  1. Having researched/compared hdtvs for several months, I could not be more happier with the decision made to purchase this model. Especially catching it on Amazon for under $1000! Delivery was quick and professional. Upscaling dvd player: picture is flawless, Directv HD: picture is amazingly clear, Directv SD: picture is actually very good (but HD will not take long to spoil you). I have found the factory picture settings to be just fine. If you don't like the factory settings, there are (what seems to be) endless possiblities of picture adjustments at your disposal. Sound is great (has an EQ). TV looks great on the wall. If you're reading this while researching...stop now and buy this model. You will not be disappointed.

  2. First of all, I would just like to commend the Eagle service. I am on the 3rd floor in my apartment building, and getting a TV of this size up to my Apt would be difficult enough, and this service made those issues irrelevant.

    As for the TV:
I was so dead set on the LCD 40-42", and 1080P, but after I did some research, I realized that 1080P isn't going to be in wide use for quite some time. So I noticed this TV had a contrast ratio of 15,000 to 1. Most LCD TV's had 10,000 to 1 or so, so I viewed this as a huge plus

I did more research of this TV on AVS forum, to make sure that there were no issues, manufacturing defects etc, and to my knowledge, I was unable to find such issues.

I set up the TV on the wall using a Peerless mount, and when I finally turned the TV on and connected it to an HD source.. all I can say was WOW!! I am totally hooked. We ended up putting this in our bedroom, meanwhile we have a 30" Samsung Slimfit TV in the Living Room, so you must imagine there is now a lot of TV watching in Bed.

    In summary:
For those who are hesistant to go with a Plasma - trust me on this - Do not hesitate, and go and get this TV you will not be disappointed!!

  3. I've had this TV for about a month now and am very happy with it. It has a beautiful picture. We have used the standard cable input as well as a progressive DVD player (not an up-converting model) with component input. Both have looked really nice. When browsing for TVs at Best Buy I noticed that many looked really awful with just a standard TV (non-HD) input. This TV does not have that problem.

What really drove me to this TV was the price. Plasma has a much nicer picture than LCD, and this price was awesome compared to others in its size range (including LCDs). We sit about 8-10 ft from the TV, and see no need for 1080i resolution for a 42" TV. The 720p is plenty good enough. 480p (DVD, standard digital TV) looks good as well.

The only potential downsides to this TV -- it does have a significant amount of glare. I control that with window blinds and room lighting. I don't watch a lot of daytime TV, so it doesn't bother me much. Also, the controls feel rather slow (especially changing channels). I only compare the speed to our old CRT TV, though, so I don't know how that compares with other plasma or LCD TV's.

  4. I have owned this tv for over half a year and I love the set. The picture is second to none and the quality of the product is great. The only thing that I have an issue with is the remote that comes with the tv. It does not allow me to control my TIVO dvr and there are certain functions that I am unable to perform when controlling my digital cable box. However, I would buy this tv over any other that I have experienced, it continually impresses me.

  5. This TV is awesome! I've never had any problems with it and the picture it delivers is flawless! I have played DVD's on it, watched HDTV with an antenna, and play computer games with it and it work great for each scenario. I have recommended this TV to everyone I know. I did a lot of research before I purchased this TV because I did not know if I wanted to get this one or a Sony. But I have no regrets now that I have bought this one!

  1. I bought a Westinghouse 32W3 HD TV in 2006. One week after the warranty ran out (53 weeks later), the colormap for the display began to malfunction and shimmering colors were displayed on the screen. After determining that the problem was the TV and not the cable, and could not be fixed, I was instructed to send the TV back to Westinghouse for a new one. Two months later and I am still waiting. Once (if) it arrives, I will have a 3-month warranty, hopefully enough time to sell the unit and buy another TV from a company that believes in customer service. Never again!

  2. Compare this tv to others with the 720p spec and the similarities are endless, but look at it in person, and adjust the contract and color controls and you will find this is a revelation. Great value for the money. Perhaps not as good as the top line Sony Brava, but for for the price great picture and much better than some of the cheaper sets now being imported with names no one has ever heard of.

So far, features, while modest, are fine for my system. Sound quality is pretty good, but when hooked up to a home theater system, great results. The sets upconverting circuitry is quite good and teamed with a progressive player quite good contrast and sharpmness. Do not have player with HDMI so I cannot test this connection.

