  1. This product was exactly what I have been searching for. I have purchased four similar products in the past two years and was very disappointed. I do not know of a better product for the price and for the satisfaction it has afforded me. I am totally deaf in my left ear and partially deaf in my right ear and this was the perfect solution to my hearing problems with television, record, cd players and radios. I would recommend this product to anybody with or without a hearing problem.

  2. We purchased the AW722 for my slightly deaf mother, who loves them. Very comfortable. However, they won't stay charged for more than four hours of TV time, and she watches TV all day long. The very short time they stay charged seems crazy to me, and I have no idea how to contact a manufacturer to see if this is normal. We recharged and drained and recharged three times, as per instructions, but even now, the charge won't hold more than four hours, five at the top. Too much hassle to go in and balance them in the cradle, then let them charge overnight, only to use them for four or five hours and go through this again. I'll be returning these to where we purchased them.

  3. This product allows complete comfort and sound. The batteries for the headphones last forever. Volume is completely at the control of the earphone, not the T.V. or other applicable appliance. The T.V. can even be put in the mute positiona and the earphones work independently.

The only complaint is that the volume and tone control for the earphones are not easy to locate by touch, especially when the earphones are positioned on your head.

  4. The Acoustic Research AW-771 gave out when I replaced different rechargeable batteries. I used the headphones just for TV and the 771 was an ok product but experienced long start up times. I purchased the 772 and hate them. Cheap plastic, no range, louding hissing sound, strap above top of head causes discomfort and difficult to insert in rechargeable cradle. Bought the Sennheiser RS12 and most pleased. Returned the junky 772 which is a deplorable product and should be avoided at any price.

  5. The price isn't too high but you get what you pay for. I have a pretty big head, I'm almost 6'2 and these headphones would slide off with the slightest of movements. I primarily use these headphones tied into a A/V receiver to listen to music/tv/video games when the rest of my house is asleep. The base station is no more than 6 feet away and I get static whenever I move on the couch. I have tried manipulating the settings, with no joy. It is just not a high quality product, but for the price it gets the job done. If you are an audiophile and superior audio quality is what you are looking for stay away.

  1. I actually purchased this for a WoW friend who did not have a headset. I use a more expensive Sennheiser model. But my buddy says this is a fantastic headset and is very, very pleased with it. The only negative I could mention is that my headset tends to hurt my ears after a few hours of wear but the sound quality is perfect and the ease of use is definitely "there".

  2. The sound quality on this headset is very good. The only problem is comfort level of this headset. Like the other reviewer, I find the headset presses or squeezes your head rather tightly. I can only wear it for about an hour or two.

Not a bad buy for the price but I recommend you spend a bit more for the Sennheiser PC150 or PC160 series. They are lot more comfortable.

  3. Highs: B+
    Mids: B+
    Bass: B
    Skype: A

These headsets are not all that great for music or gaming. They have good overall sound reproduction, very clear across all frequencies but they lack punch. They do just fine when used for TV shows, some movies and casual music.

The main reason I got them is for Skype, since they have a great mic. There is no way a person on the other end can tell it is a VOIP call.

The other issue being, they feel like they are pressing against your ears and you will start adjusting them again and again after a while and that becomes irritating.

For: Skype, TV Shows, Casual Music

Not For: Bass, Serious music lovers & gamers

  4. This set did not work for me, so I am just using it as headphones only. The mike's leg is too short for me. When the mike is not directly in front of a mouth, the level is too low. There is no way to extend the leg.
Makes me think that standard head has much smaller distance between the ear and the mouth than mine :)

  1. I have no complaints or suggestions for these head phones. The sound quality for these is by far the best I have heard in a pair of head phones. They cancel out alot of outside noise, they have a very good treble, and they also pull out the bass that is forgotten about in alot of others. I would defiantly reccomend this over all others.

  2. They sound great, but the cans are too small so they sit on even normal sized ears causing discomfort after a few hours.

  3. I'm not an audiophile, or pro DJ, but I do produce music in my home and needed some nice headphones for making sure my mixes sounded as good as possible. These headphones seem to pick up everything, even minute sounds I may have not heard before. They are a little on the bulky side, but this isn't an issue to me. The Sony MDR's are much smaller in comparison, but these are incredibly comfortable. For the money I think they are an excellent value. Not huge on the bass with these, but they have amazing clarity.

