventually showed up and I returned it as I have no need for 2 of them. So, while I can and do recommend this item, I didn't technically get mine from Amazon.

  3. I bought this for my Powerbook G4 to use with Remote Buddy software. As a teacher, I needed something to drive presentations including multimedia.
I looked into getting more expensive USB remotes with multimedia features, but concluded that the combination of this simple device with special software (to increase its functions) was the most economical and flexible solution.
This won't be the best choice for everyone. For one, it doesn't include a laser pointer, but it has good range that does not require line of sight. Also, the battery has lasted a long time without needing replacement. Although it uses a button battery that is not as easily found as AAA cells, most places that sell watch batteries will have them.
The buttons are slightly "mushy" rather than "clicky", but the responsiveness is good.

  4. Mine arrived DOA. In the instructions, you are directed to remove a plastic retainer in the battery compartment. Mine did not have this retainer. I purchased another battery figuring that was the issue, but no dice. Returned to Amazon. I'll be using a Wiimote via bluetooth with the remote buddy software to run my older G4 mac mini htpc.

  5. Works quite well and does what it says it is supposed to do. I do have an issue that might be just with my model computer. When I put the computer to sleep using the remote control, a while later it is asleep with the fans racing. I have tried it several times to make sure it is just happening from the remote and sad to say the results were correct. BTW I have a dual G5 2.0 running the lastest Leopard OS 10.5.3. Even though I can't put the computer to sleep using the product without issues the positive side is I can control all my media from anywhere in the room and I was waiting a long time for someone to finally come out with this product for computers without remotes. It is also likely that the problem might be with Leopard as the remote was made before the release of this OS. Even with the problem I give it a high rating.

5 comments about Sony RM-AX4000A Home Theater Remote Control.
  1. My wife bought me the Sony commander for Christmas and, almost a month later, I still haven't got this thing figured out yet. I can't believe how complicated programming this remote is. The accompanying software isn't user friendly at all. X-press settings -- forget about it!! I owned the earlier version of this same remote which, unfortunately, fizzled out but it was much easier to program manually. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone and it's difficult to believe that this is an actual Sony product.

  2. The Sony RM-AX4000A Home Theater Remote Control is already programmed for all Sony common functions. All of my stuff is Sony. I took the batteries out of four remotes and stored them away.

One control now does everything I ever did with four. Easy for me!

  3. After reading all the reviews I finaly purchased the remote. The only flexible way to program the unit [as stated by many others] is through the Advanced computer USB Sync mode. Once you get over the hurdle of the first Advance programing of your various remotes the Sony remote will have to be updated for your paticular system set up. This is where the unit SHINES. You can amend your Advanced setups very quickly once you truly understand your systems needs. There is no way anyone would be able to set up the Sony AX 4000A and get all of your individual parameters figured out the first time. All my AV gear is from different manfactures, Projector, TV, Receiver, Cable Box, and a DVD Player. My kids use to laugh at me when I would line up the 6 remotes, eye glasses and flashlight to enjoy a movie. 6th remote is for a Hunter fan/light which does not use IR technology. Now I use the Sony Remote and the Hunter Fan/Light remote, no eye glasses the lighted screen is Great. Yes the first time to set up the remote can be very overwhellming but like any modern day computer based device given time you can become very proficient at it's use. I hope it works well for you maybe not the first time you set it up but maybe by the 4th or 5th time you will have this baby dialed in. Best of Luck

  4. I have all Sony product except an Onkyo receiver and Hd cable box. I used the op-pc and no luck. Tried manual and only get part of the controls. Logitech Harmony has a better remote however the battery life is so short.

  5. the only problems i have with this remote are that it does not work with my sony cdr/cd player recorder, deck A plays cd's and the remote works with that deck, but deck B records cd's and the remote will not work with it. also this remote has no drivers or upgrade support for windows vista when you try to program the remote. thank goodness for my old pc that still uses windows xp. all in all im happy with my purchase.

  1. This remote does it all, it even worked my air conditioner in guest room. It has the RF function and with the RF extender this remote will work across the street once it is paired to it. The programing is a little intense but once you have your entertainment room setup you will never go back to the cheap universal remotes. I am very happy with this remote and it is excellent for the person who wants to have the lights dimmed, curtains drawn, and the projection screen to drop down automatically while turning on everything you need to enjoy your setup. I am amazed at what this remote can do.
Don't forget to buy the extender with this remote to work the RF function. Logitech® Harmony® RF Wireless Extender
I bought both from another site as a set and paid $285.00 plus shipping so look around first.
A must have for the person who has everything.

  1. Goes with the RF30 remote a must have if you get the RF30 remote and want to use the remote anywhere.

  2. NO problems encountered. Radio Control allows you to hide your equip and still control it. No annoying lights from equip and great wife acceptancy factor(WAF).

  3. This unit was the easiest thing I had ever setup. I purchased it to use with my URC MasterControl RF30, as recommends on Amazon, and all I had to do is plug it in and stick the IR wires on each IR receiver for each component. The IR wires have a nice flat end with two-sized tape on them already. It is working great and was very easy to setup.
