  1. I had my backpack stolen and in them were my second pair of Sony MDR-EX51LPs that I got after the left ear died in my first pair. When looking for replacements I decided to try something new and looked around at alot of reviews and these had the best overall reviews from the most sources. Here are my thoughts on these buds.

    Pros
    - Sound quality is pretty good but nothing really noticable above my sonys (from what I remember)
    - Durability, these seem to be built well, had thicker wire than my sonys
    - Different sets of ear pieces

    Cons
    - Around $25 more than the Sonys
    - DO NOT MOVE when wearing these... the feedback from the wire is HORRIBLE. There is no way I could work out in these without going insane
    - Not the most comfortable buds ever... the bigger 11mm speaker makes quite a bit of difference in fit. Also I cant put my head down flat in these buds and still be comfortable.
    - (minor) The jack isnt a right angle jack.

Overall, if the feedback from the wire wasn't sooooo bad these phones would be much better. If that improved and the comfort was a little better these would be 5 stars with ease.

However, the feedback is a major problem and I just might look to try to sell these and get me another pair of Sonys!

  2. Don't buy these headphones...seriously. After a week of proper use and care, The sound in the left ear bud went out. Buy the cheaper skullcandy headphones. They last longer and are nicer to your wallet.

  3. Read a review where these were listed as having the sound qualities of headphones triple in price. The article was correct. These headphones are great for bass reproduction and overall sound quality. Good solid build quality. Great bargain!

  4. I decided to get these ear buds since I saw how great they were rated in an online magazine. I've had Sony ear buds which were noise canceling for about $100 and a pair of Sony's that were regular ear buds that were around $50, both of which had an ear bud stop working after minimal use. So I decided to try these titans and they are amazing. None of the Sony's ever had the range of these ear buds; the bass is awesome. The first pair worked out so well that I decided to get a second pair. There are is one major issue though, you can't really run with them, because the cord transmits a lot of sound when it beats against anything. They are not perfect, but nothing I've ever used before sounds as good as these buds have.

  5. I love these buds... one of the best out there..before i got these,i had a cheap target pair of skullcandy's and after about 6 months they were shot.. not bad for 14 bucks.. but still, and then i got these new titanium's...Ive only had them for about 3 weeks and they came with an awesome carrying case, with foam and rubber ear bud add-on's... i unfortunately lost the plastic ear buds and case and had to use the foam add-on's... there horrible..they hurt your ear.. the push themselves off and they rip instantly if you touch them.. stay with the plastic add-on and you got an awesome pair of skullcandy buds.

  1. for the price of 10, you cannot complain! I very much appreciate the fact that it is bandless. I can put it into the pocket.

  2. I purchased three set of these headphones for my men in the family that have too small of ears for most headphones. They are ok to use. I have noticed that after 1 year of having them, only one person still uses this pair. They do work fine, they just slip off easy and the sound needs to be high to hear well.

  1. The headphones that came with my Panasonic SL-SX430 CD/MP3 player just broke on me and I was looking for a inexpensive replacement. I loved the ones that came with the player (even though they were pretty standard/nothing special) so any new ones had big shoes to fill. I wanted something in the same vein as the ones that broke so I chose these. Not the same sound quality as the ones that came with the player. It definitely has a deeper, low-end bass quality but not the overall sound quality clearness, and crispness as my previous ones. They're also a bit on the small side. I guess thats to compensate for its folding design, which is quite useless. My old pair had a remote, this has a volume changer which isn't as helpful as an actual remote. BOTTOM LINE: If you need something to hold you over till you take the next step up in headphones these will do for a little while. I recommend them for a short amount of time ONLY.

  2. There are two ways to compare this to other headphones. I can personally say I think that while they don't sound as great as say the Sennheiser PMX100 Supra-Aural Mini-Neckband Stereo Headphones they do sound far better than Panasonic RP-HS52 Shockwave¨ Clip-on and Straps Design Headphones with In-line Volume Control. If the Sennheiser set came with volume control then that would be my recommendation. However, if you are looking for a headphone that stays in place when exercising (treadmill, eliptical) and with easy to adjust volume as well as decent sound (good bass), then you should consider this set.

The downside is that after one year I finally lost the other ear cushion. I tried using a replacement set from Plantronics, but those don't fit well and I suspect they will fall off too. I think I lost the first ear cushion about 2-3 months ago after quite a bit of usage.

For me volume control is critical since my mixes have songs that have volumes that tend to go all over the place. Therefore to save my ears or to hear certain songs I must adjust the volume often. Trying to reach into my pocket to figure out how my iPod is oriented so I can adjust the volume without losing my balance on a treadmill is not a good idea since I have nearly fallen a few times doing that. The lack of volume control is why I don't wear the Sennheiser set for exercising and why I use this set.

