5 comments about Skullcandy Chops Hanger Earbuds - Purple.
- these are my second pair of skullcandy headphones and just AS I EXPECTED they truley rock.
- Normally, I love skullcandy merchandise. But these chops feel like headphones from the dollar tree.
The sound quality is mediocre at best.
But the confort it provides is decent given that it stays on your ears because it clips there.
But what really makes these headphones terrible, and hopefully a flaw that most skullcandy headphones won't have, is the lifespan of the plug.
I've taken good care of my chops, and they barely lasted me 2 weeks before the plug began to act up, and die.
Terrible product!
- Over the past few years, I've converted to buying skullcandy products. I have a pair of Smokin' Buds, as well as Lowriders. Both I am completely impressed with and love to wear.
Therefore, when I decided to get some over-the-ear headphones to wear for sports (I snowboard), I automatically went with skullcandy. BAD IDEA. Straight out of the package, I skimmed my iPod for a good song to test them out on. I tried them with Chamillionaire...the bass wasn't even audible. I tried Aerosmith...the high notes were grainy and unbearable to listen to. I tried Death Cab for Cutie...even the middle-ground notes were fuzzy and really made me want to just turn off my iPod.
They're comfortable, I'll give them that...but as for actually listening to anything with them on, probably not going to happen. And, for 20 bucks, I expect way more. Wal-Mart can give me $5 headphones that work better than this! I returned mine today (I bought them yesterday) and spent 10 more bucks for the Nike Vapors. WAY better.
Actually, anything would be better than these...
- I bought these as a replacement for some old Sony headphones that I have had for years. Now, I don't any of the ear buds nor do I own any of the other larger versions that this company makes. I do own one set of overpriced earphones that have a very tinny sound (tinny not tiny) that not only won't stay in my ears when I work out, they won't even stay in when I am sitting still. Do yourself a favor and buy a pair of ten dollar Sony's that stay in, have a good sound and block out any outside noise.
- I hardly ever write reviews for things I purchase, but these earbuds disappointed me that much...
Bought these hoping to replace some old Sony earbuds (8+ years old) that have pretty good sound quality and are still running strong, but have a tendency to fall out my ears. I already own Skullcrushers (which I love), so I decided to give this Skullcandy product a shot...mistake.
The sound quality of these Chops makes them feel cheap. The only good points I can find about these things are the comfort and the hangers that go around your ears. Waste of $20.
Oh well, I guess I can use the rubber earbud covers on my Sony buds.

- I've purchased this product from a local store and I think it's pretty cool. I like the rechargable headset. The downside.. The transmitting unit runs on a 9V battery OR a A/C power supply (SOLD SEPARATELY). The Sentry company doesn't even give you a chance to order the A/C power supply or even give you a location where you can order one. It would have been nice if the headphone battery charger would double as the transmitter unit power source when not charging the headphones.
- I bought these headphones recently and am disappointed. The headphones themselves aren't adjustable. Would've been nice to know that. They are uncomfortable and don't fit properly. Also, while I was using it with my laptop, the sound kept switching between the headphones and my speakers. I double checked all my connections and they were good. I'm returning the product.
- Well, I put in the 9V battery on the transmitter and the door won't fit on correctly -- haven't tried a hammer!! First defect. I hooked it up to the TV in my bedroom according to the chart and do get sound -- but also a lot of noise which was bothersome and made them impossible to use. I wasted my money!