Good set, great price. Would buy it again in 32".

  3. BUYER BEWARE - mine lasted a little over 18 mths.I started having problems after about 6 mths but Westinghouse's online service kept assuring me that the issue was my cabling, power connection & sattelite hook-up. I was getting a rolling screen after the set had been on a few minutes - but it usually stopped after a few seconds , so I just dealt with it. But then the episodes starting happening more often and lasting longer. So after spending hours and not a few $$$'s on new cabling & re-wiring the plug hook-ups in my living room & having DISH come out & give my entire set-up a check up - I finally got an independent 3rd party (TV repairman) to come look at it. By then I was getting a picture about 15 minutes each hour - the rest of the time it was just fuzzy colors in a revovling pattern. Then I went thru the company I bought the TV from only to find out that this model has basically been discontinued (gee-I wonder why!!!!)I just found out that my extended warranty isn't much better than the tv was & I'm looking at about a 30 day wait for Westinghhouse to give the vendor an RA so they can finish processing my return. NEVER AGAIN - DO NOT BUT THIS TV OR ANYTHING ELSE FROM WESTINGHOUSE. If a 0 star rating was available- that is what I would give this piece of junk and then a -10 for Westinghouse's CS department !!!!

  4. I bought this t.v. in June '06 and had no problems for almost two years. Today, I turned on the t.v. and it powered on, but the screen just stayed blue (back light, I think). No sound, no picture. I unplugged it and powered up...same thing again. The t.v. will not shut off via buttons (only unplugging it works) and I can not pull up the menu or switch the source. Called Westinghouse and they are going to replace it, even though its warranty has been up for 10 mos. After reading the other reviews about replacements, I'm a bit worried! Up until today there have been no major problems, although the t.v. likes to turn on by itself and the menu button works sporadically. Other than that, it's been great. Hopefully, Westinghouse doesn't send me a lemon.

  5. We purchased this TV from Best Buy less than two years ago. We "needed" something affordable to "maximize the abilities" of the XBOX 360. I foolishly did not review this product beforehand. After reading through the reviews today, I would say use caution when approaching this TV.

This morning the TV will not turn on. The screen remains black. If somehow it does manage to start, it is only for a second and then stays very dimly lit, as if you are looking at your laptop screen when it is running on its battery as compared to when it is plugged into the wall.

I am calling around for repair quotes and finding them to be rather expensive to start. Westinghouse will not help me at all. The TV was fabulous while it lasted, but I can't say it was worth $350 a year.

  1. The set is ok overall...good price, free shipping, and good reviews convinced me to buy this set.

Now, after about a month, It continues to have a greenish tint when using the Colorstream HD input.

I'm going to call TOshiba support and see what can be done. Hopefully, I won't have to send it back.

  2. I was looking for the largest CRT HDTV that I could fit in my existing cabinet and stumbled across this set by Toshiba. The picture quality is very good, stunning in HDTV, but the sound leaves a little to be desired. My 14 year old Zenith had much better sound quality. The TV is loaded with features and provides plenty of inputs to plug in just about any a/v device known to man. The only things I would change would be the time it takes to tune each station which can make channel surfing a little tedious and the sound quality.

  3. Stunning picture, looks good on My Wii, and great colors. Be sure to put BBE on for sound, because it sounds less tinny then. My only gripes are overscan, which from the looks of it is really bad, but it's picture is good enough to warent purchase. Really good, and great picture.

  4. I have a built-in television cabinet in my living room, so I could only purchase an HDTV that was 26" or less wide. I was looking for a 1080i picture, as well. After lots of research, I decided on the Toshiba 26HF66 and I am thrilled at the bargain I got. The picture is unbelievable, and the sound is so strong, I typically only turn it up to 1/4 or its total volume. It is able to handle all HD formats, and the price is what really made it an amazing purchase for me. Now I'm looking for a big screen to go in my basement, and Toshiba is at the top of my list, thanks to this awesome mid-sized TV.

