  1. These are very cute and have good sound quality. The padded part tends to come off, and it is hard to get it back on. Overall, though, I am satisfied with the product.

  1. Comfortable and work well. Good sound quality. Much superior to the original iPod ear buds.

  2. These earbuds like most other sound isolating earbuds I have tried can be annoying to wear if you are moving around a lot. Since the earbuds make a tight seal inside your ear, any movement in the cable will be conducted through to your ears. Therefore, I would not recommend these for wearing during a workout. This is not a fault of these earbuds alone but every pair that I have ever tried, so I will not knock these earbuds on that basis. That being said these are great earbuds, just don't buy them for jogging.

The sensitivity of these buds is much better than my standard iPod earbuds and several other aftermarket earbuds that I have tried (Panasonic, Altec Lansing, Phillips). I have probably tried 5 or so different sets of earbuds in the $20-$40 range over the last few years and after a little break-in time and finding the right size gel pad (3 sizes are included) to fit your ears these easily blow them all away. The bass, midrange and high end are all good. These really shine in the bass and low mids compared to most other earbuds and since they are so sensitive you can keep the volume lower and save battery life on your player. You will hear things that you have never heard before in your music, especially if you are using the standard issue buds.

Since there are 3 different gels to choose from as far as fit, these are also more comfortable for long listening sessions then other earbuds I have tried. They also offer good sound isolation, so these are great for work or in a moving vehicle.

They are light in your ears, light on your battery and light on your wallet while providing excellent sound. Give them a little break-in time and you will love them... I did.

  3. OK guys, heres a review from nobody... these things are proply beltaz!!! the sound quality is unparalelled by any other in ear headphones, i owned a pair of sony's way back when, they were 90 british pounds, uncomfortable and the bass was overwhelming. i have owned various pairs of cheaper in-ears and most of the time they were tinny and near unbearable to listen to on high volume. i have owned a few pairs of neckbands. . . sony and phillips, the phillips being the better of the two in the same price range, but both allowing far too much outside noise in, absolutely no good for public transport.
Alright, on to the SC's they get four stars because 4 and 3/4 isnt an option. the only beef i have is that i keep losing the smallest size earpiece(my fault but you cant just buy replacements, therefore i am on my third set [gona glue it this time.])
with these things in, you can listen to your music at half the volume of any neckband headphones and not hear a damn thing anyone is saying to you and they wont hear an annoying mosquito-ish noise.
the sound quality is something you would expect from a high dollar pair and although sound can travel through the cable during heavy movement, i barely notice it.
i would advise not to pay more than 12 dollars for them cos they are probably on sale at your nearest electronics store for the same, if not less. (last pair, sam goody $8)
Honestly... someone you know will probably have a pair, give em a try and you will be impressed.
hope this helps, i really cant sy enough good things about em.
    peace.

5 comments about Nike HJ080 Skylon Flight Metal 3-way Sport headphones.
  1. The earclip hinges were a bit loose out of the box. After I tightened them (torx t6 screws) they worked well, and stayed put. They are all metal so are quite heavy, about 0.5 oz each - for comparison my iPod Nano 2G weights about 1.45 oz. The metal seems to help with the sound quality, which I found to be very good. They have quite a wide frequency response (8-24000 Hz) for `phones in this price range. I use them for running, and haven't had any problem with them falling out of my ears, and they're comfortable for me. The wire connection to the earbuds seems a little flimsy, and the wires tend to tangle more than other headphones I've had. Other than that, they're great!

  2. My first pair of headphones for my new iPod were the Sennheiser OMX70s. Out of the box I loved these headphones. The color and the build were both very appealing to me and very cool. However, once I started to workout on the treadmill, they began to fall out of place.

I could not live with that so I returned then and tried the Nike Skylon headphones. All I can say is "WOW!"

These fit my ears perfectly and sound great. Although some have complained about the weight of them, this has not impacted me. I wear them for 1 - 1.5 hours at a time and have not felt they were getting heavy or bothering me a bit.

I would highly recommend these as a set of headphones to try.

