5 comments about JVC HANC80 Folding Noise Cancelling Headphone.
- As another reviewer has commented, these reduce noise, they don't eliminate it. If you need something portable when commuting, they fit the bill. They aren't particularly heavy, and the sound is better than the average set of earbuds. One minor gripe about them. You need a AAA battery to use the noise reduction feature, and you MUST remember to turn off the power switch for the noise reduction when you aren't using the headphones. The headphones appear to draw battery power even when you aren't listening to music.
- I just purchased these headphones and based on its price range they are great. They do a good job of noise reduction. They will not cancel out all the sounds around you. However, I was riding on the bus this morning and was able to listen to my iPod without blasting the music.
I also noticed that they were good when walking on the noisy streets of New York City. Except for extremely loud areas where construction was occurring they blocked out enough of the sound for me to enjoy the music.
The headphones have two modes, low and wide, as noted in the production description. I find the wide setting to block out the most noise.
The headphones are very portable. Besides folding up they come with a carrying pouch and an adapter to insert them into a two prong plug such as those found in airline seating.
My only issue is that the headphones appear to grip my ears too tightly and I have a small head. They are padded and comfortable, but I can see where they might become uncomfortable after many hours (6-8 hours?) of use. This is why I give it four stars.
In conclusion if I lost this pair of headphones today I would have no issue purchasing the same ones again. It works well for its price range, does a good job at reducing noise, and Amazon is offering them at a good price. They retail for $59.99 and Amazon has them at $31 the last time I checked.
- A $5 earbud piece from Taiwan does a better job at noise cancelling than this JVC piece. Just how bad is it? I listen to music using the noise cancelling feature while standing next to a 6" table fan. I can hear the drone of the whisper-quiet fan through the JVC headphone! Steer clear of this worthles piece of equipment.
- I've had these headphones for a few weeks. I bought them b/c of the combination of price, foldability, noise-cancellation, good reviews, and a comment that they were good for small head sizes. For me, these are really good. The battery and control for the noise-cancelling feature are in the headset, which I like. They cancel noise better and are more comfortable than some low-end Sony headphones I had previously. I like the foldability. So far, no problems with them. I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars because I am fairly inexperienced in judging head-set quality, so I didn't want to go misleadingly overboard.
- I purchased these and am very pleased with the noise reduction technology however they snapped apart within 2 weeks of purchase as I was adjusting the slide to fit. I had thought about Bose over the ear headphones but decided to go with the lower cost alternative first.

5 comments about Koss UR40 Collapsible Over-Ear Headphones.
- I needed a set of headphones for travel purposes, so I was looking for:
(1) Collapsible
(2) Comfortable to wear for long periods
(3) Not too much sound leakage, nor completely noise-canceling
(4) Solid sound quality
These headphones do fine on all 4 counts. The treble is not great, but it's not bad either, and the headphones are really comfortable. Compared to the Sennheiser PX-100s, these Koss headphones don't fold up into as tiny a unit and are a touch behind in sound quality. In the end, I went with these over those Sennheisers because of the noise issue, since these Koss headphones are better at keeping outside sounds out and inside sounds in, in my opinion. If you're not as concerned about the noise issue, I'd give the nod to the PX-100s over this one.
- I bought these headphones about 5 years ago from a (now defunct) local CompUSA. They were bargain bin items at the time, and I picked them up for about 25$. For the price, this may have been the single best purchase of my life.
The sound quality is as stated in other reviews, not "audiophile grade" but certainly better than expected from a 25-40$ headphone.
What surprised me was their durability. These headphones have spent every single day of the last 5 years in and out of my (soft) laptop case/backpack, stuck between 2 hard drive enclosures and random other junk.
About a year ago, the right can's cable worked its way loose from the stress relief grommet. The can still worked fine. After another year of my habitual "wind it around the folded headphones" cable storage method, it finally let loose and shorted the right ear.
After 5 years.
All the paint has worn off them, and they're now white instead of silver. The vinyl covering the foam has held up perfectly, which is amazing considering my hair has destroyed 6 sets of headphone's covers in far less time (6 months or less).
