- I bought this very excited about the advanced features it supported, such as iPod connectivity (without purchasing some ripoff $100 "adapter") and HDMI switching.
The features are great but wow, the whole thing feels so lightweight and cheap! Really cheesy plastic; it does not feel like a $300 product. The amplifier unit sounds fine with my existing speakers, but I was really disappointed by the included JVC speakers. They are sad, cheap little boxes with limited range output.
Overall I am disappointed and am returning it.
- I purchased it today and I researched it online going from Yahoo shopping to CNET reviews and I am pleased with the system. I hook my Ipod up to it and it works fine I can even use my remote to change the songs on the Ipod. I have the System in my bedroom and I connected it to my PS3 and 42 inch plasma and it sound is fine. I have played a couple of games on it and Devil May Cry, Uncharted, Rainbow 6 LV and Madden sound outstanding. I have a Bose system downstairs and I didn't want my bedroom to sound like a movie theater. For a small unit it has plenty of power. I might upgrade the speakers but for now as long as I can hear gunshots and explosions that is all I need. I am happy I bought it because I almost purchased that Sony DAVX10 . With the money I saved on this unit I can get more Blu Ray DVDs.................

- Only thing BAD about it-- really EASY to hook-up!--
is that the wife is always telling the neighbors the
reason I listen to "it" so loud is because of my many
years around heavy artillery, tanks, and naval gunnery.
Puts you right THERE with your movie!
The wife's outta town this weekend... I'm gonna try a
volume setting over "77". Oh! My system is BLACK...
looks better on a white wall-- or at least I thought so.
My car IS W-H-I-T-E!

- I am totally satisfied with this receiver so far...The step up from just having Pro-Logic to this 6.1 system is considerable. It makes everything sound better... music, movies, and games. Contrary to the report I saw here, this receiver has (2)optical inputs with (1)coaxial input.(not the other way around)These are both assignable to the input that you want. The setup wasnt bad. Actually, if you follow the manual, it is quite easy. Dont be fooled by the seemingly low power rating compared to others. Onkyo measures their ratings in a different way than most. This receiver has plenty of power to rock the house. If you want a truly high quality receiver without breaking the bank, try one of these!

5 comments about Onkyo HT-SR600 5.1 Home Theater Entertainment System (Black).
- Great low price system. I am using it in a medium sized living room setup and it just perfect. I dont have to turn up the volume level very high to get a perfect sound level so I think it would sound good in larger rooms. The only slight downside would be the bass. The non-powered subwoofer doesnt exactly produce massive sound. However it is the perfect amount for my apartment, just note that if very loud bass is important to you, I would check outh the HT-S700, it has a larger subwoofer and wattage.
- I knew for $275 this wasn't going to be the best home theatre system ever, but expected a descent system from Onkyo. The reviews were so-so and when I first installed the system I thought it was good for the money but not the best I had ever heard. I have digital (Comcast) cable and many stations are broadcast in HD and DTS digital sound. I had friends over for the Superbowl 2008 and watched it in HD and Digital Surround Sound. I gotta tell you, when Tom Petty came on at half time, I set the volume at 75 and I could have sworn we were at the show..........in the front row. My friends were just as impressed as I was. It blew us all away. The only bad thing about it is that it was Brets last game. I'll miss you Bret.
My family room where the system is installed is 14 feet wide and 25 feet long. Not a huge room but a good size for this system I would say. It took some tweeking of the settings, and I would not recommend this system to someone that isn't willing to (play) with the controls a little. There are a lot of parameters you can adjust and it took some research on the internet (and talking to friends) for me to get it tuned in. Onkyo ROCKS!
- We purchased this product to use primarily for movies/tv/video games/etc. and I must say I'm very pleased with it. It is also a very attractive setup as well. I do use it for listening to music sometimes (and it's fine for me) but I can see how a previous reviewer who bought it to replace his stereo system was disappointed though. If you're looking to use it for bumping loud music and the like, it probably is not the right choice. All in all for the price I would say it is a great system though. I'd definately recommend it.
- The speakers are outstanding for the room I'm using them in. The software for sound seperation and reproduction suits my ears to a tee. Overall I'm very pleased with performace for the price.
- I just picked this sytem up yesterday at Fry's Electronics for $153.00. It was supposed to be on sale for $191.00, I'm not going to argue with an additional $38.00 savings.
Set-up was a breeze and it sounds great. I hooked it up differently than they instructed for using a: Cable Box, DVD Player and a TV. As I have HDMI cables from my Cable Box and DVD Player to my Plasma TV. This is how my Plasma TV said to connect (RCA Cables from The Home Theatre OUT Connections)
You can't beat the sound for $153.00 !!!