  3. I was so happy when I purchased these headphones that I told all my friends to go out and buy them. They were comfortable, attractive, and they didn't fall out of your ears when running. Since I am a runner a lot of headphones have attendancy to slip out when you get sweaty. I quickly became disappointed when I took them on the treadmill and realized that you are constantly getting shocked from the metal and the tread from the treadmill. It doesn't really hurt but it definitely creates an annoyance. The other problem is that after about 2 months of using them with my ipod the wire connection started getting disrupted and the music would go in and out to the point where I thought my ipod was broken. When I told a friend who also has these headphones that my ipod was broken she mentioned that the same thing had happened to her and all she did was switch out the headphones. So my excitement for these headphones quickly dwindled to disappointment and I am currently searching high and low for some athletic headphones that last.

  4. I bought these headphones at Target for $50, hoping to get a comfortable, decent sounding pair of earphones... I was extremely disappointed, no, shocked, at the pitiful sound quality from these earphones! It was so obvious that I didn't even need to compare them against other earphones to immediately realize the lack of sound quality. I had already been suspicious when I noticed that Nike did not put any specifications whatsoever regarding the driver of the earphones anywhere on the box, and I quickly realized why. A good set of earphones should provide adequate bass... these immediately sounded "tinny". Upon turning up your iPod to maximum, the sound is completely distorted as if it's blowing out the earphones drivers.

Next, I compared these headphones against my iPod Touch's factory earphones, a $15 pair of Sony over the ear style earphones, and an ordinary pair of headphones under $20.

The $15 pair of Sony earphones, completely blew the Nike's out of the water. And I wouldn't say that the Sony earphones were good either, these were the cheapest Sony earphones that Target sells. That's how bad these Nike's were! Also, with all of the other "cheap" headphones, not one of them experienced the horrible distortion that the Nike's did when turned up to max.

I returned the Nike's to Target about an hour later, so I can't comment much on comfort as I didn't wear them more than 10 minutes. I was surprised though to discover how HEAVY these headphones are, they're made out of metal. I would imagine the extra weight would be an annoyance to your ears, and would make them staying in place even more difficult when moving or jogging... I don't know that from experience though, it just seems common sense.

So in summary, Nike has put an extremely cheap earphone component not worth a dollar, into a very attractive looking product. They have decided to sell you on appearance, and if you're like me you might fall for it. I should have trusted with my initial doubts when I noticed the absence of all specifications on the box. If you still want to buy these, make sure you buy them in a store and not online, so it's easier for you to return them.

  5. I would give them 0 stars of that was an option. I am a serious runner and marathoner. I decided to splurge for the more expensive "sweat resistant" Skylon metal headphones. The first pair broke in less than a week. I bought a second pair. I wish they would break as well. Their weight makes them unusable for any rigorous workout. They might be ok if you jog slowly or walk, but not if you run. don't waste the money. Nike can (and should) do better.

  1. I ave owned the DT770 PRO's for about a year and a half now and have NO problems with them. They produce a very clear sound stage and when it comes to the different levels, bass is on the heavier side (which I like), the mid's are very decent and you can hear the changes when you have a high-end sound card on your computer, then trouble which is very clean and clear.

I have had these headphones at all the different volume ranges and they handle them all like a PRO. I currently have a Sound Blaster XFi Platinum Edition and it suits these headphones very well.

Basically, if you are looking for a great sound for gaming, listening to music on a liesure level or just wearing them since they are so comfortable and you need to drown out some of the noise around you, these are a great pair of cans!

If you are looking for a VERY highly detailed set of cans, I would not recommend these, these are not reference headphones so if people rate them as they were, I would have to disagree with them since that is not what was meant for these by BeyerDunamic. If you are looking for reference headphones, go AKG or Grato's.

  2. I just bought a pair of these today and felt compelled to write a review. From Badly Drawn Boy to Al Green to Bartok's quartets (I can actually hear the players clothes ruffle now as they shift around), everything is incredibly articulate. The sound leaked out and in is very minimal, and I don't get the discomfort I usually get after putting on those noise-cancelling headphones. I know nothing about the technical aspects of these headphones (they're supposed to be good, technically), but from an outside perspective, they're amazing. I'm using them on my iPod, so the DRAWBACKS are immediately apparent: they're huge, and the chord is ridiculously long (3m?). Oh and another thing, with deep bass, sometimes my head feels like it's throbbing (this might be the only real drawback for me). I probably won't use them while walking around in public, but I suspect they'll be awesome/impressive to use at a cafe or anywhere I'll be sitting for an extended period of time. These headphones made my day. The best comparison I can come up with is to a Leica camera. In my estimation, both have minimal distortion (in different respects); as Leica optics are incredibly faithful to what you see (what you see is what you get), with these headphones, what I hear seems to be what was there in the studio with no frills--so if you're listening to a bad singer, these babies will let you know.

