  1. volume too low and pretty uncomfortable the bud style headphones from sony are alot better that these they do not block out any noise just a waste of money

  2. Don't waste your money - there are much better earbuds out there in the same price range. The range on these is terrible, with no bass and *very* shrill treble.

  3. Just purchased these Sony's for use with my Creative Zen Nano Plus (they're my 1st earbuds). I have a pair of Sony MDR CD380's that I like very much, however those aren't practical for reasons of portability. After using the Zen's built in EQ I have the E55's sounding pretty good. I could not run these "flat" as the bass was overwhelming and the highs too shrill. After some EQ'ing the sound is almost there, however for the price they should sound more balanced. Problem with earbuds is most retailers will not (understandably) let you try them out before purchase.

  4. The first thing I'll mention is if you don't have an EQ on your MP3 player then you should probably pass on these. Running these flat results in a bass heavy sound with little midrange and treble response.

I bought these as a backup set of IEMs while my Shure SE210s were being repaired under warranty. The first thing I did was adjust the EQ on my Creative Zen Vision:M to flat settings and could tell right away these were going to need some tweaking to get a decent sound. Here are the settings I'm using for these IEMs:

    80Hz -1
    250Hz -5
    1kHz +1
    4kHz +2
    13kHz +5

These settings took awhile to come to as it was hard keeping the bass from sounding too thin while keeping the midrange and highs balanced. Once I hit the sweet spot these earphones came to life! The bass sounds more balanced, the midrange doesn't sound squashed and muddy, and the highs sound more defined and detailed. Someone else mentioned the highs sound harsh but I don't find that to be the case with proper EQ.

I used these for about 3-4 days and noticed that they started sounding better, so give them some time for break-in. Stereo separation is very wide and there is this kind of downward expansion sound to them, though this may be my use of Smart Volume on the Zen. I like gain riding for a more even sound, and these phones seem to take advantage of it.

One thing about these over the Shure's is that they deliver a more colored sound. The Shure's seem more full-bodied and much more accurate, but the Sony's have deeper bass extension (with proper EQ settings) and a slightly wider soundstage with a bit more airiness. Overall they are very good if you can EQ them properly and probably worth the money.

As for build quality they are not too bad. They do fit nicely and you won't notice the feeling of them in your ears using the right size ear piece. Sound isolation is good with the proper fit (the ones pre-installed fit my ears perfectly). The cord is long enough if you wear your MP3 player on your belt. The carrying pouch is a nice bonus to keep them from getting trashed.

  5. As the price indicates, these ear buds are certainly not meant for audiophiles. The bass is exaggerated, and the highs sound somewhat tacky and cheap. They're not completely bad, however. They're quite comfortable for skiing and recreational use, and the sound characteristics of these headphones make them good for rap music and some kinds of rock. For all you audio snobs who criticize these headphones, just look at the price tag and shut up. Good sounding headphones cost at least double.

  1. These Bluetooth Headphones work great. The sound quality is fantastic and they work with all of my bluetooth compatible devices. The greatest feature is that they are collapsible. I can store them anywhere. I had logitechs and they broke in the first month. These are very sturdy and reliable. The battery lasts for over 12 hours. Its pretty fantastic. I highly recommend these because of their portability.

  1. I tend to run through earphones. I used them to edit my novels, listening to them on ReadPlease. It's a great help, keeps me focused to where I hear the typos my eyes don't notice. Being rough on them, I bought two pair, a set from Sony, which were very nice for the prices. However, I found this pair from Panasonic superior. The clarity is amazing, plus the range -- when you listen to music you are in tune heaven!

There is a better buffer for your ears. The construction keeps them on your ears, instead of just there. They are made so you just don't notice them on. Light as a feather.

Price, comfort and performance, they are outstanding.

    Highly recommended.

  2. I had a good experience with Panasonic headphones previously. So, I bought this RP-HT46 Headphone. I was very disappointed to say the least. The sound is very weak compared to other heaphones and there's no bass at all. Even though they are light, it's still uncomfortable to wear them due to its tight head band. I had to return it (even though they are cheap) just to make a point. Granted they were made in China, still I cannot believe Panasonic is putting its trade mark on this junk headphones.

  3. I really like this product because it allows me to adjust the volume on my ipod easily while I am at the gym.

  1. My grandmother gave these to me, beacause she sold her computer. They really hurt your ears.

  2. When I received this product the only way to get both sides to work was to hit them repeatedly. Loose connection I believe. Not worth it to try and return them. Threw them in the trash can and bought a better pair at a local retailer.

  3. Bought this because I needed a pair of headphones to wrap behind the head (remember to wear a helme when you're cycling, kids!), that also had a volume control, and that were cheap enough to not miss if they got broken.

This headphones have an interesting feature -- the ears sort of fold up to form this horizontally smaller setup for travel -- it's not particularly useful in practice, but it is a nice thought.

They are a little tight around my head yet do not hurt after extended (2 hour) use, but YMMV.

As for the sound -- you will need to tweak the EQ if you have one on your player. They are naturally fairly cheap, and so you don't expect good sound, but they really seem to blast the mid-high range, sometimes in an almost painful fashion. Lowering the mid-highs, and upping the bass and treble solves it for me. This is why I'm rating it a 3, for the unbalanced sound. I've had other similar products (my last set) which, while the sound isn't great, reproduce it fairly evenly across the board.

