  1. was cool for a kids surround system. worked for about 6 months before the DVD function stoped working. the radio is EXTREMELY sensitive, i could get stations that were unavailable in any other system i have owned(including CAR!!!) the speakers are weak and the sub is overpowering. After about another month of non-dvd, i was upset and about to buy another system, like a sonybox. I removed the shell and found the broken chip that had burned out. I simply used a eyeglass screwdriver and poked at it untill the dvd would work(took about an hour, but dvd only works untilll unit gets hot, bout 4 hours) in the directions it says not to put anything on top of it(even ps2 or xbox), dont! should work fine then. Anyway, found a cool feature the company installed that allows them to sell the unit in asia too, in the case there is a switch labled NTSC/PAL, you can switch it to pal and play bootlegs, imports, and non-region code dvds! the menu text switched to chinese or japanese or something too....The MP3 menu is confuseing but managable. If you have an older stereo with bigger speakers, i reccomend changing them, the ones supplied are low quaity.

  2. I'M 14 AND YOU SHOULD READ THIS BEFORE THINKING ABOUT BUYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This looks pretty cool but like most items it gets old really fast! There are many things you can do with it and I thought it was really hard to put together because there are so many wires. This system has good sound and it goes fairly loud. If you wanted a a nice system I would not pick this Audiovox. Only get this item if you want a small surrond sytem for your room. It is good for parties and for watching some movies if thats what your looking for.

  3. The fun began right after I took the time to set it up. As soon as I turned it on, viola, noise hum. I disconnected the rca cable first hoping that it was something simple and could easily be replaced. Speakers were next and still there was the hum. You don't need a genius to figure out that with only the electrical cord plugged in, the problem was the player itself. Good bye Audiovox DV1201 200-Watt Progressive Scan DVD Home Theater System.

  4. I guess you get what you pay for. I didn't pay anything for this system, so it was really no lose.

Within a month after setting this thing up, the fan in the box begin to really get loud. Within a month after this, the fan quit working all together. Within a month of that, the whole unit quit.

I now know why Audiovox only has a 90 day warranty on this system. It'll last about 100 days.

  5. Somehow, I remembered Audiovox as a decent brand. So much for memory. This is the worst piece of CR*P ever to darken my entertainment cabinet.
Fortunately, the retailer took it back.
Details: cabinet fan sounds like a jet plane rolling for takeoff. AM/FM reception, what reception. Open your front door and listen to your neighbors system, it'll be better and clearer.
Did I mention this is a piece of CR*P.
P.S. I tried to rate this NO stars, but I was forced to make it one star.

  1. High quality, beautiful picture and awesome sound. The Denon S102 is perfect for the person looking for the absolute best without all the clutter of a 5.1 system and the old looking equipment still on the market today. I am the type of person that researches extensively befor investing into somthing and this system fits my needs perfectly. I paired it up with a Samsung LN-T 4071 and I wanted a clean look to mount on a wall with no wires, stands or a stack of recievers, dvd player vcr etc.. We watch mostly movies dvds and I can honestly say the sound quality rivals that of my 5.1 polk system that was twice the cost. Easy setup took about 15 minuites including taking it out of the box. The first thing you will notice when puting it together is how simple and easy it is and how much attention to detail went into this system. Well worth the cost. In this case less is more... much more.

  2. The Denon S-102 is a great system: It has everything you could want in an attractive, simple, and easy to set-up, package. It plays AM/FM, CDs and DVDs, and the sound is amazing. However, for close to a thousand dollars, one would expect a certain level of quiet in the speakers when switching between functions and low-level DVD watching. Thinking I had a lemon (that made noise), I had a new one shipped to me. But the problem was still there - a 'fluttering' sound coming from the subwoofer that could best be described a combination of distortion and electrical static. Needless to say, I returned both units. I am in the process of looking for a replacement, perhaps of another brand...

