5 comments about Phlilips SJM3151 Universal Remote for iPod.
  1. All in all a solid product. Easy to program. Easy to use. Operates smoothly, if not a little slow. I previously owned a DLO Homedock which developed a nasty tendancy of locking up and needing to be reset. I also like the fact that, unlike the DLO Homedock, the Philips Dock does not need to load in the info from the Ipod. No matter which family member is using the dock, it automatically displays their menus and playlists. With the DLO if a different Ipod is inserted you have to go through a process to load it's info into the remote. I also think that having replaceable batteries i the remote is a positive development. With the DLO te remote utilizes hard wired rechargable battery. Over tme it will lose its ability to charge rendering it useless.
Only a couple of minor complaints. When accessing the settings menu through the remote it does not allow for the changing of the EQ settings. A color display would also have been nice.

  2. I purchased the "Phillips SJM3151 Universal Remote for iPod" about a month ago and it works exactly like I hoped it would. I use it becasue I have speakers downstars and outside that are hooked up to my stereo upstairs - so I can plug my iPod into the stereo and use this remote anywhere inside or outside the house to adjust the volume, skip to the next song, change the playlist etc. All you do is plug it in, put your iPod in it, and start using it. I have an 80GB iPod (with about 70GB of music on it) and was thrilled that it connects to the iPod right away (you push the button with the iPod picture on it). The menu options are "Playlists", "Artists", "Albums", and "Songs". When I select any of these menu options my stuff comes up right away, even with 70GB. The screen displays 5 things at a time and you can navagate down (one line) or page down (next 5), which the unit does quickly. The screen goes blank to conserve battery life several seconds after using it. The remote feels solid and has a familiar layout. One thing to mention is that even though this is a Universal Remote, only the iPod can be controlled without "line of sight" to the unit.

I read that some of the other models have to import lists from the iPod when you first set it up. Reviewers of those models said this was a pain becasue it has to re-import when you add or change stuff or if you plug in a different iPod. Not so with this one - you just put any iPod in the dock and start controlling it with this remote.

One minor things I wish it did - I can't start the iPod playing without using the remote. This is becasue when you put it in the dock the iPod changes to that "ok to unplug" screen. Even if I start it playing first, it stops when you plug it into the dock.

To sum it up - simple to use, excellent quality, works like it came with my iPod, love it.

  4. I was at first disappointed with this product. It worked with my satellite receiver, my tuner, my TV, my DVD player -- everything except my iPod! After lots of plugging and unplugging of cables (and gnashing of teeth...), I finally contacted Phillips customer support. They recommended that I return the product for replacement. Amazon is amazing when it comes to replacing defective products. They shipped out a new one immediately, I returned the defective one, and now I'm controlling my iPod -- along with all of the other gadgets -- with one remote. Gotta love that!

  5. Let's dispense with the bad:

    1) Could use a back light.
    2) Better to think of this as a remote for your iPod, and not as a universal remote for all your other home theater equipment. If you need the latter, look at something like a Harmony remote.

    Now with the good:

If you have a home theater system, plus speakers in other locations attached to the system, this is a great remote. I have a complicated home theater system, but I also have speakers in the back yard and in a reading room. The only time I listen to my iPod is when I'm in one of these other areas (if I'm in front of the main system I will play the better sounding CDs, thank you very much). This remote allows me to control the iPod almost as well as if the iPod were in my hands. Headphones stink. They either sound bad, are uncomfortable, or both. I can sit back in a comfortable chair, or by the pond, and listen to music over quality speakers, and not get my lazy butt out of the chair just because the record industry subjected me to another crummy song put on an album as filler (yes, I know I could take those songs off the iPod, but I have a large collection, and, as stated previously, I'm lazy).