Still, all of this in a sub-40$ headphone? The only reason I haven't taken advantage of the warranty is that I'm fairly impressed at what it took to kill them, and am considering just replacing these and keeping them as tribute.
- I actually owned a pair of these before, which I bought at our local Radio Shack. Unfortunately, I managed to close my font door on the cord through my own stupidity, then proceeded to tug on it like an idiot until it severed, hence requiring me to buy a replacement pair, which is, to an extent, beside the point, but not quite.
See, I loved these headphones enough to gladly buy the exact same make to replace my lost pair. They might not jolly the rogers of really hardcore audiophiles, but for a casual music fanatic like my self, they're exemplary. Certainly the best headphones I've ever owned. The sound is clear, and certainly surpasses the quality of any cheapo pair you could ever buy. I've found that it retains sound quality even at high volumes, and the over-the-ear design is both comfortable, and forms a certain barrier against outside noises. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten lost in my music during a long walk around the lake, or to work, thanks to these. Interestingly enough--and this might sound silly--but my favorite part though, has to be the mesh hammock. I have a peculiar head shape, and the nerves of my scalp and skull are so sensitive that even light pressure can give me migraines. Regular headphone bands are painful, and padded ones, only slightly less so (usually I find the cushion to be stiff, uncomfortable, and only a source of added pressure, but the unique mesh really gives the sensation that you're not wearing them at all. Even it's slightly clunky appearance is endearing in my opinion; my huge silver UR40s are my most noticeable fashion statement, and everyone knows me as the girl who wanders Magnolia with her headphones.
I'll probably trade up to something better eventually, I'm sure, when I have the time and money to really go shopping, but for now, the UR40s are all I could ever ask for.
- I really recommend buy this headphone. Excellent sound output at this price. There are 2 reasons for me not giving this product a 5 star rating is..
1) Little too bulky although collapsible.
2) There is no microphone built with it. Other products like Planotronics have microphones along with the headphone at the same price.
- I really enjoy these for casual listening. the bass is very relaxed and mellow, and the soundstage is fairly open. basically meaning it sounds much more like regular loudspeakers, instead of tiny tin cans like most other cheap headphones. they are not fatiguing on the ears which is nice. Most importantly these are fairly forgiving on cheap source material. will not expose every flaw viciously like other cans. Also another user noted that these had extreme bass. this is hardly the case at all.
the construction is sub par. cheap plastic, the cloth headband ripped off easily. the chord died fairly easily. i upgraded it with 18awg speaker wire. actually improved performance. when i redid wiring i made it so that the cord only passed through left side.
I am a serious music listener. i am putting these against Sony's Mdr-7506 headphones which pretty much set the standard. I used a dedicated headphone amp, and plug my ipod in using the line out.
I got them for dirt cheap so i can really forgive their shortcomings. But there is no competition between these and something like a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones. Don't expect a miracle. I like them simply because they very light, and easy on the ears. I would rather save up for serious cans like something from beyerdynamic or high end sony. they will last a long time, and they have accurate music reproduction. Nady makes the DJH-2000 headphones give these a shot in this price range. got these for a friend and i was blown away.

5 comments about V-Moda Vibe Duo Earbuds / Headset (iPhone Compatible) - Chrome.
- I bought these for 59 bucks at BuyCheap here on Amazon! Lowest price anywhere and they soung great. My biggest complaint with other iPhone earbuds was the lack of bass. These have just enough without being overpowering.Supports iPhone forward.back, and pause functions as well as a mic for the phone. I would highly recomend for anyone with a 1st or 2nd generation iPhone.
- I bought the V-MODA Vibe Duo Earphones/Headset for my new 3G iPhone on 8/8 and on 10/4 I lost volume to the right ear. I had to wiggle with the cord right at the base to hear something, which is not cool when you've spent $299 on a phone that you paid $399 for 9 months earlier (another story) and another $100 for headphones!!! So I took them back today and the sales associate told me, "You know we don't normally do this since its past the 14 days, but as a courtesy..." Yeah ok I should not have to replace $100 headphones every 60 days!!!! Especially when I'm unemployed.
