  1. I have very sensitive hearing and with these I can hear both the live music and conversations with my friends (without coming out of the show deaf). For the price this is a complete no-brainer purchase for anyone who likes live music.

  2. These are much better than foam earplugs. everything's clear. First thing I did when I got them was test them out in a movie theater. Watched the whole movie with no problems. There is quite a bit of in-head noise, like breathing and chewing, but it is great for when I'm singing because I can hear myself clearly over the rest of the band.

  1. I don't care how they sound. Without a remote button they are useless for the iphone.

  2. The sound quality is good. However, without a remote button for use with the iPhone, these are useless earbuds. The earbuds are also rather heavy, and the cables are far to think and contribute quite a bit to the weight on the ear.

  3. These are fantastic with the iPhone and give you the kind of sound quality you would expect from Shure. The mic works perfectly and the cables are thick and strong which is good for preventing cable interference noises that come from earphones with thin cables (had this problem with Etymotics in the past.) The sound is rich and full and good for most music though it could benefit from slightly more detail in the mids when listening to classical music. My wife and I both have these and couldn't be happier. We don't think that they need any sort of remote control since the phone is right at the end of the cable and I want to see who is calling first anyway. We got these here on Amazon for $57. Great product at twice that price. Considering the Ety's are $178 here and the sound is equal (though slightly different in bias) it would be hard for me to buy anything other than these for our iPhones.

  4. After having my iPhone earphones die I began looking for a quality replacement. Ideally I wanted a pair of Shure in ear monitors, but they do not have a mic. So, I decided to give these a try because the other reviews were negative about thing that do not really matter (ie. the cord is long ad no answer button). I was not disappointed. They sounds great, the mic works well (although it does not like Muni's light rail cars) and they are less than $60. The only way I would recommend something else is if Shure releases a pair based on their Pro Audio in ear monitors.

  5. The in-ear headphones have a good sound quality, and durability. I have had no complaints about the quality of the microphone. My only real complaint is the weight. The are slightly heavier that most in the is category. The main wire from the joint to the plug is a heavier gauge than I would like, making the headphones a little easier to fall out of the ears. If you loop the wires around your ears, it helps alleviate this problem. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase.

  1. I have purchased two other sets of Sennheiser headphones for home use from Amazon (check out my other reviews), and the PMX-60 headphones are just as good. They are ultra-lightweight, sound superb, and are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I walk for 60-75 minutes every day, and wear these headphones during the entire trip without discomfort. While you can hear sounds around you, such as lawnmowers and passing cars, the PMX-60's aren't easily overwhelmed by external noise, nor are they overly loud for someone walking next to you, unless you have your iPod volume at a very high level. I can't say enough about how much I like Sennheiser products, including this relatviely inexpensive set of headphones. One drawback - I wish the neck strap was adjustable. It fits me pretty well, but could fit a bit more snuggly. Planning to buy another set for my wife soon. 9/17/08 update: Just ordered a second pair. GREAT PRODUCT!

  2. After many of the better, but cheaper, headphones have come and gone I doubled my budget and bought this PMX60 model. They are much superior to cheapies, even sounding comparable to far more expensive Bose! The fit is very good with a light touch, but secure and good ear coverage. They do not block out outside sounds. The sound is louder than with the same setting on other headphones, but there is distortion when cranked up to very loud. (This could be from overdriving the tiny amp in my mp3 player. )The only downside is they feel a bit hot and may become too sweaty for wear during exercise.

  3. These ear phones have no adjustment options, so unless your head is quite large, these will be uncomfortably loose fitting and distracting should you move your head.

  4. Unfortunately these headphones were just not what I was hoping for. They seem to not fit right on my ears and allow a great deal of ambient noise in which in turn causes me to have to turn up my music to compensate for it. The sound quality is just OK. I will probably end up giving this set to my kids and finding another set for work.

  5. I may be speaking on something that was fixed or maybe I got a "old" pair, but the frame near the earpad has cracked in half on me. It is made of plastic, hard plastic, which caused it to break. I even super glued it back together because the headphones themselves are stellar. They came back apart after my older brother SAT on them while they were on my chair. So I glued them back together again and they stayed up for about 2 more weeks...

