5 comments about ETYMOTIC RESEARCH ER20BP High Fidelity Ear Plugs ( Clear ).
- If you want to protect your hearing and listen to music without and harmonic difference, use these plugs. The only bad point is when the plug is attached to the string and the string moves, you will here the string movement because the plug is attached to the bone inside the ear.
- When I first tried these on, they didn't go far enough into my ear to "seal". I then cut the smallest bud off the plug, and the result looked very natural, almost like these devices were meant to be trimmed to size. The resulting fit was snug and very much like any other isolator ear phone. I haven't worn these to a concert yet, but they come with a very nice carrying case and I'm going to order several more so I have them handy at the next event...
- I play guitar and sing in a rock/blues band. I was told I'm starting to have some hearing loss, so I tried these and have also tried foam plugs. I couldn't tell the difference between these and foam plugs. Everything is too muffled with either set. I'm looking at more expensive plugs.
- These are the most comfortable, most sound-dampening plugs I've used. I play drums and these do a great job bringing the sound to a comfortable and safe level. I can still hear well enough to play, but protect my ears at the same time. They're small and, therefore, easy to lose. I keep the little carrying case attached to another piece of drum gear so they're always with me.
- I am a drummer for a very loud metal band (I was originally a jazz drummer, so your groans of disapproval are not completely dismissed) which practices two or three times a week in a concrete walled room. Our sound dampening devices consist of cardboard and old blankets (we are very high tech), so you can try to imagine the sheer volume presented in this small, ten by fifteen foot room by the drums, two full Marshal stacks, a PA, and a bass amp.
Up until I purchased these, I was using a set of industrial ear muffs which drowned everything out and made it difficult to keep track of where we were in a song. Also, doing an aerobic exercise for three to eight minute intervals over a course of four hours (i.e. playing drums...) tends to make you sweat (profusely, it's gross, but hey I'm human). Let it be known ear muffs are a thousand times more uncomfortable when they are slimy and sliding around your skin.
These plugs were a double upgrade. They are small and keep my head free and cool (and will not slip out due to excessive headbanging), and as advertised they reduced sound levels without entirely distorting the sound (but not completely, this will not beat an in-ear monitor by any means except in price). I can now hear key parts far better to stay on track.
The only downside is they are quite difficult to get in and are initially uncomfortable. You might actually have to wet them slightly for them to sit in your ear properly (yes, it's like giving yourself a wet willy...fun!). Finally, they do not work like foam plugs, so if you are expecting complete sound isolation for something like sleeping on an airplane or drowning out the girlfriend(s), don't waste the money, these are not built for that.
I would recommend these to any musician looking for a cheap(ish) alternative to hearing the constant ringing in their ears (we've all been there, it sucks) without losing complete fidelity characteristic of foam plugs or industrial muffs.

- Works well. Used the plug from the Direct TV Receiver. Makes listening easy, and my wife can practice her harp in the same space without either of us being disturbed. Very clear sound.
- The next best thing to the $160 TV Ears. I have one of each and I use the Listener more often. I like not having to get up and trudge across the room to get the earphones. with the Listener the earphones can be right beside you
Try it, you'll like it
- I've had these for over a year and they work just as described. As with any headphones that cover the ear they do become a little uncomfortable (not excessively) after a couple of hours but that was to be expected. I'm truly puzzled by the negative reviews as I've had no problems. However, when you move out of the line of sight of the transmitter there is a static-ky noise but only for a second. I recommend this product to anyone who has trouble hearing all the dialogue in DVD movies.
- These headphones are the old Resound, and prior to that the old Akrons. In other words, the expertise of these headphones goes back at least 15 years. In the Akron version, there was a tower where there's now a small disc connected to the TV. The disc is better looking and subtler but you've got less room to manuever. I use the headphones while working out. Great on the uprights -- stairmaster, treadmill, etc. -- but I can't do situps and still get reception. With the old tower I could. Other than that, I'm happy with the product. It's a fraction of the cost of Sennheisers, lighter than anything else I've found and very clear and comfortable.
- I absolutely love this thing. When my roommate wants to read, and I want to watch tv, I just put the headphones on and we can both enjoy our evening. There is a little static if I'm using my laptop at the same time or if an electrical storm is coming, but otherwise it's the bomb!!

- I thought by looking at the picture this was like a retractable cord that would pull out when you wanted to use the earphones and then retract when not in use, but no.....you have to manually wind and it doesn't work that great!
- Product works fine and is well priced. However, shipping a rip at three times the amount of the ear buds.
Will shop locally in the future.
- Excellent sound, love the inline volume control, works as advertised. Best $ I ever spent!
- Did not like this product. ear buds are big, no cushions and hard to keep in your ears. Would not buy this again.
- Wow, didn't know what I was missing. I love jazz and old school,I was missing the mid rage and bass. These are terrific no matter what music you listen to. The volume control on the cord keeps me from digging in my pocket to correct loud or low tunes. Comfortable fit in ears. My daughter has been using these for years, I'm just catchin up. Never too late or too old.