  5. I am not one for words. It is a good tv, everthing it was advertised to be.

  1. I am a frequent RCA user and this LCD Scenium L32WD250 looked stylish out of the box with all the features: various inputs, comfortable user interface, beautiful universal remote, and adaptive picture quality I never saw in Samsung or other brands. I chose it because the price was too good to miss and it had a Wake-up Alarm feature that was my primary condition to weed out a sea of lesser LCD television options. My bonuses included the adjustable PIP function that I could not find in 98% of quality televisions regardless of the size or brand, the refresh rate of the picture, and auto input channel buttons on the remote (you can actually set which input or regular channel is turned on by the button you designate). Note: the Amazon product picture is incorrect, look on RCA website for real one (much prettier).

  1. The wireless system creates a delay that makes this TV unsuitable for use with video games. I have both a Nintendo Wii and a computer hooked up to the TV. With both, there is a noticeable and significant onscreen delay. If you simply want to watch television, this product is fine. However, if you want to use it for games, select another TV, you will be disappointed with this one.

  2. The Wireless causes the picture to delay for at least 180ms, your surround reciever needs to be able to delay or it will look like a bad synch'ed movie. Not any good for Wii or PS3, the wireless does break up once i a while, but there is no cable mess at all. I will return this TV and get another with long HDMI cables.

  3. Shame on them for not plastering across the box of this unit in big red letters "CANNOT BE USED FOR ANYTHING BUT TV AND DVD!!!!!" The delay between the wireless box and the screen makes playing video games impossible and using the set with a computer in a business environment for things like powerpoint presentations a major annoyance. Why even release the thing until you have sufficient technology to fix this problem? We aren't THAT desperate for a wireless plasma! These days, even an elderly couple who would never in a million years consider playing a video game on their TV needs to take this into consideration because their grandkids will likely be coming over for the weekenend with their Nintendo Wii. What if they don't find out until a year or so after they purchase it? What a bummer! Like I said, shame on Samsung. This set will really be a letdown to a lot of people at some point during their ownership.

  4. Okay, I will make this short and sweet - This Plasma TV is absolutely the best big-screen experience I have ever witnessed - I have used several large format/hd monitors, Mitsubishi, Proscan, Sony, etc., and this one outperforms them all -

To those who complained about the problems with attaching their computer or video game machines - it's very simple DON'T!!! This TV and it's Wireless Components are designed for one thing - ABSOLUTE VIDEO - from high definition programming or Blu Ray DVD ------It is not an add-on for a Playstation or Xbox!!!

It is really a shame that SamSung is being criticized for designing and producing this TV - I can only state that if you want an unbelievable High Definition and Blu Ray picture, you owe it to yourself to check this instrument out.........THANK YOU SAMSUNG!!!

  1. I have been very pleased with my purchase. The picture on this model is incredible. I spent a lot of time researching this purchase. I actually went to Circuit City to compare the picture on this set versus the picture on a comparable Panasonic model and I believe the Samsung TV is superior to the Panasonic. Also, my brother in law has a 50 inch Panasonic 1080P plasma and the picture on my plasma 720 Samsung is significantly better. The delivery service was excellent. I received the set in about a week after the order was placed. All in all, I don't believe you can beat the Amazon price along with the free delivery. The biggest problem I have is that now I don't want to watch TV on any other set in the house.

  2. Bought this TV for myself last November and liked it so much bought another for Mom last month. HD picture is as good as any TV costing much more. For the money you cannot find a better TV. Don't be fooled by the need for 1080p when this will give you a picture that is comparable. It has all the bells and whistles that most people want and need. Study the Specs carefully when you buy coz many times people are paying more for features you may not need or use. Very happy with my purchase.

  3. the poker room really enjoys it !!
    have a 50" samsung upstairs.
    love it !!
    no complaints on either tv.
if you open your eyes, explore, and read, it is very user friendly.
don't use the sound cuz we have surround sound on both.

  4. After years and years of suffering with a smaller screen, I finally splurged and went out and bought one of these bad boys. I was not disappointed at all!!

I did a ton of research on the web and then went and looked at the ones I liked at the local "Best Buy". I even brought in my favorite DVD to see how the different models looked in a familiar show. For the price, this was the one I went home and bought online at Amazon.