I am not the most gentle, but I do care of my headphones (besides my brother sitting on them, lol). I run a music blog and listen to over 50 new songs a day, though, so I did use them everyday. They are FAIRLY comfortable, but you can feel it when you take them off. I've had countless headphones over the years, and these were great. But the build was not up to par, but like I said before, maybe I got an old pair. I just know I won't be ordering this pair anymore. Make sure you pay attention to this area, as it starts to turn white before it is going to crack. I didn't think it was possible, though. Even my old 20 dollar sony street styles (which I am going back to) lasted years and never suffered such a defect.

I would not recommend this product for any active activity, as I have never done anything active in them and they still broke on me.

  1. So I have been using a standard ipod headphones since i've purchased my ipod touch in november and those are about par if not a bit less for what I expect for a $15 pair of headphones
long story short - they broke (the rubber came off around them and they just fell to crap)

So I priced a few headphones
    -apple standard buds $29? walmart
    -bose in earbuds $90 amazon
    -philips standard headphones $15

So I purchased the $15 headphones from phillips and the sound quality i found to be better than apples, but i couldn't block ANY sound when i would mow the lawn or do anything with sound so i returned them.
    I purchased the bose buds
I expected rediculous sound being that i paid 1/3 the cost of my ipod touch just to have these headphones.

    FINALLY-
The quality i found to be fuller and much more realistic than any other ear buds i've used. I have only had them a day but i have heard quite a few verses in songs that I had no idea what they were saying with my other buds and with these i could clearly hear what they were saying.
    the sound is deffinitly crisper.
But for the price these headphones just don't - BLOW my mind like many think they should for what they are charging for them.

(another pair of headphones i found to be similar to these are the stock ear buds that come with the samsung yp-k5, yet the quality and comfort come no where near the bose the sound quality is a bit closer than all others mention prior)

  2. These ear buds are as good as any other Bose product.
How they improve the clearity of the music is truly amazing !

  3. *****WARNING**** If you purchase this product (Bose Tri Port) make sure you purchase this product from a KNOWN SOURCE because if not, you will be buying a Knock Off (Fake) version of this product. Also ***WARNING*** If you buy any headphone set for 49.99 or 45.99 or even 63.99 (and there worth $250 or $150) They will be FAKE!!! like the Bang & Olufsen for 49.99 ***WARNING*** ANY Headphone/Earphone set that is %80 Less than the Original price New, Refurbished or Open Box, they will be fake UNLESS there backed by a Real Manufacturer Warranty or Of course %100 money back guarantee! **** WARNING**** DONT BE FOOLED There are some FAKE BOSE TRI PORTS out there GOOD LUCK!

  4. Pros: Bass response, Fit & Comfort
Cons: High and Mid Range Response.

They have descent bass and a comfortable fit. The sound if full and wide. But the highs & mids are fairly flat & kind of muddy sounding? You have various size silicone earpieces to help you get the best fit. These do not go inside your ear canal the silicone tips just rest on the rim of the canal. So if you don't want that ear plug feeling of a pure sound isolation set of phones these are pretty comfortable. So with that they are a noise reducing option phone not a isolation one. They do reduce outside noise allot more than the standard earbuds though. If you are very active (ie: you want to use these for running or jogging) they maynot offer you a secure enough fit. For me they're fine. They sound better than the standard buds but with less highs & mids (a little muffled). I think I'm going to have to spend more $$$ to get something GOOD! :(

  5. I purchased these a few weeks ago and they arrived rather late. I tried them with my 8gb Sandisk Sansa and they sound alright. It's alot less bass than what i expected, but the overall quality is good enough. I use these while running on the treadmill with a clip on my shirt so that the wires wouldn't be tugging down after every step. The ear pieces fit great, i don't see how people judge them so negatively. Everyone is different, so everyone will differ when it comes with ear shape.

  1. A very nice flat bass. But that is the kind of bass I prefer. I bought them so that I can listen to my ipod when I work in the shop. We have a noisy vacuum system and great isolation is important. Haven't actually got to rate that part yet because I haven't worked in the shop lately. Great sound though. I can hear musical details that I had no idea were even there! Comfortable too. I'd give it 5 stars, but I think that there may be a product out there that is even nicer. But for the price, this is damn hard to beat.

