3 comments about Samsung HL56A650 56-Inch 1080p Slim DLP HDTV.
- I've had this HDTV for a week and am completely satisfied with it. The picture quality is top notch and the set is easy to operate. There are plenty of inputs for other components and I use many of them already. Over the air 1080i HDTV from the major networks and PBS is amazing, it's hard to believe broadcasts of this quality are free. Standard DVDs played in our upconverting Sony DVP-NS77H upconverting player are very good, of course not Blu-ray/1080p quality but way better than they looked on our old SDTV.
The screen is bright and the colors are nearly perfect. My wife and I still can't believe how good this TV is. When you see rear projection sets in the store they don't look that impressive, especially next to a 58" plasma flat panel but once you get it home you won't be sorry. I can't imagine paying $4500 for a plasma this size when you get so much for under $1400.
The geometric distortion problems of last year are greatly improved with the stronger and deeper cabinet. Not much wrong with this model at all. Of course take a look at the HLxxA750 LED models as well. They're a bit more expensive but the LED light engine will save you money down the road. I liked the PQ of the A650 slightly better and figured the cheaper price would offset the cost of a lamp replacement a few years from now.
I bet you'll love this Samsung!
- this is one of the best dlp sets ever. i have been hawking them for about 2 years now. being a gamer plasma was never an option for me and the lcd set cost too much for for a big screen. i was a little disappointed with the 120hz refresh rate beacause i thought it was going to be smooth like the lcd sets but it is not. but then after researching i realized that it does not need it. the picture is so bright and beautiful it is honestly the best picture i have ever seen. much better than even the sony xbr series in my opinion. i am more than satisfied. my wife even said this has been the best purchase we have made this year! blu rays look incredible so smooth and crisp. do your research and compare and you will come to see the best price and picture to match!
- I have been eyeing up a Sammy DLP set for quite some time. I initially planned on getting the Samsung HLT6187S for the 61 inch goodness and the LED light source. However, as I continued to procrastinate the price of those sets began to rise as they became harder and harder to find. At that point I thought I may as well jump up to the HL61A750 since it is the successor to my dream TV. Well, unfortunately my old lady voiced her opinion that the 61 inch was "too big" for our modest apartment, but said she backed up my decision either way. But me being the sensitive man I am I couldn't stand to make her unhappy and grudgingly started looking for a 56 incher.
My searches would soon bring me face to face with the glorious glow of the Samsung HL56A650. Honestly, if they had a LED powered 56 incher in this series I would have gotten that one instead. I can imagine the reason for this was to lower the price to increase market saturation but I wish they could at least had both versions or a maybe an LED upgrade kit (does that even exist or did I just make that up?).I had a DLP projector a few years back and I've priced the lamps for the TV and they are MUCH cheaper than the ones for my old projector. Even so I was considering buying a replacement lamp and keeping it in the closet when the stock lamp eventually dies so 1) I can capitalize on the lower price while they are in abundance and 2) I won't be weeks without my pretty tv while I wait for the replacement to come in the mail.
Alright enough babble, onto the actual TV itself, I order the TV the 16th, and received it on the 24th. CEVA only sent one person out with the TV so being the testosterone filled he-man that I am, I offered to help him bring it up to our 3rd floor apartment. After careful inspection of the unit and waiting for me to be satisfied, he took all the packaging to the garbage after I told him I didn't have space to store it in case of it being defective. The TV settings were so-so out of the box but after using the calibration disc we picked up previously Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics [Blu-ray] the picture was outstanding once we threw on a bluray disc.
The television is very attractive even when its not turned on, with its stylish piano black finish and thin bezel. Any other 56 inch tv would overpower our living room but the design of the tv allows it to stay amazing low key. Then you turn the picture on and POW! Your eyeballs explode from resolution overload. The remote is pretty slick looking as well, with a piano black finish that matches the TV (and the PlayStation 3 80GB Motorstorm Pack).