  4. I purchased the ATH-PRO5MS because I needed good headphones that would also muffle outside noise (since I take the train every day). Although they are not noise canceling, I have to say that for $50 these are great headphones. They provide an excellent range of sound and they have allowed me to hear nuances in my music that I have never noticed before. They are also great at muffling background noise enough so that you don't have to crank up the volume to enjoy music. Overall, for $50 you can't go wrong with these

  5. first off these are way better than any standard, icluded in box headphones you'll get. they not only have unique artwork (the biggest positive)but pretty good sound. The camo is sooo gnarly. you'll look cool as f fo sho. but anyways, back to english, the sound isn't as hiigh quality as i hoped. but still they are pretty good. they keep out the sound and have quality materials except for the small cords right by the ear. I would say if you wanted mid-high grade headphones buy them but if you are looking for the best sound possible try a different audio technica. definately buy if style is a issue.

  1. These headphones sound fantastic! They produce a well balanced sound across a wide frequency. Bass, mid range and treble all sound excellent. I haven't heard any distortion. Kleer definitely produces a crisp, clear sound and the headphones allow you to hear an incredible level of detail. I would have thought these were wired if I tested these blindfolded. Operation is simple. Activate the headphones, then activate the transmitter and you have sound!

There's quite a bit of innovation in one package. The transmitter is very small. About half the size of a gum package. It comes with a rubber band to strap it to a MP3 player. If you are in a clear space, you can walk quite a distance away from the transmitter. I was able to get 40 feet away without the audio cutting out. If you walk around walls or corners, it may cut out but if you are directly across, above or below the transmitter, through a wall, it comes in perfectly clear.

Twist to fit works fairly nice and the headphones feel comfortable. You may have problems jostling them loose if you have any jarring movements like running, but seems to handle walking on a treadmill quite well.

The transmitter can last for 10 hours on a single charge, the manual says the headphones last for 3 hours but I have had them run for up to 5 hours. You can charge the headphones in the charging dock three times while on the go but charging the headphones alone can take around several hours, plus or minus, depending on how run down they are. Battery life and charge time is the only true downside aside from the early adopter price.

Pros: Sound amazing, remote charging, comfortable.
    Cons: Battery life, cost.

  2. I have been looking for wireless ear buds for a very long time and I immediately purchased the Sennheiser MX W1 as soon as I found it, justifying that the price of convenience was worth the cost. When I received it I could have sworn the ray of light shone right on the box! Could this be the answer to my prayer? Anxiously, I opened the box and knew immediately that this was high quality stuff. I immediately charged it and after long awaited hours, it finally charged. These are my findings:

SOUND - No doubt about it, the sound is chrystal clear.

NO WIRES BABY! - The hassle of tangled wires and wires catching on something is now only a nightmare!

    EQUIPMENT:
TRANSMITTER - very light in weight and surprisingly small. You can go about 15 to 30 feet without losing signal (depending on walls, corners, etc.).
EARPHONES - very light weight, sleek in design. However, they're not made for small ears. I am 5'1" woman and petite in size so everything about me is small. These earphones do stay in my ears - and I can even walk and move about - as long as I don't "bump" them or else they will just fall out. In other words, the ear buds are too big to "lock" in place in my small ears. I have to fuss with them to make sure they somewhat stay in place. If the ear buds were just a little smaller it would be perfect for me. Not recommended for small ears - especially children!

BATTERY AND TRANSMITION - At first the transmitter didn't want to come on but after poking around the DC inlet with the charger then it finally came on. Then I had some trouble having the earphones communicate with the transmitter. But eventually they found each other and haven't had problem since. Sometimes one earphone may only run for a very short time, which is odd (15-20 minutes) but after charging it again (which takes up to couple of hours), then it lasts up to 5 hours. If you use only one earphone at a time, like me, then you should have nothing to worry about as far as charging time goes.

    IMPROVEMENTS:
Earphones - Sennheiser should offer different size ear buds (the earphones comes with small, medium and large ear rubber cushions to help secure it in place in between the ear folds but if the ear buds are too big to even go inside the ear opening then the cushions are useless.

Remote capability - It only has an on and off button on the earphones. I just feel that for the price I paid for the MX W1 earphones, it should at least have a pause button so that I don't have to go back to my iPod and rewind where I left off at. Better yet, having a volume, rewind and fast forward control on the earphones would make this product more appealing, even to those who don't believe in spending more on accessories than the iPod itself!

All and all, I think this is a very innovative product and I give Sennheiser a big kudos for becoming the first to come up with this, even before Apple. Sennheiser will more than likely improve its MX W1, hopefully taking into consideration my suggestions for improvements.

