5 comments about Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones.
- As an avid gamer, I was looking for some great headphones to fill a void when I purchased a new computer with a high quality sound card; needless to say, this filled that void easily. I've been using these headphones for over a month now and the sound quality is excellent in-game, watching movies, and listening to music. Not only do they provide superior sound quality, they're amazingly comfortable and not so gigantic that they take up half your desk. And finally, they are open-ear, so they won't block out all outside noises, which I appreciate in case I do actually have to hear something going on around me, unlike the HD280PRO, from Sennheiser, which would block out all that noise.
- Very clear, balanced sound. You hear every nuance. Open and light, i.e. not ideal if you want to cancel out ambient noise.
Easier to wear than my Sennheiser HD212pro.
- Awhile back, I decided that it was time to get a good pair of headphones for gaming, music, and other media. After weighing my options, I decided on buying these headphones. I am very satisfied with the choice I made. These headphones are very comfortable, are great for extended use, and often do forget I even have them on. The sound is incredible, the frame is built well, the cord is surprisingly lengthy, but the there is some minor sound leak that may bother someone right next to you. Other than that, these headphones are simply fabulous and I would really recommend them.
- Almost everything that can be said about these headphones, has been said, so I'll keep this mostly to physical pros and cons
Pros:
The most accurate sound you can get for 100 dollars. Not up to par with my Beyerdynamic DT880's, but at one third the cost, you are getting atleast 3/4th's the sound (if that makes sense) so they are an excellent bargain. These are easily the best headphones you can buy at 100 dollars.
The velour ear cups mean that the pressure applied to your head is very minimal, and these are indeed the second most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, next to the DT880's (I've had Grado's, AKG's, other Sennheisers etc) and the inclusion of a velour (I believe) head cushion means that the top of your head won't hurt even after hours of use.
These cans are also very easy to drive from a PC soundcard, and even on my integrated sound card, they'll go to ear splitting volumes if I am so inclined. I bought these specifically because my beyer's can't be driven by my computer, and I got sick of having to move my headphone amp between devices (Between Ipod, computer, etc).
The Bad:
An all plastic frame makes me think that one good drop might be the end of these headphones. The ear pieces are attached to a swivel joint (for comfort, which does help) but the joint is plastic as well, so it's not hard to imagine it popping off. I may just be worrying too much though, because I have a pair of all purpose koss headphones that are entirely plastic, and they've lasted atleast 10 years (though they sound terrible in comparison)
I said these were the second most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, and while that is true, there is one caveat; Even though they are comfortable, my ears are too large for the space provided (the velour sits around the ear, with your ear inside) so my ear presses against the outside of the ear pad. Not a huge deal, and not nearly as severe as with other headphones, but still an issue if you have big ears.
The biggest complaint I have is probably how much sound leaks in and out. I realize that these are open headphones, but even at low volumes, everything you are playing is easily heard by anyone in the same room (so these aren't good for dorm rooms, planes, trains, etc). I was expecting that, but I wasn't quite expecting how much sound is let in. My DT880's are also open, but they don't let nearly as much sound in or out as these Sennheiser cans. The sound of my computer fan is easily heard through the headphones if I don't up the volume a little louder than would otherwise be necessary (meaning others will hear it even more).
There is also a lack of bass with these cans. Others have said it is balanced, but I would almost go so far as to say it's a little bit diffused. Using equalization though, this problem is quickly fixed (if you see it as a problem).
One last con; These headphones come with a large (1/8th inch I believe) plug, with a very rigid 1/4th adaptor (the plug on your computer, compared to the plug on your stereo). This doesn't seem like a huge deal, but this type of adaptor is very prone to snapping and damaging your headphone cord. I'd suggest spending an extra 5 or so dollars and getting a flexible adaptor.