- To emphasize a couple of points made on other reviews. 1) These are fairly comfortable, passively block noise pretty well, and sound quite good. 2) they look and feel like inexpensive headphones, not bad, but no better than the $35 they cost. 3) I thought the detachable cable would have a standard 1/8" connector, but it is actually a phone jack connector on the headphone side, not very robust. 4) The impedance on the Koss website says 60 ohms, but on the actual package it says 112 ohms. 5) The wire from one side to the other is under the band, i.e. against your scalp, so if you are bald like me you have a soft, lightly padded band with a wire bump against the top of your head - its not terrible, just not ideal. Overall, these are acceptable given the price.
- I bought this exact model of headphone from Amazon on July 14, 2005. (At least that's the date Amazon says I bought it on.) They lasted me 3 years before they became unusable from wear-and-tear. And when I say wear-and-tear, I mean a 3-year beating.
I used it between my computer and my stereo system the whole time on a near daily basis of changing between the two. The plug withstood it all. I've yanked the cord (which is about 8-feet long), dropped the headset, tossed the headset while plugged in, crushed the headset under everything from books to a computer (long story on that one), and on more occasions than I can count, fallen asleep and rolled on top of them. They took all the punishment and kept going.
The worst damage that occured was that a piece of the plastic over the Logo oval and below the slider stop on the earpiece (you can see it in the picture) on the inside of the headband broke off after 2 years of me overstretching the headset, and that was easily resolved by replacing the plastic piece that broke off back in place and wrapping the area with some black electrical tape.
The sound quality is exceptional. You can hear the highs and lows of every note in a song and clearly understand every part of a conversation in a game or video. And once they are on your head, outside sounds are gone. Someone could crash their car into your house and you wouldn't hear it.
It finally broke after the wiring in the right earpiece couldn't take my abuse anymore, and even then I was able to get it to work on-and-off for a month after that before it finally said no more.
It survived all that and I only paid $25 for it. All in all this headphone is tank-like in the long run. I'm planning to buy two more. It's a great headset and worth every cent considering how long it lasts.
- I have had these headphones for about 7 years now. I have been very rough with them at times. They have been dropped, stepped on, and otherwise crushed. One side where you adjust the fit cracked years ago and is now held very securely together by about half a roll of electrical tape. The fabric which rests upon the user's head frayed, and I had to MacGyver scrap fabric (from an inferior, broken pair of headphones) over the affected area. The material around the cushion is disintegrating, as is the foam pad between the speakers and the user's ears.
Yet despite all this, I am proud to say that they still sound as good as the day I bought them. These things last forever - It never ceases to amaze me. Well done, Koss. Well done.
- Just got mine a few days ago and I must say that I am very impressed!!! The sound quality is phenomenal, they fit securely( but not too tight around the head), the ear pieces completly cover my ear and while not noise canceling they do block a lot of the outside noise. The sound is amazing!! The bass is nice and deep with no distortion noticed. My only concern is the plastic adjustable frame which the head phones are encased. From what I have read these have a tendency to crack or break. This would be a concern if the headphones were in the higher price range, but since they are under 20.00 if this does happen I can replace them ( or duct tape them) without too much cost. Excellent sound quality for a very reasonable price. Much better sound quality than my sony headphones which I paid twice as much for.
- DJ quality and they fit my big head. Ten stars would be more like it.

- Yeah, I like these headphones. You probably can't listen to all the secret weird stuff in pet sounds with it, but other than that it's really great and it fits on your head comfortably. It probably won't break for a while and they look kind of good. I mean, I've only had them for a few months, and I'm not a really stylish dude, so I can't say for sure.
I mean, they're not the best headphones in the world, they won't make you cry, but if you're buying headphones for 35 bucks on the internet, you will probably not do any better. And they're loud enough you could probably hurt your ears with them, which is always a plus.

5 comments about Headphones, Active Noise Reduction.
- Bought as present for world traveling brother. He loves them. Reduces noise on those long flights. He even uses them on the ground as sound quality is very good.
- Looking for a replacement for my Bose which fell apart after 2 years of use (outrageous for a product costing $300), I decided to purchase the Altec Lansing because they have a long-time reputation for quality products. This is not one of them.
Putting aside the loud noise-cancellation hiss that sounds like somebody blowing air across the top of a long plastic tube, and audio that sounds like it is piped through that same long plastic tube (make a circle with your hand, purse your lips and speak through your fist - that's what these headphones sound like!), but the true disaster is that the sound cuts out when you hit a bump. Ride in a car or bus on an Interstate or a jiggling train and the sound will skip and disappear. The effect is similar to what would happen in the early days of portable CD players when motion would cause the laser beam to lose its tracking, or in olden days bumping a turntable causing they stylus to bounce and skip.
If you don't listen to music, but just use the phones for noise-reduction, you will notice the low frequencies creeping back in momentarily as you hit a bump.
The portable "case" is a drawstring velvet-like bag which offers zero protection.
And I suppose worst of all (yep it gets worse) the unit came packaged in see-through heavy plastic that had to be cut/destroyed in order to get the product out of its packaging which means there is no hope of returning it.
If you need a less-expensive Bose alternative with better sound (yes!) then try the Panasonic - it costs 1/3 as much, requires half the power from your mp3 player and does have better sound!
Avoid this product entirely. I literally had to throw mine in the trash. Huge waste of money. And that hurts! When I upgrade my theater sound system, I will not be trusting Altec Lansing!
- Noise Cancelling is pretty descent... but when turned on there is a defnite buzz in the background that can be annoying. If the music is loud enough it will cancel it out... but you shouldn't have to worry about that in a quality pair of headphones.
They are fairly uncomfortable after any period of time.
The audio overall is perhaps slightly above your average pair of headphones... but certainly nothing for an audiophile... as the base isn't great at all, and at high volumes there are definite distortions ina ll ranges.
Bottom line, if you can find these for $30 or $40 it may be worth it for you and if you aren't too picky... but if you want a real noise cancelling experience, i would look elsewhere.
- I have friends with the Bose versions and these sound almost as good at less than half the price. My only complaint is that they are ackward if you pull them off for a moment and try to put them on your neck. For example, when you are boarding the plane or when you have to talk to the flight attendant for a minute. The battery life on the noise cancellation is EXCELLENT! One AAA battery has lasted for over 24 hours so far. I only wear them when I am flying.
- I purchased these last year, and on my first use on a 6 hr airplane flt. the headphone broke. The headband started digging into the side of head above my ears after a while. I took the headphones off leaving them on my seat and when I returned sat on them and one of the ear phones broke off instantly. They were bulky fitting into the loose cloth bag they come with. Not impressed at all with the design, but the noise cancelling feature was nice when I clicked it on.

