  1. I got a pair a year back when they just costed 10$, the sound qualty is supierior to anything else on the market for under 40$. the accoustics good , you would hear instuments and tones that you wouldn't hear from from most home systems.

On the down side, they lasted about a month. One of the wires developed a short, and the in-line volum developed a dead spot, the silecone buds would get dirty a dried up from dust and use, rendering performance and the sound reduction. The silecone buds also, have a tendency to come off, but that's and easy fix with super glue.
Dont plan on moving or doing anything active with these buds, cause you'll hear the cords vibation eveytime you move. it creates a stehoscope effect that over powers the music.

  2. I didn't read through many of the previous reviews before buying these earbuds. I was looking for a mid-priced set of earbuds that have an inline volume control. These seemed to fit the bill.

I got them and put them in. First off, they're very comfortable. They seal nicely and provide some very good isolation.

The bad part is that they have almost no midrange. I can hear tons and tons of lower freqencies and some pretty good (not great) highs. But midrange was almost entirely missing. It makes my music sound terribly muddy and vocals are almost non-existent.

    I guess I'll keep looking....

  3. The audio quality is fine.

These things need to be pushed far--too far--into your ears to be in place. Yet, if you are moving about, they will still fall out easily.
I lost several hours of sleep last night because the skin of my ear canal hurt after wearing these for 45 minutes earlier in the day.

  4. These earphones are what I've been wanting for a long time. Something affordable but not cheap. These earphones are the best you can get without spending an arm and a leg. The sound quality is top notch, like you're listening to a 2 grand sound system in a car. The sound is crisp and the bass thumps nicely. Also, I can use them to jog if I run the bud over the back of my ear and bring it down upside down into my ear. This has the wire rest on the back of my ear so when I jog the earphones don't jar out. The case that comes with it is nice and protects all of the product.

Overall: Amazing both in sound and stability.
    I recommend these to everyone!

    -Glenn

  5. I got a white pair of these for my birthday in April, and they were fabulous. The sound is crisp, and you have great volume control. The bass is also great for people that really like heavy-bass music.
And then, in August, all the sudden, the right ear broke, and just stopped working for no apparent reason. I can live with that, so I just let it go. But then 3 days later, the left ear broke just like the right one! No matter how many ways I positioned it, or cleaned it, they just wouldn't work.
They lasted 5 months....not so good....

5 comments about Shure Universal Fit 20 Pack Replacement Foams for E1c, E3c and E5c Earphones.
  1. I tried all the rubber vinyl plugs that came with the E3C's, but they all had the shortcoming of not effectively sealing the ear canal making bass very poor, and they were uncomfortable. The yellow foam plugs are easy to use and work just like the ear foams many people use in industrial applications. They effectively seal the ear canal and are very comfortable. Although they seem a bit expensive I've found that once they get dirty you can use water and a bit of dish detergent to clean them. Just soak, squeeze, rinse and let them air dry and they are as good as new. You can do this three or four times, then just toss them away.

    Highly recommended.

  2. Thanks. These are the best earphone foams for Shure earphones. Perfect fit.

  3. I wish they sold them by the case. They stay in pretty well in the gym, and I love the ability to change them when I want, I hate skeevy.

  4. I've ordered 3 of these replacement packs for a couple of pair of Shure earphones over the last couple of years.

The sound isolation from the foam is excellent, they are fairly easy to use, and fall out less easily than any other option I've tried. Probably only custom-fit molding works much better.

The passive sound isolation is better than active noise cancellation by manufacturers such as Bose, as numerous studies have shown. I'm always amused by the Bose-users on airplanes who don't realize they would get better sound from tiny earphones like Shure or Etymotic than their 5lb monsters with batteries.

Only two minor caveats, one of which should be temporary - (1) There are no Shure earphones with the button for an iPhone yet, only an adaptor, this must be fixed soon. (2) It takes a bit of force and finesse to put the new foams on the earpieces, I haven't had trouble but some might.