I did buy headphones to replace this (the HG52s), but the sound on the HG52s is rather crappy compared to these. Also the HG52s feel like they will fall off my ears. So for now my search for replacement ear cushions will continue for this set (HG50s). It would be nice if Amazon sold those for Panasonic headphones like they do for other brands (Plantronics, Sony, etc).

Pros: Volume control, decent sound - bass, stays on during exercise
Cons: Ear cushions will fall off after a few months usage, the Sennheisers sound quite a bit better.

Bottom Line: When I am exercising, audio quality is not as important as volume control is, so these work great for me.

  1. I have owned two pairs of these headphones and the sound is superlative. However, I would like them to last more than a year. Both pairs suddenly died on me, the most recent today (I'm shopping around Amazon for a new pair and thought I'd review what I had).

The headphones do everything the manufacturer says they do. Outside sound is all but nonexistant while wearing these...a real marvel. The sound bears mentioning again. It's that extaordinary. Very natural sounding.

Two pairs dying on me, while I'm being extremely careful in handling them, is unacceptable to me.

  2. The product is made with lightweight wire which pulled free of the iPod plug within 5 months. Etymotic wanted $76 to replace them "under warranty." That's not going to happen.

  3. These are awesome!! For those who complain about lack of bass you have to fit them and insert them correctly. If you can pull them out of your ears easily they are not in right. I've read about and tried many of these type of phones and every review has a few people complaining about the same thing. If you take the time to fit them and insert them correctly they rock.

  4. Great sound, great at blocking outside noise. It makes your life better when you have the option of blocking out distractions. I don't have direct experience to compare it to competitors, but if you don't get this inner ear headphone, get a competitor, but get one for sure.

  5. I bought a set of these and used them out in the yard for mowing and yard work with my ipod. They fit very nicely without hurting my ears and have excellent sound cancellation. The only thing they do not have is good bass response. The audio quality is absolutely awesome. I just wish they had a bit more bass. I bought a set of V-Moda bass freq headphones and for the money they are worth the money! I bought sets for my Mom and Sister and they love em!

  1. The design is been strange, definity might not fit well for anyone. The most amazing thing about this headphone is offered feature called HD, which really does work depend the quality of audio. However the audio has static sound you can also heard those as well, but you can hear thing u never heard before, the strong point is the vocal, heard clearly as well, major cons is nearly no bass support. But no headphone this size good in bass anyway. Has nice volume control and clip good for running. Perfect for classical music.

  2. Do not buy these earphones for an iPod.

    1. Way, way over-priced.
    2. Sound is very tinny. Bass is nonexistent.
    3. Clog up with ear wax and you have to buy another pair (see #1).

I have a pair of free earphones from Jet Blue that sound better, honestly. Those free ear phones had better bass and I didn't have to turn my volume up to MAX to hear the song. I am going to return these for a refund. They are an awful waste of money.

I think the people who wrote positive reviews for these earphones either used them for something other than a mobile electronic device, they work for Altec or they are very, very high.

  3. I bought these for $50 from the "used and new" link; at that price, they are 1/7 the list price of the Etymotic ER4P they resemble, and 1/4 their discount price.

At first I thought they sounded tinny and I had trouble fitting them in my ear canal.

I burned them in for 24 hours (someone recommends 7 days) and the sound warmed up a lot. I found the flange eartips give better sound than the foamies. Moistening them made insertion better.

Now I am getting really nice sound from them for the price. In Bass mode, Bass, tremble, clarity, transient response, detail.

Compared to the Sennheiser PC 166 USB, handy for comparison, it is much better in Bass mode all qualities mentioned above. The headset has a slightly warmer presence for male vocals and a very little more efficiency. In HD mode, it is significantly less efficient and bass is much less, less than the 166, but the male vocal is warm and present. I suspect the Bass mode introduces some small distortions in the bass response.

I have read that the Etymotic ER88-50 filters and the ER61-18 eartips available on the etymotic website fit the IM716. Other accessories look like they would work. Good info as Altec Lansing may no longer market these.

  4. I bought these back when they were on sale for something less than $50, can't remember exactly how much. . .

Others have applauded the superior sound quality, and I will second that without repeating the details. However, there is too little emphasis on the side effects of this technology: microphonics, the noise induction when under isolation.

Basically, the cables connected to the earpieces rub up against your shirt, ID badge, iPod, whatever. . . and you hear every single impulse and beat of that damn cable moving around. It's akin to hearing a motor boat miles away when underwater or holding your ear against a wall to eavesdrop on your neighbor. I find myself having to hold myself completely still to enjoy my music when I wear these.