Why in the world would anyone want to lug a piece of equipment like this anywhere when you can have it delivered for free from Amazon!! My delivery was perfect, but I understand there needs to be a little flexibility when you have to ship this stuff by a heavy weight carrier. I love the fact they bring it in and let me inspect the TV for damage.

The sound is pretty decent. I don't even feel the need to fire up the sound system for daily TV viewing any more:).

The picture is outstanding. I never noticed how much stuff gets purposely blurred out in TV shows before now. Thing like license plates, a protruding nipple, that bloody scene on ABC. It is amazing some of the stuff they blurred out in shows that I never even noticed before getting this TV.

The number of connectors is satisfactory. A network connection would be that extra nice touch. With all the HDMI stuff coming out now days, a 3rd one of those would be handy eventually as well. The USB connection for possible updates was a huge relief to see. I think I might even be able to play some picture from it, but I haven't given that a try yet.

Overall, a very solid buy after having it almost 6 month!

  5. After reviewing many TVs, I decided to go with this one. I've had it for 4 months now and love it.

One bit of advice for those about to break into the HD world. When we first plugged in the TV, I thought I did something wrong because the picture didn't take up the entire screen area. What I found out later is that non-HD channels only display in a portion of the screen. I wish there were more HD channels to display on this great TV.

3 comments about LG 50PG20 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV.
  1. We could not be any happier with our purchase of this Plasma.

This TV was my family's first venture into the world of HD. We considered many factors, such as screen size, price, on-going maintenance expenses, and getting something that we would be happy with for a good number of years. We were first drawn to Projections, because of the huge screens available for reasonable prices, but were turned off by the good possibility of having to purchase a new expensive bulb every year of so. LCD's were nice, but their price in larger screens was significantly higher than Plasmas, and they have the problem with the viewing angle. In the end, we decided to go with a Plasma no smaller that 50 inches, because we didn't want to feel as if we needed a "bigger" TV a few years down the road.

Before purchasing the LG 720p, we tried the same resolution in the Insignia 50 Inch Plasma. That was in our house for one day when we decided to return it to get something of better quality, which turned out to be this LG. The price of the LG was only a little more than the Insignia, but the quality was so much better.

The picture is phenomenal. I cannot tell any difference between the picture on this compared to Plasmas that cost 4-5 times as much. Even non-HD channels look great on this.

The appearance is very nice as well. The color of the case is "piano black" which looks really slick.

We bought the Init Wall Mount for this TV, and it works great. It was simple and fast to install.

The only possible negative with the LG was the sound. This was the one area where we actually liked the Insignia better. On some stations, we have to crank the sound up to 60 or beyond. With our Wii, it only needs to be in the teens. So the issue is probably more with my Cable Provider and/or Cable Box. But as I indicated, we did notice better sound with the Insignia.

There was an issue when we first got the TV out of the box and hooked it up. There was a white vertical line on the far right-hand side of the TV that ran the entire height. You could see some blurry images through the white, so I knew it wasn't just a aspect ratio setting. This line started going away the second day of viewing, and by the third day it was gone completely and have had no problems with it since (we have now owned this for about a month). Maybe it just needed to get "broken in"???

We also purchased a 4-Year Extended Warranty from the store we got this from, mostly for peace of mind on this investment. Their Extended Warranty does cover burn-in, so that is a good thing to know just in case one of the kids leaves it on. But hopefully we will never have to use it.

Overall, we are thrilled with this TV, and we wholeheartedly recommend it.

  2. I had to send this one back due to a cracked screen in 3 places. It was shipped from Vann's in Montana and I live in North Carolina. I had previously ordered a 46 inch Samsung that was shipped from Amazon and the service and TV are great. After waiting over 2 weeks for the TV to return to Vann's and for them to credit my Amazon account, Amazon promptly returned my money. I since have ordered a 50 inch Samsung PN50A450 instead of the LG since I knew the TV would ship directly from Amazon. The TV arrived in 3 days in great condition and the white glove service is great. Beware of ordering from Amazon for big TV's that do not ship directly from Amazon. I have learned my lesson.

