5 comments about Samsung HLT5089S 50-Inch Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV.
- This television is amazing. The remote & menus take some getting used to but it has a bright, vibrant picture and the action scenes translate efficiently and clearly (watching the NCAA Tournament) with no blur. The LED light below the power button is annoying but this is most definitely the best value in DLP TV's with an LED light engine it should be nearly repair free over the lifetime of the product. I highly recommend this television.
- I did not get this TV from Amazon, but purchased through another retailer.
The TV was delivered yesterday and set-up. Out of the box the TV does not work. There is no RED. Only Blues and Greens. This is on all inputs and when you go into the setup screen to adjust colors you still can not get any reds in the picture. On top of that, even HDMI output from the DVD player looks very grainy. In the store the picture on this TV looked great, but quality control is horrible. There is no excuse for spending this much on a TV and having to get it repaired out of the box!!!!!!!
Unfortunately the place I bought it is forcing me to go through Samsung for the repair and will only replace it if Samsung can not fix. The first thing I will do if it is repaired, is sell it and go by something else. This is the first and LAST Samsung product I will ever buy. I went with DLP because, #1 I am affiliated with the chip maker and wanted to support my own products. #2 with the LED light sources I felt like I would get a TV that would last a long time.
Well I still want an LED DLP, just not Samsung.
- Samsung HLT5089S 50-inch Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV
Ordered this TV on Amazon site, Vanns fulfilled the order. The set arrived on time and in excellent condition. Despite being rear-projection it is very slim. Picture quality is excellent. I was a little concerned because I have read that DLP TV's are not great if viewed at an angle. While there is a slight decrease in the vibrancy of the color when not viewed directly, even at 45 degrees I think the picture is still very clear and bright. Excellent contract ration. With the LED engine, no noise, no rainbow. The set has so many inputs I can't use them all, 3 HDMI, two component, composite, etc.
- My brother loves this TV. Samsung makes great TVs BUT I have a problem with them on this one. Samsung shouldn't advertise this TV as having PIP (Picture-In-Picture) when it only has one tuner and therefore does NOT have PIP! Samsung's response, you CAN watch a TV channel AND a VCR or DVD player which we call PIP. Who wants that I ask? Your BAD Samsung!!
- We received the unit when promised. Everything works and is exactly what we were lookiing for. The picture is spactacular and we love the extra features. Thanks for a real deal with VANN's, the providor.

- With its low profile frame its the perfect solution for those that have invested a little too heavily in entertainment centers for their old 36" direct view TVs. The only downside is that you may have to remove the doors but it will usually fit, and you'll need the optional stand to make this work.
Like all Panasonic plasmas, this little unit offers an amazing picture and color reproduction with more settings and display options than you could ever use. The TV also has a built in Zoom feature which comes in handy on special occasions. And the "A" specific industrial model was upgraded with 2 HDMI ports but still has an available slot for adding more HDMI, DVI, or other inputs your system may require. It does have built in component video inputs but they are BNC type connectors so you will need 3 adapters for your RCA type cables before connecting.
All in all its a 5 star product from Panasonic. The remote is easy to navigate, the manual is well written and easy to translate, but as you may already know this plasma does not have a built in tuner, so you'll either need a cable or satellite tuner which is not a problem for most people making this a centerpiece in a home theater setup.
A word of caution though, HDTV is addictive.....just when you get comfortable with your new 42" Panny you may be struck with a deep regret you didn't go for the 50" model. That happened to me twice, and I am now the proud but TV poor owner of a 42", 50", and 58" Panasonic plasma. 5 Pixels

