  1. the sound quality is pretty good. maybe its because my head is too big or something, the headphone doesn't fit too well on my head, and don't use it for a long time tho. after all, it's a pretty good deal, although i like the Bose one better, but it's too expensive.

  2. The strange thing is I really like these headphones. The design is good, the build quality is fair, and for DJ headphones they are fairly comfortable.

The only thing that lets them down is the sound, which just isn't up to the Job for a pair of headphones at this price level. The whole sound is repressed, and colored. It's fairly poor at best, not the worst I've heard, but it's poor.

I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending them to anyone. Why the two stars? Like I said they are fairly comfortable and they broke the mould somewhat when it comes to the design.

  3. I have a 5YO pair of Radio Shack "Titanium" headphones bought for $24.95 still going strong, but way beyond average product life, and now discontinued (bad move on RS's part). The MAJOR DIFFERENCE between them and these DJs is the comfort issue; you KNOW you're wearing headphones as the pressure is evident (this may lessen over time OR with some headband tweaking), where the Titaniums are forgotten once placed on your head--both are light weight, but the RS headphones don't "squeeze" your head when wearing them. The SOUND QUALITY of the Titaniums is 20-20K Hrz and provides an "airy" or "spacial" sound stage, the DJs less "airy" and are either 1] flat across across the sonic spectrum OR 2] have mid-range boost/coloration giving me better voice clarity and an increased mid-range presence that I found I liked--all things considered--over the RS phones. I got the DJs for $47.00 w/free S+H as refurbs from an A'.com associated affiliate and at that price, I consider them an excellent value for the money. Creative Labs makes a high end headphone--the Aurvana Live! user rated at nearly 5-Stars--that A'.com offers at the lowest cost w/free shipping (as of the date of this review) that I considered but the price I got for the DJs and their specs were the deciding factors. I recommend these headphones, and would have given them 5-Stars but for the comfort issue.

Addendum to my "Private Listening = 4-Stars" review. The "comfort issue" has been resolved! I reasoned that the spine of the headphone had to be metal and as such, the tension causing the phones to press uncomfortably on the head from both sides could be adjusted by CAREFULLY bending the spine back--widening it--to a tension that made them comfortable to wear AND permitting the around-the-ear cups to fit snuggly at the same time. Guess what? IT WORKED!!! Sooooo...when you read the reviews on this or similar headphones with user comments about them being "uncomfortably tight to the head" be assured there's a cure for that complaint. My rating on the DJ phones is now a full 5-Stars.

  1. Whose ears are this large???

As someone already stated, they only stay in your ears for 2 seconds. I'm even using the tapered inserts. They have fairly nice sound from what I can tell, but they are painful and don't stay in my ears.

  2. Good earphones but did the well paid engineers at phillips make them too big to many ears. I have to push them into my ear with pressure, not like other earbuds.

  3. What a great price. I normally spend 40-50 on Sony or even more on BOSE headphones and the surround sound idea seemed cool.

They seem, as other reviews said, very tough and well made.

Sadly, they sound like a surround system on HALL setting, like an echo is going on.
Perhaps this works for celine dion or orchestral works but for Bass and dance type sounds it is severely disappointing.

  4. I bought this product, based on the impressive display and characteristics the container boasted. While the product does deliver great surround sound other impressive characteristics, this product's good characteristics are quickly outweighed by its one most problematic circumstance-They fall out very quickly usually 2-3 minutes after applying them. To ensure that the earbuds sustain themselves in your ear, you basically have to thrust them into your ear, an deep within them to the point it hurts at that. I would not recommend this product at all, not because its has horrible sound quality, but because its tendency to repeatedly fall from your ears disallows you to efficiently listen to and keep comfort with your music.

  5. I have owned these for about 2 years and they have stood up to daily use. The sound quality is good enough for me, I'm not an audio engineer or anything that might make me a discerning observer, but the sound quality is some of the best I've had for head phones in this price range. The clear rubber ear "fittings" will come off the ear piece so be careful not to loose them.

3 comments about Portable DVD Private Theater Sound (Ear-hook Headphones with Retractable Cord ).
  1. I travel and exercise a lot, so I needed headphones that could go from the gym bag to the carry on-bag without tangling. These are one of the only retractable sets on the market that feature workout-friendly ear hooks. They produce good sound and stay on your ears while jogging. My only complaint is that the retractable cord spring mechanism requires some patience. It sometimes fails to lock in the extended position, and sometimes unevenly spools the cord when retracting (leaving you with a bunch of unretracted cord). But usually it works okay, the headphones store easily, and the price is good. I'd recommend these as backup, travel, or workout headphones.