  2. I was looking for some really good headphones and so I bought these. When I first used them they were really good they keep out the noise. The sound is really good they have been better than other headphones I have used.

  3. Holy**** these things sound fan-****ing-tastic! Wow, wow, and more wow. I don't even know what to say. Anyone who decides to get these will soon realize they just made a very wise decision.

Keep in mind they are pretty big, and you'll need a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo adapter if you want to use them with computers and Mp3 players, but those "drawbacks" are easily overlooked because they are AMAZING. They are also extremely comfortable -- actually that's an understatement -- you can hardly even feel them on your head, and what is there feels like a pillow. I am going to immensely enjoy listening to every thing on my computer with these babies, I might even try out some .flac files now.

  4. This review is for:
    Audio Technica ATHM40FS Precision StudioPhones

First of all right out of the package they look expensive. They do not look cheaply made and the matte black coloring and shape of these headphones is pleasing to the eye.

    From the top down:

The headband is approximately two inches wide and covered even on the top with some type of soft to the touch material. The underside of the headband is very well padded and the padding extends almost down to the hinge where the earpieces are connected to the headpiece. The padding is nice and squishy, but not so much that you can feel the hardness underneath. The thickness of the padding is approximately 3/4 of an inch thick.

These earphones are very light, I've been wearing them all day with no neck fatigue, or headache from too much pressure around the ears.

The tension of the headband is enough to hold the earphones on my head, but they rest comfortably without pressure around my ears.

The hinges where the earpieces meet the body are made from some type of heavy duty, hard plastic(I don't know the technical name for it). The hinges are nice and thick. They look well made and able to take a lot of use.

    The earpieces:

The shape is sort of an elongated oval. They are lined all the way around by padding that is approximately 3/4 of an inch thick, and one inch wide, and they're covered by the same velvety soft material as the headband padding. This padding feels wonderful against the skin. The padding that touches the skin is flattened to fit against the head better, giving these headphones excellent sound squelching qualities.

The inside of each earpiece is oval in shape and the inside depth is between 1/2 and inch and 3/4 of an inch. The inside wells that hold the speakers are covered with some type of soft fabric as well.
The holes under the fabric where the speakers are located are shifted slightly toward the back side of the ear pieces.

The outside housing is a some type of matte black high density plastic, and the R and L on each one is molded into the plastic rather than being painted on so that it won't rub off eventually.

    The hinges:
Move smoothly and easily. There are two sets of them. One allows the earpieces to be rotated out when they're being worn, so outside noises or conversation can be heard without taking them completely off. They're made of matte black high density plastic also. They're nice and thick, and the part that attaches the earpieces to the headband meets the headband smoothly. If you didn't know the seam was there, you'd probably miss it. Each earpiece can be rotated out to the front approximately 180 degrees, and to the back considerably less.

The other set of hinges are the same color and material, and they fit sleekly against the earpieces in their own grooves, giving the earpieces a smooth appearance when on the head. There is nothing sticking out, and it's very aesthetic. When they're on the head the hinges and earpieces look like they're all one piece. I don't know who designed them, but whoever it is they're smart, LOL.

    The Cord:

Runs from the left earpiece, and is not reinforced at the point it meets the earpiece. The cord is very long and has a nice thickness to it. It's not flimsy at all. If you don't need the length, I suggest tying it up with a zip it, or something similar, to keep it out of the way. I like the length personally. If you're like me and you forget you're wearing these headphones and get out of your chair to get something it doesn't pull everything off the shelf:D

The cord terminates in a 1/4 stereo plug, and is reinforced at the back end of the plug with a flexible metal spring that's approximately an inch long. The plug itself is textured for easy gripping.

If you're going to use these headphones for your: computer, tv, portable CD player or whatever. You're going to need to buy a 3.5 mm adapter because these headphones don't come with one in the box, like some of the other Audio Tecnica headphones.

But it's easy to find an adpater, and not much hassle. You can buy adapter kits. There is an adapter kit with four different sizes of adapters, right here on Amazon for 5.00 or so. Sound and audio stores should have them as well as electronics stores, I think even Wally World has them. Radio Shack has a kit that's a little different from the one here on Amazon, but it still has four different sized adapters. Just make sure you get a stereo to stereo adapter, not stereo to mono adapter.