  3. this tv is the bomb , regular cable chanels look great on it and of course
hd . but the hidden gem is , it displays more than 720 p. thats right 1080p not i , but p .i tested it with the ps3 first , i didnt believe it first , than i tried the xbox360 and i got the same thing . i made sure its the same model . read it on the back of the tv and the box . it says 720p .But it does full 1080p . i originaly got this tv in the store , as advertised it is 720p.but look to my suprise .i wanted to compare price to amazon .i overpayed 300 dollars ,which is ok . i am happy . so folks get it from here , u wont be sorry .u get more than it says . just wanted to share this

  1. Facial color was poor no matter what I adjusted.
Aspect ratio was incorrect in some modes. For example with a high definition picture the aspect ratio was 16:7.5 instead of the correct 16:9. When "Wide" was selected the aspect ratio changed to 16:10 still not correct.
The TV is advertized as being HDTV although there is no mention of HDTV in the manual or on the box. The box contains the words High Resolution. The quality with HD signals is not very good.
The instructions in the manual to do the necessary scan for stations is hidden on page 22. Should be up front considering this is one of the first things to do.
Unit is being returned for refund.

  2. Its all good...I have used it a lot since my day of purchase.
Best part is that I use it as my PC monitor and switch btw that with TV(there are not many with this combination and for this price)

    What is missing-
    1. Aspect Ratio...it is a tad less..but for a 19inch TV..I wouldn't expect much

  1. This was a great purchase. The picture on the TV is wonderful. You can watch it from many angles and it's still clear. The installation was extremely easy. It is a perfect TV for a small room.

  2. Purchased this today to replace a tiny 13" in my bedroom. The picture is great. Right out of the box, plug and play. The remote is basic, but this is a basic TV and I'll be controlling the TV via my Tivo, so I don't care about the remote.

The one complaint (hence only 4 stars) is the sound. I'm here to confirm that the speakers sound almost identical to my alarm clock radio. Although the sound is less than desirable, it offers an audio output via Digital Audio Coax cable (so you can connect to external stereo, etc). If you're looking for a great sounding TV and planning to utilize the TV speakers, this is not the TV for you. Since this is in my bedroom and used as a second TV, it'll work just fine.

Other than the low quality sound, it is as advertised. Great buy for those of us who have not made the jump to HiDef yet.

  3. Is this a good LCD TV? Quite possibly, if "good LCD TV" isn't an oxymoron. There's the motion blur, which was even worse than I expected, and pixelization that's visible at all times but worse when there's motion, a little insult to add to your injury. Color and clarity on still images is very good, as I'd expect of a high quality LCD display. But I spent far less on my LCD computer monitor, and it has significantly better color and clarity (admittedly at much higher resolution) than this set.

Sound can only be described as miserable. Maybe we shouldn't expect much of a small, thin, flat panel, but providing bass and treble controls on this unit seems as silly as outfitting a moped with a nitrous injector.

A 20" set seems most likely intended for use in places like the bedroom, where viewers are likely to be fairly close to the screen, and where it's unlikely the set can be hooked up to a sound system. Since it doesn't provide good close-up viewing, and since the sound quality is so poor, I'm not sure this set has any really good applications. I ended up keeping the 20" analog Philips I already had setup in my bedroom and used the new Sharp to replace a 13" monophonic Sanyo in my daughter's room. Although the sound quality's worse, at least she has both channels now.

If you're looking for a way to prepare your less demanding viewing areas for DTV, this isn't the way to do it. Go to your local discount retailer and pick up an analog 20" set (while you still can) and plug it into whatever set-top box you happen to have at your disposal. That'll provide very watchable TV for years to come, and save you about $200 over the price of this set.

  4. This replaced a 13" CRT in the kitchen and fit nicely below the cabinets with a very small foot print. The picture quality is excellent with a wide viewing angle. After purchasing a 20" wide angle LCD for a bedroom we went back to the 4:3 format to use the entire screen. Others commented about poor sound but the sound is good for a kitchen or small room with base and treble adjustments. If I hadn't purchased the wide angle for the bedroom I would have purchased another LC20S7U. This one has a better quality picture for a lower price plus the 4:3 format which is most of our transmitted programs.

  5. Researched all the comparables, checked prices from all the Biggies, Best Buy, Cir. City, etc. Amazon had the best price by far. The Sharp Aquos is simply the best picture quality for the price. No question here. I have the 15" and bought another (20") because I'm sold on Sharp's quality picture and sound.