As with all headphones in the quasi-audiophile range (audiophiles will tell you that these cans aren't neutral enough to be audiophile quality. They are close enough at 100 dollars though) you first need to evaluate your own hearing before you spend any amount of money. I have friends that can't tell the difference between my 300 dollar Beyerdynamic headphones, and my old 30 dollar Koss headphones. If you don't have really sensitive ears, you are better off buying the cheaper Sennheisers and saving yourself some money (the 202's, the 212's, etc). I'd suggest going to a local audio store and trying these headphones side by side with a much cheaper pair, and seeing if you truly can tell the difference between the two (and then coming back to buy from Amazon, of course). Also, if you don't buy a whole lot of CD's, and most of your music is compressed MP3's you bought off the net, or songs from youtube/myspace/whatever, these headphones won't help you and they may actually make that type of music sound worse because they will expose flaws in the recording that you wouldn't have been able to hear otherwise.
In conclusion, these are the best headphones you can buy at 100 dollars, and unless you need complete isolation (if you do, I suggest the HD-280's for the same price), or you really love bass, or you have really big ears, these headphones are exactly what you are looking for.
- Nice set of headphones for less then $100. I use them for watching TV through a Denon 5.1 receiver and the sound is very good. Seem to be very sensitive since I don't need to turn the sound up very high for adequate vol. Appear to be well made and are comfortable for movie lenght. I considered other brands but took a chance with these, based on good reviews, and I have not been disappointed. I considered wireless because I would prefer not having a cord but I have not been impressed with any I tried. They really can't reproduce surround sound but are very good for times when my wife doesn't want to listen to the program I'm watching.

- I had high hopes for these headphones. I have tried many different models and thought these might fit the bill. First of all the materials are of poor quality. The screws that hold the bud portion of the headphone began to rust (too cheap to use stainless screws). Shortly after the rusting issue that sound quality deteriorated. I have never run in the rain with these, but like most people I sweat when I run. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone!
- More comfortable then most other headsets, high quality audio. Good for airline travel, although not completely noise cancelling.
- I bought these headphones for working out on an elliptical. I loved the fit and the sound. But, the right side stopped working after about 2 months of use. Very disappointing, I will not buy again.
- These are the first set of headphones that I can wear anytime. I use them with my ipod while running, doing yard work, cleaning, washing my car, and walking my dog. They stay in my ears, and are very comfortable. Apple earbuds fall out of my ears, and eventually are uncomfortable for me. I never thought I would spend this much money on headphones, but it has been worth it. Highly recommended.
- these headphones are great. they are reliable. every other pair of headphones that i had bought in the past failed in short time like the nike phones that are similar to these ones. the only problem with these headphones is the chord. it doesn't lay flat and is too long and the chord is run off of one of the ears instead out the middle of the back like the nike ones. other than that they are the best sport ones yet.

- For a pair of under $20 headphones, these sound great.
I have been through several pairs of headphones, from giveaway-grade to the $100 level. I would have been happy for these up to a $50 price point, so for under $20, they are a steal.
- These headphones sound great. There is treble and bass clarity, and it doesn't sound muddy when you turn the volume all the way up. Sound-wise, these are probably the best pair of portable headphones I have owned. However, since these headphones are so uncomfortable, it subtracted from the great sound. At first, when I took these out of the box and tried them on, they wouldn't fit and stay on. Also, the cushions were very itchy. After adjusting them for an hour, they fit a little better. I gave these headphones a chance and wore them for a week, hoping that I would get used to them. A week later though, they still didn't fit correctly and were itchy. When I say they don't fit, I mean when I shake my head (even lightly), they fall off. Despite its great sound, I ended up giving them to a friend to pay off a debt.
- ...they're a little dorky looking. They protrude out from my ears more than I'd expected - I thought they might lay a bit flatter than they do, so I'm feeling like I've got Clark Gable ears. Other than that bit of superficiality, I love them. Great sound and they stay put. Getting them on takes a bit of practice, but it's far less work initially than, say, putting in noise-cancelling ear buds.
Oh, and a lifetime warranty!
