- I have spent a ton of money on all those fancy and expensive universal remotes but now for half the price or less this remote leaves them all in the dust. No more switching my satellite to the guide and fumbling through 200 channels to see whats good enough to watch. Now I can simply glance at my remote and go directly to any channel. I also get the weather forecast for my local area, the news, sports news, specials at Amazon and I can even play minesweeper on the remotes display LOL.
If you're looking for a new remote you don't need to look any more trust me buy this remote. The only remote that comes close to this one is the new Philips Pestigo SRU 8015 (and I also have that one).
- I decided to buck the trend and skip the Harmony remotes for this one. All my friends have Harmony remotes, and they're fairly awesome. This one was $50 cheaper, and I was really enticed by the wifi aspect.
I've been sorely disappointed so far.
Setting up my TV took way more effort than it needed to be. Whereas the Harmony remotes are configured on the web, where they have a nice database of model numbers and pictures you can check with, the AR remote simply does what every other universal remote does -- it has a catalog of "codes", and you have to pick the one that appears to work. On the up side, these codes are automatically available on the remote, you don't have to keep entering codes, you just arrow left and right through the list, and then try out the buttons for each one. You also get to see what buttons are supported natively, so you when you're programming your cable remote, you can skip the versions that don't have the PVR functions your cable box has.
Unfortunately, there isn't any good explanation for what the buttons actually map to. I have a hi-def TV with five inputs, plus two antennas. The only button that showed on list was "input", and that button on the remote only switched between the two antennas. It was only after I gave up that I found out it could properly switch to the other inputs, but only as "soft buttons" (using the menu on the screen to choose those functions). Once I figured that out, it worked fine. But then I moved on to my cable box.
The cable box is a Motorola, from Comcast. There were only three options for "Comcast" cable boxes, and only one appeared to have the features matching mine. There are 13 Motorola matches, and a handful matched. Somehow, I don't know how, but the channel up/channel down buttons now skip channels 2 at a time. I can't channel up from channel 3 to channel 4, it goes from 3 to 5.
Of course, I only found that problem after I spent a boatload of time trying to figure out how to tell the remote *not* to scroll through the channel listings on its screen, but just let me try to channel up and channel down on my own (I'm a pro TV surfer). I never did figure out how to do that -- I "solved" it by simply telling the remote that I have no guide data.
I've also been stymied by the fact that there are no page up/page down buttons. For a modern universal remote, it seems crazy that there are no page up/page down buttons -- they exist on my regular cable remote, and I use them constantly. I could train the buttons, but I still have no physical buttons to map them to.
And I still haven't been able to get it to turn my XBox 360 on and off, even after supposedly "training" the power button. Since I use that as my DVD player, that's almost a deal killer right there.
Keep in mind, I'm a software engineer. I'm used to monkeying with devices like this, and I'm used to archaic user interfaces and such, so if I say I can't figure out how to get around the guide and simply channel up/down on the cable box, it means it's definitely not obvious.
I'm fairly disappointed. The wifi aspect is pretty cool, because being able to check out sports scores and such on the remote while I'm watching a movie. If I lived with someone, I could easily see the benefit of being able to surf the channel listings without interfering with someone else watching TV (or watching a movie, playing a game, etc).
But when it comes down to being able to really use the remote as an adequate substitute for my existing remotes, it's really falling flat. The lack of page up/down buttons is a serious oversight these days, and the automatic downloading and switching of "codes" is helpful, but it's just not the innovation offered by Harmony.
I'm going to play with it some more, see if I can't get it to work with the devices I have. I'd probably be considered a "power user", though, so my disappointment may be that it doesn't satisfy my niche uses. But for $200, I'd expect something much more akin to the Harmony remotes.
- This is a good remote. Because of the wireless feature you can see the channel guide on it's screen. Easy to set up. Only flaw is that this is a rechargeable remote and if it dies you have to reset the thing. Not a big hassle but something you have to be aware of.
- Awesome, awesome and then some. Was a Harmony guy after hunting and hunting for the right one, thought I found it till I stumbled on this remote. I don't see Logitech going wifi and wifi really puts this over the top as far as I'm concerned. Weather, messaging, games geez it's beyond a smart remote it's more like a smart phone for your electronic devices.
Get it ,it's worth it.
- Very disappointing. Out of the box, the control could not handle 1) my cable box, 2) my audio processor, 3) my Blue Ray Disk player. Honestly, a complete waste of money for me.

- 2 complaints: first, this thing comes in one of those plastic cases that are nearly impossible to open without cutting yourself...only to find out when you DO open it, you've cut through the instructions book.
Second, it lists many brands that it supports on the back of the package (in our case CyberHome) that are really NOT supported (upon looking through our newly taped together instructions manual, CyberHome is not listed where they give the codes)! So then we used their alternate method for finding codes not listed. Didnt work. So dont trust their claims that this thing has a huge code library. Obviously it doesnt, and obviously they have no problem with false advertising...who knows what else they claim this thing will do, but it doesnt? So dont let your team spirit get in the way of a getting something that actually will work for you!
- This remote has all the options I need to operate my TV, DVD player and cable box. It was very easy to set up all my devices. Buttons are easy to see and use. And of course I love the fact that it has the University of Tennessee colors and logo! After I got this one for myself, I reorder 2 more for gifts and they love theirs also!