I actually thought I was going to be underwhelmed by the sound quality and want a home theater system immediately but I have been pleasantly surprized. Not that the speakers are that great, but they get the job enough that I can allow my wallet to recover the beating buying this behemoth has done before I invest in completing my home theater set up. One thing that kind of surprized me about this tv was that even though there are 3 hdmi hookups, there is only one antenna hook up which I forgot all about. I was actually anticipating hooking an antenna up to the second port to get some free high def channels.
Other than those couple of gripes I really have nothing bad to say about the television. The main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of an LED light source or even an option for one in the 56 inch model. But don't let that be a deal breaker, this is a great tv that gives you more picture for buck than LCD or plasma.

2 comments about Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-46W4100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV.
- This TV is awesome. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and everything works just like expected. I'm not going to give a technical review of the TV, as you can find those on the web. I do want to say that you can't go wrong with it. I spent a long (very long!) time debating between this one and the Samsung A650. They are very similar TVs. While the specs of the A650 are better, I looked at the two in the store and found it very difficult to tell a difference. However, there were multiple areas where the Sony was better for my personal taste. First, I am not a fan of glossy screens. While the W4100 is more glossy than its predecessor, it is significantly less glossy than the A650. This is a big plus if you have any lights or windows in the same room as the TV. Second, the speakers on the Sony are quite good for TV speakers. It won't match a separate sound system, but it is good enough to use. In contrast, the speakers on the A650 are useless. Also, while the menu driven system takes some getting used to, at least the remote control is a pleasure to use - again in contrast to the A650. Of course, the TV comes with all the delights of a Sony Bravia TV, but I leave that to a more in depth review.
In summary:
I love this TV. I would buy it again.
In comparison to the A650 - take a look at the two TVs side by side in a store. Pick the one you think is better. That is what it comes down to in the end - personal opinion. What matters to you in a TV? They are both excellent TVs.
- We find the picture quality on our new Bravia simply splendid. Since we enjoy fast paced sports, the 120hz refresh rate adds to the picture quality. We received our unit through Amazon from J&R, and had absolutely no problems with shipping/arrival. Control menus/commands were at first not a intuitive as we had hoped for, but with a little experience that is no longer an issue. Initial set-up was non-problematic.

- I've had this TV for over 2 weeks, and to be honest, I loved it... until I started noticing some sparkles.
First the good part: the PQ is great, and the set looks amazing. SD content looks spectacular, as do upconverted DVDs.
Now the bad part: Almost immediately I noticed that TV has a case of the 'sparkles' -- in certain dark scenes, some pixels turn white and and it appears as if there are sparkles on the screen (most commonly about 4 inches from the top right portion of the screen, but they can also occur in other places). This is even viewable during the credits of all movies... to be honest, if it weren't for these sparkles, the set would be amazing, but once I started noticing them, they have been bothering me ever since. Hopefully Sony can issue a fix for this -- I've heard that it affects not only the V series, but also the W and Z... and it's not remedied by changing the cables (HDMI or component)
Without the sparkles, I'd give the set 5 stars. Until Sony recognizes this problem, it's gonna have to stay at 2.
- I just purchased this TV and I am completely satisfied with it. I struggled between this model and the Samsung LN40A550 and I am very happy I went with the Sony despite the higher price. I was planning to buy it through Amazon but I went to PC Richards and they matched the price plus threw in a 5-yr extended warranty.
I do not yet have HD or digital--I access cable through a coaxial line and the guy who helped me to install it showed me how to bring in about 40 digital channels including a handful of high def channels using the autotune feature. They look great. I read a lot of complaints about the sound on the Samsung but I think the sound on this TV is very good. I accessed about 40 audio channels of all different music types and the sound is excellent.
The picture is clear and bright and the colors are very natural. I don't know the technical aspects but aesthetically the picture is really amazing. I record and watch old B&W movies from TCM on videotape and even these look good. At least now I can see the expression on the actors' faces which I could not do on my old 21 inch TV. I'm now thinking about upgrading my recording equipment to a upconverting DVD recorder so I can take full advantage of the picture clarity.
