  1. Pros:
    Looks really cool

    Cons:
Difficult to use - you have to look at the remote to use the buttons (don't underestimate what this means while you're watching TV)
    Battery life is HORRIBLE!!!

I tossed mine and bought a Logitech 670 that I love.

  2. I bought this when my Logitech Harmony 659 decided some buttons were worn out and would not work any longer (channel, menu, exit). Made my life miserable and frustrating after spending $130 for the Logitech remote.

I made a wise choice and changed back to this great company's One For All remote line. We have all used their products for years, even new electronic equipment manufacturers use their products and rebrand them as their own.

I love this Kameleon remote. It accepted all my codes and all the functions work great. The price was a lot less than the Logitech Harmony, too, even with the 2 year extended warranty I bought.

It looks cool, works flawlessly and even knows when you want to use it, with an internal motion sensor that turns the screen on when you pick it up!

About the motion sensor: It lights up the screen when the remote is picked up or even lightly bumped, which wastes battery power. I rest mine on my chair armrest, and it would light up every time I moved. Even walking across the room would light it up. Battery life is miserable (in the 4 day to 2 week range) with the sensor on. Some internet geeks want you to do surgery and remove the sensor, which is not smart! I researched and found a fix to this, used it and will describe it here:

To deactivate the motion sensor, begin at the cable/satellite screen, press setup until setup menu is entered, select the button labled "other" in the center area of the remote screen and input numbers 9-8-5 and the top area will flash 4 times as confirmation, then press home to exit. The motion sensor is now off and the screen can be turned on by pressing the screen anywhere. Reactivation of the motion sensor is done by repeating the same steps.

With the advent of home theater systems and/or multiple pieces of electronic equipment invading our lives, this is THE remote you need to take control of all those items an do as you intended, make your life more enjoyable and efficient!

  3. Some people complain about the battery life in this thing, but i use the 15 minute rechargables from rayovac and it doesn't bother me. Batteries need recharging about once or twice a month - no biggie. It does seem pretty sensitive to motion, it tends to come on even when it's on a solid surface and i walk by about 5 feet away. Overall it's a pretty cool product - i wish it had some more buttons (like delete for the PVR) and i wish macro programming were a bit more accessible/intuitive (still haven't figured that out, but haven't really spent any time at it). I like it, tho - all our stock remotes are in the drawer not getting used any more.

  4. Product does not have the code of my old home theater, new TV and DVD player, called customer service, she downloaded the software (through phone), entered the code..then the remote works like a charm. Now I only have one remote for the whole home theater system.

  5. This remote is awsome, when no other universal remote had a code for my Limited edition Sylvania HDTV i was upset but when i found out that i couldnt even get a universal remote to work wtih my sony 5DVD player/amplifier/ reciever i became ver fustrated i came online to see what u could find for learning remotes and this one hit every key without a problem now instead of fussing around with 4 remotes to get a good HD movie playing with all the sound i just simply use the Kameleon Its awsome and i love its modern look. I only give it 4 stars because after eading some of the other reviews i dont doubt for a second that this remote is going to eat and swallo batteries ... but definatley worth it.

  1. Bought this for a friend that has trouble with anything more complex than a blow dryer :) It took a few trys to get it programmed with the right code for her (really) old Zenith TV but it took me all of about 10 minutes to program. She's happy, I'm happy, were all happy!

  2. I had previously purchased one of these and had no problems. This transaction I bought 4 and not one of them works correctly, ie: the DVD button operates the VCR; I can't change the channel down only up; the book gives a code for a 3 device unit but no instructions for how to program it. I e-mailed them over a week ago and no one has e-mailed me back. Finally for the review I couldn't send this without putting at least one star. I didn't want to put any stars. Why can't I not give it any if it doesn't deserve any?

  3. The package says guarantee to work on all devices... BUT None of the code works for the Toshiba TV I have, its not even one of those exotic brands! contacted the tech support and they said I will have to buy a more expensive remote from their company and MAYBE that will work. Think twice before you buy people!

  4. After such high hopes, I have been nothing but disappointed in this product. At first I could not get it to work with my small Sylvania TV. I tried not only the five codes given in the book, but all of the codes. I could, however, set up the SONY VCR connected to the TV. After sending an email to the company,I received instructions (pretty much the same as the book) to set the remote up. After numerous tries, it worked. However, the remote only works occasionally for the TV, some days off and some days on. It works all the time for the VCR. At least, it was not expensive, but I hate the thought of having to purchase another one and going through the same process again.

