  1. This is quite a bulky item for the Koss plugs, but is just fine for other stuff, like Shure's push-to-play device.

  2. Purchased this for a pair of Koss Spark Plugs and my iPod Shuffle. Both fit great together in the one case. A bit bulky for the phones alone, but great if you want to pack a couple of small items together.

  1. They look just like they are pictured, they are comfy on the ears and my son loves them.

  2. Very quick, good transaction. They are exactly as advertised and are now my favourite headphones. :) I've never owned headphones so comfortable before. Didn't need to take them off during the 8-hour drive from home to college.

  3. I have had these a week now and am EXTREMELY pleased ! And no, I'm not a "younger person", lol. Mid 40's and lUv my muZic. I have bought a handful of different earbuds and small headphones for my mp3 players and haven't really liked any of them. Earbuds kill your ears after an hour or so and never really fit both my ears, as they are different IDs. Plus I like to be able to hear what is happening around me.
Use these outside and inside, while in my workshop, sitting at the lake, on the deck, rolling around in the yard and while surfing. I'd use them while riding my handcycle but I don't want to sweat all over them.

They are VERY comfortable, very lightweight, excellent sound quality, ya don't have to set the volume high to hear all the instruments/frequencies either. I listen to all types of music and they ALL sound great on these. Wiring is flexible AND high quality. They are WELL BUILT, fold up and stow in minimal space. Oh yeah, they look cool as well, ya don't have to be a teenager to appreciate THAT... most of us, anyway.
    John

  4. I think everyone else has the headphone specs covered, so I just wanted to comment on the MacRed color, which currently sells for a spectacular $20.93 here. It's a muted warm plum color with a metallic sheen, which is far better than the fire engine red I thought I was going to get. I would get this color even if it weren't the cheapest one available.

To add a bit to the specs, the sound quality is rich, clear, and very satisfying. The headphones also fit somewhat loosely and awkwardly on my head when I wear my glasses, so I wouldn't strongly recommend this if you usually wear thick framed glasses. The whole thing is made of light plastic, but I expected that from small headphones like these. Overall, I'm really pleased with these headphones.

  5. I just received my pink Lowrider headphones in the mail today and was pretty excited. That excitement went right down the drain as soon as I put them on. I was expecting exceptional bass and sound and to be honest, that isn't what I got. These headphones were replacing some I bought from the Dollar Store (yes, you heard that right) and the ones from the Dollar Store had MORE bass than these. I feel like I have wasted my money. Although the sound is clear, it just isn't perfect and if these didn't cost 30 dollars (and I hadn't ordered them online) I would gladly switch back to my Dollar Store headphones. Even messing with the equilibrium settings on my iPod Classic didn't do much. If you're looking for exceptional bass quality, believe me, these AREN'T for you. I'd buy them for cheap but not for the price they're asking. It's just not worth it. AND, they keep falling off of my head and they're at the smallest width possible.

    At least they're cute.

  1. These are direct replacements for the original ear sleeves that came with my E4c's. The sleeves come off and are easily lost. I "notched" the tube that the sleeve slides over to keep the sleeves in place. This cured the problem (Shure, are you listening?). Overall, these is a good value and they fit well.

5 comments about Shure E5c Sound Isolating Earphones.
  1. Well, I gulped and paid the price for these after my Shure E2s died. I was very happy with the E2s and they are a great value. The first thing you will notice with th E5s is extended bass and treble response. They are physically larger that the E2s and E3s in my ear, so if you have smaller ears look at the E3s or E2s. I work with the E5s and watch them take a great deal of musician abuse for years without breaking. After owning them for a few months, I think I can justify the price by avoiding purchase of other high end audio gear. These earphones combined with lossless encoding on an iPod is probably all I will ever need.

  2. The best earphones I own and I own plenty. These must fit into the ear canal to get a snug fit and whoa the bass comes alive. I Don't like the stiff cord that is supposed to wrap around the outside of your ear. They are overpriced and at this time you should consider the shure e500 pth( smaller and more flexible)

  3. E5C vs. E3C

For a year and a half, I listened to the E5s. The sound quality - especially the bass, is noticeably better than the e3s. Does the quality difference justify the extra money? I think so. But I also think that this depends on your financial situation. If you insist on squeezing every last ounce of high-fidelity out of your portable rig, than these headphones are for you. As I wrote in my e3 review, (having owned a pair at one point), you are doing yourself a great disservice by not listening to your music with as little or (preferably) no compression. My current codec (format) of choice for "ripping" CDs is Sony's ATRAC Advanced Lossless which plays the music back with all the bits of the original CD. You can really hear the difference in bitrates when listening through the E5 headphones.

The E5s are comfortable and do a very good job of isolating outside noise. Although they are larger than other models, it only took me a couple days to get used to wearing them. I used them on the subway everyday. The cord is a bit more rigid and less flexible than the other models from Shure.

