5 comments about AKG Semi-Open Foldable Headphones - K24P.
  1. this review is fed from another link
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product//B000S4YX10/ref=cm_rv_thx_view/002-9983670-4673649
I wanted to buy this headphones for a while everytime I stopped by jandr store
    and finally I bought one
plugged into my pda to play some music, seems it has very good bass effect (I couldn't judge the sound due to excessive noise on the street)
when I listen audio files on the computer (160-192kbps ogg vorbis), I am pretty impressed for the excellent sound
the bass can go to very deep and clean without muffling the entire sound, mid
and high are pretty clear and easily distiguishable every details
the headband is like Koss Potrapro, that you need to extend before putting on
I personally like the sound of the headphones, and also suitable for serious listening
bass lovers will like the clean, resonance-free bass
I give 99/100, no main complain (I just wish it has 6.3mm adaptor and earpads)

  2. I recently purchased the AKG K24P headphones after my stock Sony Earbuds broke. There are always good and bad things about every product you'll buy - so, you have to weed out all the useless crap you might read that are written by consumers vs. audio equipment professionals.

Musical Preferences: Jazz (vocals and instrumentals), rock, alternative, world, popular, bossa nova, techno, and classical. I'm not into metal or country. I own a nice home stereo system (Aragon power amp, Magus tube pre-amp, California Audio CD Player, Acoustic Energy Speakers).

Product Description: The AKG K24P headphones have semi-open speakers, foldable, and a metal headband. The appearance is on the "cheap" side - made mostly of inexpensive/lightweight plastic. The cord leading to the separate headphones was unusually twisted out-of-the box. The cord does have a 90 degree plug (a plus), but no built in volume control (a negative, because some songs are louder than others). As others have complained - the metal headband is too tight out-of-the box. The headphones hurt my ears after about 5 minutes. No big deal. I just bent the metal headband and they are fine now. The headpones are on-the-ear types. They do not go around the ear like circumaural headphones do. Circumaural headphones and in-the-canal insert-type headphones do a better job of sealing out background noise. The headphones have a sensitivity of 125 db - which basically means they're pretty efficient. In other words, you won't need much power to make the music loud. Works great on my laptop and on my IPOD. On my laptop - I had to turn the volume almost all the way down.

I broke the headphones in for 75 hours using randomly played songs through my IPOD.

Listening Impression: The headphones are fairly neutral. By that I mean that it doesn't appear to favor or emphasize any part of the music per se. For example, my Sony earbuds were very "bright" or "tinny"; which emphasized high pitch notes. I characterize the sound of the Sony earbuds as being very "harsh."

The AKG K24Ps definately have more bass than the Sony earbuds. It was a fairly clean, punchy, but still somewhat lightweight for bass notes. If you're heavy into the beat of the music - you'll probably like other headphones better.

The K24Ps midrange response is very good - so, vocals are really nice to listen to.

Imaging: I have never found headphones that image as well as a good set of speakers. By "imaging", I mean that if you close your eyes and listen to the music - you can tell where individual instruments are playing or where the vocalist is standing. My Acoustic Engergy speakers do an awesome job with this (assuming that the quality of the recording is good). I haven't found a set of headphones that can image well. I believe the reason is because proper "imaging" requires reflections off surfaces in your listening area - and that sounds must arrive at each ear w/ small time delays. I know I'm getting to technical here - so, feel free to skip this part.

Bottom Line: The K24Ps are very good headphones for the money. I paid about $25 including S&H. They definitely outperform my Sony Earbuds. I don't know how durable these headphones are because I've only had them for a month. I give this product 4 stars because they don't sound nearly as good as my Acoustic Energy Speakers. I would characterize the K24Ps as "smooth" and easy to listen to. If you're heavy into bass, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a fairly neutral set of headphones - then look no further.

  3. A friend of mine compared these with the $140 Bose headphones, and we both thought these were much better, with crisper highs and drums that sounded less dull, with more "smack" to them. They are not isolating headphones but since they sit on the ear you can hear more of what's going on around you. They sound way better than the cheap earbuds that come with Ipods, you'll be impressed! And for the price they're a steal!

  4. These are the best headphones you will find for portable players. The five stars are because these cans sound every bit as good if not better than cans costing several times as much. They produce deep clean bass and shimmering highs with no compromise. The lab grade sensitivity allows you to listen at very low levels. This can both extend battery life as well as often lowering the s/n ratio of your player. One thing people never mention when reviewing headphones is the wind rush and stethoscope effects. These suffer from neither! A strong breeze has almost no effect making them great for outdoor use! I am VERY happy with mine.

