  1. these are my second pair of skullcandy headphones and just AS I EXPECTED they truley rock.

  2. Normally, I love skullcandy merchandise. But these chops feel like headphones from the dollar tree.
The sound quality is mediocre at best.
But the confort it provides is decent given that it stays on your ears because it clips there.

But what really makes these headphones terrible, and hopefully a flaw that most skullcandy headphones won't have, is the lifespan of the plug.
I've taken good care of my chops, and they barely lasted me 2 weeks before the plug began to act up, and die.

    Terrible product!

  3. Over the past few years, I've converted to buying skullcandy products. I have a pair of Smokin' Buds, as well as Lowriders. Both I am completely impressed with and love to wear.

Therefore, when I decided to get some over-the-ear headphones to wear for sports (I snowboard), I automatically went with skullcandy. BAD IDEA. Straight out of the package, I skimmed my iPod for a good song to test them out on. I tried them with Chamillionaire...the bass wasn't even audible. I tried Aerosmith...the high notes were grainy and unbearable to listen to. I tried Death Cab for Cutie...even the middle-ground notes were fuzzy and really made me want to just turn off my iPod.

They're comfortable, I'll give them that...but as for actually listening to anything with them on, probably not going to happen. And, for 20 bucks, I expect way more. Wal-Mart can give me $5 headphones that work better than this! I returned mine today (I bought them yesterday) and spent 10 more bucks for the Nike Vapors. WAY better.

Actually, anything would be better than these...

  4. I bought these as a replacement for some old Sony headphones that I have had for years. Now, I don't any of the ear buds nor do I own any of the other larger versions that this company makes. I do own one set of overpriced earphones that have a very tinny sound (tinny not tiny) that not only won't stay in my ears when I work out, they won't even stay in when I am sitting still. Do yourself a favor and buy a pair of ten dollar Sony's that stay in, have a good sound and block out any outside noise.

5 comments about Sony MDR-SA1000 DJ Stereo Headphones.
  1. As a club and mobile DJ for 20 years I have used several brands of pro-DJ headphones. After trying some other names I decided to go back to Sony. Typically Sony headphones made for pro DJs have the letters "DJ" in the name, so when I found these on Amazon I assumed the name of the headphones were "Sony MDR-SA1000 DJ." WRONG! Nowhere on the packaging, headphones, or the literature does Sony call these "DJ" headphones.... and that is because they are NOT DJ headphones! Contrary to the Amazon review, these were NOT made with DJs in mind. Sony engineers know that thin plastic connections and delicate exposed wires like the ones on these would not last a month in the typical jock's gear bag. Sony knows that DJ headphone cups should rotate to allow for resting on the shoulder during a live mix. Sony knows DJs don't need a "lightweight frame structure" and they also know that a straight cord means a DJ in a tight booth is probably more likely to trip on it then worry about it damaging records or "fine equipment!" (What DJ gets his/her headphone cords near their vinyl in the first place??)

I strongly feel that Amazon should remove the misleading and misinformed DJ references from this review. At the very least they should remove the "DJ" from the product name because it is NOT part of the product name.

I am sending these back without listening to them. Non-DJs should read other reviews for information on performance and sound quality. DJs should move on and look at other headphones... and make sure you double check that those headphones truly are for DJs!

  2. Yes I agree these should not be labeled "DJ" headphones. I think that that is misleading. At the same time I do not believe that giving these 1* just because of durability in a "DJ" environment helps others. Those of you who have bought these primarily on that basis are poor consumers. Do your research FIRST. Also evaluations by those with tinker toy audio setups does not help. These are very fine headphones for the price / performance and when driven by a decent source produce very accurate sound reproduction. As for the lack in the low end range this is somewhat true, but it is very tight and accurate (I think allot of people do not know what a real low end should sound like, they are accustomed the boomy / sloppy low end produced by cheap equipment). So here is my recommendation:
    1) If you have decent audio equipment (a quality dedicated headphone amplifier and good source) these perform very well.
    2) These are an "Open Air" design. This design is used to increse the quality of the sound, but also allows exerior sounds in and some sound produced by the unit out. If this is important to you do not buy these, get a "closed / sealed" design.
    3) These are for home use. Do not buy them for travel or DJ use.
    4) Replace the original cable with a high end cable (makes these sound much better)
    5) The price / performance ratio these are hard to beat.
    6) Everyone has there own tastes preview / research before you buy!
    7) If you have low end equipment buy to match what you have. These are fairly efficient at 70ohms, but if you are using an IPOD get 32 Ohm headphones or buy a headphone amplifier.
    Hope this was helpful....

