1. I have tried a few universal remotes & this is the first one that I could get to operate my Philips DVD player. I had no problem getting it function for my Vizio flat panel TV. But the DVD player once again was a problem. None of the codes provided for a Philips DVD player would make it operate. I finally had to do a manual search to get it to control the DVD player. All of this because the remote for the DVD player had quit functioning. Thus far this remote seems to almost everything the DVD remote would. Some of the function buttons are a little different which makes it a little confusing. Most of this probably stems from the fact that I need to make adjustments & learn where the corresponding remote features are located.
   
   The biggest negatives are that I still have to use my TV remote to adjust the volume; the universal remote won't do it while it's in DVD player mode. I'm not sure if this is common. Also I can't activate the subtitle function without going to the disc menu. These are minor points but they're the drawbacks on the universal remote.
