2 comments about Sony MDR-F1 Full-Open-Air Headphones with Impedance Compensator.
- To this day, I have never felt strongly enough about any product to write a review about it.
But, for anyone considering this set of headphones, i must tell you this.
You will never find a better sounding AND incredibly comfortable set ANYWHERE.
I purchased more than one just in case the one i had somehow broke.
You cant go wrong!
- The Sony MDR-F1 Headphones are a respected headphone in the industry, and for a good many number of reasons. First I would like to say that these are NOT studio headphones. They have studio quality speakers, but because they are open-air style headphones, there will be a little other background noise.
With that said I will now brag about these amazing stereo headphones. They weigh practically nothing when on your head because of the band that lifts them from your head. There is also little place where these headphones touch your head, and don't touch your ear at all. They are the standard for real and true open air style. There is no place where they even graze your ear, even with a large ear like me. They can look really cool, and they are EXTREMELY LOUD when you need them to be. They can easily be plugged into a laptop and be used as external speakers to save energy as well as increase volume level. They pair with many portable audio players, especially ones that support 8 ohm output.
But that is just comfort and style. The sound is a totally seperate story. Talk about AMAZING!! I comapred them to my friends noise-canceling Bose headphones, and there were many differences. Please note that I turned the noise-cancelation on for the tests, so give it as much help as it could get. Now I should mention that I am a real Audiophile, and can be very picky about this. I rated the sound of the MDR's on a 1-10 scale, with 1 at Discusting and 10 for Unbelievable.
For lower Frequences like a bass guitar or the main beat of a r&b song, they are number one. In there description from sony it is pointed out that they have a special driver on the speaker that aids in clarity and pronouncieation of the bass. And how amazing they work. Simply un-deniable bass from these. It made the Bose look like third-rate over-priced paper-cone speakers. 11/10 for bass.
For midtones sony did what they do normally, giving it the standard design for those mid frequencies that include slightly lower voices and classical music. But don't underestimate the beauty of Sony and mid's. However Bose out-did them here. I believe that Bose loves to get to this on most of there woofers, so I was expecting this. for the MDR's, I give it 8.5/10 for mids
The High Notes. To many this is the most important. Due to the large size of the speakers and the solid construction, the high notes came out most exelent. Even on the highest pitches, there was no hiss or the very common rattle at high notes. They are made from a solid metal frame which has taken a lot, and can take the High's very well. Now when I compared this to the Boses' I Had trouble noticing any differences, and had to get out my meter on my computer that displays and remakes frequencies to do something like this. Both are almost equal contenders, with the only difference is that the Bose will be a little quietter on the hights, but by about +/- .03 dB. Thats not much. So little that I eventually gave up and said that they were as close to perfect as any will get. 10/10.
But there is something to considder when deciding what to get. "What am I going to listen to and where?" If you are on the plane a lot and like classical music to calm your nerves then bose. If you Rock out a lot and are in school or the office a lot, the Sony's are better in this case. Plus the Range of the sound. Love that bass? sony. Cant get enough of the vocals? Bose. It is very much on taste, and since I LOVE rock of all kinds the MDR-F1's were a blessing from God. I understand that Pioneer is also coming out with a new headphone that is very simmilar to both of these combined, which is also a thing to considder. One last thing. Open-Air Design. If you like to listen to music and only the music, this is not the good style for you. But if you feel better off knowing when someone is talking to you when you are listening to music, the MDR-F1 is the answer. And both of these headphones look a little funny on some people, but very few. The sony's look awkward on a tall and thin person with a suit on and a briefcase, but the Bose's look incredibly expensive, and they are, and are not for the t-shirt wearing pedestrian or casual man or woman. Again it is all about taste.