- I purchased this off Amazon. Including tax and shipping the total was close to $40. When I received it and found it did NOT work, I tried getting an RMA to return it. I was told that I would have to pay for shipping. So for something that does NOT do what it advertises I have to fork over at least $10 in shipping. I will never do business with this company again. And if you want a good remote do not buy this one from Brookstone.
- I actually purchased a 'knock-off' of this remote at our local discount retailer (Marc's,cleveland, Oh) for 5.99.
It's AWESOME! The kids can't stick it in their pocket, it won't fit down in the sofa or under it either.
I had to have my teen son program it, but it works great and the buttons glow in the dark.
No manufacturer's name on it and it's labeled JUMBO Universal remote.
- Doesn't work with Scientific America cable box. This is the box that Time Warner uses. They're all over the place, one of the most popular cable boxes. Remote's manual had 4 codes for it and 2 worked somewhat. It only changes channels and turns unit on and off. Doesn't let you control volume or anything else. What a piece of garbage. I also have a VIZIO LCD TV. Vizio has been around for years but this thing doesn't even have them listed in the codes list. This remote must be a hundred years old. Even auto search won't get it to work. Go burn your money, you'll enjoy it more than this garbage.

- For the hippest of hip, the first-adopterest of first adopters, snap this up (if you list it on your own associates account, you can save an extra $80,000. When was the last time you saved yourself 80 GRAND?) This is a must-have remote.
Comes with free 3-5 day shipping, natch.
- This thing works pretty well. The only thing that kept it from getting the 5th star is the remote can not pair with apple computers. I guess it can pair with Apple TV but that doesn't help me. The convenience of always having the remote with the macbook pro makes up for it not being able to pair with the computer.

- I opened it up. I read at a hack site about the vibe sensor tied to little bb's in a 1 inch x .25 inch little silver colored box. I carefully pried it open from the one side where it is is black plastic and out popped two little bb's. I removed them and reassmebled the little box and the unit and now the lights only go on when I hit a button. They stay on for about 5 seconds and a few of the buttons are a little darker now, but I don't care. Battery life is a lot longer now and the unit works like a champ. Can't do anything about the tactile feel, but it's ok, I'm used to it now.
- I bought this remote because I got sick of switching between 5 different remotes to work my complicated TV setup. It looks great, worked fine, and I loved the way only the buttons for the device I was using lit up but the batteries died every few weeks because the motion sensor went off and turned the thing on with the littlest bit of stimulation. A great idea but unless you have stock in Energizer you may want to choose a more traditional remote.
- Works Fine and lasts a long time. The only problem is it has the option to light up the keys when you pick it up, but it will do this from any vibration near to it which cause it to light up the keys even when not being used which runs the battiers down sooner!
- I've had this remote for over 2 years and it's working as well as day one. haven't replaced the last set of batteries in over 6 months and there's still no sign of them dying. The macros work well, the "coolness" factor hasn't worn off, and the screen is very bright.
- I purchased the Kameleon 8 9964 from Netdirectbargains. Great Value, proper shipping and on time.
This is a very good remote and works very well, Why pay $350 for a IR-RF controller from Logitech? Some reviewers said it does not work. Mine works as stated. Both the IR and RF sides even with attached Blaster. As this is a unit developed a few years back, it will need an upgrade for newer equipment. The Customer Service phone desk at One for All, were very helpful, and very polite. They answer the phone in the United States. The controller can be upgraded over the phone or even from a WAV file emailed to you. A simple task. I would say the controller is missing one button needed for HDTV and that is the hyphen (-) to enter a HD channel like 5-1. This is easy to correct by programing one button as a hyphen. Be sure to ask the One for All customer service to email you all the advanced codes for all your equipment as there will be some special codes you may want to enter for complicated equipment like DVR's and PVR's. There has been some bad rap that this controller is a battery eater. I would recommend to turn off the vibration control and adjust the brightness of the screen and amount of time the controller screen stays on. Anyhow I would not complain about a battery cell that cost $.50 when gas is over $4.00/gal. Stay home an watch TV and this controller will save you money.
For the money of $35 you get a great controller and RF. The Next Generation Remote Control extender cost the same, but will only work with one controller. You have to spend an extra $30 for additional transmitters for each remote you have.
I don't under stand why One For All has not updated their equipment offering in the past few years. Let's hope with the new Audiovox agreement they will.
A nice addition would be to add a USB port to allow remote programing with you computer, but I am happy with what I have for my $35 fee.
