  1. This is awesome! My 19 yr old has not taken them off her ears since I gave them for her. Between her IPOD and the PC -- she's in heaven! Needless to say, I don't have to hear some of the music she chooses. Great Idea!!!!

  2. Was very excited to receive this product for my husband as he has a lot of acres to mow and could enjoy this comfortable headset without wires. Adjustable head piece and soft padded ear covers are nice. Only problem...Nano didn't fit in it. I know that the new nanos are wider this year and this must be made for the newer nano style. Our narrower style would not fit properly in the connector. So, it was either return it and pay as much for shipping as the item cost, or use the connector cable sent with it. It serves its purpose, but just not as handy now. Be careful to ensure when it says "made for iPod nano" which version of the ipod nano it fits. If that's not the problem then I guess ours was defective.

  3. These headphones are awesome! I have had them for a couple of months now, and I use them daily.

They will make you stand out more than the standard white iPod set, so careful about buying these if you're shy and intend to wear them outside. In fact, if you are a woman, you'll look a little like Princess Leia. Many friendly people have stopped me on the street to ask what it is that I have on my head (and where they can buy it).

They double as earmuffs, and will keep you warmer in the winter than most hats.

The sound quality is very good, so is the volume range. In fact, I could never listen to my audiobooks on the subway before, because it was too noisy, but with these I rarely have any problems.

This is one of the little things that can really improve the quality of your commute, especially if you commute a lot, and find it inconvenient to have to play around with the cords whenever you want to take off your jacket.

It's good stuff. Now I'm looking for a set that I could use in my shower.

--- Careful: These only work with 1st generation iPod Nano ---

  4. I couldn't tell from the description what generation Nano would fit. The picture looked like Gen3, which I have, but when it arrived it was the original, smaller size. I returned the headset.

  5. I think in theory this was a great product. Unfortunately, the prong which connects the headset to the iPod wasn't exactly in the right spot to connect. I had to modify it using the extra cord and clip the ipod in it's case to the earpiece and then hide the wire inside where the ipod was supposed to go.

I bought this for my handicapped daughter (who has a problem with all the regular speaker cords that come with the ipods and tends to break them on a regular basis) and thought this would be a perfect solution.

Too bad the speaker prong didn't line up with her iPod!

  1. I am a PC gamer how enjoys first-person-shooters and coordinating with my friends online with a microphone. I also like subwoofers and surround sound, and they add to PC gaming. I use a laptop for PC gaming, and for audio it only has a headphone and microphone jack. I also like voice activation for using the microphone, which would make headphones ideal. All of this together is why I was really turned on to usb surround sound headsets like the AKR8. Unfortunately, there are no stores nearby that have surround sound usb headsets that I can try, so I was limited to reading online reviews in deciding which headphones to buy.

I liked the reviews for the AKR8, and additional features. So I ordered these through amazon. When the headphones arrived, I found that they work well with music and movies, but imagine my horror when I heard all this static and crackle and crap when trying the headphones out for the first time with my favorite games BattleField 2 and Half Life 2. I was so dissapointed, I had not seen this problem mentioned in any of the reviews. However, it turns out that there is a work around. By reading the turtle beach support AKR8 website, they say to try changing the display properties. By going to display properties, advanced, troubleshoot, there is a slider bar labeled "hardware acceleration". After the game has started, if I go back out to the display properties and move the slider bar down a click or two, I can go back to the game and the static and crackle is gone. I don't have to change video or audio settings in the game itself, just in windows. My laptop runs Windows XP, has a 2 ghz dual core, 2 gb ram, and nvidia geforce go 7900 GS. It is annoying that everytime I want to play the game, I have to start the game, go to the display properties, and then back to the game, but once I do, I get great sounding surround sound, and lots of great subwoofer bass. I could use a little more subwoofer, but I don't know if that is possible with any pair of headphones. Mic seems to work fine. Four stars for the awesome sound, with a star knocked off for difficulty of set-up.

Be sure to know the return policy of the place you buy these from. I am going to keep these AKR8 headphones, yet it may not have been possible to return these headphones to Amazon if I had not found a solution to the glitch. If you buy from Turtle Beach directly, they promise a 30 day money back guarantee. There is no guarantee if not bought from turtle beach directly

  2. What was I doing before Turtle Beach ? I had a pair of standard headphones which I thought were great - until I slipped these headphones on... Imagine total surround sound in 5.1.... They are fantastic. Thank YOU Turtle Beach.