[added 1/13/08 - just tried the new black foams, see my review, not quite as secure, same sonics, better looks, more expensive]

  5. This foams are very good, they fit perfectly in your ears and the sound does not change a bit!

5 comments about ILUV i903 Noise-Canceling Bluetooth Stereo Headphones.
  1. I really like the headphones. They're comfortable and the sound is very good. My problem is with the transmitter, which has a battery time that is less than the amount of time it takes to charge it. It takes a couple of hours plus to charge the transmitter for only 90 or a 100 minutes of transmitting and the transmitter will not work while it is charging. If you're buying these for work don't expext a full day of listening unless you do what I did, which is buy a separate transmitter (from another company) that plugs in.

  2. If these headphones reduce or cancel noise, then I have not noticed that. I have had better noise reduction with $5 Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo Earphones and $20 JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds. iLUV do not cover the ear completely and I am not sure if there is any electronic noise cancellation.

Supposedly these are the only Bluetooth Noise Reducing headphones in the market as of June 2008. The only plus about this item is that it uses mini USB charger. They do not cover the ears, significant noise gets through, there is a constant humming in the background (white noise), controls are tiny and not well placed, one multifunction button is very difficult to use, the audio transmitter does not come paired with the headset and customer service is poor - no human answered the call. Press the same multifunction button 3 seconds to redial, 4 seconds to turn on and off, and 5 seconds to pair! You have to pair their audio transmitter with these headphones (unlike Plantronics which come paired).

Other problem I encountered is that audio transmitter fits very loosely in 5G iPOD Classic and the connection keeps breaking off. But I think the problem there is with iPOD because even expensive Monster audio cable also is loose in that iPOD.

I bought these to replace Plantronics Pulsar 590, which I had been using to listen to podcasts while mowing the lawn. They broke after 2 years. Although I purchased iLUV for their noise reducing quality, I did not hear less background noise than Plantronics. In fact, Plantronics 590 cover the ear completely and I heard less noise. Lawn and yard equipment can be noisy and to avoid tangling the wires while working in the yard I need wireless headphones. But I am not sure if there are any out there.

Headphones and headsets are consumables: they don't last very long. I have had Apple iPOD headsets last as little as 3 months and cheap Koss headsets, which are still going strong after years. Buying headsets is like buying wine: there is little correlation between pleasure and price.

If you are not looking for wireless/Bluetooth, the best values for money are Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo Earphones for about $5 and JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds for $20. The best noise reduction is with wired headphones like Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 or Panasonic and they are around $100. Plantronics 590 are better Bluetooth headphones although their fabrication is not sturdy. Since you have to use headphones in all kind of circumstances, they ought to be rugged.

Therefore, if you are looking for Bluetooth Noise Reducing headphones, I am not really sure whether there are any out there as of June 2008. There are other better Bluetooth or Noise-canceling headphones. I returned iLUV 903.

  3. This product was sent to my sister for a gift. what was sent wasn't what was advertised. It was broken and in poor packaging. I will not buy from that merchandiser ever again.
The worst service I have ever had on amazon.

  4. first of all, lets clear the air...if you can read you can do anything. that said, and in response to those who say the noise canceling is "non-existent" or "poor" in this product, it is just fine. it does what it's suppose to do. i had noise canceling headphones from logitech and these are no different. it is OKAY! i had to replace my logitech headphones because the swivel feature of the turning ear pieces on both left and right ear broke, and get this, i had the headphones 6 months and they broke ONE DAY APART! my personal opinion...swiveling ear pieces are not what they are cracked up to be. rather, they are just one more thing to go wrong with headphones that forces the user to have to break down and buy a new pair long before necessary had not that feature EVER existed. on this score, iLuv and in fact, just about EVERY manufacturer loses, because they've all gone in this direction and therefore, the consumer who has no other choice but to buy them, also loses.