  3. 1) dock the earphones into the charging station
    2) turn the transmitter off
    3) remove the earphones and immediately press and hold the receiver's button for 7 seconds...the LED will blink blue rapidly (about 2x per second)
    4) then, press and hold the transmitter's button for approximately 7 seconds...the LED will blink blue rapidly (about 2x per second)
    5) after a few seconds, the blinking lights will synchronize and then turn off
    6) the unit should be functional, as the earphones and transmitter are now "associated"

  4. These little cans are absolutely superb. I just got them, charged them up and listened to them. Within the first few seconds I heard sound wirelessly like I never thought was possible. Simply stunning reproduction. I also own what I would consider (as well as others) as "reference standards" audiophile wired headphones, Sennheisers HD650 and while not quite as flat or with the rich bass as the HD650's, the MXW1's are very, very close.

I was very nervous about spending $500 on theses, but you will definitely hear the $$$ difference between these and the $200 hi-end bluetooth alternatives. I am sure the Kleer technology used by these (vs. bluetooth) is the key difference in the sound reproduction (uncompressed vs. compressed transmission).

Other perform points such as distance and comfort were very good to excellent, although I can imagine possible less comfort for those with very small ears. The "twist-to-fit" mechanism seem large even for me, but after 2 hours of continuous use, I had no wearers fatigue.

The only knock is the charging time. It took about 3 hours out of the box for the buds to charge. Pairing was simple and straight-forward.

Bottom line, if you are looking for audiophile level fidelity in a wireless headset, these are the ones. They are a pleasure to hear your music with the freedom of being wireless.

5 comments about Sony MDRNC22/PIN Noise Canceling Earbuds.
  1. I bought a pair of these for my recent trip to Europe. I acutally bought two pairs. ( one for daughter)

I have to say, I was really impressed by overall sound quality of the earbuds even without the NC feature turned on. I had taken my V-Moda Vibes with me to use in quiet settings, but I found myself not using them because these sounded great.

After reading several reveiws, I didn't expect a lot more functionality on the plane, but I was wrong. I was on an Air France Flight to Paris, and was pleasantly surprised how well the NC functions worked using their IN FLight Entertainment System. I also tested using my SONY MP3 player, and got very good results too.

I saw a couple of people using the BOSE NC systems, but I can't imagine having to pack and keep up with something that bulky an big. The Bose units are almost 3-4 times the price of these earbuds, and I can't imagine that they sound that much better.

I also tested these units on the Eurostar ( Train) from London to Paris, and the NC features worked just as well.

One additional test on the plane and train, and bus was to just use the earbuds with no audio at all, but just turn on the NC feature. The ambient noise dropped significantly, more so than just using ear plugs that the airline issues to all passengers.

All in ALL, I think these are very good phones, and the battery life is great for 1 AAA battery. I used one battery and used the phones for over 30 hours on this trip. 20 hours on plane, 5 hours in train, 5 hours on buses, and a couple of hours just general listening while waiting for my tour group to rendevous.

The monitor button feature is also a nice touch because you can push that button and hear the flight attendants or your seatmate when necessary without removing the earbuds from your ears.

I would highly recommend these earphones for any traveler or person that works around constant low level noise.

  2. I purchased these to use while weed eating or lawn mowing and they work nicely for that. External noise is damped well enough for me to hear clearly without blasting out my eardrums. My only difficulty is keeping the plugs in my ears. They tend to fall out at inconvenient times, but this is still a huge improvement over the headphones I was using previously.

  3. This is the forth pair of noise-canceling earphones I've bought and it is by far the best. Because they fit in your ear they shut out more noise than earphones that fit on or over your ear, and they do an amazing job of canceling other noise. Noise canceling doesn't do anything to silence the screaming child in the seat behind you. For that you need noise supression. The best thing for that is the expandable foam earplugs you can buy for a few bucks in most drug stores. Noise-canceling works against steady background sounds like the roar of a jet engine, and is most useful if you only want to block certain things -- like jet noise -- but want to hear others, like the soundtrack to the in-flight movie or the music from your iPod. These headphones are great for the latter purpose. The sound quality is very good, and their ability to cancel loud background sounds is absolutely amazing. Far better than any other headphones I've tried. Plus they are small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. I'll never travel without them again.

  4. I think the sound quality overall is pretty good-better than my other sony earbuds. However, I think the cord is too long and I agree with the other reviewer about the placement of the battery compartment. It makes the apparatus a bit unwieldy. Also, getting the buds to stay in my ears has been problematic. I have tried all three sizes of the foam covers and finally determined the best way to keep them in is to actually ignore sony's designation of left and right. Strange.