- They are OK headphones, I don't consider myself an expert but I wasn't blown away, I guess for the price it's a good buy. I just needed a good pair of headphones for running and for tha they are OK.
- Having spent more than twice the amount for other sport earphones which rendered useless in less than a year, I was looking for a cheap but workable replacement. That's what I found with these. They deliver so-so sound but since I'm running with them, I'm not looking for a concert experience. They are not adjustable, which would make them more comfortable but again, for the price, they do the job just fine and stay put during walking and running. One thing to keep in mind is that the wireis very long and if you plan to use these with your ipod in an armband, you'll have lots of excess cord to deal with. I either wrap it around my ipod or thread the wire through my shirt and leave the excess inside of my shirt to eliminate it bouncing around when I'm running.
- I love these headphones. They stay put and unlike the iPod headphones these actually fit my ears! I've been jogging lately and never have any problems with slippage. I like the color too, very girlie and it matches my iPod armband and case!
- Overall good sound quality, but not the color I thought. They were more red than orange.
- I've used these earphones for over a year now and love them. They're great for sleeping in and working out in. I can't really comment on sound quality as I'm not a huge audiophile, but they sound pretty decent to me compared to some phones I've owned before.
The best part about these are their ability to withstand almost anything. My office was flooded and these phones were actually submerged in water for a while, but came out unscathed. Amazing.

- These headphones were puchased as a gift and they perform exactly as promised. I can't complain about the price or the performance. They are a steal for the price.
- I was looking for some very simple headphone for my sony cd player and these are perfect. The sound is great they fit comfortably I love them.
- These adjustable headphones have good sound quality and are a good value for the money, but even though I am an adult, I have a small head. These headphones do not collapse down far enough to fit my head snugly. In order to make them to fit, I had to pad the headband so they would not slip down below my ears.
- My wife bought these headphones on a yard sale. They were unopened in their original package. I think for the type of phone (simple and light construction)they perform really good. In my opinion, they are a lot better than the phones that come with ipods etc. So for a replacement I think this is a great bargain.
- These basic headphones are lightweight and are great for longer use. We use them with our wireless receivers to watch TV and Movies. They don't hurt your ears even after several hours. For the price, you can't go wrong.

5 comments about Audio-Technica ATH-ANC3 QuietPoint Noise-Canceling In-Ear Headphones (Black).
- I travel constantly (40+ weeks/year) and have owned Sony over the ear noise canceling headphones for a couple of years. I finally quit carrying them with me due to limited space available in my computer bag, ear fatigue from the noise canceling, and feedback when you tried to lean your head against a pillow on a long flight (which isn't possible to do comfortably with the over the ear design anyway).
For a few weeks I used the ear buds from my Creative Zen and while they were convenient, the didn't fit well, so music quality was poor. I also missed having the active noise canceling and had to have the volume up pretty high to hear the music over everything.
I chose the Audio Technica ATH-ANC3 headphones before there were any reviews on Amazon, but based my decision on the reviews for their active noise canceling headphones and ear buds.
When I first received them, I fitted what I thought would be the proper ear pieces and was less than impressed with the noise canceling. I ended up using the largest ear pieces and seating them all the way into my ears to make a tight seal and the noise canceling was outstanding. Getting a good seal on both ears is the key to music quality as well as noise canceling.
The audio quality is brighter than the Sony's I had been using. They do have less bass than I was used to hearing, but I was able to hear the upper end of music (i.e. cymbals, etc.) at very reasonable listening levels (1/2 volume or so). Compared to the ATH-ANC3's, the old phones sound murky to me.
I don't feel any ear fatigue and haven't had any feed back, even when using a pillow. The case is just about the size of an eye glass case, so there isn't any issue finding a spot for it in my computer bag. It has plenty of room for the phones, airline adapter, extra battery and my Creative Zen. The case stashes in the seat back pocket on the airplane until time to put everything away. Battery life probably is on the order of 40 hours or more.
The electronics module is small, but reduces the convenience of the in the ear design. The most convenient arrangement for me is to put the MP3 player in a shirt pocket and clip the module to the top of the pocket. The electronics module is heavy enough that you'll want to clip it to something.
I pulled them out and compared them with the QCII's at the Bose kiosk in the Denver airport a few weeks ago and didn't leave feeling I had inferior headphones.
Highly recommended.
- These are fantastic! I expected a decent quality earphone, but was surprised at the exceptionally high quality sound coming out of my ipod. I had used other noise cancelling earphones, and found these in ear phones as good or better. Even the base was amazing from these tiny earphones.
- I own them both now, the ANC7 Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones(over the ear) and the ANC3 (in-ear) and the in-ear ones ROCK!
-The skinny head audio jack fits iphone perfectly without the need for an adapter
-They are so small and save precious space in my backpack on these long flights. specially since I pack light, free space is important to me.
-runs on AAA Battery which is easily removable.
-The in-ear fit is great. NOTE: play with the three different ear bud sizes to see which one fits your best.
-More comfortable and over the year: I can sleep in these and can put my head against the pillow. My ears don't heat up like they do when wearing over the year ones.
Laundry room test:
Compared the ANC7(over_ear) with ANC3(in_ear). Both are about the same and I rather pick the in-ear ones.
Motorcycle test:
Yup, I commute on the rocket and on weekends ride all day. I listen to music inside my helmet, gets me in the zone and takes care of the loud after market race exhaust, which after all day riding can start to hurt.
Flight test:(coming soon...flying tomorrow)
- I bought those headphones 2 weeks ago. I was not expecting too much from the noise canceling system. I first tried them at work where there is a lot of noise coming from the vents and the A/C, and they are doing a great job at reducing this kind of noise.
I then went for a trip to France. I used the headphones and the adaptor in the in-flight entertaining system, and it was AMAZING! For the first time I enjoyed the movies in the plane. I had to set the volume to the minimum since it cancelled almost completely the background noise of the plane. After watching the movie, I kept the headphones on for the rest of the flight, and I slept like a baby.
I then took a train, and was able to enjoy the music from my iPod without being bothered by the babies crying of the noise of the train.
After a total of 20h in the plane and 6h in the train, the batteries are still good...
I will never travel without those guys anymore! Great buy!!!
- it works nicely. I had a quite time with lots of sleep on my flight.