5 comments about Dynatron Miracle Remote for Toshiba TVs- MR120.
  1. I have a 1997 Toshiba 27" television set. The remote broke long ago and finding a replacement produced a, 'no longer available'! Even the Toshiba company had stopped manufacturing this item long ago. Every effort brought me to a dead end. What I should have done was come to Amazon first! I received my Dynatron MR120 today and it is everything the manufacturer advertised. It has all the options that my original remote had including all the PIP settings, surround sound, and menu choices. I consider it a fantastic deal at a very reasonable price.
    Victor G

  2. Our dog thought our original remote was a chew toy, so I bought a cheap universal remote as a replacement. The universal worked basic features like volume and changing channels, but we dearly missed our picture in picture! The Dynatron Miracle Remote was the answer. It is an awesome product. It's not fancy. It looks a little cheap, but it does everything it promises. I must be honest & say that the first Dynatron remote I ordered had a glitch that prevented the power button from functioning properly. It happened within the first 30 days but it was too late for me to return it to the online retailer I purchased it from. I contacted the Dynatron company directly & they asked me to send my remote in for a replacement. I did & they replaced it for me almost immediately, with no hassel, dispite the fact that I didn't have a receipt and didn't purcahse it directly from them. I was very impressed with that & the new remote works perfectly.

  3. The Miracle Remote not only has all the functions that the original remote had, but it's easier to use. Great product!

  4. We lost the remote to our 36" Toshiba Cinema Series television that was manufactured in 1998. The remote control for my Dish satellite would turn the TV on and off, change channels and volume, but I could not access any of the TV's advanced features such as PIP, surround sound settings, etc.

As soon as I took the MR120 out of the box and put batteries in it, it worked just like the original remote did. ALL TV features are now accessible. Works beautifully.

  5. I have a 2002 Toshiba TV and the remote doesn't work at all. I'll try exchanging it but by the time shipping adds to the cost this isn't such a good deal.

5 comments about DirecTV RC64 Universal RF Remote Control.
  1. This remote is a nice compliment to my current remote for my Directv HDDVR RC23. It has larger buttons and is slightly bigger in general that the RC23 remote.
So the BAD thing is that the remote described on this page is not exactly what you will get. The remote I received is not RF capable and does not have a backlit keypad.

  2. this remote is not RF as advertised, it a plain IF and will not work if your receiver is in a cabinet. it came from Antonline. I notified Amanda, their service mgr. she asked for the upc code which i gave her that was weeks ago, so far I have heard nothing. have emailed her and am getting stoned walled. don't do business with this outfit. dshadoan

  3. I ordered this item ANTonline through Amazon. This item says it is a backlite RF reomte but what they sent was a plain RC64 that is exactly like the oem remote that comes in the box. If you really need a RC64RB which is backlite and radio operated I think you will better served to get it directly from directv for $25.00.

AMAZON was impressive taking care of this tranaction. Amazon made this right even though the shipper Antonline refused contact to deal with this issue. Nice job AMAZON!

  4. Save yourself the money if you are a Directv subscriber; the IR remote is $15 and shipped free, the RF remote is $25 and also shipped free. Just order from their site.

  5. If you need RF you won't get it with this remote. I should have gone to DirecTV in the first place. Now I have to deal with a return and get screwed on shipping. DirecTV charges $25 with free shipping and it's the real thing.

5 comments about Hidden IR System - Hide Your AV Component Clutter.
  1. I have a flat screen tv mounted on the wall, and all supporting components in a hutch on the other side of the wall. The Hidden IR takes the signal from any of my remotes and rebroadcasts the signal "through" the wall.

I thought the cables were a little short, but I was able to extend the distance using a couple standard RCA adaptors and coaxial cable (shielded cable). This option is not listed in the manual, but it has worked well for me. Also, you have to point the remote pretty focused on the IR receiver port to get the signal through.

The product comes with an LED light that confirms the signal was received, and rebroadcast. I am only using four of the eight rebroadcast emitters, and it works great.