So, if you are mostly docile and sedentary when listening, you'll be able to enjoy these. If you're moving about the slightest, such as rotating in your chair to reach for a pen, you WILL hear that cable rubbing. If you're looking for something to take on your jog, keep on looking. The cable noise will drive you crazy.

There's a new drawback with the advent of new digital music devices. The jack won't fit into the iPhone! Not good.

  5. Bought these two years ago, for my transit to school on the light rail and bus. They do their job well. Even if i sit at the back of the bus, right next to the engine, I don't need to crank up the volume on my music player. Probably saved my ears from a beating.

As far as the sound goes they are better than the stock earbuds that came from with my player. The sound is a lot cleaner and you can hear a lot more in the music.

There are two sounds modes:HD and bass. Compared to HD mode, bass mode is slight louder and brings out the lower freqences. Works as intended I guess.

As far as microphonics(sp?) go, they where not much of a problem for me as i was sitting still most of the time. Using the clip on the volume pod helps a lot if your moving around though.

Overall, pretty good earphone. It's still working after almost 2 years of continuous use and abuse.

On a side note ,if you need replacement filters the ety8 uses the same filters. they can be bought at the etymotic website. You'll want the ER88-50.

1 comments about Cerulean X1 In-ear Stereo Earphones Black.
  1. Cerulean is a product line by iSkin comprised of four high-end consumer electronic audiophile products. There are currently four products, three of which are basically headphones. The fourth is a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver pair to allow your iPod to transmit to a module which is plugged into an iPod stereo dock (allowing the iPod to function as the stereo's remote, in essence). The X1 is the latest addition to the Cerulean line. They are high-end earbuds.

The X1's come in black or white and sell for $99.00 US. The headphone market is becoming more and more similar to the camera market. In short you get what you pay for. Before I tried the X1's, my collection of headphones numbered three. A high end set of on ear headphones for home use (Bose), a high quality pair of earbuds for the road (Extreme Mac FS1) and a surprisingly good-for-the-price pair of cheap earbuds (Griffin Earthumps). Each have their niche. The Bose are the hands-down winners in audio quality with the FS1's in very close second place. Respective prices are $179 and $149. It came as no surprise to me that the iSkin Cerulean X1's rank 3rd in sound quality. That said, I've found myself wearing them more than the FS1's! More on that in a minute.

Sound - I'll try to describe the X1's by way of comparison to my other headphones. My twenty dollar pair of Griffins deliver good bass but are a bit muddy in the high treble frequencies. But they are very small and won't fall out of my ears when I pull a winter hat over them. The Extreme Mac pair give you almost all the frequency range I could ever want. I can hear nuances in the music that I didn't even know existed! And they are in-ear portable buds. I can keep them in my pack. The downside? They're large for in-ear buds. Also, for best sound you have to moisten them (e.g. - lick them) before inserting in your ear. Owners of Etymotic or Shure buds will be familiar with this practice. And the Extreme Mac buds are fidgety. They want to fall out of my ears when bumped. There is no way I can wear a winter hat over them - which excludes prolonged outside use for me (in Alaska) for half the year. The iSkin X1's are almost on-par with the Extreme Mac FS1's in autio quality. They're respectable in both bass and highs, but they don't require pre-moistening and seem to have a very solid fit in my ears. This convenience is outweighing the slight benefit of audio quality from my former FS1's. As an end note, the Bose home units have even greater audio detail than the Extreme Mac units, but are not practical for me away from the house.

What's included in the box - The earbuds in either black or white accents to match your classic iPod. Snap-on silicone ear gels in three sizes, and an unusual carry case. The `case' is actually a rubber puck, molded to hold the buds and provide a slot along it's disc edge to wrap the cord. The design is tedious to use and the rubber is heavy. I tossed the puck and evicted my FS1's from their zippered clamshell fabric case.

The fit-and-finish of the X1's are top-notch. The earbuds are encased within gunmetal black-chrome finished metal housings that provide small amount of pleasant weight. The point where the headphone cord splits is also encased in the same metal. This small amount of weight above my breastbone has the added benefit of keeping the cord from bunching under my jacket. In short, these buds scream `quality'. My conclusion: for a hundred bucks, iSkin delivers a good solid product. If you're in the market, buy these headphones.

  1. These are basically disposable - extremely cheap and the plastic casing broke within a week's time (they were at the bottom of my bag under my laptop...). Exactly what you would expect for what you pay so no surprises.

  2. I bought this to replace the original earphones for my iPod Classic and let me tell you... this are great =)

The quality of sound is exceptional, they look great and fit perfectly in my ears... I have them for about 2 months now and look as good as new.