  3. IN SHORT,THESE ARE THE BEST 'PHONES I'VE OWNED TO DATE.I'LL ADMIT THAT I HAVE NOT HEARD SIMILAR OFFERINGS BY ULTRASONE,AKG OR GRADO ,BUT BASED ON MY TIME WITH THESE,I CAN SAY THAT THEY ARE SUPERB.I AM FORTUNATE TO OWN THE 80 OHM VERSION WHICH IS KINDA RARE.THAT BRINGS ME TO THE ONLY DOWNSIDE OF THESE.AT 250 OHMS THE BEYER'S ARE VERY HARD TO DRIVE WITHOUT A GOOD HEADPHONE AMP.i HAVE A SET OF 64OHM SENNHEISER HD280 PRO THAT I CAN JUST BARELY USE WITH AN IPOD,MY 80 OHM BEYER'S...FORGET IT.SO ANYONE PURCHASING THIS VERSION FOR USE WITH AN MP3 PLAYER OR OTHER SMALL DEVICE,BE WARNED.YOU WILL NEED AN AMP.OTHERWISE GREAT HEADPHONES.

  4. I've had a steady progression of audio equipment as the years have gone by, especially in regards to headphones. I work in a social environment with a lot of ambient noise, so my goal was to find a full-sized earphone that I could wear for long periods of time while sealing outside noise away from my music.

My last pair of headphones were the Pioneer HDJ-1000's. They lasted me for almost 2 years, but were uncomfortable and a little lacking in the mids / treble area.

After doing research all over the place (especially at [...]) I decided to try the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro's. The jump was from around ~$[...] to ~$[...] in price from the Pioneer's to the Beyer's. I was hesitant, but after reading the majority of the comments on this very page I decided to take the jump and purchase them.

The result? I could not be happier.

These headphones are PRECISELY what I've been looking for. The sound reproduction is amazing, and gets even better when you add a headphone amp. The treble and mid-range are extremely full, you really do pick up new notes and tones in music that were never there before.

I listen to an eclectic mix of music and these headphones can run the whole gambit of genres. From Chopin to DJ Shadow, Counting Crows to the Gorillaz. It's all great.

The ONLY bad thing I can say about these is how clearly they separate high-quality recordings from lower quality. It makes you just want to listen to the best of the best in audio quality.

To recap, yes these headphones are expensive but if you're ready to make the jump to studio quality sound with some nice bass punch, these are a fantastic buy.

  5. As a radio professional, I demand headphones that are going to give faithful sound reproduction with solid construction. You're putting them on and taking them off every four minutes, and have a cord to walk around and try not to trip over for your other tasks. No matter how religious I've always been about being gentle with them, until I tried Beyer-Dymanics, every single pair I've ever owned has let me down within ten months. Either the wiring cuts out on an ear, and/or a studio mishap sends parts flying.

I've owned my DT770s for over five years. Best investment I've ever made, as headphones go.

  1. I owned the prior version of these ear phones and can honestly say these are a nice step up in sound quality and bass. For the money, you can't beat them and they're great for taking to the gym.

  2. No surprises. Good sound quality for the price, good fit, very convenient carrying case. A definite improvement over stock iPod buds.

There are quite a few of such buds available here, including some from AKG, Beyerdynamic, etc. What I liked about these and why I chose them over the others is that their entire surface is plastic, including the grille - no metal mesh to get bent during the inevitable rough treatment.

4 stars, to fight that grade inflation - a really decent product, recommended 100%, just nothing exceptional about it.

  1. These are the most incredible headphones I have owned (two pairs of Shures, Phillips, Sony, Skullcandy). Incredible sound at low volumes - classical and punk alike sounded awesome. The only drawback - very hard to fit. The "speaker" is quite large and the rubber earpieces are very thin - makes for a hard and somewhat uncomfortable fit, BUT these headphones ROCK.