the bluetooth feature is what drew me to iLuv, since ONLY iLuv has a bluetooth headphone that ALSO includes the invaluable noise canceling feature i need for my work. with my old headphones, i found myself tethered to a connection between the headphone itself and the voice recorder that i also use. using a bluetooth headphone broke my bondage to the wire that connected me to the two of them and also made my life a whole lot easier when my cell rang on vibrate in my pocket.

before when the cell rang, i'd have to remove the headset from my ears by wrapping them around the back of my neck, then dig the cell out of my pocket while driving, and answer it. i told all my friends, DON'T call me when i'm working or i'm going to get someone killed on the road trying to answer your call. but with the iLuv 903, i'm in heaven. because of bluetooth, now all i have to do is push the button on my right ear to answer my cell phone calls. no more do i have to dig it out of my pocket at risk of life, limb and property!

with regard to the size of the ear cushions and feeling like a freak for wearing them, hey, the earphones were NOT intended to cover the ear, but rather to set ON the ear. there are many different designs of earphones. this is merely one design and it is a common design that every manufacturer of headphones mimics.

besides the swivel feature that i hate that unfortunately now seems to be appearing on all makes and models of headphones across the entire spectrum of the industry, there are only two things i can find to criticize. one, the dongle wire is permanently tethered to the dongle, so if the wire goes bad, you'll have to replace the entire dongle. but on that count, DON'T WORRY, there are lots of other replacement dongles you can use that are much more sturdily built (at least for my needs) than the one supplied by iLuv, but i had no other choice in headphones and you may not either. i HAD to have a bluetooth noise canceling headset and for the extra money of the version 903 vs. the 913, i consider the extra money spent well worth it and you will too as long as you consider the purchase a "starter product" with the intention of replacing that dongle down the road. that was and is my plan. that wire WILL go bad during my daily usage of this product and my purchase was made with the thought in mind that the supplied dongle would probably not last more than a month or two for my usage needs. are you listening iLuv? you need to create a dongle where if the wire goes back, you need only to replace the wire, not the entire dongle!

the 2nd criticism is i can't get the volume control to work on the headphones, but this is minor as on all audio devices that i know of, the audio device itself should also have a volume control of its own. so i go back to that unit and adjust the volume from there instead.

oh, and as an aside...this is not an issue with iLuv, but i just learned that bluetooth signals don't work through walls without the audio breaking up. so if that is important to you, you might want to wait until the technology improves.

as for the rest of you manufacturers of headphones out there, it's time you got with the program. there is no doubt in my mind that iLuv is making a killing on this product, since they are the only ones who seem to have it.

  5. I have been using these headphones for two weeks and am really impressed. They are light weight but not flimsy. This could cause problems with durability later but with a little care it should be fine. The sound is very good. They are very comfortable on your head: good design tradeoff between bulky studio headphones and ear-buds that feel like QTips stuck in your ear. They work well in noise cancelling mode when music is playing and I cant wait to try them on a long flight to see how they work with ambient plane noise.
The wireless blue-tooth operation to a cell phone or laptop works well (see later) and gives 6 hours+ with canceling off and slightly less with canceling on. The mini-usb from a standard headphone jack works well too. There are NO strange hisses or blips or crackles in noise cancelling mode, just the normal low level hiss that any noise canceling headphone gives when it is on. If its annoying, just turn it off or dont buy noise canceling headphones in the first place. The integrated mic works well. I have used the bluetooth mic/phones wireless with skype and the sound quality (mic speaking and headphones listening) is fine for phone calls.
The only issue for me was establishing the bluetooth connection to PC or cell phone BUT I have this same issue with all my bluetooth devices: Bluetooth is a great technology BUT it is a pain to first setup on any device.
All in all, I recommend these ILUV i903's. I looked long and hard and there arent many wireless, stereo headphone with mic units out there. This one is definitely worth considering if you are looking for one!