  2. The product worked almost as advertised, but... the information on the site and packaging says that you can use it on equipment up to 65 feet away, however it fails to mention that you'll need to purchase expensive extension mini-cable (even shopping for a deal it still cost another $50). The IR works well and in the end it met my needs, I just wish they were up front about only having about 12 feet of cable in the box.

  3. I purchased the Hidden IR system to hide all of the boxes and cables supporting our flat-panel LCD TV in a closet - leaving just the screen on the wall. Absolutely one of the coolest man-toys ever. My wife is also very happy that I got all of the cables out of the room. A real win-win.

One comment ... you have to aim very carefully at the IR emitter or it will not pick up the signal. This was a little frustrating at first - but I've now got the right angle down and it works most all of the time. I sit about 12' away from the TV, so it might be much easier the closer you are. However, if you are going to be further away ... something to consider. I took off one star for the aiming difficulty. This is something they should be able to fix.

For those who are actually thinking about doing this ... I thought it might be helpful to also relate how I did it. Not being the handiest guy, I can tell you that cuting holes in the wall of my wife's new house (you know what I mean) was not something that I wanted to enter into lightly. Maybe reading about my experience will lower your fear factor just a bit? I hope so. This really is a simple home project that can be done in an afternoon and well worth it.

    1) Select Location. The cables connecting the TV and the components are usually only a few feet long. So, you want to place the TV on a wall in a place where you can have the components directly behind it on the other side of the wall. Make sure that you can run a cable line there and have adequate power outlets - either via new outlet or extension cord. We happened to have a pantry on the other side of the wall where we wanted the TV, so that worked great for us. There were already shelves at the right height for the components. For power, I purchased an outlet that screwed into the pantry light fixture, and then connected a surge protector for all of the equipment. I realize that some might say this is not an appropriate load for a 15-amp circuit (especially with the 800 Watt surround sound system) -- but it works for me.

    2) Measure Twice - Drill Once. I used a stud-finder ($20) to help find the wall studs for mounting the TV bracket and finding a gap to drill the wallboard holes in. Remember to think about where live-wires might be in the wall when drilling. It would realy suck to hit one! I drilled a small 1/8" test hole first to line everything up on both sides and then came back with a 1 1/2" hole/plug -cutting attachment (easily acquired from Home Depot) to cut the hole through the drywall behind the TV to the utility closet on the other side of the wall. FYI - you might as well save the cut-out circular drywall if you ever need to patch the holes back up. Just butter-up the circle with some spackle and slap it back in the hole. A little sanding and two coats of paint will fix it up good as new. I did think about purchasing wall outlets for all of the connectors - e.g., power, HDMI, etc. etc. However, that would have taken up a great deal of space behind the TV and caused me to cut up a significant portion of the wall, so I passed. I'll leave that level of sophistication for new construction.

    3) Run Cables. I then snaked the cables from the closet to behind the TV through the 1 1/2" hole in the wall and connected everything -- HD cable box, surround-sound recevier, DVD player and a laptop. I also ran the IR receiver through the wall and connected it to the TV using the enclosed velcro strips. I pulled the cable slack back through the hole into the closet for a clean look on the TV. You can only see the wires if you put your head right up next to the TV and look behind. Otherwise, you cannot see them from anywhere in the room.

In the closet, I connected the IR receiver into the amplifier box and then connected the IR emitters to all of the A/V equipment. In order to support the wireless keyboard and mouse for the laptop, I also had to run a USB RF receiver that came with the wireless keyboard set through the wall and velcroed it on the back of the TV.

    4) Power Up. We turned everything on and tried out the IR remotes - they worked. No problems. Same with the wireless keyboard and mouse.