  5. Real NIce product for the MONEY!
    easy to read BUTTONS
    exactly what I ordered!
    veryHAPY with this product

  1. I had a hard time for few days to set all my TV, DVD/VHS combo, home theater and cable box
I still am not able to turn on/off and rev./forw. my samsung DVD player!
but for the price it is a great deal since I do not need to have all my 4 remote controllers on my sofa.

  2. I tried several different codes to get it to work on my approx. 3 year old combination DVD player/VCR put it has a lot of trouble switching between the two and running the two. I just got a DVR from Verizon Fios and they gave me an all in one that works MUCH better than this one. I have to say I was disappointed with this. It did work pretty well on my television itself, though.

  3. The buttons on my Toshiba SD-H400 Tivo/DVR/DVD went bad. No way I would get a replacement remote from Toshiba and suffer the same problems again.

One For All has similar remotes, but the URC 6131 has the closest button arraignment, and I heard it was the best one for the job. So I ordered it from Amazon.

    It arrived really quick.

Programming it was the worst part. The codes available in the manual don't operate all the Tivo functions, so I had to program each function myself. The reason for 4 stars.

Otherwise this remote works perfect, and is better than the piece of junk remote that came with the Sd-H400.

  4. This remote is preprogrammed for a Sony SVR2000 Series 1 TiVo!!! No more $75 remotes!! (code=0636)

Another plus is that almost all the buttons are freely assignable.

  5. THIS REMOTE DOES NOT DO WHAT IT SAYS WILL NOT WORK WITH MY SAT BOX

  1. So if you bougth a dash-in pionner radio, you should order this, It's perfect, may be a little big, but that's because it has lots of functions.

  2. Works great with my AvicD3 a bit big but slim, controls radio great. When it comes to CD's I thought I could punch in the actual number on the remote for a certain track cause visualy it leads you to beleive that you can, having a 10 button for selecting double digit tracks on the remote. Well you can't. It does however control my DVD player great! It also does not control any of the MAIN menus or the navigation menus including the bluetooth menu. BUT for the price very satisfied would purchase again!

  3. If you are wanting to purchase this for a pioneer navigation unit, (.i.e., AVIC D2), please reconsider. This remote only controls very basic functions. Useless in my opinion.

  4. The unit is for my Suburban Pioneer DVD unit. Remote works great, looks great, fits perfectly in my top console for use.

  5. control is useful and works well, but we can not handle audio options, and functions from remote cotrol.

  1. If you're used to using a standard Tivo Series 2/3 remote, this one will take a little getting used to. The TV Power and TV Input buttons are below the Instant Replay and Skip buttons instead of in the upper left corner of the keypad, and the Window/Aspect button is moved up to where the TV Power button should be. The slider normally used to switch between controlling 2 Tivos selects between controlling the Tivo and controlling the TV (which means only that the Channel Up/Down button controls the TV tuner when the slider is pushed to the right.) You actually can control two Tivos with this remote but it's complicated; you must reprogram the remote each time you want to switch devices. This product does, however, control the TiVo without requiring you to point the emitter directly at the DVR and all other keys have familiar positions and functions.

  2. This remote was exactly like the one that came with our system. Service was very good from this third party seller and we are very happy.

    Thanks

  3. I bought this not knowing if it would work with my Direct TV Tivo box. It works perfectly, if anything my Tivo seems a bit more responsive to remote commands. This remote is a metallic grayish=silver not the black as pictures.

This was a great value @ $9.99 compaired to prices double that and more on Ebay at the time.

  1. I already had the NGHP ATH-433 RF REMOTE CONTROL EXTENDER 433.92 MHz FREQ which supports one remote. I purchased this so I could have a second remote extended. Works perfect!

  2. This product does exactly what it claims. I replaced two other RF remote extenders with this product and it works with any of my four different remotes. Even through walls.

  3. I almost ordered this additional IR transmitter but since this ships from a different vendor it may be better to go ahead and get the entire second unit instead, like I did, if you know what I mean. This way you get the backup receiver unit as well. Hint.

