5 comments about Koss KTXPRO1 Titanium Portable Headphones with Volume Control.
- Gotta love 'em - sound great, don't notice them when wearing, comfortable on the ears, carry a great range of sound especially hearty bass for the metalhead in you! I don't like the "behind the neck" or buds type and tried a bunch of headsets before this one and it's my favorite - worth alot more than the price that's for sure.
- Koss KTXPRO1 Titanium Portable Headphones with Volume Control
I just have to chime in here - These phones came to me with much anticipation on my part for $[...], free 2-day shipping, thanks to a 30-day free trial of AmazonPrime.
I've read every review I could get my hands on, so I knew about the fit issues, reduced and/or less exaggerated high frequency response compared to the KSC75 clip-ons (which I already own, and just ordered another pair for work), etc. just so you know a little about where I'm coming from. Here's the other thing you need to know about me - I'm cheap. I have been known to step over a $[...] bill to pick up a dime, in some of my less-lucid moments.
But, enough about me, you're reading this to find out about the quality of these phones. However, there's a story behind my evaluation, you see, I first ordered the KSC75 sport clips, because of their fame from head-fi.org to which I proudly belong, never really intending to use the clips, because I already had a cheap portable performer in the V-Moda Bass Freqs. So I knocked off the clips and glued them to an old Sony headband, for use with my Gateway PC w/ Sigmatel audio chip (for those who are interested), and although I didn't notice it at first, they seemed to develop a warbling in mids and highs even with uber-media player Foobar2000-decoded flac files (which I'm not sure is important with the advent of directsound-dominated WinVista) at high volumes, but I wasn't sure if this was due to the modification, or a product of my integrated sound chip, but I promise I will update/edit this as soon as I have a chance to break in my new KSC75s.
I can tell you that I have thus far (2+ listening hours, during which I have seen the soundstage and dynamic range open up like a May flower) been unable to duplicate this warble in my brand new KTXPRO1s (which, for those of you who've done your homework know, shares most if not all of its driver design with probably at least a half-dozen other Koss products, including the KSC75, Sportapro, Portapro, etc?). I'm sure that warbling is not the correct term, but then I'm an audiophile only insofaras I'm a lover of high fidelity sound as I know it. I can also say that although I was a bit worried about the subdued highs upon first listen, it seems to have really balanced out in the last couple of hours and I must admit I have a tad bit of high freq hearing damage from my years in the Air Force.
I'm gonna try to wrap it up here - I've been jamming to Steely Dan for abut 3 hours now and the sound just keeps getting better. I have a hard-to-fit melon-sized head and I'm experiencing no fatigue whatsoevever - forgot the blue rubber thingy was even there. The reported lack of treble, I think, is actually the absence of accentuated/exaggerated/fake (OUCH!) treble, and - I'm detecting a much better handling of sound leakage compared to the KSC75, probably also related to the treble issue via the (semi-closed?) design. I just had my daughter, who has a much smaller, normal-sized head, try them on (for the second time). She got a good fit, shook her head around - I watched them not move. I don't know what else to say, except these sound better than the Bose in-ear and over-the-ear tri-ports I bought last year (I had a windfall) and returned. I will update, as promised. I plan to give my new KSC75s (Look for this upcoming review by Yours Truly, as well as a Creative Zen review) a good workout with my new eBay homemade CMoy headphone amp. Bottom line is, if you're a miser like me, but crave good quality sound like women love chocolate, get off your a _ _. You're gonna wanna buy these.
AND, if Amazon offers you a trial of AmazonPrime, take advantage of it. You can set it up not to auto-enroll after the trial, thus foregoing the worry of your credit card getting charged. Honestly, I'm getting spoiled from the free 2-day shipping, no minimum spending amount deal. Either way, it's made a life-long customer out of me.
So, who am I working for, Koss or Amazon? Hah ;-)
--Quick update: I have been using these phones for well over a week now, and I have only been further impressed by them. They are, believe it or not, far superior to their "sibling," the KSC75 sportclips. I don't know where the "experts" stand on this, but all I can say is there is a strange irregularity of sound in the mid to high range of sound on the KSC75s (two units frome two different suppliers) that is nowhere to be found on the KTXPro1s. I don't know if it comes from the difference in enclosure or other build particulars. That said, I can now see the concern revolving around the fit of these phones on various shapes and sizes of heads. Personally, I had to bend them outward above the vertical adjustment to wear them comfortably for long periods of time. I have a big head. And I feel I have to constantly check the diagonal, floating adjustment to get good sound. Makes me wonder if the slightly more expensive PortaPro/UR40 family of phones wouldn't remedy these problems. But notwithstanding this, I would find them superior to the KSC75s any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Honestly, I have to have a totally different eq setting for these two phones on my new Sony NWZ-A728 player, which, obviously precludes me from reviewing the Creative Zen, as I had planned - it simply wasn't an option for me, under the (warranty) circumstances. In short, minor fit issues were not enough to prevent me from wallowing in the stellar sound quality of these budget phones.