2 comments about Audio Technica ATH-W5000 Dynamic Headphones.
- I bought these headphones and I cannot belive what i'm hearing so crisp and natural sound, my friend heared it and said wow! Audio Technica rules!!!! i use them with my xtreme music card of CREATIVE and my PRO-JECT Head Box amplifier on Windows Media Center on Windows Vista the best program of audio and with my mp3 collection of 320kbps and 192 only! and wav files is the best! but i still think that a perfect amp such grace m902 sounds more than perfect its also depends on the equipment that you will use after all.
- Like all headphones, this one too has a distinct sound, ie. it is not neutral. I find the W5000 to be the right balance between warm and neutral. The soundstage is very large, and all the details are present. I find that when listening to vocals, especially female vocals, or listening to a concerto, the solo instrument/vocals tend to stand out, making it harder to hear the details. It sounds very natural, but is a matter of preference. Additionally, the bass is not as pronounced as on other headphones--it is there, and very tight, but not overwhelming. I like it better than the Denon D2000, which is too cold and analytical. Compared to other ATH offerings such as the A900 and the ES7, it has a much wider soundstage, but the flavor of sound is pretty much the same. Basically, you are just getting more of the benefits of those headphones--more details, more soundstage, etc. I have used this with an Onkyo receiver hooked up to a Sony DVD player, and it sounds very good. It also works well with my Cowon D2, and also very well with my Sansa Clip, believe it or not. Basically, it has very low impedance, so I can listen to it at a fairly loud volume with my Clip volume set at 3/4 of max. Overall, a great headphone that gives you great enjoyment, even if you don't spend the extra thousand to buy an amplifier and DAC.

2 comments about Harman Kardon 710 Noise Isolating Earphones (Black).
- I have had the earphones about a month now; they're very good. I like the fittings for the inner ear; very well designed, and very good at reducing/near totally eliminating outside sound. The only thing that keeps me from rating excellent/outstanding is the very reason these earphones are the price they are (affordable) -- the high-end frequencies fall a little short. The bass response is actually pretty good.
All-in-all, having had them a month, I really would buy them again as opposed to buying another product; they're really good.
- I found a great deal on these and decided to pick up a pair ($34 at Frys). That is the end of the positive. First, forget using the silicone earpieces they are simply too narrow and/or long to provide a good seal(maybe it is just my ears) which is critical to getting any sound out these that doesn't sound like a 60s era hand held transistor radio--I had battery operated portable b/w tvs in the 80s that sounded better. Completely unlistenable. Replacing the silicone with the foam pads did inprove the sound a considerable amount but it also then revealed the fatal short fallings of the headphones. I have very sensitive aural perception and what I expect from audio is as flat a response as possible so as not to colour the detail of the music as produced with electronic tweaking and distortions. Having said that, the bass response of these phones is completely inadequate(using bass boost on my cd player only caused grotesque distortion even at moderate levels, the treble is not too bad and seems clean and somewhat accurate but suffers some roll off at the top (HK lists the frez response up to 16khz so...), the mid range seems to be fairly well reproduced and has an airy vocal feel about it. This brings us to the most fatal flaw(s): both the mid bass and mid treble regions are boosted to a incredible degree. Slight roll off in the upper and lower regions are common and almost acceptable in many situations but to boost the mid treble and mid bass to such extremes is truly bizarre and almost incomprehensible and certainly a deal breaker. These phones might be usable for recorded books etc but don't even come close to an acceptable standard for music. Your phones that came with your cd player mp3 player etc are far better which isn't saying much. Even at the 35 bucks I paid I can't return these things fast enough to rid myself of them. You should buy anything else. I have a hard time believing that HK would actually put their name on something like this. But then again HK isn't what it used to be since merging with JVC Infinity. BTW if you don't require a in-the-ear headphone and are looking for something for portable use and highly accurate given the price try Koss KSC55 which I believe is now KSC75.
