5 comments about TDK MP100 Monitor DJ Stereo Headphone.
- I bought the MP100 (AUD$24) because they were cheap, because I have faith in TDK as a brand and they looked pretty decent. I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD320's (supra-aural design), and used these for reference.
The MP100's are a closed back design, DJ style without all the fancy features of your standard DJ fare (HD25, etc). They're a simple pair of cans and I was hoping to use them as a secondary pair at work - purely for music, not games or watching DVDs. I am not an audiophile, nor a sound engineer, although I have studied audio engineering for a year or so. I'm a musician as well as a music lover and would like to think I have discerning ears! The HD320's are a pair of headphones I have had for some years now, and I've grown accustomed to their light weight, comfort and very natural sound. They were great value when I bought them at AUD$120. I can listen to them all day without fatigue and because they sit on gently on my ears as opposed to gripping tightly, they are very comfortable. The flipside is that they fall off rather easily! The Sennheiser design seems to be of a generally higher standard than the TDK - quality plastics, cord, connector, 1/4" adaptor, etc. You would expect this at 5 times the price. The TDK's are firmer on the head, with a nice cushion underneath the headband. They grip quite firmly without being too tight, although if you have large ears you might find that your ears don't fit perfectly. Sonically, how do they compare? Well the Sennheiser's are definitely the winner and that's what I expected. BUT, the TDK are far from being .... The TDK's are more trebly and tend to have a slightly more EQ'd nasal and brittle sound. I don't listen to these at high volume for hours because they are fatiguing. The mid range on the Sennheiser's is far more natural and vocals sound more forward and defined. The Sennheiser's also have a warmer and solid bottom end, whereas the TDK appears a bit thinner. My audio source is just my PC, running through a Creative Sound Blaster - no fancy stereo components here. It's a good test I guess because many people out there buying the TDK's would be on a tight budget. Here's the verdict - the TDK's are decent. They will be fine for casual/general listening - look good and sound alright to boot. They won't please an audiophile or a serious muso/engineer, yet you wouldn't expect them to at this price. They are definitely better sounding than some Sony's I have used at double the price and FAR more comfortable too. Well done TDK, I look forward to more of your products in the future!
- I purchased these headphones with no real expectations in regards to their sound or indeed any other aspect of their performance, whether it be comfort or otherwise.
However, I was happily surprised. I use them mainly for listening to my MD and gaming, and have found them to be very detailed in their sound reproduction. Of course, its nothing like what a 400$AU pair of Seinheissers or Sonys get you, but in the price/performance ratio, TDK has really outdone themselves.
When compared to my other pair of KOSS headphones that retail for roughly the same price, the TDKs are more comfortable, and reproduce sound with a more natural sound. I think that TDK really deserves a pat on the back for their effort with the MP100 and thats a compliment I rarely give.
And lets not forget...At around $AU25, these headphones are really the best low-end ones I've seen to date...
Well Done!
- I didn't have very high expectations for these headphones. I had bought some really really good ones several months previously but they were stolen, so I was looking for a cheap yet nice replacement for earbuds. Upon receiving I was head over heels about them. The sound quality is great and they're very comfortable. My only complaints are that the cord itself is made of a stiff plastic that holds form for a long time, such as the zig-zag shape after unraveling it from the case. I would much prefer a more rubber like plastic that was free-flowing. Also, the inside of the ear-pieces occasionally the part that emits the sound 'cracks', making a snapping noise and occasionally giving kind of a static shock to your ears. This may only be my product and the way I use them (constant outdoor walking), but overall they're great!!
- I've tried many headphones, and these are not the most expensive ones out there. I thought I had to pay tons of money to get great sound. Totally not true. These are great. The bass is real good and they protect your ears. Hey, they even double as earmuffs when it's cold or windy. Love em!
- To add to the previous reviews, I can wear these headphones for hours on end without any discomfort. The sound reproduction, though not at par with $400 headphones, is pretty damn good. You get a lot of value for the $ your spend.

