  1. This projector is smaller than I expected and really displays great pictures, even on dark walls. Love the wireless and PC less capability. Very impressed so far.

  1. This projector is superb in brightness and flexibility given the extra range in zoom. We use it in ECO mode and find it plenty bright even with the windows unshaded in midday. It is great for iphoto, presentations, & quicktime given the higher res than many sub $1000 projectors. Good color and looks great even projected on a white wall. It has a mini D-sub (RGB) cable and a video connector, so nothing fancy. The only thing is it is somewhat noisy, but when there is action and the volume is pleasurably loud it isn't noticeable much. The remote is intuitive, as is the menu/options. It is a sleek, thin machine. I would give it 4.5/5 stars.

  2. Size: Same as the small Sony Vaio 11.1" screen computers but a bit thicker. Projector fits into my attache case carry-on bag next to my small Sony Vaio computer.

Keystone is automatic. The projector senses the lift angle and compensates. The projection is perfectly rectangular. My previous projector often showed a trapezoid picture.

The cable is VGA/VGA not VGA/DVI so if a a wire breaks in the cable (resulting is a yellow, blue, etc. picture), you can easily find a replacement.

Flip-up lens cover. When you are switching shows, you can hide your work and cover the projection with the lens cover. Nice.

TSA. Due to the shape, airport Security will assume the projector is a computer and require it be separately screened. So, you will have to remove it from your carry-on bag for screening with your computer.

The projector has more lumens than comparable units and runs hot; the lamp is rated at just 2,000 hours.

I am an author on speaking tours. I fly more than 6,000 miles/week. I appreciate a projector that is reliable, low volume, low weight and sets up quickly.

Sexy. This projector will turn heads.
    (:

  1. I bought this projector in December and am very pleased with the quality of the product. It does everything it is advertised to do, including a decent job of projecting DVD movies. It has been a real asset to my teaching.

    [...]

  2. I use it in school and it does a great job.
It is very bright and lights do not have to be turned off to see it, plus it is very easy to connect to the PC, speaers, or Video projector. I like the fact you do not need a PC to use the unit.
I connected my PC and DVD both worked fine.

I did have a small problem and tech support was excellent

    2 disappointing things
    1. You must use the remote (IR) to turn the lamp off
If you do not use the remote to turn off the projector
the projector does not go through a cool down mode which
will affect the life of the lamp.

    2. DLP is the newest technology but the colors are not as good
    and accurate as LCD projectors

  3. I like very much this product, only problem that is a big dimention, but to use fixed not problem.

  4. This projector met my expectations. For the price it was the best deal. I have a large living room but do to the shape and layout a 56 to 60 inch TV would hinder the movement in and out of the room because it would stick out 2 feet. By using this projector I not only keep the 2 feet but I can also move this unit at any time with very little effort. It also can project much wider than 60' and there are no bad seats in the room. I have had no problems with it as of yet, and do not forsee any problems in the future.

  1. This projector is the perfect tool for my teaching presentations. The colors are bright, it has a great resolution image and the menu is easy to handle and understand. Although it is very light I wish it were a little bit smaller.

  2. Bought this projector for a home theater in Feb of 2006. Am just now buying a replacement bulb. Not sure how many hours we put on it in the past 17 months but I am sure it's a lot.

What's so nice about this projector? It has two levels of brightness and both are much quieter than the old projectors I am used to.

  3. This is the best projector I have bought and used. The price was excellant for the superior quality and ease of use. I highly recommend it.

  4. i use this product in my office and it works just fine. the seller was pleasant to deal with always updating us on the progress of our order.

  5. PURCHASE YOUR EPSON PRODUCT THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER OR FROM EPSON DIRECTLY.

This is not a review of this product, but rather a word to the wise... Two and half months after my purchase of an Epson 10000XL scanner through Amazon, it stopped working. Through the followup and tech support process I learned that, because I purchased through Amazon, the manufacturer nor the seller would honor the 1 year warranty. Epson's position is that Amazon is not an authorized seller and that they merely act as broker for what can often be re-furbished or second hand merchandise.

So, should your purchase break or malfunction, as mine did, you are out of luck with regard to warranty.

    This lesson cost me $2400.00

  1. The BenQ w500 home theater projector truly lived up to my expectations of how movies and HD television should be experienced. Upscaled DVDs look incredible and although LCD technology can't quite reach the black levels of DLP, it by no means detracts from my enjoyment of this projector. My home theater seating is approximately 11 feet away from 108" diagonal screen with the only notable "screen door effect" (visible pixels) showing up with some text, although I think that may also be the result of mpeg compression artifacts. Besides the outstanding value this proector offers in upfront cost, the replacement bulbs are considerably less expensive than competing projectors in this segment. As with all home theater projectors you do need to control the room lighting for the best viewing experience, but I would not hesitate to highly suggest the BenQ w500 make your short list when in the market for a home theater projector.

  2. bought the projector, find out it shuts down for no reason for random amounts of time. Tried to swap it for a working one, but Tiger Direct would only let me return it and buy a new one- and oh by the way it costs 10% more now! I'm not happy to be penalized for having bought a defective machine. Pursuing this with BenQ now.

  3. Pros:
    1. Great Contrast.
    2. One of the least expensive projectors with lens shift.

    Cons:
    1. Not the brightest projector out there.
    2. Only has a 2000 hour bulb.

Consider the Mitsubishi HC1500 or the Panasonic PT-AX200 instead and be sure to read my reviews on them too.

Hope this helps get your RealHomeTheaters off the ground!

  1. I purchased this projector for use for small business presentations. I was very impressed with the resolution and brightness. I recently loaned it for a movie presentation at a small (120) seat theatre where the brightness and quality (projected to a 12' screen) was judged by all to be very good.