- I have the V-Series Sony 40" LCD set immediately preceding this model. Based on my experience with the earlier model, I've recommended the KDL 40V4100 to friends and family. The differences: 1. When the 40V4000 first came out, it was being sold for as much as twice the price of this one; 2. the previous model had 10- bit color processing (which now is available only on the more expensive Z or later series). Although 120Hz is now the rage (available beginning with the W series), Sony's unique 24 fps Movie True mode is likely to make a more noticeable difference in "smoothening out" camera movement than 120Hz capability (which is primarily a come-on for the gamers and "Matrix" generation).
For under $1500, this is the set I would unhesitatingly select ahead of a comparable Samsung (you can get the price down to around $1000 if you go with the S series, but you'll sacrifice Sony's acclaimed Bravia 2 processor as well as Sony's auto-link feature permitting operation of all components with a single switch). If I were willing to spend close to $2000 or more, I would look at a 46"-52" Sony with 120 Hz (just to be current) and 10-bit color processing for a hi-def picture that simply leaves nothing to be desired. I would also do everything possible to purchase from Amazon. (I had to make two exchanges before ending up with the "right" model, and Amazon as usual made both hassle-free transactions.) Also, be sure to check out Amazon Warehouse for a "refurb" or "scratch and dent" model. I've never been disappointed in any of these items at reduced prices, or even noticed any difference from mint.
A couple of things learned through experience: 1. A flat-panel set does not "play" as large as the old tube models. If you formerly required a 27" convection tube screen, you'll need 32"-40" to enjoy a similar viewing experience with an LCD flat screen. 2. When watching HDTV telecasts (still only a small percentage of channels), it's quite likely you'll notice little to no difference from standard definition if the screen is less than 40". So if you're planning on purchase of a 36" or smaller screen, skip the extras. 720p is more than adequate, and most of the other frills can be regarded as needless extra expense. Also, SD (standard definition) will look better on any small screen than on the most expensive manufacturer's large screen models, so make price--not brand name--the primary criterion when selecting a screen under 40".
- Bought the sony about 3 weeks ago.....Got it almost perfect where I can watch all channels on full screen....You really must play with it......I plan on buying the upconverting DvD player to match TV....I watch alot of reg TV...So the speakers are very important to me....This unit is 1st class..........Trying to adjust the reg stations with a cable box can be a pain.....But!!!! It can be done......To watch full screen......I also found that watching DVDs (Widescreen) can be a pain.....I found out that Sony upconverting Player can solve this...79.99.....
- I bought this TV on May 28th from CC. So far I am completely satisfied with the TV. It has the legendry Sony Picture quality Tag and it truly delivers upto its name. Lots of reviewers talk about the Sound Quality but I foud that it is way better than other Samsung and LG/Sharp. The S Surround sound is exceptional. Though it should not be compared to any HT system quality.
4 HDMI connection rocks and if you have Bravia Sync components you dont even need an extra remote. I have hooked up my Sony DVD player, Onkoyo HT system and Cable receiver via HDMI. This TV has more than enough HD inputs which comes very handy if you wanna hoke up all the appliances together. One more feature is the TV and Text mode when I hook up my Sony Vaio. It delivers a crisp quality picture. The new V Series looks better than its predecessors and you cant get a better TV with a price tag of 1350.

5 comments about Toshiba 19LV506 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with Built In DVD Player White.
- We replaced an older panasonic 15" w/dvd in our kitchen with this unit and it was a big step up. No more squinting at scores in the lower corner from the third bar stool. Image quality and color saturation are very good. Artifacts from quick movement in HD media is fairly well controlled. Cabling on the back was clean and simple if you use a 90 degree connector for the cable. The only feature that does not measure up to the rest of the features is the audio. It is not that it is too soft as some people have written. It is that the sound spectrum for some sources seems clipped. It is not significant and there are audio out jacks if this is important to you. The bottom line is that we would not hesitate to buy this unit. It is well made and works well.
