5 comments about Sony Bravia KLV-S26A10 26-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel Television.
- I purchased and have watched the KLVS26A10 for 6 months and have adjusted and modified all I can and it simply is not a good product. It is inconceivable that Sony would put out a bad product like this...there should be a recall of it. The facts: The picture is not good for live/recorded shots of people...there is little definition or depth of facial characteristics. Every person appears like they have pancake make-up--like the image has been air-brushed of all definition. For me, these situations make up 50% of what I look at. I was so trusting of Sony, that I assumed I was at fault and either had the wrong cables, cable connections or couldn't tune it properly. All the best cables and fine tuning the color/image/light balance is of no avail. I was taken by the Sony name and by Crutchfield's claim...and I quote from their catalog "...Bravia is...a guarantee from Sony that you'll enjoy years of supurb picture quality...." Enough said
- very good tv, easy to connect with the computer and good for games, ideal for small rooms.
- We just bought this TV and are quite impressed. Picture clarity and color are absolutely wonderful, especially for an LCD. Even old video tapes take on a whole new life when viewed with this television. It's also very good looking itself. I really like the light sensor that detects ambient light and adjusts picture brightness. We have this TV set up next to a large, south facing picture window and the picture is remarkably clear and not washed out even on the brightest sunny days.
- I have owned the 26" Bravia for about a year and the only con is the price. I paid $1000 for it. The picture is high quality and the features are great. I'm only disappointed that had I looked around a little more I could have got a bigger TV for less, though I probably would have sacrificed some quality. I am sorry for those who have written such negative reviews, the only thing I can think is that they did not hook it up right or they got a faulty product, because I know mine works wonderfully and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to pay a little extra for high quality.
- I had never purchased such an expensive TV as the KLVS26A10 in my life, but I thought by buying the SONY brand I would be paying for and getting quality. In two years, the picture became so dark that it was difficult to view. I called tech support, but nothing would fix it. I called customer relations and got nowhere. The authorized service dealer was in another city, close to an hour away. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of driving that far, leaving the set for an estimate, and driving back to pick it up, so I gave the set away. No use throwing good money after bad. I wrote a letter to SONY describing my frustration and displeasure. I received a phone call about my letter from SONY national customer relations. The rep wanted to know with whom I spoke. I told him I would look for my notes. I spent 20 minutes looking, called him back with the names, and discovered he knew all along who they were--they were in my record (his file) the whole time. He even told me the date and corrected one of the names. If I was upset before all this, I was really upset after this charade. I asked to speak to a supervisor, left a message, but never heard back. I called Public Relations, left a message, but never heard back. That was about a week ago. I would not recommend this brand of television to anyone. Buyer beware.

- I am a tech consultant; nonetheless excuse me for this non-technical review. I must say I truly like this TV. The banding others have spoken about is certainly real, but only visible with certain content. Otherwise the display is excellent, especially for "older" technology (it's now July 2008 and the set is what? 2 years old?) The audio is very decent compared to some other TVs I have seen, though I usually play audio through my receiver. The remote control is no-nonsense and the entire device has given me no trouble whatsoever since I purchased it (more than a year ago). I don't know who actually makes the set (see comments in some of the other reviews), but it seems like a "Toshiba-quality" product. Oh yeah, there's no apparent burn-in whatsoever.
- After reading many reviews, we purchased this TV for $2400 on March 22, 2006. Yesterday, March 16, 2008, a loud popping noise and the TV goes black. We have sound, but no video. Toshiba says "sorry." Expert repair guy says probably will require major work and suggests we start looking at the new and improved and cheaper TVs out there now. It won't be a Toshiba.
- I bought this plasma for my b-day present to myself and it's never let me down. Although, I was in the market for a second plasma, I thought this was better for the bedroom.
- Be wary of the one year warrantee. My set failed at 13 months and Toshiba (so far) would not help. There are hot spots and color distortion in the clouds and basically any white areas on either regular TV, DVD or video games.
The tech support was worthless to the point of being annoying. I've done a web search and I'm not alone. However, as of yet there are no recalls.
- We heard a pop, lost the picture, then the sound, then the ability to turn it back on. Toshiba's closest authorized dealer is 70 miles away and, since the warranty had expired, gouged us nearly $700, half of which was labor, to replace a couple parts. The tv worked for about 45 minutes and now we get no picture or sound again. We've had other Toshiba's and believed them to be reliable. Now that I've had to experience virtually no technical support, I'd have to say I'll never buy another one.