- This tv does in fact have high failure rate I know I purchased one
January 2 2008 and the tv would turn its self off after only minuets
of watching. Little trouble shooting with Philips shows that the unit had power board failure. Also when you would turn the tv off only the screen would sometime go out the power board would remain on with led lights on the board still Glowing. you can view the green led lights on the board by looking through the vent holes from the back. When the is turned off the lights should go off PER Philips. Sometime mine would sometime they would remain on after turning the unit off.
I returned the tv for replacement and the second tv did the same exact thing the TVs were MFG only one month apart. I wounder how many people have this same set that are not even aware of the power board not shouting off? If I had two sets with same problem you know there has to be many out there with same falure.
This tv looks great that is what sold me and the price and the name Philips. I got my refund and purchased a Samsung. after all this and dealing with Philips. When I see the name Philips I turn my head. Never again will I purchas a Philips brand again
- I wish I had done more research on Philips repairs before we bought our 50" plasma 16 months ago. Just Google "philips repairs" and get ready to read the horror stories. It's amazing a company can stay in business nowadays with such poor customer service and products. They look good, but don't count on them to last.
- I bought this tv and i could not be more pleased with it, it work's great, & has the best picture i have ever seen, It's connected to fiber optic and the picture looks like it's real, I have one in my coach and it gets bounced around a lot and it plays as good as the one in the house, the way I look at it if high End motorcoaches install it in there units it got to be a great product.Hey they do have lemons out there.
- I was a bit skeptical when I read some bad reviews on this TV but the price was too good to ignore. I have owned it now for a week and I am more than happy.
The picture quality is awesome, even the non HD chabbes are great. The remote is simple to use and light.
I hope my TV lasts longer and based on the picture quality and price, I will give this 5 star!
- This TV had a beautiful picture, for the first 5 months then died. Mfg. Warranty specifically states Philips has the right to send out a refurbished TV as the replacement, it took 2 months to arrive from Ohio. The replacement lasted 33 days and began to turn itself off. Contact w/Philips Cust. Service, again they stated per policy, they want to send another refurbished model or a LCD TV instead of the plasma unit. Research indicates this mfg. is no longer making plasma TV's for US distribution, parts and repair are almost impossible even on a 5 month old TV, opps, 33 day old TV.
Recent discussion w/ six independent repair services has informed me this model has been, and I quote, "a dog from day one"...
It's football season and my brand new big screen is no longer working!! This TV has been broken more time than it has been operable since I purchased it in Dec. 2007... SAVE YOUR MONEY, BUY ANYTHING ELSE, DONATE IT TO CHARITY, BUT DON'T GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED $ TO PHILIPS!!!

2 comments about LG 50PG20 - 50" plasma TV - widescreen - 720p - HDTV - gloss piano black.
- We could not be any happier with our purchase of this Plasma.
This TV was my family's first venture into the world of HD. We considered many factors, such as screen size, price, on-going maintenance expenses, and getting something that we would be happy with for a good number of years. We were first drawn to Projections, because of the huge screens available for reasonable prices, but were turned off by the good possibility of having to purchase a new expensive bulb every year of so. LCD's were nice, but their price in larger screens was significantly higher than Plasmas, and they have the problem with the viewing angle. In the end, we decided to go with a Plasma no smaller that 50 inches, because we didn't want to feel as if we needed a "bigger" TV a few years down the road.
Before purchasing the LG 720p, we tried the same resolution in the Insignia 50 Inch Plasma. That was in our house for one day when we decided to return it to get something of better quality, which turned out to be this LG. The price of the LG was only a little more than the Insignia, but the quality was so much better.
The picture is phenomenal. I cannot tell any difference between the picture on this compared to Plasmas that cost 4-5 times as much. Even non-HD channels look great on this.
The appearance is very nice as well. The color of the case is "piano black" which looks really slick.
We bought the Init Wall Mount for this TV, and it works great. It was simple and fast to install.
The only possible negative with the LG was the sound. This was the one area where we actually liked the Insignia better. On some stations, we have to crank the sound up to 60 or beyond. With our Wii, it only needs to be in the teens. So the issue is probably more with my Cable Provider and/or Cable Box. But as I indicated, we did notice better sound with the Insignia.
There was an issue when we first got the TV out of the box and hooked it up. There was a white vertical line on the far right-hand side of the TV that ran the entire height. You could see some blurry images through the white, so I knew it wasn't just a aspect ratio setting. This line started going away the second day of viewing, and by the third day it was gone completely and have had no problems with it since (we have now owned this for about a month). Maybe it just needed to get "broken in"???
We also purchased a 4-Year Extended Warranty from the store we got this from, mostly for peace of mind on this investment. Their Extended Warranty does cover burn-in, so that is a good thing to know just in case one of the kids leaves it on. But hopefully we will never have to use it.
Overall, we are thrilled with this TV, and we wholeheartedly recommend it.
- I had to send this one back due to a cracked screen in 3 places. It was shipped from Vann's in Montana and I live in North Carolina. I had previously ordered a 46 inch Samsung that was shipped from Amazon and the service and TV are great. After waiting over 2 weeks for the TV to return to Vann's and for them to credit my Amazon account, Amazon promptly returned my money. I since have ordered a 50 inch Samsung PN50A450 instead of the LG since I knew the TV would ship directly from Amazon. The TV arrived in 3 days in great condition and the white glove service is great. Beware of ordering from Amazon for big TV's that do not ship directly from Amazon. I have learned my lesson.