- When I recieved this product, I immediately found that it did not work. I attempted to get it replaced and Toshiba refused to do that. I had to return it AT MY OWN EXPENSE. Worst customer service experience I have ever had!
- this is my great little kitchen tv! I love it! clarity of picture, sound are GREAT!
- I bought this Toshiba HD TV/DVD combo when my old (ten years) 15 inch Samsung failed. What a great TV this is! Absolutely spectacular picture, great sound, and Oh! such light weight. Plus, the price was superb and the shipping was two day air via FedEx.
I absolutely could not be happier with this purchase.
Rod in Seattle
- I purchased this product from an Amazon vendor a month ago. How does it work? I have no idea because it would not turn on when we got it out of the box. The power light went on and that it was it. We tried to operate the integrated DVD player and of course it accepted the DVD but would not eject it from the unit. We sent it to Toshiba customer service and they told us after a week that they could not repair it because a part was on back order so they would send us out a new unit. Fine, I thought. I called back a week later to find out that the unit was on back order and it would be another week before the units would come back in. I called today, ten days later, and they told me that the units have come in but my order inexplicably has not yet been shipped. I was told to call back in another week if I do not receive the TV in the interim. I have asked numerous times for a refund and Toshiba repeatedly has refused.
This has been one of the worst consumer buying experiences I have ever had. I usually buy Sony televisions but made an exception this time because I had specific space constraints and the footprint of this unit matched my needs. This is a mistake I will not repeat. Buy a product from Toshiba at your own peril.

5 comments about Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-46XBR5 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
- Our old 27" Panasonic finally gave up the ghost just before Xmas. After reading as many internet reviews as possible, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the pricey Sony KDL46XBR5. You know you have made the right decision when the installer is jealous of your set. Great picture, great sound, great televison. This is the standard by which all LCD's are judged. I just wish there was more HD programming available. Saving up for my Blu-Ray player now.Sony KDL46XBR5 46" BRAVIA XBR(R) series LCD Flat Panel HDTV
- I owned the KDL-46XBR3 for a year, then I had an unexpected opportunity to replace it with the KDL-46XBR5.
If I thought that the XBR3 picture was amazing, the XBR5 is even better, much better. Movies get unprecedented realism, almost 3D. It is a visual experience I never had with any TV I ever watched.
Of course, a few analog channels look bad when stretched to 46", but that is true for anyone upgrading from a 27" low-def tube to an HD big fixed-pixel screen.
The XBR3's menu was easier to use than the fancy XMB in the XBR5, and both sets have big but basic remotes which are not good for anything other than controlling the TV itself. No buttons for even cable box's info, guide, page up/down etc.
And yes, its design is a stunner on the wall, when turned off.
Don't forget to read the reviews for KDL-46XBR4, it is the same TV.
- This was a terrific buy. The price has dropped considerably at local stores, but the best deal was from Van's with free shipping. We was able to track delivery all the way, and it came in a day early. It arrived in perfect shape and the driver even helped me bring it into my living room. I had to offer him a tip at least three times before he'd accept it.
We almost didn't spend this much money on a flat screen based on what I looked at in the Best Buy showroom. This one is worth it. We have a brightly lit family room during the day, and it doesn't get washed out at all. When we first tuned in to an HD channel our jaws dropped. HD channels are amazing and there's enough of them now that we spend most of our time watching only HD programming. We have an older DVD player, but movie rentals and home movies look great. With the 16:9 aspect ratio it feels like we're really watching a movie compared to just watching a movie on TV. There are a few artifacts and some of the older TV shows are blurry, but about 95% of what we watch is excellent. FIOS should fix these minor problems.
Setup was easy, about 30 minutes. To setup the TV you'll want to connect your cable directly to the TV first, then connect it to your DVD player and the HD box you get from the cable company.
We've been able to watch an HD movie from my new laptop that came with an HDMI output. We've also been able to work on the laptop hooked up to the LCD TV using a wireless mouse and keyboard from the couch. At 1920 x 1080 pixels, I had to increase the font size in the browser but I was off surfing in no time.