  5. I bought the noise canceling earbuds so that I could watch a movie while I run on the treadmill...between my feet pounding and the treadmill whirling I used to have to turn up the volume on my old earbuds all of the way up...killing my ears. Now I can hear pretty well without turning up the volume! There is that humming noise that everyone talks about but I only notice/hear it when there is no other noise present. Overall good for my purposes and fit in my ears very well without hurting them like some earbuds do.

  1. I've been using these daily for about three months now. They have a comfortable fit, and a good sound to them. The bass isn't extreme, but it is just the right amount. And the highs come in clearly. Although they can start to get uncomfortable after extended periods (3 hours or more usually). The sound isolation is pretty good. When you put them in, just make sure they are in your ear good and snug. If not, it will sound like there is no bass. Tune the EQ just right, and these will sound excellent.

  2. I really like the sound of these buds. Add the fact that they don't cost very much and it's a good deal.

However, after 1 month of heavy use (daily for about 2 hours), one of the rubber ear buds started to become loose and would fall off sometimes in my ear and other times on the floor. And finally, last night, it was gone... it just dropped off somewhere unknown.

Hope I can get JVC to send me a little rubber thingy...

  3. Great product - all headphone manufacturers should be following this good example (as long as they can afford to compete with cheaper alternatives).
ONLY PROBLEM - Is as already mentioned - very easy to lose the silicon rubber part that sits on top of the earbud probe. I lost mine this morning when I took them out of my ears - only used them firsdt time today and looking for spares. Hope I can find some spares after paying a higher price for them - not only bought in a retail shop but also in the UK !!!
You can turn up the volume to virtually highest setting (dependent on your device) and even in the quitest area you are in - no-one around you can hear a thing coming from your music device !!!! Even taking them out of your ears - holding in your hands, you can't hear yourself as proof - ok if you have BLASTING music coming out at higher volumes and you are partly deaf then nothing will block this out.

  4. Although these are not noise canceling ear buds, they work very well at blocking out background noise. I use these at work and they help muffle the neighboring conversations around me.

The build quality is very good. I like the extra ear bud pieces included. The case is of so-so design but I just wrap the cord around my media player anyway. The sound is also very good. Highs and lows are reproduced accurately.

You can't beat the price on this JVC ear bud set.

  1. I am a PC gamer how enjoys first-person-shooters and coordinating with my friends online with a microphone. I also like subwoofers and surround sound, and they add to PC gaming. I use a laptop for PC gaming, and for audio it only has a headphone and microphone jack. I also like voice activation for using the microphone, which would make headphones ideal. All of this together is why I was really turned on to usb surround sound headsets like the AKR8. Unfortunately, there are no stores nearby that have surround sound usb headsets that I can try, so I was limited to reading online reviews in deciding which headphones to buy.

I liked the reviews for the AKR8, and additional features. So I ordered these through amazon. When the headphones arrived, I found that they work well with music and movies, but imagine my horror when I heard all this static and crackle and crap when trying the headphones out for the first time with my favorite games BattleField 2 and Half Life 2. I was so dissapointed, I had not seen this problem mentioned in any of the reviews. However, it turns out that there is a work around. By reading the turtle beach support AKR8 website, they say to try changing the display properties. By going to display properties, advanced, troubleshoot, there is a slider bar labeled "hardware acceleration". After the game has started, if I go back out to the display properties and move the slider bar down a click or two, I can go back to the game and the static and crackle is gone. I don't have to change video or audio settings in the game itself, just in windows. My laptop runs Windows XP, has a 2 ghz dual core, 2 gb ram, and nvidia geforce go 7900 GS. It is annoying that everytime I want to play the game, I have to start the game, go to the display properties, and then back to the game, but once I do, I get great sounding surround sound, and lots of great subwoofer bass. I could use a little more subwoofer, but I don't know if that is possible with any pair of headphones. Mic seems to work fine. Four stars for the awesome sound, with a star knocked off for difficulty of set-up.

Be sure to know the return policy of the place you buy these from. I am going to keep these AKR8 headphones, yet it may not have been possible to return these headphones to Amazon if I had not found a solution to the glitch. If you buy from Turtle Beach directly, they promise a 30 day money back guarantee. There is no guarantee if not bought from turtle beach directly

  2. What was I doing before Turtle Beach ? I had a pair of standard headphones which I thought were great - until I slipped these headphones on... Imagine total surround sound in 5.1.... They are fantastic. Thank YOU Turtle Beach.

  3. With a little messing up with the equalizer and speakers you can get the best sound there is.

The adjustable head band is really comfortable compared to the really awesome AKG K-701 that crushes your head until it hurts really bad. And the grip of the headphones are a little hard too. So i would recommend to probably put some wide object like a vase or a few dvd cases between your headphones for a couple of hours until it loosens up a little bit.