    Isolation:

These really do a good job. When I'm listening to music I don't hear anything else unless the sound is extremely loud.

    The sound:

The sound of music through these is excellent. I can hear everything the way it was meant to be heard. Nothing added or taken away. But listening pleasure is subjective. I really enjoy the music I hear through these headphones just playing MP3s on my computer without a fancy sound card on my computer. DVD movies sound very good also. The soundtracks sound great.

The longer I listen the better music sounds through these headphones.

The highs aren't sharp and grating, and the mid range is there, the lows are smooth and present. Nothing is muddy sounding to me. All the sounds are separated and discernible but not so sharply delineated that it picks the music to pieces with one drowning out the other. Everything is nicely balanced and flows together like music should. It sounds like I'm hearing a live performance. The bass is there, but it is NOT very pronounced and isn't the focus.

I don't hear any distortion at a higher volume, but then again I can't stand very loud music, it hurts my ears. You don't have to turn these all the way up to hear decently. I'm listening to Illumination by Hemi- Sync right now and I've got my system volume turned up to 3/4 and Winamp volume is at 9%, and that's quite enough to enjoy the music. I can still hear everything very well with no interference from outside noise.

The music accompanies the singer rather than drowning them out. If you enjoy the lyrics, like me, as much as the music, then these headphones are fantastic. The lyrics are very easy to understand, and the voice of the singer is perfectly presented.

Meatloaf "Life is a Lemon" sounds heavenly through these, and so does Garth Brooks "Friends in Low Places". Pink Floyd sounds divine, and so does John Denver. Mozart sounds great too. PussyCat Dolls "Don'tcha" sounds just as good to me. Rammstein - Blade Theme (Techno Remix) sounds as good as all the rest. Roberta Flack is as close to blues as I've gotten yet, and she sounds amazing. Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" Sounds good too. I haven't listened to anything jazzier. Pantera sounds good, and so do the Heavy Metal soundtracks( 1 and 2). I hope that gives you some idea about the range of music that sounds great with these headphones. Meditation music sounds great also.

    Summation:

These are excellent quality headphones for the price. Someone put a lot of thought and effort into designing these. I always look at the details, and if someone paid attention to those I know they care about their product.

These headphones are light and comfortable on the head, and about the ears. They can be worn comfortably for extended periods of time without causing a headache. I believe they provide enough isolation, and outside sound dampening, to satisfy most music afficianados.

If you're looking for very pronounced bass, don't buy these unless you want to adjust the the bass to your satisfaction on your music source.

All in all I'm very pleased with these headphones, and I would buy them again. The price and the quality make this set of headphones an excellent buy.

On a sidenote: The customer service people are very nice. I emailed the customer service department for the amplitude range on another set I was eyeballing which are also made by audio Technica. The frequency response of headphones means nothing if the amplitude is way out of whack. It took about a week for them to answer but he very nice fellow who answered sent me JPGs of the amplitude graphs for the set I asked about, and another set. I'm sure he probably had to hunt the graphs down and then make a file to attach it to the email he sent me. Now that is customer service! Kudos to Audio Technica for their customer service. And that was before the sale!

The two sets were: Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones With Double Air Damping and Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Open-air Dynamic Headphones.

If you're interested the amplitude range on the ATH-AD700 was much more flat than the ATH-A700, with less variation overall.

Alrighty then, that's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm enjoying my music on these very same headphones while I'm typing away.

  5. I have owned and used these headphones for almost a year and can honestly recommend them; in fact I just did last week. I have two minor features I wish were included:

    - A volume control on the headset or wire, at least a mute button for when you switch from speakers to headset and accidentally blast your head apart
    - The ability to fold them up smaller for travel

I work in a data center occasionally (if you don't know what that is, think about a giant room with literally 10,000+ computers all whirring their noisy fans), and although these headphones tout no noise-canceling technology I've had no problem listening to everything from Bach to Cannibal Corpse on them. I also travel for work sometimes, and these things double as decent earplugs when you forget yours, and music is easy to listen to while sitting over the wings (read: engines). If you travel a lot I'd say hold out for a pair that folds up, as these are kind of a pain to deal with, but otherwise go for it. They sound nice, are super light, and the price is really reasonable.