- These headphones are terrible.. two pairs broke in less than 1 month.. if you like garbage.. please buy these
- The only problem I've had with these headphones (and it's happened with both pairs that I've bought) is with the external plastic insulation on the cable. The portion of the cable that's close to each earpiece can come in contact with your face and neck. Over time, the oil in your skin can cause that part of the cable to become shiny and stiff. Eventually, the insulation will crack and the wiring will break, especially if you're wrapping the headphone cables a lot.
I've had the same problem with other brands of headphones, but not with others. I suspect that it has something to do with the type of plastic that's used to insulate the wiring.
Still, for under $20.00, they're a good buy.

- Very comfortable, great sound!! Comes with a USB cable that can be used to charge the device. Lightweight!
- I bought this headset after a lot of searching and reading the reviews here on Amazon! I had happy I bought this. First, hats off to Amazon for their on time delivery! This is a great deal. For the price, this headset is really worth every cent. Some have commented on the quality of music through this headset, but I have no complaints. Also, for 35 dollars, we cannot expect BOSE speaker quality sound! Overall, a great deal!!
- I was looking for a wireless solution to my mp3/bluetooth enabled/cell phone and this seems to be it.
A cell phone and a mp3 player was (is) the perfect marriage of the two devices I use constantly. However, the headset that came with the music bundle from my cell phone provider had severe limitations: they lacked sound quality/volume, (listening to music on my phone was like listen to music on a cheap dollar store FM radio) and the ear plugs always seemed to fall out of my ears during my cardio workouts.
The Jabra has the right price, good sound quality (well, it's not a bose but let's face it--if you were in the market for that type of big ticket item, you wouldn't have taken the time to read my review; $30 gets you clear high trebles and some decent bass), and the behind-the-neck design keeps them in place. The volume could be a little louder on both the music and the phone calls, but since the speakers cover your entire ear, they seem to block out most of the background sounds. Speaking of the size, incredibly its weight is a non-issue. You feel them on, but they seem light due to the ergonomic design. The controls for both the phone calls and the music play are intuitive and easy to learn/use. Also, the bluetooth pairing went through without incident (no wires--definitely a benefit), and the battery life...well, let's just say that my cell phone will run out of battery power before the Jabra will.
All and all, I feel I got my money's worth and then some. Anyone looking for an inexpensive wireless headset for their cell phone (mainly for music, but will handle calls reasonably well too) shouldn't be disappointed. I feel I will be using this headset for some time.
- I planned to use these headphones while doing yardwork, including mowing and weed whacking. These headphones do not get loud enough for use in this application. The 30-foot range is, well, it AIN'T!
I won't buy anything like this via mail order again. A hands-on demo would have nixed these without spending the money first.
- These are my first bluetooth headphones so I don't have anything else to compare them with but my experience with these has been quite awful. Right out the box I had connectivity issues with my LG VU. I was able to get around this by soft resetting a few times. Powering both the headphones and the phone off 30 seconds. All seemed well for a few days until the play/forward/pause buttons all seemed to stop working. I was also able to get around that issue by powering both devices off/on as well. The sound from these headphones is pretty terrible. I don't know if it's because bluetooth is a radio signal or not but everything sounds similar to a very low bitrate mp3. Think 64kbs or lower. I owned a pair of sennheiser 650-HD's connected to a tube amp before these so the quality difference is huge. Sound also becomes distorted when you put the headphones at their highest volume level. I was willing to live with the low quality sound of the headphones because I hadn't intended to use them very often but the connectivity issues killed the deal for me. The signal would frequently cut in and out until finally my phone just decided not to detect them any longer despite trying to soft reset.

- I bought these for my friend and she loves them. I bought J-buds for myself, and I can definitely hear the difference in sound quality between the two. It would be great to have some noise canceling, though, but you need to pay a bit more for that.
- The first thing I noticed about these headphones was how comfortable they were in my ear. I own other in-ear phones that are not as nice as these. The sound quality is fantastic, which is expected of Sennheiser. They also do a really good job of blocking out external noise. However, don't confuse that with noise-canceling headphones. There's a big difference!!