Worthy of note: I am currently on my third pair of e5s; well sort of, I am now using the newer SCL5. The first E5 developed a wire fray, and the second, some uneven sound levels after about 1 year of use. Shure exchanges faulty products with a great 2-year warranty. Recommended.

  4. I've been using these earphones for over a year now, and though they have good points they also have a lot of annoyances. I'm surprised when I see such glowing reviews for these, which is why I want to share some of my thoughts.

    First the good :
I fly a lot, and I do believe these are the best earphones I've ever had for the plane. In the past I owned a good pair of Sony noise canceling, then I went on to Bose noise canceling, then last year I purchased these Shures. The noise canceling phones go over the ear, which means they are larger and are taking up a lot of your valuable carry-on space. The Shure's can be coiled up into their little container and take up very little space. I can easily put them in my pants pocket. The noise canceling phones help to reduce the drone of the plane, but filter out little else. You'll still hear conversations and announcements. The Shures are plugged right into your ear canals, and you hear almost nothing outside. They are just like earplugs, with music inside.
I'll also note that they are very well built. For as many times as I've snagged the cord on something, they have held up beautifully.

    Now the bad:
Aside from using them on the plane or in public transportation like the subway, I find these to be my least favorite earphones for listening to music. Because they are plugging up your ear canals, you hear things like your own breathing, your feet stepping on the ground, the cord brushing against things. Try walking around with earplugs and you'll understand what I'm describing. At the gym, these earphones are terrible. Running on the treadmill with them you'll hear every thud of your foot, your heavy breathing, and the bouncing of the cord. Walk around outside with them and it's the same to a lesser degree. Try to use them lying back in a chair or in bed and you find yourself trying to control your breathing so it doesn't interfere with the music.

As for sound quality, they are the best in-ear phones I've had. However, they cannot hold a candle to on-ear or over-ear phones I own. I have on-ear phones that cost less than 1/8 the cost of these, and are far superior in sound quality.

My advice is to go with the in-ear phones only if you are purchasing them for very noisy environments such as airplanes where you do not want to hear anything going on around you. If you expect to use them in quiet surroundings, I think you'll be very disappointed. Personally I would not pay so much money in the future for in-ear phones, since I cannot use them anywhere other than a very noisy environment.

  5. I bought the E5C earphones during summer 2005. Left ear stopped playing abruptly in early October 2007, no external, visual damage. I'm a neat freak, so take good care of my toys. Sent the broken earphones to Shure with an explanation I understood they were a few months out of the 2 year warranty, but would appreciate a warranty replacment because I had in no way abused the earphones and had been very happy with them. Got a brand new replacement pair about 1.5 weeks later, no questions asked. Shure is a providing an excellent quality/fidelity product and commensurate service to back it up. Happy in Pittsburgh, S. Monroe

  1. First of all, these earphones are not THAT easy to put on. It takes quite a bit of adjusting, especially if you wear any earrings. After you fit them in your ears securely, they are great for about 40 min. After 40 minutes, my ears just start to hurt and it definitely wasn't because the volume was too high. Maybe my ears have weird shape. But I get the feeling that "one-size-fits-all" doesn't quite apply in this case.

  2. I like to listen to music on the move, so it's always an irritation when my headphones fall off constantly (and boy do those earbud ones ever!). Well, these are my favorite headphones so far. They STAY PUT, whether I'm cruising through rush hour crowds or jogging. More importantly, they don't suffocate your ears like the traditional over the head headphones. What really draws me to these phones, however, are the sound quality. The sound is actually a lot better than some of the more expensive low-end phones you can find (I compared them, believe you me). The bass on this, for one, is much better than a pair of Aiwa earbud ones I bought which cost twice as much.

All in all, these are good headphones for active people who also want their music sounding like music.

  3. When I first got these headphones I had the same complaints that another reviewer had. However, I did get used to them and learned how to adjust them so that they are fairly comforable.

After some time you can get them on in just a few seconds even though at first it seems to take forever. The payoff is not really great sound but it is like these earphones are glued to your ear. This is priority number one for me during vigorous exercise. If that is not your top priority then I'd look elsewhere.

  4. These headphones are lightweight, inexpensive and perfect for people who workout on a regular basis. The ear pieces are clearly labeled for the right and left ear...and the ear pieces move to adjust to your chosen listening position. The headphones are not clunky and stiff like usual plastic models. Additionally, the rubber coating is great for battling sweaty sessions! For earphones that wont make a dent in your wallet- these are truly perfect!

  5. Like other reviewers have said, these headphones hurt and are difficult to put on. They fall off easily, too. The metal of the speakers are exposed and really rub against the sensitive skin of the inside of your ear, resulting in discomfort. Whoever tested these over at the Philips plant must've had ears of steel, I swear.
The sound quality is lacking as well. The bass reception isn't exactly wonderful.
If you're considering these, turn away immediately. There are many other headphones in this price range that are much more comfortable and better-sounding.