- These headphones are great! They are very clear and quite comfortable to wear. That extra strap on them really does keep them from moving/shifting. The volume control is very convenient as well. This is my second pair because I broke the plastic arm on the first set (which I still use).
I did not hesitate for a second to buy these same headphones again. They are the only headphones I can wear without having to constantly "refit" on my head everytime I move around. (I use the broken pair in the rain; and, still, they continue to give me great sound!)
- I have spend over 500.00 this year for phones but these are perfect for great sound and far better than i expected. I think you'll need to spend 100.00 buck to get better.
Hard to beat unless you are tone deaf.
- So my Sennheiser HD 595 phones developed a hiss in the left speaker, and the warranty has expired. I was so down for a week it was actually kind of sad. I just listen to these things all the time. I am a headphone geek and an audiophile. So I pull these out of the bottom of a box. I had purchased them two years ago for the wife who never used them. I hooked them up to my headfive headphone amp to listen to a podcast. When it ended, it jumped straight to music - and I was blown away. Listen: these are 15 dollar headphones that totally hang with Grado 60s, Sennheiser portables, etc. They destroy crappy skullcandy headphones and overpriced sony phones. If you are a poor highschooler wanting something that 'gets' music, these get it. Channel separation is great on these little things. I cannot believe the bass quality. There is a midbass hump but I think the midrange is richer than some have suggested in other reviews. Will send out the Senns to get fixed, but I won't be crying about it in the meantime. Yes, that is amazing as the Senns are 300 dollar phones.

5 comments about Maxell HP20 Headphone Extension Cord with Adapters.
- This really worked out well for me. Now I can plug my speakers and my headset into my audio card. The only other thing that would have been nice is a mute switch for the mic. But for the price it's GREAT!
- This extension cord is a lifesaver. I recently installed a very noisy air conditioner in my apartment and as a result I could not hear my TV without blasting the sound. Not wanting to be "that neighbor," I invested in this cord so I could watch TV with headphones. I'll echo what others have said: the cord transmits sound very well even through my rinky little iPod headphones, though the coil is pretty tight and reaching to 20 feet is a stretch (pun slightly intended). I'm fine with that because the jacks on the cord are very secure (no slipping) and I only need about 10 feet of extension, but if you're looking to use this for longer distances, then I'd suggest buying two cords. Still, ten bucks is a good value for this handy little product.
- This is working out perfectly well as an extension for a pair of earphones for my aunt, who is hard of hearing and wanted a means to watch TV without disturbing neighbors. It comes with a variety of attachments which is a plus.
- This chord is really about half the length they claim. The coiled part is impossible to fully extend, but the only way this chord would be the length they claimed would be if you could uncoil this. Also because it has a huge coiled up part in the middle the chord is very heavy. If you do not place something on top of it to secure it you may find the chord's weight pulling your ear plugs from your ears.
It does work fine however, just be aware the length is much shorter then they claim, and the chord is heavy.
- They are mostly what you'd expect but the connections appear to be steel and lack gold plating unlike all my other connectors. It has the usual adapters but it's missing a matching mini to 1/4" one for headphones or additional cables that use 1/4" plugs. Cost is probably similar to what it would be at Walmart or Super Target IF you have one nearby but the shipping was free. Since it's from Maxell the warrantee actually has meaning since they'll still be around in a few months unlike if you buy one of the generic options from Amazon.com or elsewhere. I took off a star just because gold plating would have been slightly better but if you don't care then consider it as a 4 star product.

5 comments about V-MODA Vibe Earbuds - Gunmetal Black.
- As the other reviews state, these earbuds sound great, however, I've found that they are not very durable. Within two weeks of enjoying them, I began to notice the cable near the 3.5 mm jack beginning to fray. Two weeks after that, sound in the right earbud was gone, never to return. I've just purchased the Shure EC2-n earbuds, hoping they last longer.