    5) Speakers (the following weekend). I carefully removed the baseboard underneath the TV with a small crowbar. One hint - if your walls are painted with latex paint - score the gap between the baseboard and the drywall with a razor. Otherwise, you run the risk of tearing off some of the drywall paper when you remove the baseboard (learned that one the hard way). Then, we drilled a 1/2" hole to get the speaker wire through ... using a wire coathanger to help fish everything through the wall. We ran the wire around he room to the right spots where we wanted the speakers and subwoofer to be and then cut out space for 'speaker wire boxes' on the wall. I then drilled a small 1/2" hole behind the baseboard at that point and dropped a lead-weighted string down behind the drywall from the new cutout for the speaker box and fished it out of the baseboard hole with a coathanger. Then, we ran the speaker wire up behind the drywall from the baseboard to the speaker boxes and put the baseboard back on. Once connected, we mounted the speakers immediately in front of the speaker boxes. This made for a pretty clean look. There was one spot where there was a horizontal 'blocker' 2x4 between the studs in the wall and my lead-line approach did not work. In that case, I had to make a small cutout in the drywall above the blocker 2x4 and then drilled through it so that the cable could get through. So, an unexpected turn of events requiring a trip to Home Depot for some spackle, drywall and paint. But, no project would be complete without at least a little 'oops' factor.

The net result? I can control all of the devices in the closet from the couch using just two remotes! The only thing on the wall is the TV and small speakers. There are no wires showing anywhere. Very, very cool! With the wireless keyboard and mouse, I can also use the TV for Internet and email access and to control my mp3s. I'm now living in entertainment nirvana.

Hope this was helpful to you.

  4. My AV equipment is right on the other side of the wall from my home theater. I literally had this system up and running in minutes. It works perfectly. I was shocked at how simple it was to install and how well it worked. It's the best price I found on a remote extender.

  5. It's create being able to close up the entertainment center and still being able to use my remotes!

  1. I have two prontos that I have programmed so i am aware of the fancy tricks the pronto can do but
this remote is so easy to use and set up I use it exclusively now.

The buttons work great, you can do macros, Plus it has lots of buttons
which I prefer over finding a image on a touch screen

  2. I bought this as a xmas gift for my husband. We have had a few universal programmable remotes before, none of which really worked. This one is great, no longer am I searching for the receiver, tv, tivo, and dvd remote ...this actually does all the functions of the others!!! It even can be set up to turn on and off the tv and receiver at the same time so you don't have push alot of buttons. It was well worth the money.

  3. Absolutely love it! It was not hard to program and it even works with our projector. I am so glad to have one remote and not five :-)

  4. Great remote.. works thru walls with the receivers can control nearly anything. Can set receivers to only receive your signal so 'interference' from other remotes in the area will not control your 'stuff'. Learning remote will even works with Bang and Olufsen Products (B&O) says this does not happen often as the very high frequency needed to control them.. you just need to go and and 'learn' the commands.

easy to program, learn commands, etc.. easy to clone remotes once you do get one programmed!

also .. customer assistance from universal remote is awesome.. i sent in one that stopped working and they replaced it without any drama.

  5. We purchased a whole new system about 6 months ago. We have a DLP 1080i, cable, receiver, PS3 (also used for Blue Ray discs, X-Box, and Apple I-TV. For the first five months we used the remotes for all of the above seperately and there was only one person in the house who could make them all work. We purchased this Omega and had someone come out to program everything at a charge of $100. It took him 1 1/2 hours to set it all up. We couldn't be happier - it is dummy proof and takes very little instruction to use. We especially enjoy the ease of enabling zone 2 to something other than our main zone uses: example: main zone is watching cable and zone 2 is listening to music on Apple I-tv. It works very well with the I-TV. We do have to use the PS controller to fastforward, play, etc a movie - but it switches the blue ray system over to ready mode. We couldn't be more pleased, but probably saved a lot of frustration by spending the $100 to have a professional set it up.

5 comments about Belkin AV24503 HDMI 2-to-1 Video Switch.
  1. I bought this so I could connect two HDMI sources to my Plasma TV. This product did the trick. It comes with a infrared remote to make the switch, but one added bonus I was unaware of is that it automatically will switch if you turn one of the sources off. If you have two sources that both switch off, (usually a DVR/Cable box you leave on), it will switch automatically. This unit is also very compact. You can conceal it, since the infrared sensor is a separate unit.