  1. I've had this remote for my system for over four years and I love it. My toddler loves to hurl this thing and it keeps right on ticking. Something is rattling inside of it from abuse but it works like a champ. I love the ability to customize it when I have new ideas for macro's.

you just can't beat having a single remote sitting on the couch.

    enjoy.

  2. Universal Remote Control MX-500 10-Device LCD - great little unit for the price. Had difficulty learning a few of the commands from other remotes.

  3. Nice unit, but not nearly updated enough to make it easy to set up systems with. A nice basic universal.

  4. I own several of these remotes as they are so awesome! I hope they will alwys keep manufacturing this model!

The main positive is that the most important buttons are imeediately at your disposal and has an essential LCD to program those unique buttons every crappy device remote seems to have.

The buttons have a great, sturdy tactile feel with button numbers that WON'T rub out after a short time (unlike other famous much more expensive glitzy models).

The only thing I wish this remote had was a hibernation feature where the LCD goes off after a certain amount of time (left to the user's discretion). This would save a HUGE AMOUNT of battery life! Battery life is still OK at about 5 months of constant daily use, but it could be so much better at over a year if they implemented this feature which even cheapo LCD units have. Thank goodness for cheap batteries at Costco!

In addition, I wish it had a battery meter. You never know when the batteries are running out. Only when you get to the point where you have to press buttons several times do you get the hint that it's not the unit that's failing you but the batteries.

Other than than that, the unit is solid and a near perfect efficient combination of hard buttons and LCD usefulness!

  5. I found the MX-500 easy to program and love the macro capibility. The pre-programmed modes are okay for a start but the learn mode was nice to fill in the specific features needed. I am operating my surround sound 7.1 receiver, hdtv, dvc and vcr without any problems. I have not tried smaller devices but it looks like it would operate just about anything.

5 comments about Apple Remote Control for iPod (White).
  1. This unit has a Menu button that does not function with the iPod. In fact, this remote does not allow you to navigate on the iPod at all!

If you were expecting a remote control for your iPod keep dreaming. The fact that Apple would attempt to sell this item to iPod owners is shameful.

  2. This remote, along with the Apple Universal Dock required for my Ipod classic offers very restricted control of the Ipod.

You cannot use it to select any videos, music, photos or any other menu of the Ipod.

You have to use the Ipod click wheel for everything except volume up and down, play or pause, and forward or reverse a pre-selected playlist or video.

I was planning to replace my 300 disc CD player with the Ipod, but not anymore. I have much more remote control of the CD player then the Ipod ever offers, including on / off, select any disc.

  3. This product is very good especially for lazy people because you don't even have to move to adjust the volume or change the song playing on your mac!!! It's wonderful! All my friends are jealous that their pc's don't have remotes!!!!

  4. First of all I bought it knowing that the menu button does nothing with the Ipod Classic 80G, second I already had the Universal Dock when I bought it. Ok having that In mind the remote does what it is supposed to do, fast forward, rewind, play/pause, volume and that's it.
It looks good and does what I need of it.

  5. Okay look. Lots of people say "NOO" to this product, but you have to know what it's purpose is! I just recently bought a MacBook, and in the instructions, it always talked about the Apple Remote. I found that this was the remote, and the "For iPod" actually means "for all mac products with an IR port" It DOES work. Maybe not perfectly, because it's an IR (infra-red). but well enough to be able to move through music, video and even powerpoint presentations with ease from across the room! Last I checked, that's what they said it would do. It DOES work with the Universal Dock. And especially well with the MacBook and MacBook pros. If this is what you want from a remote. Buy this one!

5 comments about Streamzap PC Remote Control.
  1. I bought this b/c I hooked up my pc to my tv and I'm really happy w/it. it controls pretty much everything (ie: Winamp, WMP, Powerdvd) and you can also use the arrow keys to function like a mouse. Installing the software and getting it to work was pretty easy (I have Vista). Overall, I think it's a pretty good pc remote!

  2. I purchased this remote for my SageTV computer. When the software worked it worked quite well. The 4 color buttons can be assigned to do anything including batch files. However, multiple times per day the StreamZap software would crash and stop working making me get up and use the attached mouse to acknowledge the error and restart the software. It appears that the software is not well supported by looking at their web site. I contacted the tech support email and did receive a response but no resolution (or even an attempt at a resolution) to my problem. I would not recommend this product.