5 comments about LTB HSMT-UD True 5.1 USB Headphone.
  1. It's unbelievable that these headphones cost only 35 dollars. I purchased them thinking that there had to be a catch, such as shoddy construction or poor sound quality. The reality is the opposite. These headphones sound great, and are the simplest computer peripheral you'll ever install.

To get started, I plugged in the USB cord, and waited for about five seconds. And that was it. For testing, I opened a 5.1 dolby digital DVD of "War," and the separation was immediately apparent. These headphones can also put out quite a bit of bass, which is something that can't be said about most sets. Remember, even though there are headphones that promise even more bass than these can deliver, they will damage your hearing if you turn them up enough to hear the difference anyway.

I did notice that the default center channel volume is low, but that can be easily remedied in software. I set the center to +11db in Windows and everything worked great.

An excellent product. Try these before wasting hundreds of dollars on headphones that promise to deliver a lot but provide no or only marginally better performance.

  2. And here's why.

Well, I must have the smallest head in the world. I'm a woman, 5'4" and what I consider a normal sized head. I put these headphones on the smallest possible measurement and the JUST almost are small enough for my head...a child could NOT use these. It's ignorable...will get used to it.

Sit ON the ears? - Nope not for me! I also must have the smallest ears on the planet because these ear pieces sit mostly AROUND my ear / which is fine, but not what I'm used to. Doesn't impact the sound quality of course. Just something for me to get used to...uh huh. I thought they would be smaller - but they are at least 3 inches plus a smidge long and at least 2 plus a smidge inches wide. Okay, maybe my english lit professor WAY back in high school had a BIG head and BIG ears, but I'm talking - I'm just a normal sized woman. Okay, I guess its surround the ear for me...

Happy with length of cord - at least 6 feet or more...plenty long.

BUT - can't adjust the volume on the headset itself - I knew about that before buying so just making note her for you - that is okay. Plenty loud for me.

VERY lightweight - which is good - because I think this is a pretty bulky set of headphones. The ear pieces kind of swing almost completely around in their holders...this way and that - doesn't bother me but I sure notice it when I take it off. You have to "arrange" the ear pieces properly each time you put them on. Okay...

No mircophone - yes yes, I knew this when I bought them and I didn't want one, so this isn't necessarily bad, just something to note about this...it is not a headSET (w microphone) it is only headPHONEs. So be aware of that.

The sound - AMAZING and worth the money - really - honest.
Easy to plug and play - into my windows XP - no installation process.

So that's it. In a LARGE nutshell. I'm happy with them...wish the earpeices were smaller, didn't flip around like a carnival ride when I take them off, wish volume control was on the cord...somewhere/no mute feature either oh and one more thing...

It has this large BLOB of plastic on the cord about 2 feet from the USB plug in...the cord hangs from my desk and the plastic BLOB thing hangs there too. No bother to me, but kind of wierd.

I don't sound very happy with this product - but I'm actually okay with it. If you just want a headset with great sound - take into account all I've said about this item (all true) and consider the size of your head...(are you a Sally Field sized head - if so, it will feel a little big on yea - or a Mohammed Ali sized head - if so might be on the ear for you/when stretched all the way out just the right size for your head)...

I suggest buy this - anyway. I researched the logitech types and if I ever need a microphone also, I'll buy one of those, but I didn't like the leather on the ears/too hot - this set has a nice soft foam and is very lightweight with good sound. Those are the good points.

Happy I bought? Yes. Can live with the small "inconveniences" I discovered - since most are individualized to my pessonal likings anyway.

    Thanks for reading.

  3. I bought those headphones because I wanted to experience more than the actual stereo sound that 98% of the world use. Even with the boom of the mp3 players (where we brought down quality sound), we then care only on HD for our eyes (HDTV ...).

I brought them to the office, and ohhh my god, what a mistake... the sound was so clear and going around my head that I could not concentrate at all, so I had to take them back to my place, where I enjoyed them very much.

You don't have to install any driver at all, just plug it in your USB and you are done. You don't have to modify anything at your MP3 player, the little box that has an orange tag does everything for you, somehow it divides the sound in 5.1 channels.

If you have a divx 5.1 movie, for example I have DJ Tiesto Concert with 5.1 audio; you will experience the concert as if you were there. It is amazing.

You will never regret the expense of a few bucks for these headphones, believe they are worth the price.

