  1. I purchased this item in March 2003 and now in June it does'nt work! I turned it on one day the set stayed on approximatley 40 minutes and then the picture began to switch off and on off and on...
I paid [a lot] for this item it should work great with no hassels! I'm writing this rewiew in an effort to warn other HDTV shoppers to be very wary of this product. The Manufacturers of these HDTVS need to understand the purchase of one of these sets is a major financial consideration for most people. I am now watching my old ...color JVC and you know what it looks better all the time!
If you feel you must buy this model from Zenith see if the merchant will give you a couple of weeks to try the product. if not find another manufacturer.......I feel in order to be fair to Zenith I must follow up on my initial poor review with a progress report. After calling Zenith and venting my anger with them I contacted one of their service representatives A technician came to my house a couple of days later, he replaced the defective parts at no charge to me and now my TV works great and looks even better P.S. have it calibrated...

  1. Excellent product. No complains. Strongly recommend.
Eagle shipping is also very good. They delivered the TV and took away all packaging boxes.

  2. TV: Since this TV replaced a Sony XBR with 1080i resolution, the picture quality we see is only slightly better. Also, I have not noticed the clouding problem that many other buyers of other S series models had problem with.

    Good:
    - very good HD pictures
    - color & brightness when using HDMI input
    - sound quality is much better, could be due to HDMI

    Bad:
    - the response (switching between inputs, volume change) is way too slow, even compared to a much cheaper brand LCD we have.
    - there is no way to skip the coax cable input which we don't use.
    - no picture in picture (I knew this before buying)

    Delivery: very bad experience
The delivery was late and it cannot be considered "white glove" because all the delivery guys offered to do is to hook up the TV at the nearest outlet in my living room to prove that it was not dead. Secondly, it took over a week (half dozen email/calls) to get Amazon to agree to their policy (that because of the late delivery, return shipping should be paid by Amazon), which also meant that I could not refuse the shipment and ultimately hooked it up while getting this resolved. Oh yes, they offered a $15 coupon and are yet to respond to my final comments on this experience after four days.

  3. I live in a rural area, and could not get any store to deliver a television to me. Even delivery companies would not deliver a television in particular. Amazon came through with shining colors. The delivery was prompt - understand that the delivery company will CALL by telephone for an appointment. I waited for an email for longer than I had to prior to checking my phone messages, whereupon I found the Television waiting to be delivered. The service was very good, if not "white glove." The delivery man offered to help me take the television inside, which was nice - but he's certainly wasn't familiar with the television set, and so I didn't want him to hook it up.

The television arrived in in perfect shape, and performs spectacularly.

    Why this set is special:

    - Picture quality is superior coming from this television's image processing software.

    - Exterior of the television is matte black, not reflective lacquer like Samsung and Sharp. That reflection is distracting from the picture.

Looking at this sony as well as a Sharp and Samsung that had better specs on paper (higher resolution), this television's picture quality was superior. The Sony has better image processing software/hardware built in so that it "cleans up" standard input signals AND cleans up compressed mpeg image quality (from less-than-perfect DVD's). That really made the difference in my purchasing decision. The numbers alone don't tell the whole story. When researching HD Televisions, be sure you check the type of input and ensure that the settings on the television are calibrated to that input. This is where Sony really excels.

Another commenter mentioned that standard DVD's looked better after purchasing an "upconverting" DVD player. This is very key. The one that I have found to be close to perfect is made by Oppo :
OPPO DV-970HD Up-Converting Universal DVD Player

The connection by HDMI is also key. A lovely signal transmitting through a mediocre line is wasted.

Still, as with any HD television, the connection between the two machines must be made carefully. When I changed the output of the DVD player from 480p (standard DVD) to 720p, the image quality improved RADICALLY. - Then I looked to ensure that "noise filtering" was off (default setting is "low" ) - and once turned off (no need to filter a gorgeous signal)... the picture is flawless - well as close to that as I need. The good news is that one can save settings for a particular input. So that once you set your settings for the DVD player, you aren't required to adjust them again. Though, DVD's vary and changing settings accordingly may do some good.

The control menus are easy to navigate, and after a few minutes of figuring, one will be very comfortable trying this setting or that.

Overall, the television and the delivery were both superlative.

    I couldn't be happier.

  4. This was by far the BEST Picture on the Showroom Floor and got it for $1200 clearance at BestBuy! When I got home I thought that the Picture would suffer as I only have a Standard Antenna to pick up local Stations. However, I was amazed at the picture and brought in my Nieghbor whom works for verizon on the Fiber Optics line. he stated that there is no better image engine then what the Sony Bravia Creates.
    -
Summary: BEST LCD TV for the Money! Hands Down.

  5. We love this TV. I bought a Sony rear projection 60" for my family room about 4 years ago and have never regretted it. So naturally when it came time to buy a big one for the bedroom, we upgraded in technology and stuck with Sony. When you're spending this much on a TV, pay a little more for the best. I research all my high ticket purchases so I expected the quality to be as good as it is. We don't have it hooked up to surround side or an HD box and you'd never know it. The picture is crystal clear. We've had the tv for about a year and no complaints yet. We feel like we're at the movies when we lay in bed.

