  1. Great low price system. I am using it in a medium sized living room setup and it just perfect. I dont have to turn up the volume level very high to get a perfect sound level so I think it would sound good in larger rooms. The only slight downside would be the bass. The non-powered subwoofer doesnt exactly produce massive sound. However it is the perfect amount for my apartment, just note that if very loud bass is important to you, I would check outh the HT-S700, it has a larger subwoofer and wattage.

  2. I knew for $275 this wasn't going to be the best home theatre system ever, but expected a descent system from Onkyo. The reviews were so-so and when I first installed the system I thought it was good for the money but not the best I had ever heard. I have digital (Comcast) cable and many stations are broadcast in HD and DTS digital sound. I had friends over for the Superbowl 2008 and watched it in HD and Digital Surround Sound. I gotta tell you, when Tom Petty came on at half time, I set the volume at 75 and I could have sworn we were at the show..........in the front row. My friends were just as impressed as I was. It blew us all away. The only bad thing about it is that it was Brets last game. I'll miss you Bret.
My family room where the system is installed is 14 feet wide and 25 feet long. Not a huge room but a good size for this system I would say. It took some tweeking of the settings, and I would not recommend this system to someone that isn't willing to (play) with the controls a little. There are a lot of parameters you can adjust and it took some research on the internet (and talking to friends) for me to get it tuned in. Onkyo ROCKS!

  3. We purchased this product to use primarily for movies/tv/video games/etc. and I must say I'm very pleased with it. It is also a very attractive setup as well. I do use it for listening to music sometimes (and it's fine for me) but I can see how a previous reviewer who bought it to replace his stereo system was disappointed though. If you're looking to use it for bumping loud music and the like, it probably is not the right choice. All in all for the price I would say it is a great system though. I'd definately recommend it.

  4. The speakers are outstanding for the room I'm using them in. The software for sound seperation and reproduction suits my ears to a tee. Overall I'm very pleased with performace for the price.

  5. I just picked this sytem up yesterday at Fry's Electronics for $153.00. It was supposed to be on sale for $191.00, I'm not going to argue with an additional $38.00 savings.

Set-up was a breeze and it sounds great. I hooked it up differently than they instructed for using a: Cable Box, DVD Player and a TV. As I have HDMI cables from my Cable Box and DVD Player to my Plasma TV. This is how my Plasma TV said to connect (RCA Cables from The Home Theatre OUT Connections)

You can't beat the sound for $153.00 !!!

  1. Great system if it worked properly. Our first receiver would play the sound and video out of sync and would take forever to load one time and load it right away the next time. We exchanged the first one and it worked a little bit better but would make a loud humming sound, and would skip randomly for no reason with brand new media. Everybody seems to love samsung but we've had bad luck with this brand. Had a camera that died right after the 30 day warranty was up. We took the system back to the store and will never buy this brand again no matter how nice it may look.

  2. I was looking for a unit in this price range that sounded as if it delivered...and the Samsung HT-X70 delivered! The sound and picture quality is excellent! It's plenty adequate for my medium sized living room.
This sleek looking unit is easy to hook up and operate. It's true that the speakers (front R/L & rear R/L) are a little top heavy if set on the floor. However, they are easily wall mounted (they have mounting slots on back) which I did, and the added height also makes the sound more effective. One drawback is that the receiver only has one optical audio input, but this was overcome with an optical audio switch.
In the few weeks we have owned the X70,we have been enjoying watching our DVDs the way they were meant to be seen and heard, also it has been great listening to the stereo FM tuner.
This unit may not have huge speakers and all the adjustments in the world, but for the price you can't beat it. I recommend the
    Samsung HT-X70 Home Theater System.

  3. This was the first home theatre system I have owned, and did not know what to expect for $300. I bought a 50" Samsung Plasma and saw that this was recommended and took the gamble. I was not disapointed, the sound is great for our 20 x 15 room. I replaced the rear speakers with in ceiling speakers and placed the center and front speakers by the TV, and the sound is very good for my untrained ear. Very good for the price.
My only real complaint is when switching the TV and receiver on together, the receiver directs the sound to the TV rather than the receiver, but two remote button pushes resolves that problem.

  4. Ordered this to go with a new Samsung 56" LCD DLP also purchased right here. Easy hookup plus the remotes are the same for both units. To tell you the truth, I have not used it for anything but DVD playback so I don't know yet what CDs will sound like. When we built our home 13 years ago, I recessed 4 Bose speakers high in our very large livingroom and have hooked them up to the HT-X70, along with the center channel speaker and the sub woofer. When watching an action movie with explosions and other warfare sound effects, you can FEEL the sound as much as hear it--it's great! The DVD player makes our regular DVDs really come to life with sharp, vivid images. For $300, I could not be happier with the purchase, plus the shipping was FAST and delivery trouble free! I would not hesitate to use Amazon again---very happy and satisfied with the whole experience.