  5. the sound that comes out of these things is superb. Bass, mids, highs, detailed sound, its all there. Other reviewers complained about the comfort of the metal band that goes around the head. I found them to be quite comfortable in that regard, I couldn't even feel those 2 outcroppings (which are cushioned) that slide up and down the metal band as you adjust for head size. My head is big, I'm a man, and I have average hair length for a man. the only thing for me comfort wise is that the headphones put pressure on the ears and its most noticeable when I first put them on but then I forget about it and then they are quite comfortable. They do seem to be somewhat fragile as far as being able to be rough with them goes, they are sturdy for casual use but i wouldn't force them into places that they don't belong in. I think that in 99.9 % of situations you should be fine. I would travel with them, I would backpack with them (I just wouldn't sit on my backpack with my headphones stored in there.). Also if they were stored in a school backpack with heavy books where the books weren't secured and I threw my pack around a lot that might break them also. Otherwise enjoy these great sounding headphones! I recommend them highly.

  1. I bought a similar one year ago. But the left phone was just broken. I found this one is the only one on sale on amazon.com

It is actually improved for its mobility, since a clip added on phone. I hope it will last for more than one year.

I use ear phone every day.

  2. These earphones have perfect sound quality and most importantly they stay in your ear while you run! I have tried other headphones, but these are easily worth the cost. Since my personal purchase I have bought them twice as a gift. I will warn you to make sure you're careful with them. The earbud will unclip from the wiring.

  3. Waste of money, didnt fir my ear very well, and not that great o sound

  4. I like the quality of sound, but the Earphones do not stay in your ears well. For an item designed to stay in your ears, Sony really missed on these!

  5. The product is ok but is a little large for my ears and slightly uncomfortable. the covers come off to easily. This is a mediocre product. good sound quality though.

  1. I ordered a pair of these to use at the gym with my iPod and also with a music system we jack into while spinning. They sound great. I treat them very well but I can't believe that people use these while doing extreme sports.

I have gone through two pair in 4 months. The volume control failed in the first pair. Skullcandy replaced them but it took forever. They never reply to your e-mails or website comments which is why I gave them 1 star.

The second pair also started to fail at the volume control. So I used DeoxIt on them and that cleared it up. Don't sweat on the volume control or you will have to clean it with something because it will start to have spots that don't work and sound will drop out. After about 1 month of use the jack failed. I would have to twist the cord to get them to work.

Now this is just from using them at the gym. Not skateboarding or snowboarding or any of the stuff they show the guys on their website doing.

When you do the second RMA, they hassle you with they don't cover accidental damage. They make you send the entire pair in this time. Then you wait 4 weeks and hassle them with e-mails and on their website and they never respond but they finally ship you a new pair. So 6 weeks after I sent them in I get a new pair.

I'm sure these will break just as soon as the last pair. But for what they cost I will keep sending them and hassling them. These don't even last as long as a cheap $10 pair. I could buy 6 pairs of those for what these cost.

  2. Sound quality is better than the standard issue iPod ear buds, but have to say they do not exactly rock my world like better quality ear phones. OK if you want a small upgrade.

  3. I really expected to have the button that allows you to take phone calls and skip forward songs, but this doesnt have it. Its just a pair of headphones. No microphone, no shortcut button. Just fits into the IPhone jack. I wouldn't have bought them if I knew this, but they are decent headphone so I am going to hang onto them as backup. Still, I am pretty disappointed. Should have done more research, I know.

  4. Just because these headphones come with three different sizes of rubber covers, doesn't mean they'll stay in. The design requires them to fit into the ear canal; there's no place for the cord to rest and stay put. They're useless for any activity other than sitting quietly at your keyboard because if you move around, they'll fall out. I rigged something up with an old over-the-ear piece, but its the equivalent of taping your glasses together, i won't wear these in public.

  5. La calidad de sonido es muy buena el unico detalle es el estuche para guardarlo, podian haber hecho algo mas facil de usar, es muy tedioso guardar los audifonos en dicho estuche, uno pierde mucho tiempo.

  1. The sound is excellent. The build quality is heavy duty. The wiring is solid. The fit is tremendous. Due to the different style and size of earpieces, I was able to achieve a seal which allows the bass to come throught very well.

I knocked it down one star because it does not have a good midrange. In all fairness to the product, I do not believe that a solid midrange is intended for this product. It is not meant to achieve a "blend" of sound. I believe that the earphone is designed to be for performance musicians who want to hear a clear separation of sound between instruments rather than a blended sound which is what most casual listeners would want. For a more blended sound with the fit that comes with the Shure earphone products, I would recommend a 530(three driver) or 420(two driver)earphone. The prices on Amazon and Amazon Marketplace are really quite competative.