Something to be said for a product, when customers continually buy a product that will break in a few months. ( see reviews where people are on their 3rd of 4th pair!!!) They are really that damn good, if only for 2-3 months :-(
(FYI - This review is posted on Apple and CNET as well)
- Like many other reviews, a word of caution, one earbud stopped working after about year. For the price, I find this unacceptable. I will not buy V-MODA products again.
- I got these about 3-4 months ago. I read the reviews about the reliability problems, but decided to go for it anyways. I was careful with them and made sure I was not bending the cables, etc. When not using them, I stored them in the small pouch that comes with them. You get the picture.
I loved them...until now. Yesterday, the left ear started shorting out. Today, it's worse. Tomorrow, I'll be getting a new set of different headphones.
For the price, this is really not acceptable. I'm really disappointed.
- I bought these earbuds based on reviews on the quality of the sound. They do sound good, and the design looks rugged. But, the connector to the iPhone is poorly designed and the wires inside become disconnected within a relatively short time. VModa will replace the earbuds, but the design hasn't changed, and the connector fails consistently. The second time these earbuds failed, I got curious and took apart the connector. The problem is obvious: there is no strain relief between the wire and the solder joint. If you get your earbud wire caught on something while you are walking (everybody does), all the strain is taken at the solder joint, and it eventually fails.
You'd think these folks would figure it out and use a redesigned connector. For this price you should expect better component quality.

5 comments about Pioneer SE-DIR800C HDPH Dolby Digital 5.1 Wireless Headphones.
- Like being in the middle of the action. Takes getting used to. I kept moving my head left and right to see what was over there where I heard the sound coming from. My hearing has been diminished due to jet engine noise from flying in the USAF, poor between 2000 and 3000 cycles and almost nothing above 3000 cycles; yet, I had no problems hearing and understanding what was said, much better than in the movies or a surround sound setting.
- First off, I'm an Audiophile and have enjoyed music to unhealthy levels for 25+ years AND don't wear a hearing aid.... although, I'll be first to admit, my hearing with background noise is not good.... although, one on one with no loud ambient noise is good.
Here goes.... These things speak for themselves!! The people with the negative comments have no clue what they're talking about!! Possible problems:
1) have a totally different brand, model and decade.
2) hooked up horrible incorrect.
3) a defective pair.
4) have never had a pair of headphones on their heads EVER.....and have only ever heard Pink Floyd through a Carver Amp and 1,000 watt speakers placed 3 feet away from each ear respectively.
5) TERRIBLE source material.
6) need an amazing hearing aid.
Bottom line, the better the connection and material, the better they will sound. If you want INCREDIBLE bass, either listen to Hip-Hop/Rap OR pump in or record your ROCK with the EQ put in to the recording/source material. Easily done, just use a little imagination with your material and connections..... and these will TOTALLY SCREAM if you make ANY effort towards that end.... you could be writing this review instead of one damning them all to heck!!
Now, the only downside is line-of-sight..... I use these when I'm on the couch at night.... When I'm running in and out of the room for food....lol... I grab my Sennheiser's RS-130's . They're GREAT for going through walls. They're not as loud and of course, the like WOW... and where did that come from isn't there.... but hey, you pay for the walls. Still, before I finally sprang for these, I thought those were good.... they still are....just that these are GREAT! Case in point, I don't write reviews..... but I couldn't stand people RIPPING on these babies any longer..... It's a TOTAL injustice!!
One last thing.... The sound is FOR REAL.... I feel terribly guilty.... At times, I'm thinking my loud speakers are on..... and CRANKIN.... or that people gotta be hearing this..... alotta weird brain things... hard to explain, the surround, the whole deal is real and it will bend reality and perception.... YOU really gotta experience them... Do me a favor and take your cheap-A$$ to the checkout and PURCHASE THEM. Worst case, re-sell them on Ebay...... But trust me, if you're reading this review, you WANT these, you NEED these and will NEVER part with "THEM"
- Pros: The headphones eliminate the problem of the TV having to compete with the sounds of kids, dishes, pots, pans, phones, doorbells and other household chaos. They're comfortable. The infrared signal remains strong (unless you hold something in front of you, like a magazine, that blocks the signal). Battery life is decent. Sound quality is decent.