I just received a new set of SCL4's and they're incredible. Brilliant high, deep bass and excellent sound isolation. Highly recommended! Outstanding, fast service. Shure fan forever.

  1. They are comfortable on my ears and it works well. Price is cheap and I'm pretty satisfy! Worth it! Just get a try~

  2. These earbud pads are quite a relief from the original circular earbuds I got with my mp3 player. Not just for iPods, though they are called iBuds. They transfer the sound so well that I can only turn my volume to "1"! And they stay in.

  3. I do agree with the other reviewer that these channel the sound nicely, but unfortunately they don't stay in your ears, so how good the sound is channeled is a moot point. What I perceive the problem to be is they are made of an extremely pliable, soft rubber which when inserted leads you to believe that you have them in. But a few seconds later the part that goes into the ear canal pops back into it's natural shape and everything comes out of your ear. You'd have to have giant ear canals for these to go into place. Perhaps if the material were a little harder and offered some resistance, it actually would go into the ear canal. But as is, it simply flattens and then pops back.

  4. Makes my headphones sound louder by channeling the sound. I had spares fro my wife's set but like the other reviewer says you need large ear canals. So to get around this for my wife I use the scissor from the swiss army knife and cut off the excess. I have good sets of sony's from my walkman and discman days that I didn't use. The foam is gone but with the rubber seals now I use them for tossing around.
Where does Eforcity come up with such random items :)

  1. I bought a pair of these headphones about 6 months ago to replace a pair of Sennheiser PX-200s that came apart on me. I dearly loved those Sennheisers, so the AKGs had a serious gap to fill. I was leary about buying them for the price I got because as we all know, you get what you pay for. However, I was quite pleased with the sound quality out of these little guys. The bass drive is just as deep as on the PX-200s. Perhaps even more so! The highs are also quite clearly reproduced in these as well. The mids? Eh, I think the PX-200s have an edge there. These don't have quite the "full" sound that the PX-200s did, though it is very good in its own right. It's not so much important on pop and rock music. But when you get into, say, classical music, you can definitely tell the difference. But for most people, I don't think you'll notice a difference so much. The cushioning on the earpads is quite comfortable and block out quite a bit of noise while sealing in what should be sealed in. DEFINITELY better in that department. But as mentioned in other reviews, the overall comfort leaves a bit to be desired. The tension on the band is pretty stiff and tight. Longer listening sessions can get downright bothersome because of this. Perhaps it just needs to be worked in a bit more. But overall, they are very good headphones and I'm pretty happy with them. I think I'll get another pair of PX-200s when I move back to MN. Until then, these are working out a lot better than I expected them to.

  2. Excellent for a portable device or any application. Clear highs,a focused mid, and a tight bass. Could use a slight boost in the 60-100HZ range but very good as is in most situations. These phones have a very "live" sound with great stereo separation and definition.Very adjustable with a nice firm fit. In almost daily use for the past three months, very durable.Very comparable to Bose on-the-ear and superior to the Bose over-the-ear phones I tried prior to purchase. I recently purchased the AKG 27i model for my wife...would give it the same recommendation.

  3. The sound on these is quite good, but the headband is a bit constricting (you will feel pressure on the top of your head) and the ear pieces become uncomfortable as well during extended listening. This set is also rather on the flimsy side, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that isn't in the habit of being exceptionally careful with their headphones. I've had two different breaks occur separating an earpiece from the unit; they were repairable with superglue, but shouldn't have happened in the first place. For $60 I think better phones can be found. On a personal note I am puzzled by all the 4-5 star reviews that admit that these phones are uncomfortable; for me comfort is on par with the sound.

  4. I bought these on sale for about $28. These phones are not worth $60. No question about that. I've been using them for 2 and a half years, and they're always my "go-to" pair for portable listening. They've got a clean, crisp sound with some accentuated bass (which I like). Damn good for the price. They don't cancel every bit of it, but they muffle outside noise, and it becomes almost not existent if you
crank the volume of your tunes a bit.