It is also very light and thin. I am a 125 pound woman and I can lift it myself. Perfect if you have the wall space but don't want to take up too much room.

  1. The review in Consumer Reports influenced our decision to buy an Olevia and we are very pleased with the monitor. We aren't TV watchers, but we do watch DVD's and the picture quality from this monitor is very good. It's clear and detailed. Also, the monitor is in a very bright room and the picture is not adversely affected by the brightness. And, the good price also made the buy very appealing!

  2. This LCD is packed with great features, fantastic picture quality and connects right to your cable box so you don't need a tuner anyway! It has an easy wheel menu for your settings, you can adjust the picture to the brightness of the room and it's a snap to connect your DVD player and HD and I can even hook my laptop to it for a huge monitor. I can't say enough good things about this product. Olevia is soon to be a force to be reckoned with in the electronics world if they keep coming up with products of this quality and value!

  3. for no reason we can identify the video aspect of this display just died and flickers back and forth between red/blue/green/white/black. It was not dropped, there was no power surge, and it was very carefully handled. Just took it off the base to wall mount it and now dead. Would not buy another one.

  1. I bought this tv a few months ago after a lot of debate. Sony always seemed to be the more expensive product, then it went on sale. 13,999 was the sale. after having to buy the necessary stand for 200, the sale price kind of vanished. Keep in mind that you will need some sort of stand for this unit as it sits too low for good viewing angle without it. The picture is great. As most people say, unless you have a good cable signal, the flaws will be very evident. But I bought this for movies. DVD's look awesome!! I only wish it was widescreen as most all dvd's come in 16:9 format. I know, why did I buy a 4:6 aspect then? Well, I don't like how if you are watching normal tv and the picture is cut down. I would definitely recommend this tv to others, but I would warn people to weigh their priorities.

  2. Great TV. I have had it for a little while but I would not trade it for anything in the wordl. I am able to experience my sports the way I imagined it should be I ahave no complaints and would recommend it to all who are avid TV watchers and do not want to spend thousands of dollars.

  3. Anyone having trouble with this set? My grandmothers looks very dim now, whereas I believe it looked much better in the past. I guess she may need a new bulb

  4. after 8.5 years, the tv finally died on me. it was time to upgrade to 1080p and hdmi anyway!

  1. We got the TV on Oct 04, 07 and it stopped working the next day we tried it on. The lamp went completely dead.
We are returning this Toshiba TV right now. No hesitations.
You just can not tolerant the fact that after spending $1200 on a TV, it is broken directly out of the box!!!

Don't buy this, unless you want to find trouble.

  2. Great experience and price buying this tv through Amazon. Picture is great, came just as promised brand spanking new. Would buy again.

  3. This tv has great picture quality, though not quite as good as some of the other top tier tvs in the same segment, the price more then makes up for that being a few hundred dollars cheaper. I have all three consoles hooked up and all look great. Blu-Ray on the PS3 looks great specially if you use HDMI. Also, until recievers have more HDMI hook ups, this tv has enough to hold you over with three. Unfortunately, non HD sources don't look quite a good. My Wii which is hooked up through component just looks blurry. This is obviously a problem due to this sets large size, all tvs of this size share this problem with blurred images of non HD sources. I have Direct TV HD and it looks great, however, be wary since lots of the "HD" channels aren't true HD yet, just less compression then before.

I did have a problem with the bulb going out after a few weeks, however, since I'm still within the first year of warranty, they replaced it within a week at no charge. Unfortunately, you do have to send back the broken bulb which is a nuissance, but it's a small price to pay.

  4. I can't write a glowing enough review for this tv. Yes, I have a few minor quibbles... Silk Screen Effect being the only one of significance (not that significant, really) but all in all, this is a fantastic set. Accepts a 1080p/24 input (reframes to 60, but does an impeccable job) means you can watch the new Hi-Def movie formats as they were meant to be seen. Standard definition tv when moved to the 4:3 format is tolerable.

I have mine hooked up to the HD-a35 toshiba HD-DVD player and I cannot tell you how many peoples jaws have dropped.

This tv, in all honesty, was a steal!

  5. Got it in Aug. 2007, wish I would have looked here first. I didn't use it much, mostly for games and movies, not much television-watching. Tried to turn it on last night, and the screen wouldn't turn on. Eventually got a pattern of led's on the front panel that indicated lamp not working (a yellow led with red flashing). There was also a voice that came from the television that said "Lamp not working" heh. I called Toshiba, and the guy had me hang up and take the lamp out, then call him back. He asked me if I could see any damage (I couldn't see any, but didn't know what I was looking for). He said that it was probably not the bulb, but the housing, and that I should take it to the nearest service dealer (40 miles away, ugh). Felt like I was getting the runaround. I'll just give my money to some other company in the future, and be sure to check here before I do :) . Lesson learned. It's a shame, because I liked the television when it worked.