The only issue I have with the headphones is the short/long wire setup. This forces one to put your portable media device on the left side of your body. For some reason, I've gotten used to the right side, so this took some getting used to. Other then that, they are great and I would highly recommend.
The only other comment that I have is about the in-ear design. The only time I don't like wearing these is when I'm already in a quiet room. I can hear myself breath through the headphones, which is kind of strange. I wonder if others have the same experience. I much rather use over the ear headphones in those situations. These headphones are great when used in noisy situations, like on a bus/train, or cutting the lawn. Another alternative is to use the noise-canceling headphones.
- Earbuds sound great with mp3 player or dvd player. I was pleasantly surprised they sounded so good, very comfortable and sturdy too. Would highly recommend.
- I've had these earbuds for over a year and they have held up great. The sound quality is very good. Clear, strong base and excellent treble. I don't mind the "Behind the neck" style cord that others have complained about. I don't use them to run or workout. I find that most in-ear buds are not good for active sports. I would recommend a different specialized headphone for working out with. The Sony earbuds have a faulty cord made out of some very delicate soft rubbber. The cord on these are very durable and after a year look just like thaey did when I bought them.
In my opinion they are the best earbuds under $50.
- I have had them for several weeks and they have met my expectations of them.

5 comments about Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones (White).
- I use these ear buds everyday at work. I work outdoors with power equipment and the isolation is great. I don't have to run the volume so high.
- The hands down best feature of these earphones is the sound isolation. I use them on the train and periodically on the airplane, and the difference is stunning. Not only do they cut down the noise of the train/plane, but also of the other passengers. It means I can concentrate without any distractions.
My husband uses his pair in his office (shared with another person) every day. The main drawback is that he doesn't always hear the phone ring and doesn't hear people come into the office (the door is slightly behind him). I used to think that he keeps the volume too high, but in fact it's not. He just seems to get the tips inserted better into his ears than I do.
I listen to a lot of podcasts, and have noticed that the sound isolation is better with music, where the sound is more constant.
The fit takes a bit of practice, but it's worth it. After about a year and a half, we did buy new ear tips, but that's the only maintenance we've had to do so far.
In summary: we love them!
- My need was straightforward: I needed ear speakers of some sort that would not fall off my ears with the slightest movement like earbuds do. An overhead band would be uncomfortable and interfere with lying on a pillow or back in a chair. I was skeptical about how in-the-ear speakers would feel, as my inner ears are very sensitive. These ER6i earphones delighted me with their very soft silicon ear covers. I can wear them for hours and often forget I have them on.
I am not an audiophile, so I can't begin to pass judgment on the audio quality; all I know is that I hear my recorded lectures and talk radio shows completely clearly. I am very pleased I made this purchase.
- If you are looking for earphones with good sound and excellent comfort, these should be on your short list. I have tried many brands and the Etymotic Research ER6i sound very good (a little light on the bass, however) but they are by far the most comfortable earphones I have ever used. I even forgot they were in my ears which has never happened before. If you're looking for a really good pair of earphones just plug these in and adjust the bass on your equalizer for a great listening experience.
- Fit: Both the foam and the flange attachments fit comfortably within my ears whereas many other earphones have not. This was a pleasant surprise. Also, a quick note is that you MUST follow the directions on inserting the earphones. This will ensure a tight seal resulting in improved fit, sound dampening, and sound quality.
Sound: The sound is crystal clear and does indeed compensate for the wimpy bass on my ipod. It's not to say that its bass will blow you away, but instead, the bass is extremely accurate and just punchy enough. Also, the higher range and all layers of the music are extremely accurate and well defined. This goes for everything from Mahler to Tool. Every instrument and layer is heard. Definitely will force you to upgrade the quality of your MP3s in your library! Lastly, the dampening is simply amazing. It's great for falling asleep as well as commuting.