Cons: Couldn't they have at least made the "MADE IN CHINA" label a little smaller? The volume knob on the headphones is awkward. It should stick out a little more so you can get your fingers around it. The amplifier in the headphones could be a little more robust. Volume levels for most movies and TV programs is adequate, but it could really be better for music, concert DVDs, etc. (I use the optical connection to the source and it's still not enough).
If you must have wireless headphones these are pretty nice... if you can swallow the price (I paid $269 from JR Music in NY).
- I love my DVDs, a good sci-fi or action flick always sounds better in 5.1 sound. However, my roommates don't appreciate me blasting movies and time sharing the TV is a bit cumbersome. I wanted a way to make my MacBook Pro into my DVD player and using this coupled with a toslink cable with a mini-plug fit the bill nicely.
When I am listening to a movie, the sound is completely immersive. The bass is deep and rumbling and the highs are crisp and clear. The sound is truly surrounding you, it's amazing how well it replicates 5.1.
Comfort is very good. I wear glasses and it fits around the arm of my glasses, it does not create hot spots and I can wear them for two movies without issue. I bought two of these, one for me to wear and one for my girlfriend so we can both watch movies. One transmitter drives two headphones without ANY problems since it just pushes out infrared beams.
It comes with two AA NiMH rechargeable batteries, but I recommend using Sanyo Eneloops as the Eneloops give you alkaline performance (don't lose a charge when not used) with NiMH capabilities. I watched four movies before putting the Eneloops in the charger (even though the headphones weren't indicating low battery power).
The front display tells you what mode it's in (Digital, Pro Logic II or DTS). The other banks of LEDs tell you what headphone mode it's in (dampened room, normal room , concert hall) and if it's movie, music or auto mode for Pro Logic II processing.
A note for Mac owners to make this recognize digital input:
1) Insert TOSLINK cable (either toslink > Toslink or mini-plug > Toslink) so your Mac goes into digital output mode.
2) Open up DVD player without a disk inserted
3) Click on Preferences > Disc Setup
4) In Audio Source, select "Digital"
5) Play DVD and enjoy rich digital sound
These headphones will not disappoint you!
- While in the warranty the head set broke just above the yoke holding the right can. I drove 100 miles to a authorized customer service site and was told to call California. California said to send the head set in after I described the problem. The head set was returned in the same broken condition with no explanation. I called Customer service in California again and was told the warranty didn't cover breakage. I explained there had been no abuse but they didn't care and would only offer to sell a new head set for almost the price of the complete new unit. I used tie wraps to put the thing together. Yesterday the other side broke in the same place. It appears to be a severe design flaw. It also would be nice to have a stand to store the headset when not in use that would keep the batteries recharged.

5 comments about V-MODA Bass Freq Earbuds - Hot Pink.
- These buds work great if your player has little or no bass ONLY! If your player has even ok bass these buds will "clip" (distort) bass (great for Zen StoneCreative Zen Stone Plus 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) player not good for Zen VCreative Zen V Plus 4 GB Portable Media Player (Black/Blue)). These buds a very sensitive too which means tiny players with tiny batteries last longer per charge.
- Sounds great..I use it with my ipod..I also use it with my laptop & my portable DVD player..Bass sounds great..Treble does too!!
- a bit too bassy and muffled but perfect when you adjust the EQ on your Ipod. It sounds amazing even on the subway!
- If you own a Creative player, then you NEED these. Now, they don't go all the way in the ear canal and you have to find the right fit for them, but they are perfect!! I listen to Hip Hop, R&B, Club, Electro, House, and every one of these sounds great!!! They don't have "too much bass" as some people like to say. Get these, I know I am getting another pair right now.