- I initially bought these headphones soon after their initial release, before all the fancy colors after first having the cheaper V-Moda Bass Freqs. I broke the Bass Freqs about 9 months after i bought them, but it was my own fault as i accedentally pulled on the wire on a rowing machine while wearing them...stupid me. I really enjoyed the quality of sound of them, and most people said these were superior sound to them...not just bass but midrange and treble...and they were built from metal so they were more durable...i would believe. (When i pulled on the wire the plastic head casing broke in half and ripped some small wires out, not easy DYI repairing :( ). So i bought these through amazon and was impressed with the sound they produced. The bass was not as present as the aptly named bass freq, but the midrange and treble was not even comparable. I was pleased with my 30 dollar extra spent. (Both sets block out the sound more than you can imagine. My colleagues got mad at me not hearing them.) However, after about 6 months of use, the left headphone stopped working! Well it is EXTREMELY faint. I cannot stand listening to music with only one side so i began looking for new headphones immediately. Because i was pleased with the quality of the sound i decided to include these in my search for new headphones. Thinking it was going to be an easy v-moda vibe buy again i came to amazon, shocked to see the number of reviews 3stars and under. after reading the reviews i noticed many other people have had this same problem and i decided it wasnt a coincidence that a lot of people were losing sound in the left ear, so i shied away from them and decided to look else where. Unfortunately i could no longer go down to the $50 bass freqs because i both enjoyed the improved sound and they were made by a company with a huge design flaw in a higher grade product. I've decided to buy the Westone UM1's because of their great reviews everywhere.
- Despite having absolutely no interest in cosmetic design of earbuds, I have great interest is functionality and performance, and the Vibes shine in these areas.
Thanks to the (relatively few) negative reviews, I have found several plausible solutions to the cord failures, microphonics and one-side loss of audio for this otherwise outstanding product. I also propose likely solutions to some confusion about tonal characteristics.
Preventing cord failure at the ends
The simplest preventative is minimize movement of the cord. At the 'bud ends, this is easily done by wrapping the cord around the ear instead of just letting it hang (heck, at this price you might even prefer to lose an ear than damage the cord). A big additional benefit of ear-wrapping is that noise from cord movement is practically eliminated.
The durability of the cord at the stress points at the plug and earbuds can be easily improved by applying a small drop of 'Liquid Electrical Tape' (Star Brite, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) for about 2 mm (3/16-inch) along the cord from the existing rubber strain reliefs, using a toothpick. I obtained this from the Ace hardware store for about $5, and have used it successfully for several similar jobs, indoors and out. This liquid vinyl gradually stiffens over time, but retains flexibility and durability similar to that of the existing rubber reliefs. It adheres very well to the black rubber cord, but I can't speak to the clear insulation on some models (although this may not impede its effectiveness). Of course this doesn't make the cord any stronger, but may increase durability by increasing the minimum bending radius.
Fixing loss of sound on one side
Near the bottom of the FAQ on the V-Moda website is the description of this problem being often caused by foreign matter entering the earbud and physically obstructing motion of the transducer. The FAQ recommends blowing gently into the business end of the earbud to clear the obstruction. Perhaps some of the negative raters might have solved their problem this way.
Distorted audio characteristic
The Vibes are the first earbuds that I find allow me to completely disable all equalization and hear much of the definition that the sound engineer intended (when listening to an appropriate sound source*). However, the downside to this level of quality is that the distortion introduced by equalization can become glaringly obvious. Perhaps some who don't observe the richness of the Vibe's audio may be hearing the real effects of some equalization or audio processing they have enabled to improve the sound of weaker devices. Try disabling all equalization and see what happens. I found that most SRS and DFX features, while still functional, tend to obscure the superb definition that these 'buds can otherwise provide. If distortion remains, check for dirty connectors.
* For example, when listening to 'Music Choice' 48-kHz PCM from an SA digital cable box via S/PDIF decoded with the Intel ICH4 AC'97.
- I purchased these in January of 2008 (I'm writing this review on 7/21/08). The headphones for the most part worked, noticed I said worked, fine, but since I use them a lot and they are in and out of my cargo shorts pockets they need to address a very important durability issues. The wire just above where you plug them into your iphone must have broke as only one ear piece works unless you jiggle it and then don't move. I was going to call them, but they don't have a phone number on their website or at least I couldn't find it (that should have been my first clue), so I had to email them only to get a automated reply that they'll contact me. Overall they are very good, but quality and customer service are my most important criteria when choosing products, so I think V-Moda has some work to do here.
If you use your iphone headphones a lot I suggest you save up or spend another $70.00 + and get the Etymotic's HF2's. They have some of the best reviews (they have a phone number) and as an example of impeccible service I had a pair of ER-6i's (white) that had issues and when I called Customer Service they said they changed their end to right angle as they had problems and if I'd mind black instead (which I wanted anyway). Boom less than two days later I had them. IMPORTANT NOTE: These headphones where past the 1 year warranty NOW THAT'S SERVICE!!!
The long and short of it is if you're looking for high quality headphones or iphone headphone/mic combos look no further than Etymotics. You won't be disappointed.

5 comments about Sennheiser PXC 300 Noise Cancelling Headphones.
- This is my first purchase of noise canceling headphones, but the need was urgent as I sit next to a very loud colleague and in-ear headphones weren't cutting it. I find that with the item turned on, the music is a bit louder (though I like having the option of playing music with it) and the a/c or heat sound disappear (not that it ever bothered me) and all you can hear is your music. I still hear the loud cackling laughter occasionally, but overall, I'm able to hear my music without distraction. Even on the airplanes I don't hear the crying babies or people talking since the over-ear cups around to keep all the music in and all the noise out.