  1. This system really came highly rated by several people, and I did not hesitate to buy it based soley on the Bose brand. However, we've had it up and running since August '05 and have experienced problems playing DVDs. Everything else seems to work just fine - stereo radio has normal reception, simulated surround sound is suitable for what we wanted/expected, the CD-to-hard drive transfer and play back is slick and convenient, but movie play back seems to have a mind of it's own.

Almost always right around track 13 of whatever movie we play - either from our own collection or rented from the video store - play stops and the display says either "Unsupported media" or "Cannot Read Disc". And of course I made sure all settings were correct and that we were playing region 1 DVDs.

This unit is going back to the store. Hopefully we just got a bad unit; time will tell...

    !!!!!!!!!!!
    Update:

I contacted the local Bose store and they told me to bring the unit in and it would be looked at and possibly replaced. I did so and the guys there were very helpfull in logging the issue, and opened up a new unit and swapped out my defective one with the new one, saying that my warranty reset and begins that day - nice!

Kudos to customer service for Bose. The new system seems to work just fine so far.

  2. Upon returning home with my new unit from the Bose store, I was immediately confronted with two problems. When locally openning the tray, the system would quickly retract to close. Trying to operate the tray with the remote control revealed the second problem, the remote caused nothing at all to happen - no tray action and no on/off. After trying several times each with a new set of batteries, I called the store. The salesperson asked me to bring in the media center and the remote. Both were replaced from a new set. Since then (one week later) everything has worked beautifully. I especially like the uMusic Intelligent Playback feature. The sound is amazing. Kudos to Bose for both product and service.

  1. Listed below are my thoughts on the S-302 after a week of use.

    Styling
The styling is fair. This is very subjective, but the cabinet does not really look like it should cost $1700. I very much like the compact size. The controls look fine and feel solid.

    Sound
I am not an audiophile, so take this with a grain of salt. I believe the quality of the sound is very good when playing music. The bass was not too deep and the highs were very clear. There was a good separation of instruments on some the jazz recordings. I tested this with various types of music using sources from CD, FM, and MP3 (VBR 165-175 kbps).

    DVD
This is a 2.1 system and to me that is what it sounds like. Watching several movies, I never had the illusion of 5.1. The sound is fine, the sub-woofer did a bit too much shaking of the apartment for my tastes, but this is easily adjustable with a dedicated button on the remote. Occasionally the voices did not seem to come from the correct place on the screen. This could be due to the location of the speakers as they are at the bottom of the screen since the stands are not yet available.

The picture from the DVD is very good. I have the S-302 connected via HDMI connection to my 42" plasma, which is 1080i. The picture is extremely sharp. No noticeable jagged lines.

The memory function of the DVD does not work very well. If you stop the DVD and turn off the unit, it will remember the location when you turn it back on. If you switch to another source (e.g., tuner) and return to the DVD, it starts at the beginning of the movie. Not the menus or the FBI warnings, so it appears that it recognizes that this DVD has not been newly inserted.

    Internet/USB
This unit is equipped with WiFi (802.11b/g) and ethernet network capabilities. I was not able to get the wireless to work. My WPA key contains spaces and I could not figure out how to enter a space in the key. I removed the spaces from my key. I then turned off security. All of these options failed to connect. I then connected the device using a power line ethernet adapter and was able to connect. This connection is not reliable and I cannot tell if it is the adapter or the S-302. Occasionally, when starting the unit, it will try to connect using the wireless. This should occur only when the direct ethernet connection is not present.

The interface for the internet radio is easy to use. The stations are categorized by genre and country of origin. Although you can get to a station with this interface, a search feature would greatly facilitate getting to a known station. The interface for the USB is not so friendly. It is just a directory listing of the USB drive. It would be easier to navigate if it used the ID3 information to group by artist, album, genre, etc.

    Tuner
While the quality of the sound from the tuner is very good, tuning of stations is very frustrating. There are three modes. FM Auto, FM Mono, and AM. When in FM Auto, the unit will not let you enter a weak station. Direct input of the station results in no sound whatsoever. Switching to FM Mono, the station can be entered and listened to. Entering a preset for this will remember which mode it is in, so this is necessary only once. Also, in the FM Auto mode, if a station starts to fade, it just goes out. It is either tuned or not tuned, so it can just keep cutting out. I would rather have static, but to do that I would have to use the FM Mono for all of my stations.