However, at different times, the actual left (fell off last year) and right (fell off this year) cans have BOTH fallen off of the silver band that goes around your head and I had to use super glue to put them back on. In addition, the copper wire connecting the plug to the cable started to show after the plastic shielding wore away, so I had to put some duct tape over that. Now, they're usable again. Have never had an issue with channels being scratchy or cutting out, which is common with cheaper phones. Only workmanship problems.

The little prongs on the top of the metal band make your head hurt. Be prepared to do some repairs and general maintenance on these if you plan to keep them for a few years. Not the most durable things in the world. Traveling out of state with them is what made the cans fall off both times. Also, buy them only if you find them on sale.

  5. These thing hurt and they look stupid because they are bulky and perch on top of your ears. They're really uncomfortable. Don't buy them!!!!

5 comments about Grado Prestige SR 225 - Headphones ( ear-cup ).
  1. These headphones are absolutely excellent, especially when driven by normal portable gear. Like everything, they benefit from better equipment, but one of their greatest virtues is their ability to shine right out of an iPod. These are a great choice for someone who just wants a plug n' play upgrade.

The cause for my strange title is the inaccuracy of the picture above. The winsome brunette seemingly enjoying some afternoon music and try toast is not actually wearing these headphones. Those gorgeous gold headphones are actually the $300 Grado SR 325i. The Sr-225's look almost indistinguishable from the rest of the plastic SR series. Black vinyl headband, black plastic cups, only identifying qualities are the stitching on the headband and the numbers on the little cups. Caveat Emptor, and all that.

  2. I have purchased quite a few pairs of headphones over the years, primarily to use with my 80GB iPod. My main pair recently has been a set of Shure e4c's, which I thought were pretty darn good. When i first put the SR-225s on, I was impressed with the rich sound, but I can't say I was bowled over. That didn't happen until I put the Shures back on. I immediately noticed how they were more narrow and tinny in comparison to the SR-225s. When I put the Grado's back on, the difference was astonishing. The soundstage opened up, and I could hear things I've never heard before, even with the e4cs. The detail with the Grados is incredible. I've heard these are even better with a headphone amp, and can't even imagine how they could be better. Obviously, I'm not an audiophile but for me, this is as high end as I can imagine. For $200 they are a far superior choice to the Bose Triports (which I bought about a month before these) which sound horrible in comparison. Yes sound does leak in and out but its not nearly as bad as some would lead you to believe. Very highly recommended. If you don't want to spend $200, check out the SR-80s or even the SR-60s.

  3. First let's dispel the notion that the style of these cans somehow makes the user look like a clod when wearing them. They ars retro in styling, but they're not oulandish. You'll look a lot more like an idiot wearing the sennheiser wireless series than wearing these.(this is for the folks that REALLY care what they look like when wearing headphones)
As to sound these are the best that can be had for $200.00, the sound reproduction is fantastic even at low volume. These are for audiophiles and people of discernment that really like listening to music.
Check out reviews on the web for these and know that the raves these cans are getting are really deserved.
If Grado decided to mass-market their headphone line, i think that they would become a household name in a relatively short period of time
As to comfort these hold up about as good as the competition, some people may find them slightly better, others slightly worse.
These are the real thing if your looking for great music and home theater sound reproduction in your headphones. I rate them a best buy.

  4. These earphones were a gift for my son who thinks they are fabulous! We are very happy with them and the service, however, it would be nice if they were available in Canada (we had to ship them within the U.S. to receive them).

  5. After years of owning Sennheiser, AKG, Ultrasone, Ultimate Ears, Etymotic and Beyerdynamic, I finally tried the Grado SR-225. Needless to say, I am not disappointed. For the money the SR-225 offer a very dynamic, energetic, detailed and just plain fun listen. They sound very engaging and lively even powered by modest source gear, like my JVC FS-5000 Ultra Compact Component System. Vocals are so "there" and the music just bristles and bubbles up all around you.