I was afraid of the pinching as I was always accustomed to wearing in-ear buds prior to this, but I don't find it painful at all, even after an 8-hour day.
The only negative, which I believe must happen with most noise-canceling devices, is that I occasionally feel pressure building in my head. I'm not sure why this is, but I'd read it before I purchased them, and even though I'm prone to severe migraines, I decided to risk it. I'm glad I did. The migraines have never been triggered, just occasionally and pressure in my head, but again, that's remedied by turning off the noise-canceling feature, and I still feel I hear the music better than with the ear buds.
- I used these in a noisy cubicle environment and was very impressed at how it blocked out people's voices and ambient noise. They don't quite cover your entire ear but pretty close. The cords are nice and sturdy which was great (the Panasonic noise-canceling earbuds i got had very flimsy cords which caused a wiring malfunction).
BUT. After 1 month of daily use and being very ginger with my $220 purchase, I turned on the noise canceling one day and there was a loud, and eventually tortuous, static sound coming from one headphone. With the feature turned off it didn't happen. I returned them hoping for a replacement but I got a refund instead. I may try the similar PXC 250's which were very highly ranked by Consumer Reports. I'm keeping all the original packaging and invoice just in case!!!
- A great, lightweight NC headset. I do a lot of traveling in all types of airplanes, and the 300s keep the noise out while providing excellent sound reproduction. In a jet airliner, the overall effect is terrific. In a turboprop, it is a godsend. The unique folding feature makes the included zipper pouch easy to store. I also like the airliner dual plug adapter, in case I want to watch what's on the airplane's entertainment system.
- Very high performance noise canceling headphones without the bulk. Fairly comfortable to wear even while sleeping.
- This was my first set of noise-cancelling headphones, and I must say, the difference is astounding. Yes, the sound is good - yes, they're portable - yes, they have use-extending adapters, but the real difference is how you feel when you get off the plane.
I find myself much more relaxed, particularly after a long flight, when using these headphones. I've forgotten to bring them along on occasion, and the difference is significant.
I admit to using guinea pigs - I bought them as gifts to clients before buying one for myself. One client reported to me that he already owned a much more expensive set of Bose noise-reducing headphones, but preferred these Sennheisers.
I bought one for myself, and one for my wife. We love them, and leave them on every possible moment on the aircraft.
One tip - make sure you locate the "L" and "R" designations for the correct ear, as putting them on wrong can lead to sore ears.

5 comments about Etymotic ER-4P Portable In-Ear Earphones.
- The 4Ps produce outstanding sound clarity and are far better than the other Etymotic headphones. To the contrary of some of the other reviews, I love them in the gym which is where I have the most opportunity to use my headphones. Occansionally, I would use my Boise Quietcomfort 2 headphones on the ellipitical because I found the sound to be superior to the 6 and 6i headphones from Etymotic. Now, I find myself using the 4Ps all the time in the gym. The sound to me is just amazing. I am hearing nusances in the music better and the sound separation is more distinct in the right and left channels. I was concerned about the noise from the cord based on other reviews and found the 4Ps to be similar to the other Etymotics. Of course, if you block outside sounds from your ear, you will start to hear more sounds traveling from your jaw bone, mouth, etc. but I did not find the cord a big source of sound distraction. The cord is heavy duty compared to the 6 and 6i. The noise comes from the cord above the Y split. For runners, I can see the cord noise would be a bigger issue. Others have complained about the bass because it does require a tight fit in the ear. I did find this to be a problem especially when lifting with my previous Etymotics. I found myself re-inserting the earplugs after lifts to get the seal back. After doing this for 6 months, I broke down and invested in custom ear molds that are fitted to the Etymotics. A great investment that I do not regret. If decide to do this, you might want to call around since I found some price variation from hearing aid dealers or audiologists. I also learned the hard way to store my Etymotics and ear molds in a case after using them and not let them hang from the shirt clip since I lost one this way. The bass is great with a good seal and comfort is outstanding since guess what -- the mold is customized to your ear canel and in my case, I have small ear canels. A side benefit of ear molds that I found is that I went thru fewer filters since there is a gap between the tip of the ear mold and the filter so ear wax gets trapped in this space before it clogs the filter if you clean and squeeze the ear mold to get the wax out. Another issue in previous reviews was that the Etymotics were black which is true but the pair that I got had a red dot on the right channel. The Etymotics web site has been great for ordering extra filters. The other Etymotics I have have worked well for several years so I am looking forward to years of good use with the 4Ps.
- Everything good to say about these 'phones has already been said, and there really isn't much more to say.
These are stellar and absolutely worth every penny and more.
I just wanted to add that there are a number of options to make these even better, which might give some even more incentive to buy them.