  5. Great system. It's as advertised. Can't wait to get it set up permanently down in the family room!

  1. Samsung HT-X250T DVD Home Theater System

We have a 50" plasma Samsung and while the TV is great, especially on HD, the sound is not impressive. We own some BOSE products and we really like the sound that BOSE provides. I had my mind set to get a BOSE system and was primarily looking at the BOSE 3-2-1 Series II. However the user reviews were middle of the road. I then began to look on this site for 5 star rated systems and was impressed by the reviews on the Samsung HT-x250. We decided to give it a shot and am I ever glad we did.

The system has a sleek modern style which we like and fits well with the Samsung TV. Installation was a breeze. Color coded speaker connections really help you to sail right through installation. I've never owned a home theater system before but I had this one up and running in half an hour and I was taking my time.

I can use the universl remote for both the TV and the Home Theater System.

Now for the important part. This system just delivers unbelievable sound for the price. I can't imagine why anyone would need a better system. For the first test run I put in "Saving Private Ryan" and watched the D-day beach invasion scene. The sound was out of this world. I have this set up in a fairly small room but I feel certain it would work just as well in a larger room, perhaps better because you turn the volume up a little more. When my wife went out this evening I cranked this puppy up to see what it would do. I got it as loud as I could stand it and couldn't detect any distortion.

You can adjust the volume on the center speaker as well as the balance between the right and left speakers, both front and back. However I'd like to have a little more sound from the rear speakers and I haven't been able to find a way to increase their volume. Now of course I have not read the owners manual so there may be a way to do this. God forbid I actually ask for help with this.

If your looking for a reasonably price Home Theater System I think you'd be very pleased with this choice. Good looks, ease of installation and killer sound.

  2. I am a single component guy who has always gone with the best of the singles so to speak. The system rumbles your innards and if you combine it with a Samsung LCD/Plasma, it will talk with it and become one with it. I have it hooked up to the Samsung 4071 lcd and the experience is incredible for the following reasons...1080p up...you will not believe your eyes...like real life... Clipping? Forget it. I had it cranked all the way and it did not distort or fade...just rocked my world...ease of use with another Samsung product...almost seamless. I only wish it had one more digital audio in to accommodate both the computer and the lcd. I think this has the power to operate pretty effectively in a room up to around 2000 square feet. After that I don't think it will be able to fill it. In our 500 sq ft room size it more than fills the room. Too bad I'm not being paid to tell you this rocks.

  3. This sytem has great sound and seems to be well worth the money. My issue is with the receiver/DVD player that Amazon sent me. I unpacked the system and got all the speakers set up and organized all the wiring, put in a DVD and "Region Error," came up on the screen. After 5 different calls to Samsung customer service I got the tier 2 "specialist." He never heard of the problem but researched it and told me that my DVD player must have been made for the Phillipines and that there is nothing I can do. I am in the process of returning the system and replacing it with one that is hopefully from the US, ridiculous.

  4. After 3 weeks of researching different HTS in a box setups, I decided to go with the Samsung HT X250T, I found a great refurbished deal for 310, so I through it couldn't hurt considering this system retails for close to 600 dollars.
This is the first HTS that I own, so this review is strictly based on an amatuers observation (after doing research like a pro).
I have a Samsung HP T5044 50 inch plasma, and the first thing I noticed was how well the HTS and the TV 'communicated', now I can use one remote control for all my TV viewing needs (well, along with the cable remote).
It took me about 40 minutes to set everything up and connect all the wires, the sound is truly great!
I also have a playstation 3, and a HD cable receiver, so I have my HD cable going through the HTS and to the TV, and my ps3 hooked up to the HTS via a optical media cable.
So far so good, great system, but make sure u find a great deal.

  5. I am EXTREMELY happy with this product. I don't even really have to mention the looks. You can see in the pictures that the design very clean and modern. It's also a plus that it matches by Samsung tv so well.

Now to how it sounds. I've never really had a sound system that processes surround sound so well. When it rains in a movie you can hear every drop. And its all around you! Horror movies are almost freakier than in theaters. When someone's coming to getchya from behind...it really sounds like someone's coming to getchya from behind. Makes your skin crawl for real. And thats exactly what I was looking for since I love horror movies.

Music is incredible as well. If i set it on Matrix and get the sound coming out of all five speakers, its amazing.

My only complaints are that you cant change the sound setting when you're watching a dvd...though maybe Im just dumb and haven't figured it out. And I just bought a mounting kit and the mounting holes are so tiny that it doesn't work. Could just be that it was a cheap mounting kit!

I got a great deal on this on Amazon. It's pricy for sure but well worth it for how great it looks and sounds.