- It only took a month for this piece of junk to stop working, sound only comes out of one side now. Sound quality and fit were good, but what does it matter if they don't work?

- I am surprised on how hard it is to find this type of adapter. I can now use my phone headset with my computer and only need to carry one headset.
Get the Motorola 2.5mm `Mono Hands-Free Headset' it is dirt cheep and small, great as a spare or for travel or combine it with the T-Link if you are hearing impaired. Now you have a solution for your computer that is as good as the T-Link is for your phones.
- I use this little adapter with my laptop and my Blackberry headset in order to use VOIP (my company's OCS, Skype, VonageTalk, etc.). It lets me make hotspot calls more discreetly since I don't have to pull on a jumbo headset. I can hear others clearly and no one has complained about my voice quality. It certainly beats toting around multiple headsets.
- This is great - I still use a "cord" headset for my cell phone, and now I can use it also for my laptop/skype by carrying this tiny accessory. very pleased. My $10 routine cell phone headset even gave OK performance in a speech-to-text program on my laptop (dragon naturallyspeaking; it accepted eight or ten sentences at 100% accuracy) although experts say the best headset possible is to be used for text to speech work. In short, this little connector device has several uses and is very tiny and cheap.
- I am looking for a similar product that works with the iPhone headset. The 2.5mm jack is too small for the iPhone headset - I think it would need to be 3.5mm
- Use it with a 2.5mm headset on my computer for video conferencing. Works great and the audio and mic both are very good.

5 comments about Ultimate Ears Super.fi 4vi Earphones / Headset (iPhone Compatible).
- Yes it's true even though they died after only 6 weeks light daily use I was going to get another pair. I loved them, the sound, the way they fit in my ears, the look, the design everything. I thought I was just not careful enough but all the others say its the little wires inside get broken too easily. If I thought I could get them to last longer say at least 6 months I would get another pair. However, the other reviewers talked me out of that fantasy.
- The sound quality is rather average compared to my Shure EC4 or EC3s. The call answer/end button is hard to push. However, the biggest defect is that the earbuds don't stay on the drivers and often end up in my ears.
- These are great sounding, well-designed earphones. The only thing preventing them from a five star rating is the absence of a deep bass tone. These however are every bit worth the money!
- I have used Shure E3c and Bose quiet comfort headphones and like the price and performance of the UE 4vi. I really like the microphone and control integration. Any complaint about the button should be taken with a grain of salt. UE has redesigned the button so that it is a real button and not a membrane button. It works great. If you have used the iphone earphones, you'll understand how nice this control is.
The UE 4vi does a great job at blocking external sounds. This allows you to listen to your audio at a lower volume. The microphone works great. I use it on conference calls nearly every day and no one complains of noise. You will have to train yourself to talk at a normal level if you have the earphones in while talking. People will naturally speak louder when they can't hear themselves.
The more expensive ones are probably pretty nice, but I am glad that I saved myself a bit of money and went with this pair.
- This product is Ok - not worth the hype nor the money. They function fine but not the be all - end all that are advertised.

5 comments about Apple In-Ear Headphones- M9394G/C.
- I bought them to replace a great pair of Sony's that sound great but have a poor cord design that has to go around the neck. I bought these an the Apple store and they are terrible. For those who have no trouble with them staying in your ears that's great but for me even using the smallest tips they not only don't go in far enough they keep popping out. They will be returned post haste.
- I purchased these to try to see if they might offer a more snug fit than the ones that came with the iPod. To my disappointment, the fit is about the same. But,the real shock was the poor sound quality. I compared the original phones with these many times, but this product sounds painfully tinny, and has very little full base and mid-range. Despite adjusting the iPod EQ to many settings, I couldn't get rid of the tinny sound.
- I bought this product so I can avoid outside noise. However; compared with the set of headphones that came with the unit, this headphone is inferior in sound. The speaker is much smaller and you lose quality, especially bass. Better to stick with something on line that comes with the unit that is larger in speaker size.