One is that there are readily available recable options [...] for these. This will increase SQ even more and will also increase bass response, which is always welcome on Etys.
Another option is the Shure Black Foam Sleeves. They fit perfectly on the ER-4 IEMs and will make your listening experience even better than it already is. They are more comfortable, since you will not have to push the 'phones as far in your ear as with the rubber sleeves that come with them and they also create a perfect seal which is so very important for the Etys to sound right.
Also think about purchasing a portable amp and a 75 Ohm impedance adapter (which will bring the ER-4P to ER-4S specs). The ER-4 really shine like a beacon in the night with a good amp.
- I've had these a couple of years, and am generally pleased with the sound quality. I use these most frequently on an airplane, replacing the excellent but much bulkier Bose QC2 headphones I used to use. Occasionally use at the office, which helps to drown out neighboring conversations. I use the Etymotics exclusively with the foam ear adapters, as I could never get the soft rubber ear adapters to fit my ears properly.
I recently got a chance to preview the Shure SE530's, and found those to be stunningly good sonically, although at a signficantly higher price point. The Shure 530's are also a bit bulkier, but well designed from an ergonomic / looks point of view.
Needless to say, all of the above selections (Etymotic ER-4P, Bose QC2, Shure SE530) are vastly superior to the stock earphones that come with your mp3 player.
My bottom line: pick a price point, and visit some bricks and morter stores that allow you to try them in-ear before purchasing. Top of the line earphones (or headphones) are worth it, but the variation in style and fit make it essential to try them on for size, in-ear fit, looks, sound, and anything that annoys the end user. Don't rush into a $300 set of phones.
- I had a old pair of these before they were stolen. these are good ear phones. I went through 3 pairs for $39.99 head phones that lasted only 6 weeks at a time (skull candys) Those are some trash. But These are really good. If you get a clip or 2 for the wire you can run with these easy. Or get a cheap pair for work outs so you don't ruin the good pair. I am giving these 4 stars and not 5 because. They changed the blue tip and red tip to all black. and the stock ends are gray not white but I think I can order the white ones no biggie. Other then that THESE are GREAT. 2 year warrenty. SWEET.
- These earphones are very accurate and smooth. At times they can sound clinical. I know that this particular model is not supposed to require a headphone amplifier, but it is my opinion that a headphone amplifier really makes a positive difference with these earphones. They continue to sound very accurate, but they have greater bass presence. They still do not have an overly bassy sound like those wretched Bose earphones, but they do sound a touch warmer.
Fit on earphones is absolutely essential. you must have a seal or they just do not perform. Due to the design of the earpieces, they insert deeply into the ear, but not enough to physically damage the innerds of your ear. It does take some getting used to, but it absolutely worth it.
The packaging is really quite nice. I like the fact that they come in a plastic case that is really sturdy. I always put them back in the full case (okay, I am anal), but the package comes with a small traveling case that would fit in a pocket.
Don't be concerned that the headphone amplifier takes to much space. I have a small headphone amplifier that fits with my Ipod Classic (both the 60 gig and 160 gig models)in the breast pocket of a standard Oxford cloth or broadcloth dress shirt (yes it looks nerdy). If the music starts to sound crackly using the headphone amplifier and that crackle is not normally there, it usually means that the headphone amplifier needs a new battery or needs to be recharged.
All in all, I cannot say enough good things about the Etymotic ER4 P and the ER4 S (I have them both)as long as they are supplemented with a headphone amplifier.

5 comments about Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones (Black).
- I've owned earbuds previously that wrap around your ears. I like that type of earbud. I was very disappointed in these Sony MDR-EX81LPs. The sound was good, but no matter what I did, the earbuds would not stay in my ear, nor would they wrap around my ear. They were very annoying.
I will admit that although I am an adult, I do have rather small ears. But there is no way to adjust the part that wraps around your ears (unlike other similar ones I've owned in the past). I did everything I could think of to get these to fit properly to no avail. If I wrapped it around my ear, the bud didn't fit inside properly. And if I put the bud in my ear properly, the "wrap around" part was just flopping beside my ear. I really wanted to make these work, but I just couldn't.
I sent them back to Amazon because they were more than $30 and I didn't want to waste my money.
If you have average to large ears, perhaps these earbuds will work properly for you. I was disappointed that there was no way to adjust them. The way they're designed is very unforgiving -- if your ears don't conform exactly to the way these are made, they will not work for you.
I also bought the V-Moda Bass Freq earbuds (which don't have a wrap-around feature) and I am much happier with those. They're realy comfortable and deliver incredible sound.
Additionally I bought some iLuv i301s. The sound they deliver is rather tinny but since they are inexpensive I will keep them as a "backup" pair.
So far, in my quest for decent iPod earphones, I highly recommend the V-Moda Bass Freq earbuds.