  1. I bought these with pretty much no research, which doesnt normally happen with me, tried them out, and they fit wonderfully, very comfortable. Unfortunately, even though the highs were great and very clear, there was absolutely no bass. There was the impression of bass, the "hit" in the midrange when a beat thumps, but no bass along with the hit.

These are a huge letdown, and since I no longer have the packaging, I can't return them and get my $50 back. My advice: Don't buy. A big let down.

  2. I've always liked in-ear earbuds. Unfortunately many of them would eventually fall out of my ears. These are the rare exception. They fit well and block out a significant amount of external noise.

The sound quality is good for the price and that they're earbuds; great highs and good lows. After long periods of listening they occasionally become uncomfortable, but simply remove and replace them in your ears and the problem is alleviated.

My only con with these is not the earbuds, but the carrying case. Prior to these, I had a pair of those $10 Sony Earbuds with the circular wind-up case and that was great. These have a piece of plastic you wrap the buds around, and put into another case.

Bottom Line: Good sound quality for price, good fit.

  3. The headphones that came with my 4GB NWZ-A816BLK quit working due to human error (never pull on the cord). I contacted Sony at the time and they did not offer the same headphones (MDR-EX082)for sale, so I bought a pair of cheaper Sony headphones. As soon as the new MDR-EX85LP set came out, I immediately bought them. The music is balanced and the base is just right for my old ears (I'm 39). I didn't realize how great this line of Sony earphones were until I put them in my ears.

  4. These are good looking earphones, well constructed and, phisically, well disigned. they come with a very nice carrying case that protects them well. About the sound they provide a good experience but a little weak with the low frecuencies. They are a good but not great, the MDR Ex71LP that I used to have sounded way better

  5. Got these earbuds for about $42. They really sound great, I've had a a pair of the sony MDREX71's for many years that work good as well. These seam to fit and sound just a bit better. Can't beat them for the price.

  1. After using iPod headphones, which hurt my ears when I slept in them, and which fell out of my ears at inopportune times, the Bose headphones are wonderful. They are light, comfortable and block out unwanted noise, especially when I am trying to sleep in a room with dogs, cats, and a snoring husband! The sound is fabulous! I think they were well worth the price I paid for them. Highly recommended. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat.

  2. I have owned two of these headphones (got one as a present) and they both broke on me. They also broke at the same place, the plastic that keeps the ear cup attached just snaps in half. I take GREAT care of my expensive stuff and still had both of them fall apart on me.

Stay away. They sound good but the build quality needs a lot of improvement.

  3. These are great headphone! Amazing sound, and very comfortable. I think they are definitely worth the price. I would be careful, my first pair broke once but Bose replaced them.

  4. The parts holding the speakers to the head band are plastic and come apart after very little normal use rendering them unusable. One can extend the life of the unit with super glue but that doesn't hold for long. I do not understand how Bose can get away with selling junk for any amount of money much less the 139 dollars charged here. I have no explanation for the positive reviews you read here.

  5. In review after review for years (professional reviews, that is, not user reviews like these), regardless of the type of equipment, Bose shows up as competent, at times among the better finishers, but rarely at the top. I believe they are more expensive than they should be for what they deliver. Where Bose does best with headphones are the models with active noise cancelling circuitry. (These aren't noise cancelling.)

This particular pair is a case in point. They are priced well above the headphones against which they compete - and deliver less in both build quality and sound fidelity. Take a look at the headband alone, never mind the earcups and wiring. On the sound side, Bose takes an approach that boosts certain parts of the spectrum, typically the highs, and they aren't known for their bass extension. Material recorded in lossy media like MP3 can sound better with a response profile like this, but the same characteristics destroy nuances when used on high-fidelity equipment.

I regard porting the ear cups, as Bose does with these, as a marketing gimmick. Tuned ports are used in speakers (i.e., bookshelf and full-size speakers) for a variety of reasons, but the cone movement of a headphone speaker does not require it. Bose ports and channels all kinds of things, though (think of their Waveguide radios) and this appears to be part of the marketing plan.