The style of the TV is beautiful. We placed it in a Stanley Furniture Lincoln Park Plasma TV Bookcase and the combination is stunning. We bought the bracket to mount it, but when we set the TV in the bookcase on it's own pedestal it was just fine. We love every aspect of it.
- I have been waiting for 2 years to join the flat panel, high def TV crowd. The thing that always stopped me was price, quality of standard def on a fixed pixel TV, and the number of high def stations to actually watch. Prices have come down and the number of high def stations has gone up so picture quality was left.
After researching it as much as I could, I got this TV. The floating glass perimeter with piano black surround looks sharp; I think much better than the XBR4.
On to picture quality: high def is fantastic as you would expect but standard def looks as good or better as a regular tube TV. It says in the owners manual that the picture is as good as the input. I have a satellite digial signal and get the results I describe. If you have cable or over the air then you may get different results.
Another thing I will mention is the remote has easy to use buttons on it to adjust the picture settings as well as the size. This means you can change the settings to the default picture settings for cinema, for example, which tweaks alot of calibrations on color, motion, etc. You also can easily toggle thru the picture sizes to stretch or unstretch the picture. I find the longer I have the TV the less I use these because I have found the ones I like best but it is nice to know they can be easily adjusted if desired.
Finally, I also got a Toshiba upscaling DVD player/recorder for about $130. It says it upscales DVD's to 1080p and they do look fantastic. I may have to hook up a regular DVD player to see if there really is a difference but overall this TV has worked out great for my situation.
- In the past six months, I've been fortunate enough to purchase two flat-screen TVs for different parts of my home, and one is the Sony XBR5 LCD TV. I find the picture and sound quality very good, especially on HD sources such as 1080p Blu-Ray. The HDMI and other connections work flawlessly. The controls are well done with easy-to-navigate menus, and all the technology Sony describes adds up to a really good product. Side by side against Samsung or other LCD competitors, I think Sony clearly has the best product.
I would leave it at that, however, the truth is that as good as the Sony is, it doesn't hold a candle to the other TV I recently bought - a 50" Pioneer 1080p plasma. While plasma may seem to be yesterday's technology, I had a tight space that the Pioneer 5010HD fit perfectly, and so I went with it. Now, after several months of watching the plasma versus the Sony, I can honestly say that the LCD technology in the Sony has a long way to go before it catches the Pioneer's picture quality. Indeed, after watching the plasma for any length of time, going back to the LCD is a bit of a let-down...by comparison, the Sony is harsh and grainy, with much poorer black levels and much less of a "film like" experience.
Yes, I give the Sony high marks for what it is - but I'd encourage anyone reading this review to take a long hard look at a similar sized high-end plasma unit before committing to the Sony.

- I bought this for my 84 year old very techno Mother just days ago. I recently bought a Sony XBR4 52" from amazon with the white glove delivery and everything was perfect. This crew was not so great but we adapted and the TV set was really great despite the delivery crew. I would highly recommend this set. The 40" set really does not have to be 1080P, esp. since cable cannot deliver anything in HD this set can not receive. If you go to a 46" set; you definitely need to go to 1080P. Buy this set! Mom has this in her living room and absolutely loves it!
- I wasn't really planning to purchase a TV for another six months, but I happened across this model at 900 bucks on Amazon and decided to pull the trigger. For a 40 inch TV, 1080p is unnecessary.
I knew I wanted one of the Name Brand (Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, Sharp, LG) TVs because of some poor experiences my friends have had with other brands like Vizio and Dynex.
And while this is the older entry-level model from Samsung, the major differences (in addition to 720p vs 1080p) between this model and the more expensive ones largely came down to one fewer HDMI inputs (2 vs. 3), a lower contrast ratio that is still good enough to clearly distinguish many shades of black in a brightly lit room, and a slower refresh rate that might matter if I were playing a fast-paced video game, but hasn't been noticeable at all for watching TV (including sports) and movies.