These earphones are well packaged with the right accessories to help you use them "on the move" and to achieve a good fit in the ear. They are very comfortable to wear and achieve isolation through passive exclusion of outside sounds. The cables do not seem too susceptible to vibration noise. This is a good thing.

Lastly, as with all Shure products, I believe that it is a well made product. I would always recommend using a headphone amplifier to enhance the sound and make the earphone perform to its best level.

  2. I have the shure E2 too, so I can compare.
The sound is incredibly better, really amazing.
They have more headroom, more presence and more lows.
The clarity its almost the same, but they sound really nice.
The only thing is that I find them not too comfortable to wear. In my opinion the E2 are much more conmfortable.
Another thing is that the cable looks different in the pictures. Its not as pretty as looks in the photos.
But if you dont care, buy them.

  1. I have had these a week now and am EXTREMELY pleased ! And no, I'm not a "younger person", lol. Mid 40's and lUv my muZic. I have bought a handful of different earbuds and small headphones for my mp3 players and haven't really liked any of them. Earbuds kill your ears after an hour or so and never really fit both my ears, as they are different IDs. Plus I like to be able to hear what is happening around me.
Use these outside and inside, while in my workshop, sitting at the lake, on the deck, rolling around in the yard and while surfing. I'd use them while riding my handcycle but I don't want to sweat all over them.

They are VERY comfortable, very lightweight, excellent sound quality, ya don't have to set the volume high to hear all the instruments/frequencies either. I listen to all types of music and they ALL sound great on these. Wiring is flexible AND high quality. They are WELL BUILT, fold up and stow in minimal space. Oh yeah, they look cool as well, ya don't have to be a teenager to appreciate THAT... most of us, anyway.
    John

  2. I think everyone else has the headphone specs covered, so I just wanted to comment on the MacRed color, which currently sells for a spectacular $20.93 here. It's a muted warm plum color with a metallic sheen, which is far better than the fire engine red I thought I was going to get. I would get this color even if it weren't the cheapest one available.

To add a bit to the specs, the sound quality is rich, clear, and very satisfying. The headphones also fit somewhat loosely and awkwardly on my head when I wear my glasses, so I wouldn't strongly recommend this if you usually wear thick framed glasses. The whole thing is made of light plastic, but I expected that from small headphones like these. Overall, I'm really pleased with these headphones.

  3. I just received my pink Lowrider headphones in the mail today and was pretty excited. That excitement went right down the drain as soon as I put them on. I was expecting exceptional bass and sound and to be honest, that isn't what I got. These headphones were replacing some I bought from the Dollar Store (yes, you heard that right) and the ones from the Dollar Store had MORE bass than these. I feel like I have wasted my money. Although the sound is clear, it just isn't perfect and if these didn't cost 30 dollars (and I hadn't ordered them online) I would gladly switch back to my Dollar Store headphones. Even messing with the equilibrium settings on my iPod Classic didn't do much. If you're looking for exceptional bass quality, believe me, these AREN'T for you. I'd buy them for cheap but not for the price they're asking. It's just not worth it. AND, they keep falling off of my head and they're at the smallest width possible.

    At least they're cute.

  4. These headphones are sweet to look at, but not so hot on functionality. They fit fine, but I'm disappointed in volume quality and control. Your money could be put to better use ... Sony, Bose or such.

  5. I really love this product from Skullcandy! It hits hard with the bass, as well as delivering well on rock songs as well. It is a great, all-around headphone.

My one beef is that they do fall off fairly easy. Look down, and they are on the floor. I wish it took a little more to get them to come off.

I love the portable fold option that these are made with, but it does such sometimes taking them from around my neck, since the part that bends sometimes catches my hair. Not necessarily the worst thing, but sometimes can be annoying.

Overall a great product from Skullcandy. These are probably my favorite headphones that I own.

5 comments about Shure PA910M Replacement Black Foam Sleeves (Medium) for Shure SE210, SE310, SE420, SE530 and SE530PTH Earphones.
  1. A very good review of the shure plugs by boofer. I agree on all
boofer's ratings expect that the sound quality of these black ones is as
good as the yellow ones. But like he/she mentioned, the size is as important
too. For me, the medium ones fit very well. I have a stock of both these
foam ones. I use the yellow ones majority of the time - inside my office.
For my serious music listening hours, I switch to the black ones.

  2. I ordered this Sleeve for my Shure SE530. And let me tell you, what a difference. The sound is much better and the lows are very clean and accurate with this sleeve. Reduce the outside noise a lot so you don't have to listen to your music or videos at high volume. Fits very well and it's very comfortable.

  3. I have spent more time than most would care to believe testing out the various sleeves available to my Shure SE310's, and have come to the following conclusions...