You can buy into better, medium-range headphones from both Sony and Sennheiser that are better in every way and are common in recording studios where fidelity has to be accurate. The most common headphone of this type and in this price range ballpark found in studios is probably the the middle of the Sony MDR line(MDR-V6, MDR-7506, MDR-V600, etc.) - better headphones that cost less.

  1. earphones did not work, I called and they immediately sent me an RMA and shipped replacement earphones, which work fine.

  2. Since this product uses rf to transmit, the connection is lost constantly around areas where electronic devices are used. Product claimed a range of 100 feet. I have not been able to go beyond 15 feet. The product does allow me to move around my personal office quite well which was my main reason for purchasing it, But I am unable to walk into another room with it. Also, when it loses its signal it creates a very annoying static sound in my ears. I gave this product 2 stars because it mostly does what I need, but it doesn't live up to its claims.

  3. Sylvania SYL-WH930GB Wireless Headphones (Black)Bought these so I could watch movies at night when my wife's sleeping. They work great with no excuse for low price. I have not lost reception during fridge raiding or pit stops. I'm buying two more sets for when the grandkids are over and we're watching movies. Sound quality is as good as my 42" Sanyo HD.

  4. It's not very solid mechanically, and it makes noise when the signal fades. If you go away or if you move your head too much the noise can be loud and annoying. Other than that it works fine, may be used as wired headphone. I have seen other products like this for half the price in department stores. For those the ratio cost/benefits should be better.

  1. I needed to replace some old headphones and I have always had a problem with the size of many of them (ie too big for my small ear canal). So after reading the reviews I decided to buy these, particularly as the main time I listen to my MP3 is whilst running etc.

I think the sound is fine, but the plugs themselves are not totally comfortable, a little awkward, also a bit awkward to put on and I feel awkward wearing them, because they are just a bit too obvious and a bit geeky. So I've decided I need to buy some other ones, so really I'd give them 2 1/2 stars because of that, but I didn't seem to have the option of using a half star on the amazon page.

  2. These headphones are comfortable until you start jumping around. The clip part is far bigger than my ear, so the headphones bounce around and fall off when I run. I ended up buy sony headphones that go over your head and like them much better.

  3. CANT BEAT THE PRICE OR PERFORMANCE, STAYS IN THE EAR AND NEVER FALLS OUT. HOWEVER AFTER INTENSE RUNNING OR SWEATING THE DO NOT FIT SNUG AND YOU LOOSE BASS, OTHERWISE SOUND AND PERFORMANCE IS GREAT

  4. i don't really like ear buds so this solution is really good. the one downside is that they don't sit deep in your ear. if you hold them while in your ear the sound is much better. try bending the ear clips to get a close fit and the sound is good. for the money spent these are very good ear bud replacements

  5. These are headphones fit nicely on my ear and the reason I got them is because the headphones that plug inside of your ear falls out when I do jogging. So these are prefect for exercise since it stays on. The audio is decent. So overall the price is well worth it.

  1. The Plantronics 625 are pretty impressive headphones. My intent was to get a set of headphones that could do double duty for my laptop. I wanted ones that primarily provided great Skype/chat capabilities and can provide great sound for listening to music. These headphones definitely fit the bill. I also love it's ability to plug into either standard headphone and mike jacks or use USB. My only complaint is that the music can be heard by the folks next to you.

  2. Excellent audio quality, the audio with skype is incredible, but there were no instructions included and the mute switch works counter-intuitively. A little explanation on how to plug it and work the controls would have been nice. The icons are so small you need a big magnifying glass to see them

  3. Great product , clear conversation and easy to use and light on head.
    No problems so far

  4. I have an at home job and am on the phone via my computer all day. I have used headsets in the past that by the end of the day, I have a headache or my ears are sore. I have never had one day with this headset that I don't end they day feeling as good as I started. No sore spots, no headaches, just extreme comfort. If I had to find something to complain about, I would have to say that every so often my customers will sometimes say I am cutting in and out. However, I do not know if this is the headset or the program I am using. It doesn't happen often enough for me to be concerned with it though. Maybe once a month or so. I highly recommend this headset. I even use it sometimes when playing games online while others are trying to watch tv. Great buy!!!

  5. This is a very good choice for a headset. The audio and mic quality are excellent, the price is right, and it's much more comfortable than it looks.