  3. These are not designed for one-ear use. They do not have the letters DJ in the name, however Sony does list them in their web-site as DJ headphones. There is no leather in these headphones anywhere.

I am replacing my 20 year old Sony MDR CD1000 headphones.

The SA1000's required about 10 decibles louder amplification to do a side by side comparison, so as has been stated elsewhere, you may not be happy if you are using a portable player with low volume output. However as these are more designed for home use, I suspect that will seldom be a problem.

I loved wearing my CD1000s as they were very comfortable wearing for extended periods. These SA1000s seemed to be more comfortable than the current competition for the price, but not as comfortable as my CD1000s as the SA1000s tend to irritate the top of my head after a couple of hours. The CD1000s had a spring loaded leather strap holding them in place, but none of the current offerings seem to offer this setup.

I do like the sound. Their lighter weight allows them to rest completely off the ears without discomfort allowing a more spacious soundstage than my CD1000s offered.

The fabric cord does tend to twist up more easily than other headphone cords, however they also wind up and un-twist easier and has not been a source of irritation.

If you are looking for headphones to help you imagine that you are listening to the CSO in Orchestra Hall while resting on your couch at home without spending a ton of money, then these will work very well.

Followup 3 month later, my review does not change, but I wanted to point out that they sound much better and much cleaner now than then did when I first wrote this review in comparison to my CD1000s. I have read in the past that some headphones require a break-in period and this seems to be true here as well.

  4. The Sony MDR-SA1000 headphones are hard to beat. They are very comfortable and can handle high volume. Would recommend them to those that what extreme comfort and loud music with all the bass and highs they could possibly handle. Im a guy who has been into music for almost 40 years now, these headphones are hard to beat especially for the price I paid on Amazon. Zayberzero

  5. Sony MDR-SA1000 DJ Stereo Headphones
As a musician, writer, producer and engineer for 20 years, I've used many different headphones, these are simply the best for my purposes-light and comfortable, sturdy, precise with un-colored sound, straight cord. Most importantly is the sound-very, very accurate, and secondly the comfort - circumaural(around the ear, not on the ear). I have compared them to the Sony MDR 7506, AKG K240, Senns and ATH - The most surprising difference was in the high frequency coverage-crisp and cool. I've never written a product review before so understand that I was truly impressed by these phones. They met and exceeded my expectations. Note that these phones are on the 'large' physical size, but extremely light in weight.

  1. These "cans" sound tremendous! In my opinion, right up there with the venerable Koss Pro4AA's but much, much lighter. These aren't audiophile quality but sound great for general and very comfortable listening purposes. The 50mm drivers bring out the music nicely without pumping up the bottom end with a phony "phatness!" The cord's long enough but a little thin, so be careful. For the price these are tough to beat! Enjoy

  2. I have owned many different types and brands of headphones over the years, some inexpensive some very expensive. When I needed a new pair for a mini stereo system I read alot of reviews and picked the Panasonic RP-HT560 headphones. They reproduce sound including bass very well. The only problem I have with these headphones is the cord. It could be of a heavier guage-the original feels a bit flimsy. All in all, for the price they are very good.

  3. I picked up a pair of these headphones overseas and they have travelled several thousand miles with me over the last 6 months. There is no wear and tear yet; they actually came apart slightly when stuffed in my carry on but I just snapped them back together. The sound is amazing for the price, they are my first pair of panasonics in a while and I think Ill stick with them if this is the kind of quality and value I can expect throughout their lineup.

  1. I love these earphones. The fact that they come in lots of different colors is cool, I personally own two, 1 for jogging and 1 for lounging around. Also, no standard earphones, especially apple earbuds, stay in my ears. But these don't budge, and the sound quality is awesome. The bass is really great which pumps you up more for a workout. Plus, the price point is great considering the quality.

  2. These headphones have better sound than the $200 Shures I replaced! They were much more comfortable for me to wear, since I apparently have very small ear canals (on a big head- go figure!).

Downsides? No cable management system, carrying case, or detachable lead cable (for inserting a microphone with a smartphone or iPhone). And the actual wires seem very flimsy - tangling easily and getting kinked.

Overall, I would give them a strong recommendation if you like low end frequencies and an earbud type of headphone.Radius Atomic Bass - Headphones ( ear-bud ) - maroon

5 comments about Cyberhome CH-SRD 600R 6-channel Surround Headphones with Game Decoder.
  1. I'll be honest - I got these headphones because they were so cheap. I like playing PC action games and so the sound effects and their positional information is very important. Using multiple speakers is effective but rather noisy for the rest of the household!