  2. I purchased these as I love the ear-hook clip on type of headphones for the gym and wanted a pair that had a retractable cord. As soon as I took them out of the package the ear clip broke. Less than 5 seconds and I had a useless product. I'm back to using my Panasonic Ear Clip headphones with the regular cord. I won't buy Phillips again.

  3. Broke in just a few weeks. The design is flawed. The cored that goes into the earpiece is not secured adequately and after repeated pulling (you have to do to extend the cord and retract it) it give out and you loose one earphone. Also the earpiece that the earbud is connected to is weakly constructed and is loose. I did not know this but I had bought the exact same design from CompUSA branded by Emerge. It broke the same way. This earbud should be taken off the market.

  1. This product is good - which is why I have given it four stars.

However, notice that when you buy this item from Amazon the item is shipped and sold by 8th Street Music.

8th Street Music took FAR too long to ship the package. You should definately try somewhere else before buying from 8th Street Music.

  2. The sound quality of this headphone amplifier is surprisingly good. And it seems to be well made construction wise. Hard to beat this quality for the price. The only reason not to get it is because of the big Hello Kitty logo on it. Though if you want, you can easily cover up that logo with some black electrical tape so nobody would ever know there is a bright pink kitty on your amp.

  3. For the money its not a bad amp. The "clean" setting is nice but the "distortion" and "overdrive" are poo-poo. Also, I'm not thrilled with the Hello Kitty logo but I usually use this amp while alone.

  1. These did take some experimenting to get a good fit. I use them regularly while running on the treadmill, and they work fine. They help block out the sound of the treadmill and other noises. I recommend them highly.

  2. I own a 30 Gb iPod, and was getting tired of the cheap earphones that come with it. Aside from the cable getting frayed and wires exposed, sound leakage was so bad that I had to turn up the volume all the way (not good for the hearing!). Sound quality wasn't great either.

I then ordered the E2C earphones and after trying each size of the clear plastic inserts for the ears, I settled on the medium sized pair. They were ALMOST perfect, but today's commute demonstrated that unfortunately they had a tendency to slip out just enough to be problematic. Sound isolation had improved and I was able to turn down the volume, but they sounded rather tinny, with no bass.

I arrived home and tried out the disposable spongy ear inserts instead. What a difference! A solid fit, great sound isolation and a lovely rich sound.

From reading other posts about Shure sound isolating earphones, it does seem that different inserts suit different people, and that if you experiment you will find the one that suits you.

Only time well tell in terms of the earphones' durability and the rate at which I will have to replace the disposable ear inserts, but I'm very happy so far. My one 'cavet emptor': do look both ways when crossing the road! These earphones do a great sound isolation job, so don't assume you will always hear that truck bearing down upon you!

  3. I am a live vocalist for a band. I use in-ear monitors in a loud stage environment for hearing protection and monitor quality. I tried a set of these E2 on my motorcycle MP3. They are THE TICKET. Not only is the sound quality excellent...but they reduce extraneous noise by about 25 to 30 dB.

However I plan on getting custom ear pieces molded. After a long road trip the OEM tips begin to hurt my ears a bit.

  4. I have tried each and every attachment and these headphones will not stay in my ears even for the first few steps of my run. The sound quality is fine but even sitting still I found them quite uncomfortable.

Do not buy these if you are looking for headphones to wear while you run/work-out. They will drive you crazy!

  1. These headphones have to be the best I've ever had. Has amazing sound quality, great mic, easy to adjust volume, and over all pretty comfortable and sexy. The only problem I have experienced with them is after hours of gaming my ears start hurt, not because of volume but because after having these babies on pressed against you ears for so long they get sore I guess is the best way to describe it. These headphones are great for only a price of $50. No they aren't 300 dollar competition headphones with fancy lights, they just simply work well and give you an overall better gaming experience.

  1. The headphone unit itself performs adequately, but, this is not the reason I give it five stars. I give it five stars for the supplied USB adaptor which provides excellent audio. When using the USB adaptor instead of the microphone/ headphones I/Os on my VAIO A160 and UX280 notebooks, the audio is much clearer. However, the audio quality could be significantly degraded if using an USB hub (in my case, with Cyberpower CP-H420MP).

  2. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1RFLZZHAB0VFY Although I agree that this video produces great audio input and output, there are a few things that the customer should know about before they buy. Take a look at the video to see.