All-in-all, for the money and with "regular" source gear, these are a no downside set of cans! I'm already looking into a pair of the 325i. : )

  1. I ordered a pair of these to use at the gym with my iPod and also with a music system we jack into while spinning. They sound great. I treat them very well but I can't believe that people use these while doing extreme sports.

I have gone through two pair in 4 months. The volume control failed in the first pair. Skullcandy replaced them but it took forever. They never reply to your e-mails or website comments which is why I gave them 1 star.

The second pair also started to fail at the volume control. So I used DeoxIt on them and that cleared it up. Don't sweat on the volume control or you will have to clean it with something because it will start to have spots that don't work and sound will drop out. After about 1 month of use the jack failed. I would have to twist the cord to get them to work.

Now this is just from using them at the gym. Not skateboarding or snowboarding or any of the stuff they show the guys on their website doing.

When you do the second RMA, they hassle you with they don't cover accidental damage. They make you send the entire pair in this time. Then you wait 4 weeks and hassle them with e-mails and on their website and they never respond but they finally ship you a new pair. So 6 weeks after I sent them in I get a new pair.

I'm sure these will break just as soon as the last pair. But for what they cost I will keep sending them and hassling them. These don't even last as long as a cheap $10 pair. I could buy 6 pairs of those for what these cost.

  2. Sound quality is better than the standard issue iPod ear buds, but have to say they do not exactly rock my world like better quality ear phones. OK if you want a small upgrade.

  3. I really expected to have the button that allows you to take phone calls and skip forward songs, but this doesnt have it. Its just a pair of headphones. No microphone, no shortcut button. Just fits into the IPhone jack. I wouldn't have bought them if I knew this, but they are decent headphone so I am going to hang onto them as backup. Still, I am pretty disappointed. Should have done more research, I know.

  4. Just because these headphones come with three different sizes of rubber covers, doesn't mean they'll stay in. The design requires them to fit into the ear canal; there's no place for the cord to rest and stay put. They're useless for any activity other than sitting quietly at your keyboard because if you move around, they'll fall out. I rigged something up with an old over-the-ear piece, but its the equivalent of taping your glasses together, i won't wear these in public.

  5. La calidad de sonido es muy buena el unico detalle es el estuche para guardarlo, podian haber hecho algo mas facil de usar, es muy tedioso guardar los audifonos en dicho estuche, uno pierde mucho tiempo.

  1. Don't let the name fool you. I was surprise by the sound quality. Comfortable on the ear, works with or without the battery, however you can tell the difference when it's off. A steal at this price.

  2. Excellent headphones, with noise cancelling capabilities. Only drawback is there is no place for the wire to go, it doesn't retract, you have to literally rap it around the set. Otherwise I am happy with it.

  3. I've adquired this product 6 months ago, and i have to say it's sound quality is very good. Good bass and very sharp sound.

The active noise reduction circuit works well in low-band frequencies, but in high frequencies it is not mutch effective. It's perfect for airplanes, i can even listen to enya sounds and not hear the engine at all.

The big CON's is that it is has already broken. The plastic material is very fragile and the structural design is very weak. there is a weak point there has already broken twice, and even supergluing it just broke again.

  4. For under $30, I couldn't possibly ask for more. The noise reduction kills any low-frequency motor sounds (air conditioners, cars, pc fans, etc) and dampens everything else. The sound quality is excellent. The cable is of sufficient length.

In my home office, there is a large portable ac unit, 3 pc's and a server. An awful lot of noise. Just putting these on and flipping the switch makes everything go quiet. Not a peep. Then, you plug them into a sound source, and hear the rich bass, and excellent mids and highs. I am very happy with this product, and will likely buy more of them for the rest of the family (cause they can't use mine!!!).