I am not telling you that these headphones are the number 1 headphones of the world, but the experience is close as when you saw your first 1080p HD movie and you were used to standard 480p movies.

  4. I bought these for $35 locally at "altex" so I saved a bit on shipping. I bought these to watch DVD movies via the computer. As far as the headphones, they are pretty good for the price. The sound is great, sounds like surround sound to me. There is also noticeable bass. (Doesnt make your whole body rumble like a true theater surround sound system though.) They are also light and very comfortable.

The issues; The main issue is that they are not compatible with pretty much everything except computers. (USB plug only) They wont work with Playstation, (PS2 for sure. (despite the USB port)) stereo receivers, IPOD, MP3 players, phones, etc. So check with an LTB support rep if youre not sure if these will work with something you have. There is no sound control on the headphones. Lots of wire. (Almost too much) I think there could also be software included with these headphones to allow more audio adjustments. (Rather just the windows interface.)

Still, these are $30-$40. Seeing that headphones cost as much as $500, they are a good "cost vs. quality" buy. If you have more money to spend, I would get the wireless ones. If you do choose to buy these, note that you must go into the windows control panel and switch the sound to 5.1 surround. You must do this on each USB port. Once you do this though, you shouldnt have to change the settings again.

  5. The sound quality on these is excellent.
They are clear, crisp, bass just right. Good surround effects.
No volume control from the headphones.

    Compared to decent stereo headphones:

Music: 8 - they are good but not as good as high quality headphones.
but then again for that price you will not get much better.
Gaming: 8 - nice surround sound. Not as good as a 5.1 speaker setup. The directional effects are ok. Not all games sound the same. Better than ordinary stereo headphones.
Movies: 9 - Amazing! Ambient sounds excellent, all around surround. Surpass ordinary headphones. Looks like the center speakers are probably too small. They lack bass or any decent frequency response.
I tried to get in touch with LTB regarding this several times but did not receive any reply.

It's important to configure them correctly in order to enjoy them.
    1. In Windows, Advanced Audio Properties, set them up to 5.1 speaker setup.
    2. I use ffdshow to decode AC3 and DTS for movies.
In the ffdshow audio decoder configuration, enable the mixer.
set it up to 3/2/1 - 6 channels
Then check the custom matrix. Change the C (Center) column from 0, 1 0 for Left, Center and Right to 0.35, 1 and 0.35. This way the center speaker is also redirected to the Left and Right speakers which have better frequency response. Far from perfect and in some movies still annoying.

Yes, I would recommend these headphones.
If it wasn't for the lack of support from LTB I would have given them 5 stars.

  1. Over all this is a great product when i first got it I was pleased although the white part around the speaker is not rubber like the normal apple ear buds that you get with an ipod. when you plug this peice into your ipod or other Mp3 it dosent always get a clear sound, you have to twist the plug around in the outlet in order to get better soud quality.Aside from the setback I have no regrets in purchasing this product.

  2. Yeah, they are so cute...that's my favorite color...but that is it when it comes to these headphones. It sounds like your music is in a box and that is never any fun, especially when it comes to the bass in hip hop or R&B...you miss out if the beat is important to the song! But anyway, I don't have an iPod so I don't know if they are made just for them and that's why they sucked, so just buy at your own risk!

  1. I bought these about 3 months ago to work out with...I can't exactly run with my SkullCandy Cans (which I love...hence why I tried these buds). I hate the apple buds (not the sound...but they kill my ears). These buds are very comfortable...they sound very good (good bass and treble)...cancel most ambient noise...good length on the cords...and they look great with the different color options. I have used more expensive buds (Sony and Shure)...I can honestly say for most people...these will do just as well. I highly recommend.

  2. Sound isolation is very important as a commuter and a student. This is the first thing I noticed about these when I put them in my ear: immediate isolation. Its good enough to drown out bus sounds, conversations, and general noise with a little bit of music. It really saves your ears, because you can keep the volume low-medium and still hear it clearly.

Sound quality is great, it does not breakup in lower or higher frequencies and has excellent bass response.

Only problem is, if you're eating something while wearing this, the crunching noise reverbrates through your entire head and can be heard audibly with the earphones in.

  3. These work great! They are the perfect size for my ears and extremely comfortable. I can usually hear people running on the treadmill next to me, however not with these headphones. They block out any unwanted noise and have a great sound quality to them.