Other than that, if you need a pair of cheap headphones to work out with, with a volume control, that wrap around your head, these are the ones to get.

  4. I bought these to replace my lost traveling headphones (sony earbuds). They were bought specifically because they were folding and not earbuds. I've never been a fan the earbud-style and bought my last pair because I'd had no choice.

So far, these are much more comfortable and those of you with heads the size of basketballs will be happy to find the "behind the head" feels comfortable and secure even on your massive melon.

The sound seems a little washed out--I'm surprised--Koss usually has a very good sound. Still it's tolerable for the extra comfort and portability.

Durability wise, these seem sturdy and well made (despite the other reviews) but only time will tell for sure--being for travel, they will take a lot of abuse.

Koss does have a lifetime warranty--so I'm sure I'll be abusing it.

  5. These were everything I looked for: cheap decent-sounding behind ear headphones that still let me hear what was going on around me at work.

Only problem similar to other reports is sometimes need to adjust the volume slider to right position or one side would cut out.

After having these for 2 1/2 years the cord wore out (with some help from me - sometimes I'd stand up and get the cord caught on a desk corner). I'll purchase a higher quality set next time

  1. The Otterbox waterproof case I ordered with these works great. I have a difficult time keeping these in my ears while I am swimming. After the sound stopped coming out a one side (only after 10 laps), I just concentrating on keeping the other side in my ear until a couple more laps when that side also stopped working. I let them dry while I did a few more laps. I was able to get them to work again, but it was just too much of a hassle. The sound quality was good when I was able to keep them in my ears and when they were working.

  2. The headphones work fine, they aren't the best ... but I wasn't really expecting the best, in terms of sound quality. Still, its far better than nothing. Fun to have music while swimming laps, really does alleviate the boredom. Nice to listen to eBooks and even news Podcasts while swimming. They don't fall out if you've got them securely jammed into your ears. Mine (well, one side at least) often stays put for an hour or so of lap swimming.

    Those were the pros.

The cons, well only one really, but bad enough for me to give only two stars. The buds themselves aren't really the problem. Its the little plastic covers that are supposed to fit inside your ears. Ouch!

These hurt. If you are any kind of sensitive, you may have an earache for a little while after wearing them. If you have to take them in and out more than once or twice while using them, you ear canals will feel as if you've cleaned them with sandpaper.

My ear canals were so sore afterwards that even soft foam earplugs, which I sometimes wear at night, made my ears throb and hurt and I had to remove them. I could only wear these headphones if I waited some days in between for my ear canals to heal so they could take the abuse for another lap swim session.

I am returning them and looking for something a little kinder.

  3. I bought these earphones to use with my waterproof ipod case while snorkeling. The earphones work well except they are a bit big for my ear canals (which are smaller than most people's). They sent two sets, which is great because I trimmed down the first set (as per their recommendations for smaller ear canals) but this left them kind of rough and scratchy. They still work and everything else about them is great. They stay put mostly (i only had to adjust them a few times with 1 1/2 hrs of swimming) and I don't wear a swim cap. Interestingly enough, the sound is much better when the earbuds are under water. I recommend these, but you may have to do some fidgeting with the earpieces to get a comfortable fit.

  4. I've now had four pairs of these phones (primarily because nothing else is available that works). They have great sound when they don't slip out of your ear canal (how wonderful if they had some way to keep them from ripping out of your ear canal during a flip-turn or push off). My chief complaint is that they all fail w/in about 3 weeks of use (I swim about 3000m a day, five days a week). Dissecting them shows that the internal cables are hair-thin and have all broken from metal fatigue. I've even tried reinforcing the cable at points where it bends (near the jack) with electrical tape, but that just moves the fatigue point to the end of the reinforced point. Come on folks, use decent cabling.

  5. I have tried waterproof headphones from Aquapac (two different kinds) and H2O Audio. They either do not seal/fit properly in the ear or they don't stay in the ear. These have a ribbed insert that goes in the ear canal and seals, which is what creates good sound quality. If it doesn't seal properly, you don't get good sound. And these stay put in the ear. I have swum laps for an hour without any problems. All others either could not achieve a proper seal in the first place due to design flaws or eventually lost the seal due to movement during swimming. Either way, they simply didn't work for swimming laps. If you've got sensitive ear canals, you probably aren't going to be happy with any waterproof headphones. If you're just puttering around snorkeling or something, some others will work. But if you want something that works for swimming laps (AND costs much less than most of its competitors), try these.

  1. Even though I'm an adult, I bought these because sometimes I want to listen to very quiet music and many headsets have their lowest volume higher than the volume I want. These earbuds work well for that purpose and they do seem to be loud enough for the higher volume I sometimes like. However, they are designed for kids so everything is durable. the earbuds are thicker plastic than I'm used to and hurt my ears. the cord is thicker than usual so makes a sound when it moves around. I like that the cord is 2 equal length sides -- hate the new ones with a long and a short side. Otherwise, i suspect they're not for me and I'll be returning them.