- I have this TV and I am very happy with it. It has a very nice, bright, crisp picture. It has TRUE 1080 - be careful when looking at sets. 1366 X 728 pixels is 720P HD. 1920 x 1080 is full 1080i/p HD. Often times sellers give the pixels and then say the TV takes 1080i input - this does not mean it can display all those pixels though! Check the pixels if you want 1080, it should have 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has lots of inputs including 2 HDMI (3 would be nicer but many TVs just come with 1).
Now, this is not the most full-featured model and you may be able to find more features for your money. It does not have picture-in-picture (bummer). The menus are navigable, but sparse and somewhat awkward (but not too bad). The automatic format detection is a bit buggy - it may try to automatically change the aspect ratio during the middle of shows and movies and that can be annoying. You just need to manually set the TV to Widescreen in this case.
Overall, I am very happy with the set.
- When I first got this tv I was amazed at how I got such a good deal. The picture quality is excellent and the price was great. After about 3 months it started having problems. It started taking longer and longer for the tv to turn on. Now it takes about 10 to 15 min to turn on. Also after 6 months it is starting to have trouble with the ATSC/Qam tuner. HD channels are starting to go blank. I wish I could return it but now I am stuck with it.
Thanks Magnavox.
- We had the TV about 3 months before the pic just screwed up...you couldn't watch it at all. Trying to get it fixed was the worst! You can't just take it back; they find a certified TV repair person in your city (which took a month), the repair people called and made an appt for 1 1/2 weeks out. They finally come find the problem, order the part (took 2 weeks) , make another appt(one week later) and come replace the bad part. Worked fine for another 2 months but has started the whole process all over again. When it works, great picture. All in all, we lost about 2 months of viewing waiting on for the run-around to come full circle!
- It took a software update to make this tv perform correctly. previously, the only time i was happy with the picture quality was for a fraction of a second when switching between the menu and normal viewing. for some reason, just exactly then, the picture became GREAT.
fiddling with brightness and tint and contrast, etc, only generates slight changes in screen appearance.
we touched the screen with bare fingers when we installed it, and seem to be cursed with an eternal unerasable smudge.
seriously: no proctective, cleanable barrier between the lcd and the world?
we have yet to get any hdtv equipment. no telling how things might improve
- i've had this tv for almost a year now. it looks great with my verizon fios hd service. i havent had any problems with it, so i dont what others are talking about. good bang for the buck

- Researched quite a bit and found that this TV is *NOT* marketed by Sharp as an Aquos. Apparently they now have a perhaps lesser-quality line LCD-TV, and this TV is not an Aquos. Notified Amazon of this too.
- UPDATE: August 22, 2007--We now have DISH Sat Service and the HD Box and lots of HD Channels. This set is just wonderful. No problems after one year of ownership. The picture is very clear on all channels, HD or regular. And, this TV should last for years! When I do buy another HD TV, I will get a LARGER one about 48" and maybe plasma. However, the LCD is just fine.
First, let me share my experience. I wanted an HDTV, and FLAT panel LCD, not a plasma TV. However, I knew little or nothing about the LCD HD's. After thinking about buying one for months and looking at them in the stores, I asked the salesman which was the most simple one to set up and use. He suggested the Sharp. Since I liked the picture, I bought the Sharp. First, I had this connected to CABLE and a special HD box and I did not like the reception on the cable hookup. Then, I switched to satelite service, and quit my cable company. What a differnce in the picture, night and day difference, now I am in love with this TV! This picture is STUNNING and SUPERB. I see clarity and colors I never saw in my old analog JVC (and this was the best TV I ever owned until now). The picture quality and colors on this TV are breathtaking. I really enjoy the set and I love watching my DVD movies, HD tv shows and even local shows on it. Just to let you know, it does take time to get used to the picture and color vividness on the HDTV, but as you watch it more, you will not want to go back to the old tube type analog TV. The most important thing I learned is for a fuller screen is to put this on the ZOOM view. This way you do not lose so much picture. The Sharp book has been alot of help and also I went to Google and looked up all I can now about HDTV and am learning as I go. All in all, my eyes are happy now when I am viewing this TV! Sharp is a great TV!