  3. If you want to control over 100 different PC audio players (i.e. Winamp, Window Media Player, JetAudio, Foobar, etc) without sitting right in front of your monitor, the StreamZap does this very well. Installation is a snap, the infrared receiver that plugs into an available USB port is small, and the device is easy to configure with the included software. Four function buttons along the bottom of the remote can be setup to automatically launch programs. You get the basic controls of Play, stop, FF, REW, volume, etc. Navigating the pointer on screen with the StreamZap is possible, but rather clunky. My suggestion is to setup playlists. Trying to navigate files and folders with the cursor via the remote can be frustrating.

My only concern is that StreamZap is not actively updating its software as audio applications evolve to newer versions. My one instance with tech support was less than stellar with a suggestion that I look into downloading an application called LM Remote ([...]) to add functionality beyond StreamZap device drivers. Not a big confidence builder.

Overall, the StreamZap is a very good value. Once you figure out how to best utilize the remote, it is a real pleasure to use. When I am in the leather recliner with my headphones on, the StreamZap allows me to navigate through a playlist without ever having to get up.

  4. I found several issues with the remote/software combination. I tried to solve them with the Girder add-on and found issues there as well. The first and most serious issue is that the software is designed to be compatable with specific versions of applications. This means that when a new version of an application is released, it will take several months for the next release of the StreamZap software to become compatable. Althougth Girder can be used to create new commands, it takes a long time and expert level knowledge to complete. In addition, the Girder software is a driver between the StreamZap and the application intended for control. This adds unacceptable delays between the time the button is pressed on the StreamZap and the resulting control of the application. This becomes a significant issue using the pause function.

The second issue is the driver (.sys) that is used with XP Pro. Every once in a while, it will hang (Blue Screen of Death) the computer during a restart. I found that disconnecting the USB IR device during restarts will eliminate the issue. This is very bad for anyone that is thinking of remotely restarting XP Pro. One hung start and you are stuck without support until you get home.

The third issue is with a lack of programmable keys. The four pretty color keys at the bottom can only start executables, batch files, etc. or place the remote in "mouse" mode. If the "mouse" mode were more advanced, it might be of use. The mouse mode does not include "scroll wheel" simulation or mouse special function button compatability or the ability to simulate keyboard keys. In many cases a new Loghtech RF mouse with lots of special function buttons will out perform the StreamZap and can simulate keyboard keys. The only thing missing from the Logitech advanced mice is the nice "TiVo" like shape of the StreaZap.

  5. This is simply the best supported remote on Linux, pretty much any software project that allows the use of a remote will have at least the streamzap supported out of the box.

Apart from that it's also incredible value for money, just consider that building your own IR receiver would probably set you back 30$ just in parts. And that's without the remote.

Also note that you can use any IR remote you want with the included receiver, in case you've got your eye on a regular universal remote.

5 comments about Philips PM3S 3-Device Big Button Universal Remote Control.
  1. I bought this thinking that it would be a good replacement for the multiple remotes hanging out in the living room. I am disappointed that after a few months the buttons have stopped working correctly. You have to reeeeaaally push down on them to get them to work.

Skip this remote. Invest in something with more quality.

  2. very good doe's not work as many as the eight function one but it will work nice at the hunting camp.

  3. I got a Philips 6-device universal remote that looks a lot like this 3-device controller, for use with an Emerson EV818 vcr, and it does the job, although it took some fiddling around. I went through all the Emerson-vcr-specific codes, and couldn't find one that did the trick, so knowing that it was actually manufactured by Daewoo, I decided to try those codes. It was the last code, naturally. Then, I had to figure out which buttons perform the various functions (it was fairly intuitive), but it was easier than returning the thing and spending a lot more for the exact replacement. Hopefully you can extrapolate to your situation from that, but I'm not going to try to generalize. Just be prepared to fiddle with it for a while to figure out whether it will work for you.

  4. I bought this remote to replace a very cheap Radio Shack remote. After using it for a day, I'm putting my batteries back in the Radio Shack remote. We watch a lot of DVDs, and the DVD controls are terrible. In order to use the DVD menu controls, you need to press a 'menu in/out' button. Once you press this, the controller light starts flashing, and it gives you a certain amount of time to make your selection. In other words, if you think your kids are going to use this to pick through the menus on their DVDs, think again.

  5. I like this remote a lot. It's not bulky, it's simple, has all basic functions, easy setup, and couldn't ask for more.