- I had great expectations for this product, earbuds that wouldn't fall out, but I had to return them. The design is faulty, the ear hangers are fixed and should have been made adjustable. When the earbuds are in the ear canal the ear hangers do not rest on the top of the ear and when you position the hangers on your ear the earbuds won't stay in the ear canal. Several people tried them with the same result, in one case, with the earbud inserted in the ear canal, the ear hanger was almost one inch from the top of the ear.
Earbuds (I've tried half a dozen different ones) seem to never stay snug and fall out with almost any activity. The sports-type ear hangers stay in position but can have low sound even with the ipod volume set to max.
Now, I get the fit, volume and sound I wanted using inexpensive Sony MDR-J10 h.ear Headphones with Non-Slip Design (Black) coupled with theUpbeat Audio LLC R234-2 Boostaroo Revolution Amplifier for iPod (Black).
- Very comfortable, even though I usually don't like the in-ear type of headset. Excellent sound reproduction, with plenty bass and just enough highs. I'd recommend them!
- I read a fistful of reviews on this site and others before taking the step to buy these. I'll admit the review at ilounge played a great deal in the decision, also.
Right out of the package they were a great fit...for me. The ear loops were not noticeable because of the soft plastic material they are made of. The quality of the sound was outstanding...clear and precise with not too much bass.
I have hard time understanding all the complaints I read about in some of the reviews: No bass, kept falling out of ears, etc. I recommend them with no reservation... but then again, to each his own.
- I am disappointed after having listened to these Sony earbuds for a while. Very little (if any) bass response and the mid-range seems a bit flat also. It is possible that I have not yet found a proper fit in my ear to experience all these have to offer but so far, I get better sound out of my $10 Seinheissers. If you decide to buy these make an effort to go to a local retailer and listen to them first.

- I've been enjoying a pair of MDR-V6's for the past 7 or so years at the office and was in the market for a pair of comparable headphones for use at home. The MDR-7506's live up to the high expectations set by the MDR-V6's and are even more comfortable for me as the cut out in the pads is larger on the MDR-7506's than the MDR-V6's.
Both sets are very comfortable for extended wear and provide incredible sound reproduction at very low device volumes. The high's are crisp and bright and the low end is pronounced but not over processed or muddy. They also give a fair amount of isolation from the environment, further reducing the need to crank the volume to enjoy your music. They work especially nicely in an office environment as they do not allow much sound to seep out and when taken off, the pads naturally sit against one another blocking out almost all sound for a quick walk away from the desk without annoying those around you.
The headband on these is very forgiving and very comfortable, I tried a pair of Senn's at the store which were comparable in price and sound quality but even at the largest setting they felt like a vice on my temple - these Sony's have sufficient pivot points and give to be very comfortable from the very first use.
- Let me preface this review by saying I'm traditionally more of a speakers guy myself, however a new job in a new city forced me to have to get headphones. I do have a lot of listening time in on some of the industry's most respected phones (Etymotic ER4, Sennheiser HD600, AKG K701, and Beyerdynamic DT-770, for example), however I've just always preferred the open sound and impact that only a great speaker system can give you.
Anyway, let's move on. I needed a set of headphones quick and didn't have a whole lot to spend what with the move and all, so I settled on the 7506 after generally positive reviews from about everybody I asked. I received them in and broke them in for about 48 hours before sitting down with them and starting to run music through them. It's about three months on listening to them every single night and I think I'm ready to write a review.
The first thing you notice is, despite how they look, these aren't flimsy headphones - they use more metal than plastic, yet despite this, they don't feel very heavy, nor do they become uncomfortable quickly. I've got pretty big ears, and I can wear these for hours on end without a problem (which isn't the case with Sony's V600/700).
Moving on to the important part - the sound. The easiest way to explain these headphones is to say they don't have much character of their own. While that may seem like a stab at them, what I'm actually saying is they're very even tonally and don't venture too far away from flat response in their usable range - and speaking of range, the low frequency response is almost mind blowing. I have never heard headphones anywhere near this price that go this low this easily. Even the V700 (which I used to own) couldn't go anywhere near this low at usable volume levels (the V700's are way too bloated in the low regions, which seems to hurt the extension). Also, these headphones are extremely easy to drive, able to crank out high volume levels from portable devices, so for you iPod folks, this is definitely worth checking out.
Now, to nitpick a bit. The pleather earpads, while fairly comfortable, make your ears sweaty after a while in warm environments, and I'm told they wear out fairly quickly, however Beyerdynamic makes a velour pad for their DT250 that's pretty much a direct replacement (and I'm told a bit more comfortable). On the sound, while the frequency response is quite flat, the character of the sound is a bit plump in the lower midbass region, and a bit thin in the midrange - slightly so, but you'll hear the difference as you get into more expensive ($200+) headphones. Also, the headband on mine keep going back to their original positions and I have to keep sliding them back to the 4th click on both sides. Finally, I'm not sure I'm hugely fond of how the cables to the elements themselves extrude out of the frame a bit. Once in a while when I take the headphones off, I hook my finger on there - it doesn't really bother me, but I'm worried about breaking the connection one of these days.