5 comments about Panasonic TC-32LX60 32-Inch LCD TV.
- This TV reinforced my confidence in Panasonic engineering excellence. I was able to set it up very quickly after it arrived via UPS on my doorstep. It is light enough to easily/quickly unpack it. It was very intuitive to start up when I initially hooked it up to my Digital Cable box. The next day the cable company came out and for a mere $13.99 hooked it to an HDTV cable box. I am very pleased with the various input options available such as TV, Component, Video1, Video2; and Full, Just(ify), 4:3 and Zoom aspect ratios. Something for everyone. The most striking feature are the brilliant colors. the Super Bowl was super on this HDTV. The only minus I find is that Closed Captioning cannot be set to automatically happen when sound is Muted but this seems to be true for all the other LCD HDTV models that I checked out. Overall I am extremely pleased with my choice.
- An excellent TV. Great sound and picture. Easy to use remote. No compalaints.
- Would anyone be willing to share the settings they have found to yield the best results? I bought this product, but I am still trying to figure out what settings yield the best picture.
- I recently purchased this new Panasonic LCD TV after doing some research. I've been very happy with the performance of the TV but the only thing Panasonic left out was an addition to make it easier to attach this as a secondary monitor for a computer. I am an American Service member serving a remote tour overseas and have a small monitor attached to my computer. I thought and this was an oversight on my part that it would be easy to adapt this TV as a larger or second monitor for my computer. To make it nicer to see my family via my video cam attached to my computer. Alas, I have not found a way to view my computer on this TV. Other than that, it was a solid purchase and panasonic has made me impressed.
- I was in the hunt for a lcd tv to my liking....with the uprising of hd television on movies....I wanted to test the market on it...and I didn't want to go the 'Sony' route so to speak....though other brands are good ie: 'Sharp', 'Samsung' to name a few....I went to Radio Shack and they had this tv with a LG model...at first the LG look great. A friend of mine who works there told me LG looks great but in true hd detail Panasonic is better. He was right...I bought one and never look back. I've had this tv for almost 8 months and upgraded to hd cable and wow what a difference! I bought a dvd upconverter and my dvds with the hdmi look great! I will eventually buy another one Panasonic upgraded with the tc-32lx70 with better results......

5 comments about Sony KDS-R60XBR2 60-Inch SXRD 1080p XBR Rear Projection HDTV.
- I got this set as a warranty exchange in a local dealer about 8 months ago. At that time the exchange was done at full price, around US$3.7K. This TV is one of the best images I have ever seen. I connected my Home Computer to one of the HDMI ports (yes, I avoided the VGA port) and I cannot say how good it is to have a PERFECT 1080p image out of the computer (good graph card required). The screen is PERFECT. It is also perfect with 1080i signals from the cable provider. SD picture is decent, as no one can expect perfect 60" picture from an analog source. All in all, with the current prices, this TV is the best buy in the market for its size.
- I have been waiting to get a HD TV for a long time. I'm glad I waited for this Sony XBR.
- I researched this Sony for almost 1/2 year. Price perfect with Amazon, and delivery etc was without any problems. The TV picture is very bright, detail perfect in HD and quite good is SD. Largest screen size for the money and this model includes extra lamp which is a nice add-on. Highly recommend for sports, movies etc.
- Excellent video and very good audio performance. This is the second SXRD we have had and both are excellent. No complaints and web price can be very good (about 40% off).
The audio from the built in speakers is very good, but could be supplimented by a home theater.
The twin view is good, but it should allow for two HD inputs (one must be standard). Hopefully this will be fixed on later versions.
- I bought my 60 XBR2 last July and it never ceases to deliver beautiful pictures, especially with HD content. We have a PS3, Xbox elite, and a toshiba a35 connected to it, and all look wonderful. I was upset when I heard Sony would not be making any rear projection sets in the future. But, I am very glad I bought this when I had the chance to. We have direct tv with the HD dvr, and the 720p and 1080i looks great on it as well.