  2. I bought this product about a month ago and still can't get it to work well. When I first got it i tried plugging it to my HD cable box and it didn't work, until i played around with the cable and got the picture for a few seconds until I lost it again. Tried plugging in my computer and it wasn't even detected.
Therefore, I had it replaced. Now as I plugged it in, I got the picture - but no sound. I tried the second port and it did work well with sound. Then went back to the first port, and that one also worked now.
Used it for about and hour and it worked well, but then I found out that when I stop using it for a few hours (turn off the tv) and then try to turn the TV back on, I no longer get a picture (black screen - not blue, so it does stay connected), and the only way to get it back is by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable. I wrote to Belkin about it and they just said I should replace it, but after 2 faulty ones I'm not sure a 3rd one will make a difference. Perhaps my cable box uses a greater HDMI version, couldn't find what versions this one supports, but it's very frustrating.

  3. The remote/receiver is useless, works maybe 1 out of 20 times. But it has a push button that works fine. The switching between signals confuses the TV though (maybe that is an issue specific to samsung) and I have to manually reselect the input on the TV when switching from #2 source to #1 source.

  4. I was attracted to the fact that this switcher had a remote control. The packaging and build of this unit seems quite solid and I was impressed. Well....that's about all that was good about it. The switching worked fine, but there was NO audio signal that was transmitted throught the switcher. I returned it and bought another switcher (that was even cheaper!) and while the other brand did not have remote control, it did work flawlessly. So, I do have to get up and go over to the replacement unit (different brand) and push a button. Save your money, do not buy this brand!

  5. Works Great. Simplified selecting inputs greatly. Simple installation. We were up and running in no time. Works just as good as the more expensive switches. The one from RS went back!!!

  1. I love using this TV-B-Gone at Wal-mart. All their TVs are always so loud. I sometimes give it to my grandchildren to shut the Department store TVs off. I have own this product for over two years and carry it all the time. The best part happens when you visit someone home and they don't shut the TV off - I do it for them. I can't use it at my own children's homes because they all know that I carry it. I use it all the time. A retired school teacher...TV-B-Gone Universal TV Power Remote Control Keychain

  2. I was giddy with excitement when this product arrived on a Saturday morning. Like everyone else who got this product, the first thing I did was press the button.

And wouldn't you know it, my TV (regular projector TV, probably 17-inch) immediately turned off--despite the fact that I wasn't even facing it.

Many moons and shopping trips to electronics stores, restaurants and grocery stores later, I've noticed a few things about it.

First, the design. I don't know about anyone else, but the device looked much smaller in the pictures. In my hand, its diameter is bigger than a poker chip and its thickness is a little much. Also, it's very light, which makes me wonder why they didn't bother making it smaller because this isn't an easy thing to conceal during use. The shell is pretty hollow so it makes a lovely clunking noise with all your other keys and nic nacs.

Second, the signal is not that strong. It works almost instantly if you're pointing it directly at a TV within 10ft. Outside of that, it could be a little tricky. I wasn't able to shoot from inside the pocket of my wool winter jacket, but works through my light fleece.

Another thing, this also turns TV's on, so if you're trying to clear out a rack of TV's at an electronics store, you may end up turning a couple on accidently that you've already turned off.

The huge 'but', though, is that when this thing does work--and it really does--you feel like Jesus. My favorite time with it so far was when I turned off a huge HDTV with these two guys playing Guitar Hero at a Best Buy.

I plan on going to the local sports bar with it during an important game sometime. (but that could be a problem since.. it's a sports bar and I don't like wearing a backwards hat)

If you have $20 to spend and love harmless mischief, I'd definitely recommend it.