There's also some crackling sound. But that doesn't really bother me that much...

    Final thoughts:
I could have rated this 4 stars but i don't think it's that bad to take a star off. Unless if I can make it 4.5, then i would give it a 4.5 stars.

    Other thoughts:
I wonder how would this compare to those X-FI sound cards from dolby...

  4. The AKR8 Headphone gives me the sound I crave. I am very happy with the quality of this headphone, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for top of the line sound.

  5. An excellant product, it's everything expected and more. The deep base and sound quality are unmatched by far, the nearest anything can come to this product are the Top of the line Bose!

  1. I owned dozens and dozens of different ear/head phones and these are the worst!

    1. its hard to put them in and keep them in place
    2. if you try to secure them it might crate high pressure in your ear since the air can't travel through the ear phones and that makes in almost unbearable to listen to music because it will hurt your ears.
    3. if you finally secure them in your ear you will hear the vibrations of the cable.

I hate to complain and I usually dont bother to even post reviews for items but I feel that this is one of the worst products I ever owned IN MY LIFE and I would seriously not take them if I was offered them for free.

Honestly you can get a better pair of ear phones for a buck at the dollar store.

  2. These produce terrible, tinny sound. I was so disappointed. The noise canceling is negligible at best and the ear pieces are uncomfortable.

  3. By far the best earbuds we (my boyfriend and I) have ever used. They are very comfortable and the music quality is GREAT. They cancel out all outside noise which is great for my boyfriend bc he works around saws and loud equipment... Have tried the others (phillips, Apple) and they dont compare.

5 comments about Sony Mdr-Ex55/Blk Ex Earbuds Headphones with Silicon Housing (Black).
  1. volume too low and pretty uncomfortable the bud style headphones from sony are alot better that these they do not block out any noise just a waste of money

  2. Don't waste your money - there are much better earbuds out there in the same price range. The range on these is terrible, with no bass and *very* shrill treble.

  3. Just purchased these Sony's for use with my Creative Zen Nano Plus (they're my 1st earbuds). I have a pair of Sony MDR CD380's that I like very much, however those aren't practical for reasons of portability. After using the Zen's built in EQ I have the E55's sounding pretty good. I could not run these "flat" as the bass was overwhelming and the highs too shrill. After some EQ'ing the sound is almost there, however for the price they should sound more balanced. Problem with earbuds is most retailers will not (understandably) let you try them out before purchase.

  4. The first thing I'll mention is if you don't have an EQ on your MP3 player then you should probably pass on these. Running these flat results in a bass heavy sound with little midrange and treble response.

I bought these as a backup set of IEMs while my Shure SE210s were being repaired under warranty. The first thing I did was adjust the EQ on my Creative Zen Vision:M to flat settings and could tell right away these were going to need some tweaking to get a decent sound. Here are the settings I'm using for these IEMs:

    80Hz -1
    250Hz -5
    1kHz +1
    4kHz +2
    13kHz +5

These settings took awhile to come to as it was hard keeping the bass from sounding too thin while keeping the midrange and highs balanced. Once I hit the sweet spot these earphones came to life! The bass sounds more balanced, the midrange doesn't sound squashed and muddy, and the highs sound more defined and detailed. Someone else mentioned the highs sound harsh but I don't find that to be the case with proper EQ.

I used these for about 3-4 days and noticed that they started sounding better, so give them some time for break-in. Stereo separation is very wide and there is this kind of downward expansion sound to them, though this may be my use of Smart Volume on the Zen. I like gain riding for a more even sound, and these phones seem to take advantage of it.

One thing about these over the Shure's is that they deliver a more colored sound. The Shure's seem more full-bodied and much more accurate, but the Sony's have deeper bass extension (with proper EQ settings) and a slightly wider soundstage with a bit more airiness. Overall they are very good if you can EQ them properly and probably worth the money.

As for build quality they are not too bad. They do fit nicely and you won't notice the feeling of them in your ears using the right size ear piece. Sound isolation is good with the proper fit (the ones pre-installed fit my ears perfectly). The cord is long enough if you wear your MP3 player on your belt. The carrying pouch is a nice bonus to keep them from getting trashed.

  5. As the price indicates, these ear buds are certainly not meant for audiophiles. The bass is exaggerated, and the highs sound somewhat tacky and cheap. They're not completely bad, however. They're quite comfortable for skiing and recreational use, and the sound characteristics of these headphones make them good for rap music and some kinds of rock. For all you audio snobs who criticize these headphones, just look at the price tag and shut up. Good sounding headphones cost at least double.