All in all, for a price that comes in 30% or more below similar sets, I couldn't be happier.
- For the price, at the time of purchase, you couldn't beat this TV. Delivered to your door, and taken out of the box which also is a big plus.
The TV is large, the image is crisp and clear, bottomline is that it works. If you've been reading TONS you'll notice that there are some slightly brighter screens that produce deeper blacks etc. So yes, you CAN get a slightly better image but at a much higher price. I've had it for several weeks now and have never said, "oh, that black isn't as deep as I want". Fantastic product.
- This TV is amazing and is a good deal for the price.
Eventhough its advertised as 720p it can go upto 1080i.
Picture Quality and Sound quality are excellent.
TV looks really cool.
It has all the ports you can ask for.
Shipping took about 6 days but for free shipping i think that was fast enough.
- This TV has a beautiful picture. I bought a Samsung because the vividness of color was unmatched in the sets I looked at. My only regret is that I mounted it above my fireplace and wish it was a 46" or 50". A TV a bit larger would have been nicer there. At this point though for $899 I couldn't go wrong. This will probably end up in the gameroom as I replace my tubes one by one. Nice buy!

- I just got this tv because of its good price i was scared at first because it was very cheap but let me tell you im very glad i got it i have A PS3 plug in on it and What this tv Rocks Also this is not my first lcd i hAve had 2 Sharp 26in Aquos tvs And i was very happy with them but i wanted to upgrade to i bigger 32in the sound is good not as bad as alot of the tvs out there the picture is crisp when using HDMI Or Watching HD Channels they have a other model that looks just like this one but cost about $100 more Dont wast your money i had the 2 tvs in front of me and guss What No Difference in the to at all. Well this is just a little info for those who are looking for some info on this tv like i was for 2 weeks with no info i took the chance.
- I initially considered the Samsung 330 or Sony L4000,
but I saw this when I actually went to the store. The
Samsung lacked S-video input, and the Sony was a little
darker compared to the other two. The Sharp was also
more compact around the screen with the frames being
the skinniest of the three. This was also the cheapest,
and it had S-video.
I am extremely happy that I went with this TV. My BF
has a Samsung 40 inch i the living room, but we hardly
notice the difference in quality when we switch rooms.
The TV is very bright and can be used in room with lots
of sunlight. I recommend this to anybody shopping for a
32 inch!
- Picture quality is excellent - you can see individual strands of hair in head shots. Setup was a breeze. This is a good size choice if you currently have a standard 25" set. It's the same height but you get the extra width. I had some video synchronization trouble when switching channels from my cable company's pseudo digital to true digital stations. I found that you can re-sync the picture by pressing the TV remote freeze button twice, once to freeze and another time to unfreeze. I had a standard Sharp TV before and was very satisfied, and I can say the same again with my new Sharp LCD HDTV.
- This DTV was purchased for my mother who had been wanting a more modern replacement to her dying 15-year-old set. Although many products are available to choose from, we chose this model because of the Sharp name and our previous good experience with Sharp Electronics and the quality behind the name as well as for its price. Since money was tight, we needed the most bang for the buck and this was our choice. The television arrived very quickly after shipping, was packed well and setup was so easy that we had it in place in just a couple of minutes. Ease of operation couldn't be any simpler. My mother, being elderly, needs simplicity when it comes to technology and this can't be beat. The quality is certainly there and we're all very pleased with the purchase.

- Hi Everyone,
We recently purchased this TV, and I have to say it is GREAT. We got it primarily for our photography business - basically, to use it as a giant monitor for editing and to show photographs to clients. It is the exact look and feel we were going for.
So far, everything has worked out perfectly. Particularly, it looks wonderful with our iMac putting video out to it at 1920x1080 @ 60 hertz via HDMI (mini-dvi to DVI to HDMI). It looks great as well with our Compaq PC laptop hooked up through VGA - again at 1920x1080 @ 60 hertz. I honestly don't see a difference on this model through VGA vs. HDMI, but I haven't run any comparison tests yet.