2 comments about Kef KHT2005.2 Five Speaker Plus Subwoofer.
  1. I have been using these speakers with a Denon 1905 receiver since past 1 year and have been more than happy with their performance!!

The five identical satellite-loudspeakers, which are available in black or silver, are equipped with new 19 mm tweeters, which shall make the already very well high frequency range still more brilliant. Also the KHT-2005.2 works with its own principals of UNI-Q of KEF, where the tweeter is positioned in the midrange loudspeaker. KEF is convinced of the solid advantages of this arrangement, as all parts of the membrane of the midrange loudspeaker have been produced in one piece and therefore there are no non-linear distortions at the high frequency reproduction. As only the frequency of the mid-range sound field has to be finished and the membrane deflections of the UNI-Q-driver are so insignificant that practically no distortions at the interaction with the tweeter are occurring.

The frequency response of the KHT-2005.2 is up to 27 kHz. Therefore the system can also be used for the DVD audio- and SACD-operation, on condition that usual requirements are demanded to the total performance. Compared with the predecessor it has been said that the KHT-2005.2 can be constructed and integrated into the home cinema room more easy. A new cable-conduit- and fixing system on the socket of the loudspeaker is making this possible. The sockets, where the satellites can be individually placed, are very high-graded as well as the connecting terminals for the loudspeaker cables. Of course they can be found in the form of a solid screw plug on the back-side of the satellites.

The elegant satellites can also be purchased in single parts. Acoustical advantage of the KEF solution in the 6.1- or 7.1-operation is that at the EX-mode six (at the 6.1-system) or seven (at the 7.1-system) times the identical satellite is used, which provides with a uniform sound picture.

The active subwoofer offers a lot of highlights. It is equipped with a 250 watts power amplifier. It is an extremely strong subwoofer which is capable of working in home cinema rooms with a size of scarcely more than 20 square metres perfectly. The volume as well as the level firmness are also convincing besides the good reproduction of extremely deep frequencies. Everybody can feel that a powerful amplifier is working in the interior part of the subwoofer.

However, also the satellites filled with enthusiasm. At the film sound reproduction as well as in the multi-channel music operation nothing could be criticised. The compact loudspeakers turned to possess a level firmness far above the average. In the meantime a lot of sub-/sat-offers of the known competition are able to handle with higher volume power, however this first-class sovereignty, performed by these KEF-satellites, can be found very seldom. Also outstanding values of the loudspeakers could be achieved at the assessment of the offered brilliance and dynamics. Clearly, precisely and quickly the KHT-2005.2 manages a varied surround-sound field and an homogeneous front sound scenery. The reproduction of voices is surprisingly clear. Only at high volumes it can be noticed that some housing volume is missing at the boxes.

For a really fair purchasing price the KHT-2005.2 offers an optimum of sound quality and finish. Especially good: The developers of KEF succeeded in exceeding its already very good predecessor practically in all disciplines.

  2. KEF KHT2005.2 is the later model of KHT series and it is going to be replaced by KHT3005. That's why the price is dropped a lot especially the silver color. It was around $1,500 few years ago.

Whoever is considering to buy home theater sattelite speaker (especially who are considering BOSE), you must listen KEF KHT2005.2. Is it your taste? Well..you will decide by yourself. But you will be regret if you don't listen 2005.2 before making decision.

My friend who are serious amature of audiophile more than 30 years came to my home and listen to this set. His comment is "best satelite speaker for music I have ever heard".

I have a chance to listen to KEF KHT3005 and I accept that it is really wonderful. But I am pretty sure that the quality of 2005.2 is not different to 3005 in small room (like 9x9 feet). But now you pay only one third of 3005. However, if budget is not your problem, you go for 3005. It absoultely beats all BOSE's satelite system and many famous bookshelf speakers in the market.

At $500, you can even take it and consider later if it is limited supplying.