That said, these are a fantastic set of headphones, and I'm convinced they're about the best you can buy for under $100 overall, depending on your tastes (Grado SR60's are a bit darker and groovier with more sting in the highs and Sennheiser HD280's are a bit smoother on top and less analytical overall, at this price point), and the nitpicks aren't enough to stop me from giving these a five-star review.
One last thing: a lot of folks say that these are physically identical to the MDR-V6 (NOT the V600!) except for the stickers on the sides of the enclosures, and there's evidence that supports their theory, however as I've not personally heard the V6, I can't say either way. Would be worth checking out - you might save yourself twenty bucks.
Overall, a great sounding headphone with awesome low frequency extension and high sensitivity for a great price. Highly recommended.
- First of all let me say I don't work in a studio but have tried many pairs of headphones but these are my favorites. I've had the same pair of V600s for over 3 years and loved them but was always interested in owning a professional model of headphones.
After listening to the 7506 I've come to realize how much better they are for accurate sound and a more enjoyable listening experience they give. First of all the vocals and treble are much more noticable and clear. The bass really sounds deep and they feel great.Nice and snug without being too loose or too tight.
They are great for music, movies and video games. They are true classic studio headphones and are a reminder that great sound is accurate sound.
- I am a filmmaker and also do sound and got these about 3 years ago for dialog monitoring. NOT music. These ARE the primary use for these phones. And they are near perfect for that. I know of very very few people in the business who complain about the 7506s for this, their accuracy with the human voice for this price is astounding. And thus why they are the most popular and remain to be for ENG/film (on any budget).
NOW - for MUSIC - shocking quality as well! I've never listened to a MDR V6 because I got the 7506s, I assume overall better. But these headphones for music listening I USE my 7506s almost exclusively (when I use headphones anyways =). The bass is not muddled, so many phones just miss out with the bass, these imo are near perfection for my ears. The mids and highs clear and open imo and good. And the low response heh phones twice the price of 7506s don't reach the level these do (and the reason is because these were made for studio monitoring/dialog levels...)
The DURABILITY of the 7506's are legendary I must say and from experience. I've thought they've been broken so many times and they still live on. Bad long trip accidents when I didn't have a hard case from my sound equipment heh they roll around and even been squashed and come on perfect. A scare when they are folded like the ear piece got bent up, but they weren't! That's why they last, the parts and folds, they may seem flimsy but theirs a method to the "madness". They are light and quality parts.
I've also not had issues with the top quality connector, and the padding? I wear them literally EVERY day for 3 years for both music enjoyment and film/ENG work, and the padding looks nearly new. Really still amazed because I take crud care of these =)
COMFORT - well they are amazingly so. Now they can get sweaty and after hours use well ANY wrap around full ear phones will get bothersome and sweaty. Also adjust easily to fit nearly any head size (assuming you aren't a Ferengi or something =)
CONCLUSION - Really I'd buy another of these in a heartbeat. The price/quality is unmatched imo (for what I do, again primary use isn't music although I use them a lot to listen to music) I am curious to compare myself with the V6s for that reason, but see no need. Also Senns HD models but I know what these phones were made for: it WASN'T music again - important to realize, but for studio/dialog monitoring. They get 5 stars beyond for that. And 4-4.5 for Music too, and thus a total of 5 stars hands down =)
Amazed at the quality/level for music listening. You can get "betteR" sharper mids with some HD models etc. but - they sound fantastic adjust some EQ if want - really and I hardly do that. I rant still but I just love these suckers! One of the best investments I've ever made, and I actually HATE Sony otherwise =D
- I was looking for good sound, portable, comfortable headphones under 100$ with no sound leak so i have tryed also Sennheiser HD280 (very good sound, heavier, very tight), Sony 7505 (very portable, good sound, extremely uncomfortable) or Sennheiser HD 485 (very comfortable, i like sound, but they are leaking) and couple Grado (nice sound, but so leaky).
Comparing to Sennheiser HD280, Sony are lighter and not that much tight means much more comfortable. It's very important. Also You can use them with ipod and there is no volume problem.
Well built, and You can fold them.
Sound: Fat, detail, spaceful - but i'm not an expert. Very similar do Sennheiser HD280 (honestly, i prefer sound from HD280) but Sennheiser is little bit bigger, bulky and tight.
These headphones have no noise canceling, so for example, in Subway You can hear people talking - very annoying.
These headphones are "close", so it means less comfortable then "open" but You can sit in the same room with someone and there is no sound leak at all. Well.