Overall, I was between these, and the Bose Tri-port In-ear headphones. If you are serious about the quality of your sound and obtaining a set of "true" in-ear headphones (as the bose more so sit on the inside of your ear instead of going into the ear), then I would definitely recommend the ER6i. This is a deal not to be passed up. Recommended.

5 comments about Sennheiser HD-280 Professional Headphones.
- I bought these headphones bearing them in mind that I would use them at work primarily for blocking out the gossip ninnies. I find them a little tight, but I don't notice after wearing them for 10 minutes. The sound reproduction is well balanced all around. Being that these are over the head cans, I think I will get more use out of them if I make an Altoids tin amp one of these days.
- I was looking for a new set of cans, headphones that is... i had always bought the 19.99 -30.00 cheapos, and inevitably after a few months or a year they would breakdown. no biggie, it's like cheap sunglasses. Well, I have been getting more into recording and wanted to find a little bit better set. A friend of mine suggested the high-end senheiser, which are bit tooo high end for my budget and they are all open ear design (meaning that the headphones aren't fully enclosed for a more natural sound experience) the problem is that the sound bleeds quite noticably and this would not be ok.
anways, i did some research and decided on the HD 280 Pro set from sennheiser and i am EXTREMELY happy. I can hear things in songs that i had never heard before. like singer's taking breaths, clicking of guitar strings even the clarity of notes.
The 280s fit over the ear snugly, but there is plenty of padding so it is quite comfy. Though they can get a little warm. My only complaint would be that they are ever so slightly muddy, but i expected this after reading the difference between closed ear and open ear headphones. open have a much brighter, punchy sound..while the closed tend to be fuller.
Great headphones at a very reasonable price.
- Really solid headphones, nice and sturdy. They take a little time getting used to the pressure that they put on your ears but once you get past that they sound fantastic. They also eliminate pretty much all of the background noise.
- These headphones are great. Great sound. Great bass, Man I almost didn't buy these because people said there was not a great bass. Glad I didn't listen to them. The Bass is amazing, and I would know I'm Jamaican, man. These babies also get loud. Holy $h!t, man blow your house away. These are better than most of the brands in $500 range, pretty amazing. Pro quality headphones, for hobo's price range. Buy these headphones, great for Bob Marley, man. And they're German so you know they are made well. Sennheiser HD 280 is the only way to go. One love, man.
- I bought a pair of these 4 or 5 years ago and my treatment of them has been nothing short of abusive. I really beat the hell out of them, for years, and they hold up like a champ. They sound great too but that's all in the spec sheet.

- I was happy when I first got my earphones, but have been slightly dissatisfied with them. They work and all, but there've been a few defects. On the earphones themselves have an L and R for each ear ... but this has rubbed off quite quickly to where they've already disappeared. Also, on my left earphone, the top popped OFF, so i had to use gorilla glue to put it back on and make it stay there. Otherwise, I am happy that I got iPod earphones from the non-apple company for A LOT cheaper.
[:
- i've been using this for 2 yrs. About 2 wks ago, the sound in the right ear bud became thinner. But 2 yrs is not bad, especially since is not expensive. They fit into my ear well, never falls out while i'm working out. The sound quality is not bad, if u r not very particular about getting the ear bud with the best sound, this one definitely works. Overall i like it, i'm getting another one.
- The earphones work great and the shipping and handling was fast. I had my earphones on time to take them to work. So far the product is good but not real like the iPod headphones. The plastic wire that covers the earphones seems to be a little stiffer than the original ones making it harder to straighten. But overall the product is great.
- no expensive but quality guaranteed, good choice if you want to enjoy high quality music but do not want to spend tens of dollars on sennheiser stuffs...
- So far I have had two pairs of apple headphones for my ipod. The first pair came with my ipod and at first they worked really good but then they started to fall apart after a month and a half. Then I bought a second pair thinking I was just careless witht the headphones. Of course my new pair was working really good but after a couple months static started to come from the right. They work good at first but break and fall apart easy. Very annoying for how much they cost and wll not buy these headphones again.