5 comments about Olevia 323V 23" LCD Monitor.
- I received the TV in Fine working condition and fast too! The only problem I have is that there is no co-axial port on the TV, so unless you have digital cable, a VCR or DVD player, or just want to use it as a nice computer monitor this is the TV for you. Great value. But you must have seen my face when I opened the box and I couldn't connect my direct cable to the TV. I'm sending it back today.
- This unit does not have a coaxial (RF) connection, so if you don't use a cable box (basic and basic+ service users will not have a box) you wont be using this TV.
- Don't buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV's cost. They wouldn't offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.
- After less than a year my TV lost sound and picture. It should have still been under warranty, but Syntax (the manufacturer) was of absolutely no help. Don't let the price of this TV entice you like it did me. Pay a little more and get a TV that will last longer.
- I got my new Olevia flat panel last month and over all it is a good bang for the buck. The HD picture is excellent even on Comcast HD which is compressed. The sound is poor, however just like the others who wrote a review this is easy to fix just add external amplified speakers problem solved. One thing these sets are shipped in showroom mode. For those of you who just want to set up this set without reading the instructions here is a bit of advice. READ THE SETUP INSTRUCTIONS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE FULL MENU. I would rate this set a solid 6 to 7 on a scale of 10. It is a good set for the bedroom or the dormroom.

- Stop spreading the word! I'm worried they'll stop making this killer display at this price.
I have 2 and know lots of other owners. We use them in professional and home settings. There isn't a better deal for picture quality, flexibility and price. Know what you're buying though: you'll need to supply your own tuner & sources, speakers and stand.
This is the ideal display for anyone who wants to work plasma into a serious home theater installation. Everything you need for a well-programmed custom install - direct-select inputs, multiple resolutions and aspect ratio options, full color and greyscale control, modular input boards - it's all there, I could go on. It's true that there are better choices for pure picture quality, but that's a very small and expensive list.
The 50-inch is probably ideal for most large family rooms but the 42 is a great all-around display.
- I just got this TV 3 days ago. It provides a beautiful crisp image. Navigating the menus is sometimes a bit of a problem, as they're not set up as intuitively as a lot of TVs I've owned.
My only real complaint would be the initial set up of the TV. I pulled it out of it's box, and only then did I realize (my fault probably) that it doesn't come with a stand. Because of that, and because no store near me carried the stand designed to work with that TV I had to get a wall mount. So the TVs price is TV + Stand. And depending on what you want to use the TV for you'll have to get adapters. I went to plug in my R/G/B cables from my X-Box 360 and they wouldn't fit. The R/G/B cables on the TV were for BCN or something like that. So I had to go and buy the adapters for that. Five of them to get full usage of the TVs ports. So price is now TV + Stand + 5 RCA-BCN converters. And theres no place on the TV (that I could find) to plug in regular cable television. I have no idea what kind of converter I'm going to get for that, but I'm sure theres one out there.
If none of that bothers you though, then get the TV. It really is the best image/size/quality that you'll get for this price.
- I have this TV for almost a year and a half and have no complaints. I bought the optional HDMI and DVI add-in boards and they work perfectly with my home theater PC and cable box.
One thing to remember is that this model has fewer inputs than the consumer models, it does not have an internal tuner or speakers either. So keep that in mind if it matters to you. For me I don't need these extras, plus this model is easier to tweak than the consumer models.
At this point though you may want to upgrade to the TH-42PHD9UK. It's cheaper and one generation newer.
- We have had this TV for 5 months now and LOVE it!! It has stunning color, amazing clarity and is very simple to use and install. We studied the reviews and chose this one for both it's size and it's cost. We could not be happier with our purchase.
- I bought this tv like year ago and I can tell you that is the best image I have seen from plasma and lcd. Very sharp and incredible color. 100% recommended.