1 comments about Over-ear Headphone Wireless Bluetooth for Ipod Black Color.
- So I do rope burn at the gym and these are perfect for the activity. The bluetooth allows me to skip to my heart's content without having cables tangled with my rope. I usually leave my iPod on the floor somewhere near by.
Sound quality wise, it is ok. The bass can be a tad stronger I find. Noise cancellation, it is ok, but maybe the gym I go to tend to blast music, so it does not really block out sounds from the environment.
What makes these headphones spectacular is the bluetooth. The range is pretty good in fact. I left my iPod in at the gym locker once, and it wasn't until I was about half way down the stairs that I realised I left my iPod upstairs. the distance was more than 30 feet I would say.
So, this is a pretty decent bluetooth headphones for what it does. Wireless. It is not design for an audiophile.

5 comments about Altec Lansing AHP-712 Headphones.
- Out of the box, the AHP-712's noise cancelation feature didn't work. No sound at all. Well, maybe that means it totally worked (ha!). Anyway, with cancelation switch off, they did sound pretty good. Awaiting replacement and better results.
Update 12 April 2006: Received replacement headphones. They are working as expected in noise cancel mode.
- I purchaced the headphones a couple of weeks ago looking for a good sounding pair of headphones with a decent noise canceling feature.
I was very happy with the sound of the headphones without the active noise canceling feature turned on. I loved the phones ability to produce low level frequencys, somthing I look for when I purchace headphones. The low level didnt get mudded out by a high midrange song or sound. I currently use these headphones for gameing.
I am currently sitting In a room with them on, there is a pump running behind me pumping water out of my flooded room. The pump is very loud and annoying, there is also a dehumidifier running just to my left. With the active noise canceling on I cant hear the dehumidifier whatsoever even during silent periods between songs ect. I can barely hear the pump running and without these phones I would be driven up a wall and back. This said however....
When I turn on the noise canceling feature I have to completely adjust the equalizer on my X-FI so the sound still remains correct, it really takes the high end out and fills up the midrange so it sounds like my dads car stereo.
I love the phones for the price but having to change my equalizer to compensate for the noise cancelation is a hassle, 4 stars.
- Just broke my headphones in on a long business trip.
No, they don't shut out 100% of the background noise (duh), they aren't the most dynamically responsive headphones on the market (double-duh), and they aren't so comfortable that you don't know they are there.
They *are* a good pair of headphones and do noticeably reduce the low frequency background noise typically found in a jet cabin environment, all for a very affordable price.
Battery life was good - maybe 20 hours worth.
They don't fold into a terribly compact arrangement - essentially the cups swivel 90 degrees so the unit is more flat. I don't think that's unreasonable, but some may think that's it's still too bulky.
Good ear and headband padding. All-in-all, I think I got my money's worth.
- I don't know what headphones you people are talking about, but I got the Altec lansing AHP-712 ones and both of the earphones fell off within 15 minutes of having them out of the package.
They are taped in with 4 small bits of cheap double sided tape. This is an outward sign of poor crafstmanship that is an indication of what is inside as well. Sure it comes with some trinkets, but the audio isn't that great. I haven't tried it with a battery in though so I don't know what they sound like with that. I have a huge head and they do fit!
- The ear pads both came off within a few weeks--it looks like they were glued into place with a few dabs from a glue stick. I replaced them with additional glue, which has met with limited success. The shoddy ear pads, coupled with the poor noise-reduction quality (it hisses--how is hissing better than ambient noise?), was absolutely no match for the final straw: the left ear piece broke off. That's not glue-able and nobody is interested in refunding me the money. Do not buy this product! Get a Bose or Sennheiser--those guys are serious about their noise-reduction headphones. They may be pricier but they're definitely worth it.

1 comments about JVC HAE170S Ear Clip Headphones with Retractable Cord (Silver).
- I am the type that researches 100 things before buying something. It even takes me 5 minutes to buy toothpaste.
So I finally settled on this JVC and I was excited.
When I got it, it was great. Perfect size (I was worried that the retractable part was going to make it too big) and it worked for the entire day... and then when I went to retract it... it didn't retract. Like a yoyo that is too far extended, it never came back. I tried like 40 times. SO I haven't decided if I will return it for another one or try the Sony (which was sold out at the time)