- I bought these in the hopes that they would replace my inexpensive Philips HS500 Behind-The-Ear Headphones. The sound quality was better than the Philips but I can't wear them for more than 30 minutes at a time. I can wear the HS500's for hours on end and no discomfort.
Though the sound is great, if you can't wear them, what good are they!
I'll gladly stay with my HS500, which are now extremely inexpensive...
- These are amazing. Crisp highs and deep, pounding lows make these headphones some of the best I've heard. As a self-proclaimed audiophile, I've heard some nice headphones, including a pair of Sennheiser HD 595s that I own. Not to dis Sennheiser, but these 20 dollar headphones might sound better than the 300 dollar HD 595s. And as for comfort, I dont know what that other guy was thinking, or how he was wearing them. These are some of the most comfortable headphones out there, no doubt. Do yourself a favor and buy these if you're looking for a nice pair of neckband headphones. You won't be disappointed.
Update: I've had these headphones for four months now, and the neckband just snapped today. Sure, they're cheap headphones, but they should be built with more quality than they actually are. They've got a 2-year warranty, and because they sound great I fully intend to replace them. But beware, these are more fragile than they should be. I want to change the number of stars I rated from 5 to 3, but it seems Amazon won't let me...
- I got these headphones just a bit ago, and I really like the sound they put out. Comparing them to some Panasonic, Philips, and stock Creative ones is like night and day. Really nice bass, and enough highs so it doesn't sound muffled... there sound quality is perfect.
But a bit after I bought them the headband broke. I taped it up with a splint and they still work, though.
Also, after a bit of wearing they make my ears a bit sore, since they really squeeze your head.

5 comments about Shure PA755 Triple-Flange Sleeves for Shure Sound-Isolating Earphones (1 Pair).
- I love these. They fit great and isolate great.
The retail price is $10 for 3 or 4 pair. Do not buy 1 pair for $10. Someone's opening the retail box and making 75% profit over the retail price.
- I am a frequent traveler and I was looking for a more portable alternative to Bose headset for short trips. My expectations were low that the triple flange sleeves would block out enough noise to be useful, but after reading many reviews I decided to try them. What I found is that the triple flange sleeves do an excellent job blocking out the noise and one my most recent trip overseas, I chose to use the Shure E2C ear buds with the triple flange sleeves over the Bose headset and I was pleasantly surprised. The delivery of the product from the vendor was prompt and you will have to work the flange sleeves a bit to fit the E2C ear buds. I strongly recommend trying this product and vendor.
- These ear bud covers work very well. They may take a few times of wearing them to get used to the feeling (alittle more pressure then the soft foam)but they stay in. I run on a treadmill and it's hard to find buds that stay in the ear.
- I bought these for Westone UM1s and they work great! Thanks to reviewer Pedro for the tip on cutting off the top (smallest) flange. Before I trimmed, they had a terrible seal (airy, no bass) and hurt my ears. After I cut off the small top and trimmed the stem to even with the 3rd (largest) flange, they work perfectly. They are much easier to put in than the comply tips that came with the UM1s. They do not block quick as much exterior sound as the comply foam tips in my opinion, but they take 2 seconds to insert for me vs having to squish the hard foam over and over to put those other ones in. I am hoping they do not get as nasty from ear dirt as the Complys did (I often wore them shortly after showering. Foamies don't work so well when wet!)
Unless you have large ears, follow the directions and cut them. It's a 10x improvement. The sound is terrific.
- These are great! An absolute must for anyone who uses in-ear monitors and can't afford $500 or more for custom ear molds. Using these was almost like being in a near-field monitoring (i.e., studio) environment.

5 comments about Griffin TuneBuds Combination Lanyard and Earbuds for iPod nano 1G (White).
- The Griffin Tunebuds are as good as the Apple Originals for a better price. They fit the ear better, reduce more noise and work just as well as the originals. The fixed length and attachment point seems to hook under shirt colars more.
- These are the closest in quality to the earbuds that came with my ipod nano, and WAY more comfortable! Excellent muffling of outside noise, without the sound quality being muffled itself. Great bass, great overall. Highly recommend these and I have bought three other pair before nailing it with this product! The design is convenient too, no long snake-y cords wrapped all over me. Excellent value.
- I had written a positive review of the iPod nano lanyard a year ago, and now I wish I hadn't. They whistled; they really weren't small enough for my ears; and the sound quit on one earbud after six months. So I bought these Griffins, and they are perfect. The earbuds actually come in a very small size, which appears to be needed by many users besides me, judging from the comments on the iPod lanyard site. The Griffins snap in more securely than the iPod's, too. The lanyard length isn't adjustable as on the iPod's, but its length seems just right anyway. I think these are easily the superior product.
- It only works for the ipod. its got a piece that clicks into the bottom so you cant use it with a psp.
- i bought this headphones and i didnt know it was only for the 1g nano and i have a 3rd generation nano and they work. the sound is very good i love them and for the price they are better.(good brand by the way)