  3. WOW! This product is amazing. It works on every T.V. I even tried it at school. Tv-B-Gone is a whole lot of fun! Trust me on this, you will enjoy it!

  4. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1S6R54OCZ3V2L Here's a video of me using the TV B-Gone on a Panasonic Television.

I've used it on only three tv's at home so far.. On/Off Times below.
    1 Second -Panasonic
    2 Seconds -Samsung
    1 Second -Westinghouse

Turns on and off tv's, does the job great so far.

It mute's my ipod sound system for some odd reason, but that's the least of my worries.

Longest range so far has been 25-30 Feet and worked fine on the Samsung.

Shipping was excellent and quick from Orion Telescopes, I totally recommend this product to anyone wishing to have fun.

  5. Works as advertised...but unfortunate that infrared doesn't work through glass...would be great to turn off the tv from outside the house.

  1. Buttons feel like they should. From the feel of this remote it is built for the long term.
One of the easiest to program in learning mode.
    All buttons are backlit!
    A+

  2. My wife complained about all the remotes on her end tables. I bought this for her. I just got done programming it for her and she loves it. Considering how old some of my equipement is I really got a charge out of the learning ability of this remote. I kept my wife in the room so she could pick out which button on the remote did what she wanted. I took me about an hour but it was time well spent. I truely recommend this for the husband who is techno savvy with a wife that isn't.

  3. I hoped this product would give me some level of convenience dealing with the multi remote environment. No such luck! It is impossible to duplicate the functionality of my cable remote - at least for me. I have a Masters degree in technology but no amount of patience and time could make it worthwhile to try to program this cryptic device to easily control my system. Too good to be true - yes. It seems to work but is no shortcut to a better environment to enjoy HD/Surround-sound etc..........

  4. After using the higher end URC Remotes and programming for customers, I thought that the RF20 would be a perfect solution for a cheap & easy to program remote.

Programming started out easy, setting up each device was a simple task. Getting each onto the remote was quite simple. But thats when the simplicity came to a screeching halt! When trying to customize the remote with different labels and trying to macro program the remote, it turned out to be one of the most difficult programming jobs that I have ever faced!!! After spending 4 hours at the customer's house, I was more frustrated than ever!!!

The company needs to update the processes in order to get simple macros programmed into the remote. For example: The power on macro works, but when I tried to set up certain switching between devices macro, it was impossible to get it programmed.

I would recommend this to someone who owns a very simple setup of a TV & dvd player, but not to someone who owns a receiver switched setup.

  5. I bought this to replace a DISH Network RF remote in our bedroom. But it wasn't until I read the direction book that I found it won't control other RF devices. It requires its own radio receiver. So I returned it. (Thankfully Amazon has a very good return procedure.)

Otherwise, it worked well for the main functions, and the directions are well-written. I have an off-brand TV, (Digital Lifestyles), which didn't have a code number, so I had to program each button individually. Not every function was able to be programmed.

  1. The product is excellent. In my estimation the best on the market.

  2. I used this remote for the first time last week for a presentation and am here looking into buying one. The control, feel, and buttons are great. It feels good in your hand and appears to be reliable.
My only concern is the size of the laser "point" onscreen. It is a bit small. Not bad, but a minor concern.
I had no problems with hitting the "black" button to end the show or to make a point during my presentation. Overall, a solid model.

  3. Works great. 1st time I used it was on someone else's PC. I had to cover for another person and I just plugged in the USB key, and started flipping through slides from across the room. All the keys worked great.

  4. I purchased 3 of the Interlink VP4150 RemotePoint Navigator 2.4's for our department. Faculty love using this. It was a great price and easy to use. I have had one of the faculty purchase one on her own after using the departments. Highly recommend.

  5. I bought this for our department in a large company after a recommendation from another department. The word is spreading about this little gizmo - everyone who uses it loves it. It's simple & gets the job done without hiccups or problems. There are no problems with reliability, either. The folks in our organization who have used it recommend it without reservation.