To get the most out of your earbuds, one need consider two factors of EQUAL IMPORTANCE:

    1) How far the actual sound driver on the earbud (not just the sleeve) is into your ear canal

    2) How tight the seal is within your ear canal

As most tend to discuss the latter of these two factors, I would first like to emphasize the following pertaining to the former...

If the seal is tight, but your buds are sticking out of your ears because the sleeves are so big(thus lacking in factor #1), then the sound which that tight seal keeps within your ear canal will be somewhat negated by the extra distance between the sound driver and your eardrum.

On the other hand, if you choose some smaller sleeves, and manage to get the earbuds in so far that they almost disappear entirely, you will somewhat inevitably be lacking in factor #2, i.e., an adequate seal, because if they are going that far into your ear canal they are probably not large enough to tightly create a seal.

With that said, the trick as I see it is this...

You need to find sleeves which provide a BALANCE BETWEEN THESE TWO FACTORS. Namely, a tight seal, but not so tight as to force the earbuds to push themselves out after the foam has expanded.

Also, one must understand that the best sound will probably not come from the most comfortable sleeves that you choose.

In my experience, I have gotten the most pleasing results with the absolute LEAST comfortable of the sleeves I have tried (large foam)- while the medium foam felt better, the seal I get with the more uncomfortable, and larger foam sleeves, was unquestionably the best.

    ONE MORE THING.

These foam buds must be replaced FREQUENTLY in order to maintain an adequate degree of sound quality.

One will notice that over time, they tend to soften up, in a way which makes them almost feel as if the density of the foam has deteriorated.

What seems to happen, is that they break down some what from the constant scrunching and expanding, and over time they will just be like two little flaccid sponges, incapable of functioning correctly.

I spend about four hours a day listening to my earbuds, and I would say that I change them out about every three weeks more or less.

If you can't deal with this then go with the rubber sleeves. They work quite well and are of much less trouble to maintain.

    Just my two cents.

Hope that helps and good luck!

  4. I'd been an adherent to the Shure yellow foams with my Shure E3Cs headphones, and just have been trying the new black foams for the last two days.

The appearance is less gaudy, both from less obtrusive color black and somewhat smaller size.

The sound seems to me identical, perhaps a touch less sound isolation from less secure contact at the tapered edges of the black foams. The black foam puffed up more quickly than the yellow, allowing less time to position them all the way in, slightly less convenient.

As I indicated just above, the grip of the black foams seems less secure, although still adequate, with the new tapered geometry - the cylindrical shape for the yellow ones has a bigger radius on the edge further in the ear, with the associated downside of the yellow ones being a little rougher on my ears with their firm grip. And the blacks seem softer in general.

[added 3 weeks later] I've opted for vanity and subdued appearance over secure fit, and use the new black ones, even though I've given them a lower rating. Indeed the grip and sound isolation of the softer black foams is less, but dignity counts for something.

  5. I use these on my Westone UM2's. I like them better than stock cosmetically (The gray earbuds yellow over time). These seem to fit a little better due to their composition, good inexpensive alternative.

  1. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, i REPEAT, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I used this product for one day, that's right, one day, ONE DAY. Now I can NOT get power to the transmitter. Personally, I will not again buy a Cables Unlimited product, I strongly suggest you do the same. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, i REPEAT, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT, IT IS GARBAGE!! You have been warned.

  2. It's pretty rare when the best priced choice turns out to be the best product. I really studied this purchase before ordering because these headphones were so cheap compared to the others. This is the third set of wireless headphones we've purchased. They are by far the best value.

  3. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT TO THOSE WHO LIKE LISTENING TO THERE FAVORITE MUSIC. WITHOUT HAVING ALL THAT TROUBLE USING STEREO HEADPHONES WITH THE WIRES ATTACH TO IT. PLAYS GOOD FOR THE PRICE YOU CANT BEAT IT. FOR THE PRICE ITS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY TO CARRY.

  1. When I first got the headphones (E3c) I tried all of the sleeves, trying to find a good balance between comfort, ease of use, and sound quality. It is important with all of them to insert them correctly to get a good seal, and therefore good sound.

I really liked the Ultra-soft sleeves because they were simple to put in, had a good seal, and were confortable to wear. Unfortunately they are so soft they slip off of the stem if they are in too deep. This happened to me twice (I know, fool me once...)! My wife had to get in there with tweezers to get them out. I have read that I'm not the only one. Others have had to go to the hospital to get them out. Beware!

  2. ... but once you know how to take them out, it will never happen. When you remove them, twist them a bit and push to the side of your ear maintaining pressure so they don't come off.

If they come off in your ear, grab the tweezers. It's not that big of a deal.

These are the most comfortable sleeves for the Shure earphones for me - I've tried them all