5 comments about Koss KEB24 Portable Isolation Earbud (Green).
- Well, the first thing I did is pop 'em in, as is. I was a bit disppointed by the "isolation" -- I could still clearly hear noises around me.
I swapped the covers around, went for the large -- more runner stuffed in your ear = more sound blockage, right? Well, not for me. I switched to the small ones and bam! I can't hear the humm of the PC fan and can only faintly hear the clicking of the keyboard.
So after getting a proper fit and listinening to a few songs to get used to them, I went into my "most played" playlist and listened to three songs.
"Full Moon Jig" by Ancient Times was enough to impress. It has a fiddle line in it that sounded as crisp as I've ever heard it and the bass line (with NO equalizer setup) made my head vibrate as if I hass the bass turned up in the car.
"Yesterday" by The Beatles was a surprise. I didn't realize there were that many stereo effects -- even listening to it with the stock earbuds didn't render that. The guitar sounded clear, the lyrics sounded soft (I think that's the mix of the song, as I've never heard the lyrics as sharp as I'd have liked)
Brooks & Dunn's "Boot Scootin' Boogie" was my third choice. The bass again was impressive. I found it a bit disconcerting that the bass _can_ sound like that without making my chest rattle. The highs of the keyboard and fiddle were sharp as ever. The lyrics were as clear as I've heard them.
If you can get over the fact that they're in-ear, meaning clearing your throat or brushing the cord sounds LOUD, and surround noises are, well, mostly missing, these are nice headphones, and at $20, I'm happy. I say four stars because even with the closest-fitting tips, the fit isn't quite what I'm after and I keep wiggling them hoping to get them in just the right spot. If I had purchased these online, I'd keep them. Since I got them in a store, I'll try 'em for a few days and possibly swap for another brand in the same price range. Other than the funky fit, these are GREAT.
- These earphones produce an incredibly low amount of bass.
I was really shocked that anyone would produce earphones of this sound profile. I had to test it against my other phones to make sure that nothing was wrong with my audio player, computer, headphone jacks, settings, etc. Even a set of free throwaway earphones had much more bass.
I'm definitely not a bass head, but I think a minimum amount of bass is necessary for things to sound balanced. While the mids and highs are clear and crisp with these phones, I really cannot bear to use them for more than 5 minutes. It is tolerable for stuff like language learning audio, but seriously disrespects any form of music.
As others have mentioned, the cord shape is also weird and lays uncomfortably.
- I really liked the different sized buds this comes with - the regular size of other earbuds is too big for me. So after the first one broke within a couple of months, I hoped it was just a coincidence and bought a second pair of the same model.
Unfortunately, the second set also broke; this time they had just lasted 6 weeks. And I only use them twice a week for about an hour each.
The problem with each set of earbuds was that the left earbud gave out. After buying two, and each breaking, I won't get KOSS again.
The sound seemed ok to me, average for this kind of earbuds.
- I actually found these earbuds to be the most comfortable and best sounding earbuds I've ever had. I had to use the smallest size of the rubber covers, and for the first time ever, a pair of earbuds actually fit. I didn't find them uncomfortable, and I found the sound to be great for my purposes. If you're just looking for a comfortable pair of earbuds for a good price, I'd recommend these.
The only downfall I found was that the rubber can slip off sort of easily. I lost one on a plane once when I was putting my bag in the overhead compartment and the earbuds were around my neck.
- I simply cannot understand any review that describes these ear buds as anything less than fair. They have absolutely no bass, and while the sound is decent spatial highlighting, it just plain tinny.
I would have given them one star on sound alone, but they do fit better than most ear buds I have tried.
Not recommended.

5 comments about Maxell HB202 Stereo Head Bud.
- Maxell should stick to media and stay away from electonics.
These head phones are very comfortable and functional but that's where it stops too bad the performance of the product doesn't match the functionality. As a sound engineer I have used many headphones, but I can safely say that 2 tin cans on a string would sound better than these do if not the same.
- Bought these cheaply to work out with. The connection was bad whenever you moved and the wire split within a week of purchase. You get what you pay for, I guess.
- If I were rating this product merely on the design and comfort, I would have to give it 5 stars. They are extremely comfortable and snuggly fit in your ears. However the sound quality is horrific. I would expect to not have the best sound quality on a set of headphones this cheap, but the left channel on mine is considerably lower volume than the right making your music listening experience unbearable. If you're looking for dime store headphones check out Sony or Koss and stay away from these.
- it was good for like 3 days and my ear was EARitated by the desin and then it broke ain like 1 wk osoo u pay for what u get
- These headsets are so comfortable and the sound quality is much better than some that I have paid three times as much for. These have great sound quality at a great price! What more could I ask?