  3. With a little messing up with the equalizer and speakers you can get the best sound there is.

The adjustable head band is really comfortable compared to the really awesome AKG K-701 that crushes your head until it hurts really bad. And the grip of the headphones are a little hard too. So i would recommend to probably put some wide object like a vase or a few dvd cases between your headphones for a couple of hours until it loosens up a little bit.

There's also some crackling sound. But that doesn't really bother me that much...

    Final thoughts:
I could have rated this 4 stars but i don't think it's that bad to take a star off. Unless if I can make it 4.5, then i would give it a 4.5 stars.

    Other thoughts:
I wonder how would this compare to those X-FI sound cards from dolby...

  4. The AKR8 Headphone gives me the sound I crave. I am very happy with the quality of this headphone, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for top of the line sound.

  5. An excellant product, it's everything expected and more. The deep base and sound quality are unmatched by far, the nearest anything can come to this product are the Top of the line Bose!

  1. I am very happy with this product. I feel the quality of sound is outstanding.

  2. Disappointing sound

I guess it is a matter of taste, but I was truly disappointed with the quality of sound from this Bose product. I am addicted to music and consider myself very critical when it comes to the way music devices sound. I have a set of Bose QC3 headphones which I consider sound quite well so, I was expecting these earbuds to sound close to the QC 2's. Unfortunately not. The bass response is quite good, the mid frequencies are OK but, the high frequency sounds like the cymbals in jazz or rock music are very poor. You have to listen carefully to discover that they are there. I own a pair of Sennheiser's CX-300 earbuds, and the difference is enormous. The Sennheiser's are crystal clear throughout all the frequency range, and the cost half the price of the Bose's. For classical music the Bose's could be OK but, if you are also into pop, jazz, new age, etc. I suggest you consider the Sennheiser's. They are as comfortable (or more) as the Bose's, they are more sound-isolating, and they cost about 50% less.

  3. If you're thinking about spending 100 dollars, then there are some considerations that need to be taken. First of all it all depends on the type of person you are. Are these headphones going to be used rigorously like for an ipod or mp3 player? Are they going to be used for a laptop? Have you ever had a broken pair of earbuds (ipod earbudes)? The point I am making is that these headphones are not very durable. Mine broke in about a year.

    Sound Quality:
Pros: Bose quality, Very good deep bass
    Con: Almost too much bass
    Comfort:
Pros: Very comfortable, probably the most comfortable earbuds on the market.
    Con: N/A
    Design:
    Pro: comfortable earbuds
Con: The earbuds always pop off!!! Major issue!! I lost all of mine, had to buy more on ebay!!, They will not last very long, mine broke....

    Overall:
I wish I bought Shure earbuds instead. I would not recommend buying these unless you don't mind the earbuds poping off all of the time, and how easily they break. However if you're set on buying bose products then make sure you have an extended warranty plan!!!

  4. I am delighted with my Bose In-Ear Headphones. There is nothing on the market to compare with the qality of sound they produce.

  1. Love these for listening to books on tape or CD. If you bend over, they don't fall off. Great stuff

  2. Not sure why the write-ups don't say anything about it, but the connector requires no adapter to work with the iPhone. For me, the earbuds that come with the iPhone don't fit all that well, but these fit perfectly and produce excellent sound quality. And the retractable cord means you never have to worry about these things getting tangled up in your pocket or gearbag. Highly recommended!

  3. PROS:
-Retractible cord is very functional and very cool.
-Fit is also functional as well and comfortable. I wear glasses and most earphones these style that hang on your ears usually never work with glasses on, but these do for some reason. Also the spring lock feature works fairly well to keep the hook taught on your ears without the wobble you usually get from these design.
-In silent environments, you can hear that the sound quality is pretty even and good. Anything louder than your library and you don't hear much.
-Colors and options. I've seen like 9 different color combos for these on the web. In Japan one guy or company actually fit a micro SD Card MP3 player into one of the earcups so you get an all-in-one package.
-Really good build quality. Good value!

    CONS:
-The reason I stopped using these is the NYC Subway. Outside of the library or morgue these earphones let in every sound that is around you and the music you want to hear fades below everything else. Before buying these, I had Sony Fontopia MDR in-ear buds (which sealed out all the outside noise) and those caused an ear infection so I had to get over the ear style headphones and I got these. So immediately when I wore these I was VERY DISSAPPOINTED when I realized how loud everything else was during my commute. The sound quality is pretty good, but the design lets in too much noise to be able to enjoy what you're playing.
-I wished the foam bits were removable or replacable with something that is more seal-able (like rubber) which would be good for keeping outside sound out.