The sound is really decent on this TV. We can set it at a volume to comfortably here it at 30 feet away without maxing out the volume. Though, we can also hook it up to our sound system to put out more sound / bass. It does have optical sound out which works just fine for this (or you could use the standard RCA red & white audio out).
The display itself is absolutely crisp. We haven't tried customizing it yet, but there are a good bit of options for that as well. To give you an idea, a photograph on our 20" iMac looks just as good (if not better) on the 530 Samsung. There's no loss of color, blacks, or details. Originally, the images on the TV seemed to have a sharpening affect applied - we took down the sharpness on the Samsung and it is now spot on.
I'd easily recommend this TV to anyone. It has all the inputs and outputs you'd need. The display is absolutely great (on par with an Apple screen - which is saying a lot). It has a nice, sleek feel to it (even the buttons are recessed and don't poke out). It is easy to use.
Oh, one note: it is a 60 htz tv, not 120 htz. For us, we didn't want or need the 120 htz as we're primarly working with photographs. Really, movies and TV are still at 24 fps and 29.97 fps ... it'll be quite a while before they go higher than that (to 60 htz or 120 htz) ... at the moment I believe 120 htz movies are actually at 24 fps and then the 120 htz tv displays 5 frames per actual frame to make the movie appear smoother. Just some tech talk there.

The LCD panel on this TV is the same as the one on A550 model. Several people have confirmed with Samsung. The difference in contrast ratio versus A550 is a typo apparently.
What I like about this tv:
-great picture quality (search avs forum for professionally calibrated settings for this TV. It made a significant difference in picture quality
- good sound for everyday tv watching
-good quality ATSC/QAM tuner ( I pulled in channels that I didn't I had)
comparison vs A550:
+ better sound because of side mounted speakers
+ cheaper (though amzn had A550 for less than A530 at one point last month :)
- does not have wiselink (view photos/mp3s from usn thumb drive)
I dont care about viewing photos/mp3s too much so I went with the A530.

- We are very pleased with this television. The picture is crisp, sharp and vibrant. It has great sound and was easy to set-up. Looks nice, too. With a cheap antenna, we pick up a handful of analog stations and 10 or so digital stations without cable or a satellite. A few of them are already HD and are amazing. You can get cheaper, but I doubt they are anywhere near this good.
- I have had this television set since May 9th and am very pleased with it. Even I was able to set it up. I don't have the expertise to evaluate the technicalities, but I recognize an outstanding picture when I see it. I thought I had a defective set for a three day period (faces were "sun-burned and most everything was pink), but the problem turned out to be a defective cable from my cable provider. The size of the set isn't overpowering in my small room. For watching baseball games and nature programs this set provides a picture that is superb. I can't imagine you doing any better than this set.

- The 37XBR6 is a great TV for movie buffs. The CineMotion technology on the 37XBR6 creates amazing, life-like motion in movies. Even older movies come to life with this technology. The picture color has a very natural look that doesn't look over-saturated like other TVs. The black level on the TV is amazing. I see details in movies I never saw before with my other HD TV. Also, videogames look great with no lag. A great purchase that I am very happy about.
- I had been searching for a large HDTV for some time, and had settled on either the latest Samsung 46 LCD or Panasonic 50 Plasma. But I still had a nagging bad feeling about the picture quality. I finally saw the Pioneer Kuro Elite 50 and knew that that was the ultimate. To get a larger screen though, I was going to need a new TV stand. When all was said and done, a 37" did not have the stretched pixel effect I was seeing in the larger screen sizes, and I wouldn't need a new stand. Then, as if by magic, the Sony XBR6 came out in a 37" size that had 24 frames per second capability, and I was sold. I have not been disappointed. The picture quality is awesome, and the integration with my Onkyo TX-SR606 and Panasonic DMP-BD30K is terrific (all support HDMI 1.3 so less cables - yeag!). This is one great TV, and Amazon's partner's price was great.