  1. I purchased the HT-SP904 as part of a recent home theater upgrade. Overall the sound is excellent and the upscaling DVD player is a nice addition, but I really wish the HDMI was not limited to passthrough. Basically, any HDMI device plugged in to the receiver will need an alternate audio connection for full surround output. This is very strange considering the HDMI out passes the sound to the TV without issue. Why they couldn't they pass the sound to the receiver and surround speakers is beyond me. Despite this issue, the system is fairly easy to set up and work with. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a mid-range system as a new addition to their AV setup.

  1. What detered me from purchasing it's brother system, the HT-TX75, was that the wireless rear speaker module was included. The setup is very simple. The wireless rear speaker module means no more tripping over or trying to hide wires. The woofer puts out quality bass. Earlier today, I put in a cd and put the volume on 32. My neighbor from 2 HOUSES DOWN asked me to cut it down. The 5 disc changer makes it easy to enjoy a day of watching movies. The system is also has an ipod/mp3 dock as well as one for XM satelite radio. The remote can be programmed to control your TV as well. Great product.

  1. I purchased this system for my husband for Christmas. Set up was a breeze. It is a user friendly system for the whole family. Sounds great and looks even better.

  2. This is a very good system for the price point. Admittedly I'm not an audiophile, but I know good sound when I hear it. The treble is very clear and after putting the sub in the corner of the room, the bass rumbles throughout the entire house. The only weak point of the system is the lack of midrange speakers. Midrange sounds, particularly male speaking voices, come across as too hollow, though during music playback the midrange sounds fine.

I like the fact that the amplifier of the rear speakers is integrated into the base. I would hate to have to hide an unsightly boxy amplifier. As for the changing speed of the discs, it is slow, but I have no problem with it. The only other potential problem for some users may be the limited number of connections to and from other devices.

  3. This sound system I purchased for my 23 yr old son for Christmas. He thinks they have a wonderful sound. Worth the price paid for them.

  4. The installation process was fairly easy. The programming was a little more complex. There is a downside to this system in that there are several different ways to wire from the DVD player to the TV and so far I cannot find a solution that allows the TV sound to be ran through the unit. The only thing left to try is the digital optical cable. If that does not work, I will be very disappointed. The system however, performs admirably with the DVD's and that is enough to warrant keeping this system.

  5. I purchased Sony DAV-FX900 last month and am very pleased with the performance. Setup was a bit difficult and I think Sony could have done a better job with instruction manual. I still ended up fitting the speakers with wrong color coded wires (didn't want to open it again to redo it). This is my first HT system and overall I would give a thumbs up.

  1. After having this Micro system for 10 days I can say that I'm really disappointed with it's performance! The radio is good for nothing. Out of dozens of radio stations in my city, I can hear only a few of them without significant noise, while others are completely out of range or with too much noise. To be fair, I put 5 yr. old JVC mini system at the same spot, using the same antenna, and I got dozens of radio stations with very neat sound - no noise at all! The difference is HUGE!
I use this system to listen my MP3's over USB (nice feature) and from DVD-RW which works fine, although it would be nice to have a "skip folder" button on remote controll since I don't want to have my TV on to be able to listen and navigate MP3's.
The sound is OK, but it's missing Bass and Treble controls. Also, when you want to put the volume really low, it might happen that on level 4 the sound is too loud and on level 3 the sound is to low.
When playing from CD/DVD, a big blue circle is lit up and looks cool - unless it's close to your face in night and you can't switch it off without turning off the system.
The system is filled with flaws... I wonder if after designing a system like this they ever put it to test with real consumers?
I gave it more then one star simply because it has the feature to play MP3 from USB.

  2. I have 2 of these units and have had issues with both. The first unit had a bad external video box. I called philips to get this fixed and I have made 4 attempts to order this part and every time they have sent me the wrong part.

I purchased a second unit to use as a multimedia player for music. This time all the cables were good, but this particular unit has a buzzing in the background no matter which source you choose.

I have done some research and turns out that most other owners are getting the same background noise. This is not normal. My original unit does not have this noise.

Stay away from this product if you are picky about sound quality.

  3. You can't beat this system for the price, the sound is awesome, simple hookup, the only con was that the speakers are hardwired, and the wires are simply not long enough

  4. Stylish, small, plays divx, complete in all functions
    Very good for small places.
If you want a living room home theather don't buy this
Fits for what is expected.I give 4 stars because divx subtitles have to be the same name of movie.
I had to rename all my divx.movies and subtitles

  5. Philips MCD288 Micro DVD Home Theater System with Subwoofer
A very stylish system. It sounds good, but not great. If you plan to listen to it at low volumes there is a background hum that is quite annoying. At volume 4 and above, sounds really nice. Unfortunately, we bought it for our infant to listen to lullabies to get to sleep. We set it at 3 and there's a slight hum that annoys me. I'm sure my daughter won't mind, but if I had to do it over again I would not have purchased this one. There is no clock feature on this either.