    Enter these CH-SRD600R headphones.

They are driven by a digital signal and will not support an analog output - so make sure you have either an optical or electrical digital output. Do not expect to plug these into an MP3 player etc. I believe most DVD and CD players these days have digital outputs. My Creative Audigy 2 sound card has a digital output which works nicely with these phones.

They can be powered either by an AC adapter (supplied) or a rechargable lithium ion battery (also supplied).

The headphones come with their own decoder to drive the 3 speakers in each phone so any PC internal decoding is redundant - it just treats the headphones as the front two speakers. This is where the manual could be more helpful - it effectively says plug the phones in and use them. I found that the best approach was to configure the sound card for simple headphones and then select 5:1 audio from the (game) software. I've tried using the headphones with a PlayStation 2 via the optical digital output, and while they seem to work, there appears to be just two volume settings: 'very loud' or 'off' (and so probably suits most players). I've not yet tried direct connection to a DVD player to see how that decodes.

I won't claim that they are the ultimate in audiophile quality but they are very nicely made and sound absolutely brilliant in games. The electronics are very quiet and there's no background noise or hiss detectable. The transient response is impressive and there's a great ambient presence. These phones will literally make you jump out of your seat. The positional information is difficult to judge as I think it does depend so much on the (game) software being used but I could certainly discriminate between things being in front, behind or to the side.

Listening to music was a bit disappointing. These are 'over the ear' phones but are extremely comfortable to wear. The sealing pads are very effective at eliminating outside sounds. Unfortunately, like a lot of cheaper headphones of the type, they do tend to sound a bit 'boxy'. I think that listening to music for long periods may be rather wearing. This is, of course subjective, but I will continue to use my Sennheisers for listening to music.

The blister box contains the headphones, the decoder, an extension cable for the phones, an AC power supply, a lithium ion battery, an optical cable and an electrical cable. The only extra thing I needed to get was an adapter to connect the RCS coax plug on the electrical signal cable to the 3.5mm digital output jack on my sound card.

For the price I paid for them, these headphones are a fantastic bargain. I suspect however that CyberHome are no longer making them and what is being currently sold is old stock so get a pair while you still can.

  2. Pros:
-Takes both optical & coaxial inputs.
    -Volume control mounted on unit.
    -Look nice.
    -Headset completely covers my ears.

    Cons:
-The Optical input has some noise, but isn't so bad after turning up the volume. The Coaxial input has alot of noise, very annoying.
-The headset is kinda shallow on the inside & ends up pushing against my ears & they start to hurt after about an hour.
-The sound is poor. It isn't even average. Kinda bass heavy, then the mid-range is all over the place & the treble is non-existant. Sometimes it sounds like you're in a tunnel.
-There are a ton of cords to keep track of. There is the power supply, the line input, the little base that does the decoding. The cord to the headphones. It ends up being a pile.

Would I buy them again, probably not. If they weren't so painful, I'd probably be able to live with them, but that's just too much. I wanted them to do some nice gaming, but they ended up annoying me so much that I rather use stereo headphones. The 5.1 effect isn't all that good on these anyhow.

  3. I hooked these up to my Xbox 360 and was pleasantly surprised for the money.

The bass response is very impressive, and the left right separation is also surprisingly good. The L/R separation is the best feature, as you can really hear the difference between front right, dead right and rear right. Walking past something in a game and hearing it sweep along you is really well done. When the sound sweeps behind or in front it's not a smooth transition. The simulated rear and center front are workable, but not convincing (not a replacement for physical speakers).

Overall I'd say the sound is comparable to a set of the lower line Sennheiser over the ear phones.

  4. This device can be used with an HDTV to listen to the true 5.1 sound. I use a small HDTV for a computer monitor, and sometimes I just want to watch TV. Headphones can't reproduce the sound the same way a home theater does, because as you move your head, the headphones move with you, but they produce as good a listening experience as you can get if you don't want to use speakers and disturb those around you. I would market them as an HDTV device instead of a gamer's device. I work at a TV station, and it is helpful to be able to monitor the work I have done with such an inexpensive and useful item. Don't expect them to replace a whole home theater, but for what they are, they work just fine.

  5. the are great if you like excessive bass, a very short cable and you only have 13 bucks.one other thing...when you connect them to your xbox 360 you cant hear other people talking because the sound only comes out from one of th ear-cups, and yes,I tried all the different voice settings on my 360 to see if it worked and none did.