UPDATE: Monday, July 23, 2007 - The TV now rates 5 stars now for 2 reasons:
1) I have the DISH HD Receiver Box and have many HD Stations now, which look wonderful on this TV. (The older Cable service I have only had a few HD TV shows on it, the Dish has many more HD Stations and the colors are out of this world now).
2) I have read the book cover to cover and know this TV well. After all these months, I love this TV more and more and more...
- I bought a sharp lcd tv from j& r in new york last Jan, after a year and half, when powering on the tv, sometimes works, sometimes not. after unplug in, wait for a while and plug back, worked for a couple months. Send it to service center to checkup, was told that the lcd control board needs to be replaced. when request to get back the replaced lcd control board, was told that sharp does not give back the replaced board, it has to be shipped back, otherwise, you have to pay additional fee to get back the replaced board.. it's rather strange to hear such a lousy policy from any vendor..
But, if you do want to get a sharp, better get a long long warranty..
- This TV is an exceptional value. Just received this yesterday from B&H and am very pleased. The picture (especially sports) is supprisingly good with very little blur, concisidering the contrast ratio and other specs are slightly below many higher end models. Using the component cables, DVDs look to be fantastic, I played Star Wars Episode III and really enjoyed the sound quality and pucture. The remote is easy to use, menus are easy to follow and the set-up was a breeze. I'm please with the purchase- The stand quality is high and the input jacks are firm. I don't have a lot of usage experience but based on value, picture quality, sound and harware quality would give this TV a 5/5.
- This has terrible motion blur in fast-moving scenes (or even medium-speed scenes), due to its high 12ms pixel response time. It is also very difficult to see detail in low-lit scenes, due to its 800:1 contrast ratio. In dark scenes, distinguishing what is going on is impossible. This TV was a huge disappointment. After doing much research, I have learned that you need 8ms or lower pixel response time to avoid motion blur on LCDs and contrast ratio at least 10,000:1 (recommended). Try to look for those two features (among others) when choosing an HDTV. This particular Sharp model is very basic. You could find better quality for your money with a different HDTV.

- I have had this set for 1 year next week and LOVE IT. I have not had one single problem with it. The picture is killer and the features are simple to use. The only thing I dislike is the audio could be a little better, so I went out and purchased a surround sound to fix that problem. When I decide to upgrade to a larger viewing size in the next year or so, Toshiba will defiantly be on top of my list of brands.
- This is our Tax Refund gift to our family, purchased in March of 2007. The TV retails for around $1200 nearly every where you look, but we were able to find it for less than $930. The best price I have found on the net is $730.
I would highly recommend this TV to anyone looking for a great, great picture and average sound. If sound is terribly important to you, you already own a surround sound system.
My bulb did blow nine months into owning it... not sure how many hours, but I know it is on nearly all day! I called Toshiba and they are processing the replacement bulb to be sent to me now (under warranty). Someone complained that bulbs cost $600... that's nonsense - before Toshiba came through I priced them as low as $229.00 No, I don't want to pay that every nine months; I think I could find the bulb for less down the road and I did save substantially in the initial purchase.
- YES, IT WAS REFURBISHED BUT WITHIN 6 MONTHS I HAD TO BUY NEW LAMP KIT FOR ALMOST $300 THEN A BLACK MARK APPEARED AT TOP OF SCREEN & IT WILL COSTS $600 TO FIX IT!!! ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM TOSHIBA AFTER LETTERS, EMAILS & CALLS. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.
- Its a great TV, good price for the size, but that low price hides the hidden cost.
The $250 lamps. They last about year, (I got 18 months out of mine). You are essentially buying a $250 halogen lamp that should cost $50. So yah, its planned thing, a way for Toshiba to milk more money out of you. And any time they want to force you to buy a new TV all the need to do is stop making that lamp.
Spend a bit more on a LCD TV, or another brand entirely.
It does get 2 stars for being a good TV, as long as you pay the yearly "subscription" charge to use it.
- First off, I love this TV! I play a lot of video games and watch blu-ray movies and the picture quality is very good. whoever says that it's not is full of it. I have a 1080p tv also and they are very close in picture quality. I have owned this tv for about 19 months now and have not had to change a bulb yet. I would recomend this tv to everyone. For the ones who have had to replace their bulbs, I think you just got a bad apple....it happens with all tv's, even the best. good luck