For about 100$ they are the best (It's easy to find nice stuff for more money). I bought them from J&R.
I going to try HD485 now.

5 comments about Koss PORTABLE Replacement Cushions.
- I bought these replacement cushions for my Sennheiser PX100s after I ruined the originals by not using the case it came with when I threw them in my bag and overtime the pads developed holes, became warped, and wouldn't stay on anymore. These cushions fit perfectly fine on my PX100s, and now I'm happy that they are like new again. No more embarrassment of warped cushions falling off your headphones in front of everyone, no more judging!!!
- They should post more of these items for those of us with small diameter headphones because we likely go through many more of these than we would the phones themselves. I use mine in walking for my health and the sweat buildup and such deteriorates these to the point of needing replacement every 3-4 months. I hope to find more of them too.
- I bought these thinking they would cover my ear buds for my ipod. These are way too big for ear buds so make sure they will fit your head phones!
- Replacement cushions in the "throw away" society of 2008 ???
Obviously KOSS builds their headphones to last!!
Most audio gear builders of 2008 make you jump hoops AND/OR
Make you pay out of the "ying-yang" for replacement parts !!
Just goes to show what a great company KOSS is !!!
Great old fashioned thinking of the 70's !!
KOSS & AMAZON-Got to love that combination !!!
- I bought the Koss replacement ear cushions for use on my Sennheiser PX100 headphones and I found that they fit just fine. For three sets of compatible replacement ear cushions for $4.99 plus shipping, I'm very happy with this deal.

5 comments about Sennheiser Rs110 926 Mhz Wireless Rf Headphones.
- I use these headphones everyday on my computer, mainly for music, but occasionally for movies and other things. The sound quality is pretty good for the money; nothing amazing, but I would say good for most listeners. These have very good range and I am able to move anywhere in my house while listening to itunes without and interference or static. Overall, these we're just what I was looking for, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for an inexpensive pair of wireless headphones.
- I received the product in perfect condition and would purchase from this seller again in a heart beat. I purchased three refurbished and one new and all but one set of the refurbished worked fine.
Thanks
- Have been looking for a wireless headphone for long, I've also read a lot bad review about bluetooth connections; Now I find this, great sound for wireless, awesome receive distance, affordable price, exactly fits my need, "wireless + decent sound quality". It's surprising to me that it has a channel switch, which could make it easy to handle interference. I love it!
- I bought this product for use with my computer. It works great, easy setup, very comfortable with good sound quality.

I have some high frequency hearing loss, but not enough to require hearing aids. I purchased this set primarily to enable me to hear clearly the sound from our flat panel TV. They have far exceeded my expectations. The frequency response from high to mid-range to lows is excellent. I love being able to tell my wife to adjust the volume on the TV to whatever suits her best and I adjust the volume on the headphones to my own comfort. The headphones come with two adapters, one mini plug that goes into the headphone jack on the TV (which mutes the external speakers) or you can use the set that plugs into the left and right audio RCA output jacks of the TV which allows the TV speakers to be heard by others. The soft foam covers are comfortable on the ears and the 2 AAA batteries last for many hours of listening.
I told some neighborhood friends how pleased I was with these headphones and offered to let them try them. One couple, each wearing hearing aids, still were having difficulty hearing their TV programs clearly. They were so impressed they have purchased two sets and say they can now hear their favorite programs and movies like never before. Another friend nearby wears hearing aids, tried these and also purchased a set and is totally pleased with them. The one fact they appreciate is that they can use these headphones without removing or adjusting their hearing aids. There is no feedback or squealing as often is the case with hearing aids; probably due to the foam covers rather than a sealed cup around their ears.
The fact that they are wireless allows one to move about and not be restricted by an attached cord. They do tend to slip forward on my head when leaning down, but I consider that to be only a minor detraction. And of course they can be used with a music system, allowing you to roam from room to room while enjoying excellent fidelity.
Have now gifted two more sets to relatives in another state.

- For something this cheap, it's amazing!! I'm very pleased with this product. I bought just an adapter with nothing else at Radio Shack last week for $10. It didn't work well at all, so I found this with way more features for cheaper. I'm taking back my adapter tomorrow.........who needs Radio Shack??
- It worked great with my Blackjack II. I like that I can use any headphones I want and still use it for a hands-free talking on the phone device or just for listening to music.
- Headphones broke immediately-speaker grill seperated from the backing.
The adapter works with any set of headphones.
Works great with Blackjack II.
Does what it claims to do.
- I have to say...while the earbuds were cheap and hurt my ears and the wires were a bit too long, this is a great deal. It works very well with my a737, and the music quality is almost as good as my ipod's. What I like most about this, though, is that you can choose what earbuds to use, and if the earbuds happen to break, you're still able to use the adapter.