5 comments about Plantronics MX150 Flexible Boom Headset with 2.5 mm Plug.
- I purchased this headset in August 2007 and have used them fairly frequently, but they just died on me this month (June 2008; 10 months later). The sounds quality was great, comfort was generally fine, although personally I wasn't a fan of the part that goes around your ear lobe (it would hurt me after a while), but it's necessary for them to stay in well. Now when I put them in, the phone knows a headset is in, but the sound doesn't work. If I align it at a certain angle and then push down on the curved wire near the base, I can get some sound to permeate, but it's temporary. Looking at these recommendations, I see the long-lasting nature of this item is questionable. However, for under $10, 10 months of a functioning headset isn't bad. If these had cost me $45, I would have been angry. Note that this is not a Plantronics headset despite the title (at least from the vendor that I chose). You can tell because there are no markings or packaging. I have since bought the MX256-X1, which clearly IS made by Plantronics. We'll see how they compare. Overall, this a decent headset with great quality, comfort is generally okay, and durability is questionable at best.
- Surprisingly comfy from the shape of the ear piece. It goes around your ear a funky way, but it is very wearable! PLUS it doesn't bother my ear since I have glasses. I like Plantronics
- This works just as well as the last one I had bought for $30 at Best Buy. Clear sound for both ends of the conversation & easy to put on .
- I needed to replace my previous MX150 after I dropped it in the water :( the replacement was just as good as my original, excellent sound and good fit in either ear.
- This is the only wired earpiece that doesn't fall of. Comfortable and good sound quality.

5 comments about Sony Mdr-Ex75/Blk Ex Earbuds Headphones with 9Mm Hi-Sensitivity Driver (Black).
- I bought these to replace my EX71s that died a couple days ago. Man, are these an improvement! Why?
1. The sound: These seem to have a much more "real" sound to them. The highs are brighter, without being tinny, and the low end is punchy and tight. To me, these sound as good as, if not better than, the higher-priced Shure, Sennheiser, and Bose buds.
2. The appearance: This set looks much better than the 71s. Not a huge factor in my book, but it may be in yours.
3. The cord: These cords don't tangle as badly as the older Sonys did. They also abandoned the one-side-longer-than-the-other design, for the more traditional V-shape.
4. The buds themselves: The silicone parts actually stay attached to the plastic housing on this model! (a known issue with previous models)
5. The price: The bang for the buck factor on this set is at the top end of the scale. These $40 headphones compete with models 5X to 10X their cost.
What you get:
- 1 pair of headphones w/ medium buds installed
- 1 2' extension cord
- 2 extra sets of silicone buds (sizes Small and Large)
- 1 plastic carrying case
What you won't get:
- Buyer's remorse!
- I have been through numerous brands and models of earbuds. I recently bought the Ex75 with the 9 Mm drivers more out of curiosity than anything else. I immediately concluded that these were the best buy earbuds for the money. I use them along with my Grado-80 headset for iPod listening, and am still comparing them against my Grado-225 for non-compressed home stereo listening.
- The earphones sound good - better than the standard Ipod earbuds in my opinion. The earphones block out surrounding noises reasonably well (good for blocking out noisy coworkers or for use on short flights), although nothing at all compared with noise cancelling headphones.
- Sony Mdr-Ex75/Blk Ex Earbuds Headphones with 9Mm Hi-Sensitivity Driver (Black)
These Sony EX75 earbuds are the best ones I've ever tried. The sound quality is excellent. I love having a shorter cord with an extension if you need it. The earbuds stay in my ears easily without falling out. I tried the $100 Bose earbuds and perfer these instead. The sound is as good as the Bose. Plus these are extremely light weight which I love. These are my first pick of anything out there. I love every single feature about them.
- Great product, sound transmission is very good. Great product for it's price. It's the best sound I've gotten from headphones. Compared them to BOSE overhead headphones and the sound is very much the same, without the expensive price.