- Earphones fit well and are an improvement over the base headphones provided by Apple for the shuffle.
- Sounds good, but bad design. I ear holes happen to not fit any of those buds. =/

5 comments about Sony MDR-V700DJ DJ Style Monitor Series Headphones.
- These headphones are a must buy. They are very comfortable and have really good sound. I use them for music, games, movies, and tv shows that I play on my computer and the sound is teriffic. They have just the right amount of bass, and are really good for games especially. I would recommend these headphones to anyone. In order for these headphones to last they have to be taken care of really carefully because the plastic that holds the cups on will crack if you're careless. Overall, these headphones are a great purchase and I will buy these again.
- These are awesome. I use mine mostly for gaming on my laptop but the sound if amazing for music. Stylish and I got mine for a great price on here. I'm more than happy with my decision.
- The Sony 700s are pretty much a standard in the DJ world. They deliver decent enough sound with minimal distortion... but that's about where the pros of the 700 end.
Any deejay that has ever *used* these will tell you two things:
1) The swivel arm casing (tubular plastic in design) will crack and eventually snap in half. When this happens the ear cup will dangle by the wires... :(
2) The cable itself is of poor design and the right side will eventually die, leaving that side useless. I'll explain a way to ensure this doesn't happen below. This is especially an issue when using any of the Pioneer mixers (pretty much the standard mixer in all the clubs I've played) if you have an Empath this wont be an issue.
You could fix the arm casing if you wanted by using super glue or something, but for the price you shouldn't need to do that.
Don't get me wrong, I like everything about them aside from the above, it's just that you can do better with the Technics and about the same with the Pioneer headphones.
If you plan on using these for home use in a controlled environment (aka you're not letting others use them) they should work out well.
As for the cable, most of the deejays I know all use a similar trick to help preserve the life of it, it's simple:
Take the "plug" in your left hand. with your right hand grab the cable where the coils begin. Wrap the first 4-5 coils around the black part of the plug, carefully ensuring that the wrap is secure.
If you should end up with a loop at the top of the cable. When pulling on the cord the stress will transfer to the coil wrapped on the plug and not the more fragile portion at the top of the plug.
This will make your cable outlast the rest of your headphones... long after the casings have snapped in half, been reglued and snapped again... your cable will still function.
- these are great headphones my only complaint would be the built in eq; sounds good but is not accurate to the sound out put for live shows.
- I had to buy headphones for three reasons. 1. I live in an apartment that isn't "noise" friendly. 2. I love music and movies 3. I play music professionally and needed some good monitor headphones that sound like live shows (extra bass).
Ok Cons first.
1.Yes they are heavier then most headphones (get over this quickly unless you are old or you have the neck of a 4 year old child).
2. You will look ridiculous in these (unless your ego is as big as mine)
3. Thats all the cons
Now the pros
1. These Headphones kicked the crap out of my friends Bose he left at my house. Ok my friend works for a company I will not tell you (starts with A ends with pple) So he got a discount on the Bose Headphones. I tried them on and was very happy about the acoustic sound and light weight. Yet when the bass came into the song there was none. Bose do not make anything that gets past the mid range and anyone who buys from them knows this (if it doesn't have a sub there is no bass people).
2. When watching movies at home the 1/4 jack packs extra punch. I have a Onkyo receiver hooked up to a 7.1 jbl system usually watching movies from my ps3 through the digital optical port directly into my onkyo. So when action sequences start I want to hear them. These headphones work perfectly and give me the bass that I spent so much money getting and not being able to use at 2 a.m. in the morning. These headphones make the perfect substitute to my terrible hours and need to watch movies late at night.
3. The Price. My friend spent $120 on his and obviously loves them because he left them at my house for over 3 weeks now. I actually got these at B & H photo for $89 and a 2 year warranty for $11 (sorry amazon I still love you). Also now that I have these people that frequently "crash" at my place know to use these and not wake me up in the morning (afternoon).
Overall nothing will ever be perfect and yes they are a bit clunky for the lazy in all of us but the price and sound quality definitely make up the difference.