5 comments about Sennheiser CX 500-B In-Ear Headphone.
- I am a hack audiophile - but I'd say I have a decent ear. These headphones are amazing for the money. I know several people with the Shure SE110 (very similarly priced), and I've listened to them side by side for the last few days. The Sennheiser win out hands down - much more realistic sound stage, great sound reproduction given different sources (home system, iPod, Zune, etc.).
I also like that there are so many different sizing adapters included. Though I'd still rather sit on my couch and drink a beer while listening to my home system, this is the first earbud-style headphone that I have been able to get sufficiently comfortable and snug to use while running or working out. They included 6 different ear adapters - which made it easy to find the right ones that really block outside noise.
Highly recommended.
- Great buds! It is like I'm hearing these songs for the first time. I keep hearing things I've never heard before. Bass is awesome. Didn't realize I was a bass snob, but I must be. I can't go back to lesser headphones now. These rule!
- I purchased these and was not to impressed until they were stolen and I went back to my $[...] Sony's. Wow what a difference. Then I purchased e2c from Shure Few things about the Sennheiser's
1) Great sound
2) Good bass, the new shures I have are not as good.
3) if you work out a lot and are hard on your equipment Id get the Shures. More sturdy/heavy duty
4) But since I like dance techno with bass I regret not spending the extra $[...] and getting these earbuds again.
5) My advice. The most important part of the IPOD/MP3 player set up is the earbuds. Pay the extra $$ for something that really makes a difference
- If you like crisp sound with no interruption from the bass line, then these are for you. I mostly listen to what is now (and always) called classic rock, blues and folk. These would work great with most classical or orchestral as well. if you are shackled to (c)rap or that ilk, pull your pants up and shuffle off to a different ear-bud.
The bass line is present an audible, but lost amidst the high end. Vocals and the rest of the midrange is also present, but not as distinct. They lost a star each for the lack of low-end response, overemphasis on the high-end, it took me a few minutes to get them out of the packaging because they sealed the seams right up to the edge of the mate.
Also, watch the price - I paid $190 for these and then waited SIX WEKS for delivery!!! Highly disappointing! I bought a pair of V-Moda earbuds (for half the price!) and they perform all ranges MUCH better! Actual bass from a set of earbuds. I expected a LOT more for the money from Sennhieser.
- I had upgraded to CX 500 after I lost my CX 300. Worth the upgrade. better and more comfortable ear grip. sound quality is awesome. Volume control feature is very helpful. 5 Star from me.

5 comments about Antenna Headphones for Xm.
- Totally unreliable -- save your money. First pair lasted six weeks before all I got was "check antenna." Second pair lasted three weeks. This item is clearly flawed. Wish I had read the reviews before I paid good money for these.
- Same as everyone previously, I would like an explanation for why these headphones fail after just a few weeks of routine use.
I'm on my second pair, which just went out. As with the first pair and same as everyone else for no apparent reason, the satellite reception just stops. The display on the Pioneer Inno XM receiver shows the message "check antenna" or "no signal."
So far Belkin has replaced the defective ones without charge (you have to pay shipping to return defective pair), but bottom line is you almost need to have 2 pair and "swap" them out one pair at a time in order to keep one working. I do not think it is out in left field to have a product that last more then 2 month at a time.
I too have yet to find any alternatives. No one else makes anything similar that I can find. If anyone has found out the problem is with these things, I would love to know also!
- I have gone through 3 sets of these headphones in the past 6 months. I have the same problem that many other people report: they work fine at first, but then the antenna goes bad, and the message "Check Antenna" appears on the Inno's screen.
I bought my first pair on eBay; that pair lasted 3 weeks. I bought another pair from Amazon; that pair lasted 2 months. Belkin replaced the 2nd pair free of charge. The replacement pair lasted 2 1/2 months. I have no doubt that Belkin will send me another replacement, but it is a pain in the butt to have to ship these things back to the manufacturer every 8-10 weeks.
Unfortunately, these are the only signal-boosting available for the Inno at the moment.
- I live in a remote area of Texas and these headphones are (were) great with XM reception. At first it was like night and day as far as reception goes. They worked great. I'd still lose the signal behind big trees and the like. But out in the open? No problem.
The problems began with one of the earpieces coming completely out and hanging by the wires. Fixed that. But I've noticed that the signal isn't nearly as good. Really aggravating. I'm considering buying another set because...THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE.
They help with reception but they're not exactly sturdy. At least the price has come down. I paid almost double what they're showing now. I don't know. I've had them over 2 years. That's a lot of dog walking.
- I bought this headset so I wouldn't keep losing reception on my INNO when running the wrong direction( where satellite reception was blocked). Works great, only lost reception under bridges. Earpiece became uncomfortable after a few miles.

5 comments about Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones (Black).
- I accually have owned these headphones for more than 7 years. And they still work perfect. The best sound quality that I have ever heard. I travel alot and use them on ever device I own. I don't understand how others, have had problems with them falling apart. Mine have the same flimsy rubber. But that was a added comfort to me. Because I would often fall asleep with them on. And the rubber is soft. I like it like that... I think if your fell apart you must have seriously abused them. Because it wasn't like I, took alot of time to keep them nice... some times I would just throw them in my Backpack... -- Well anyways, any headphones that can last longer than 7yrs are good headphones.
- just ordered my third pair. not because they're falling apart... no issues with cable rubber for me... but because my girlfriend stole my second pair! (also love the uneven cable lengths to hang them around my neck)
shorter length without the extender allows me to use my ipod shuffle at the gym by clipping it to my shirt without having lots of excess wire tangling up all over me. all in all... great for the price. also own a pair of shure e2c which are much more expensive. although highs and mids are not as good with the sony's, they're still very nice and i have recommended to many.
- This product does well at noise canceling while delivering quality sound, especially for the price. But its not for active wearing while working out or running because it will easily fall out. I use it now for when I am sitting around or in an air plain.
- Excellent sound quality and very comfortable fit. I'm using them for medical transcription and they work great.
- I like these headphones but they tend to fall out of my ears sometimes. I have to push them in very far into my ear but they still work themselves out. Sound is excellent.

5 comments about Philips SHS3201/37 Flexible Earhook w/ Bud -White.
- I bought these headphones to replace my iPod earbuds, since I am a runner and needed a more secure fit. At first, these were a dream for the price -- good sound, comfortable, stayed put. However, due to the very flexible design, over not a lot of time (perhaps a month), these lose their elasticity and begin to get looser and looser. Honestly, these flat out fell off of both ears with just a little bit of sweat on many occasions. VERY frustrating, but I guess you get what you pay for.
If you plan on vigorous activity, I highly suggest not taking the cheap route like I did and invest in a quality pair with lasting grip and shape.
- These headphones were too big for my ears. I bought them to run with, but they wouldn't stay on, even when I was just standing still.
- The sound is great but i don't suggest them if yourear's concha is small (like mine), it could hurt y....
- What a shame, what a shame.
I bought these headphones (but black) about 1 1/2 years ago... today, they finally died on me (well, one ear anyways) They're like, THE greatest headphones ever.
My ears are big so they fit right in. :D
I'd recommend these for people who've got big ears and want them to last a while (The headphones, not the ears.) if you're going to run with them... be careful.
I am SO going to buy myself another pair. *clicks check out button*
:D Yep. I only hope these last just as long as my beloved black Phillips SHS3201 Earphones...
Funeral donations can be sent to:
- The ear buds are too big, and as a result are painful to use. The sound quality is terrible to boot, skip this product.
